Mr. Bonner was first elected to the Alberta Legislature in 1997. He is Critic Responsible for Seniors and for WCB in the Liberal Caucus of Alberta.

Mr. Bonner holds a B.P.E. and a B.Ed. from the University of Alberta, and has been a teacher for 27 years. He was a convention representative to the North Central Teachers Convention and a staff representative on the Alberta Teachers' Association. Past and present community involvement includes: president of the Edmonton Minor Hockey Association, co-chair of Northmount Community League's 25th anniversary, and chair of the 1995 World Junior Hockey Championships.

He was born on September 26, 1944 and is married to Jeanne. They have three children.
