Sapers, Howard J.
Mr. Sapers is House Leader and critic responsible for advanced education, science and research in the Liberal caucus of the Alberta Legislature. He holds a B.A. (Criminology) and an M.A. (Criminology) from Simon Fraser University.
First elected to the Alberta Legislature in 1993, Howard Sapers was executive director of the John Howard Society of Alberta, an instructor on Correctional Law at Grant MacEwan Community College, and a Crime Prevention Consultant with the New Westminster City Police, B.C. He was a Special Constable for the R.C.M.P. "E" Division.
Past and present community involvement: President of the Canadian Criminal Justice Association. (Publications include: A Guide to the Young Offenders Act in Alberta and Laws, Crimes, and the Moral Wrong), past president of the Alberta Criminal Justice Association, vice chair of Edmonton Mayor's Task Force on Safer Cities, chair of the Public Legal Education Network, chair of the West Edmonton Transportation Advisory Committee, and president of the Association of Human Services in Alberta.
Mr. Sapers was born on November 24, 1957. He is married to Shannon, and they have three children.
