HENDERSON, K. Jean
Pictou / Seafoam
HENDERSON, Katherine Jean, August 5, 1932 – March 23, 2016, age 83, of
Seafoam, passed away peacefully, surrounded by her family in the Aberdeen
Hospital, New Glasgow. Born in Millbrook, she was a daughter of the late
James and Jessie Fraser. Mom's greatest joy was her family. She adored her
children, grandchildren, great-grandchildren and great-great-grandchildren.
She was known by all as ‘Grammie Jean’. She loved to dance and have a
good laugh and enjoyed the numerous gatherings with family, friends, and
music. Jean is survived by her partner, Bill Johnson; daughters, Cheryl (Jim)
MacDonald, Pictou; Karen (Brian) Langille, Plainfield; Lynda (Allan)
Manning, Seafoam; Nancy (Larry) Langille, River John; Cindy Henderson
(Ron Halverson), Pictou; grandchildren, Fred MacDonald (Crystal), Michelle
MacDonald (Barry), Cephise Pye (Gordie), Candi Langille (Shawn), Paul
Langille, Tammy Manning (John Young), Terri Lynn McNutt (Dan), Timmy
Langille, Todd MacDonald, Tabatha Sept (Garth) and Amanda Hoare; greatgrandchildren,
Patrick, Olivia and Jesse Langille; Richard & Rebecca Langille;
Gailyn & Sebastian MacDonald; Nicholas & Emily MacDonald; Gordie,
Jaidyn, Raianna & Gavin Pye; Grace, Allan & Lucy Young; Owen & Isabell
McNutt; Abigail Piper, Rachel and Jared Langille; Haileigh & Synthia
Henderson and Kade Sept; great-great-grandchildren, Cassandra MacDonald
& Caleb Pye; sister, Myrtle Wooldridge; brother, Donald Fraser (Yvonne);
sisters-in-law, Marion (Lloyd) Palmer, Gladys Battist & Marie Henderson;
numerous nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by her husband, Fred;
grandson, Burton Langille; sisters, Vera MacCullogh, Ella Tupper, Evelyn
Robinson; brothers, Allister, James, Chester, Lloyd, and Raymond Fraser.
Visitation will be 7-9 PM Friday in McLaren Funeral Home, Pictou. Funeral
service will be held 3:00 PM Saturday from St. David's Presbyterian Church,
Toney River, with Rev. Gregory Dickson officiating. Burial will be in
Hamilton Cemetery. Family flowers only. Donations in her memory may be
made to St. David's Presbyterian Church, Toney River or a charity of your
choice.

WILSON, Douglas G.
Pictou
It is with heavy hearts we announce the unexpected passing of Douglas Graham
Wilson on March 11, 2016 at home. Born April 4, 1929 in River John, he was the
son of the late Russell and Ann (Hamilton) Wilson. He worked as an Operator for
CN Rail for 35 years. He will be sadly missed by his wife of 66 years, Elizabeth;
daughter, Judy Hislop, Pictou; grandchildren, Jan, Caribou and Kelly (John),
Ottawa; sister, Edna, Ontario. Doug was predeceased by sisters, Mildred and
Bernice. Cremation has taken place under the direction of McLaren Funeral
Home, Pictou. There will be no visitation or funeral service. Interment of ashes in
Haliburton Cemetery will be accompanied by a private family graveside service at
a later date. Donations in his memory may be made to the S.P.C.A.

POIRIER, Shirley M.
Pictou
POIRIER, Shirley May -81, of Pictou, passed away peacefully on Saturday,
March 12, 2016 in the Palliative Care Unit of Aberdeen Hospital, New Glasgow.
Shirley was born in Philip’s Harbour, Guysborough County, on October 1, 1934.
She was a daughter of the late George and Annie (Williams) Munroe. She was
predeceased by her loving husband, Edmund Poirier. She will be sadly missed by
her son, George and daughters, Linda and Barb. She will also be missed by her
pride and joy, granddaughter, Alicia and grandsons, Mike, Jason and Eddie. She is
also survived by brothers, Campbell (Doris) and Carl; and sister, Ethel. She was
predeceased by her brothers, Sanford, Emmett, Ross, Russell and Clayton and
sisters, Edith, Nellie and Hattie. Cremation has taken place. Visitation will be
held 1-3 PM Friday with service to follow at 3:00 PM, both in the McLaren
Funeral Home Chapel, Pictou. Burial will be in Stella Maris Cemetery. Donations
in her memory may be made to the Aberdeen Palliative Care Society.

BECK, Alden G.
Lyons Brook
BECK, Alden Gerald -90, of Lyons Brook, Pictou County, passed away peacefully
in Aberdeen Hospital, New Glasgow on Sunday, March 13, 2016. Born in Lyons
Brook on May 8, 1925, he was a son of the late William & Edith (Battist) Beck.
Alden was a former employee of Hawker Siddeley/Trenton Works. He was a
veteran of the Second World War, serving at Camp Borden, Ontario. He was a 69
year member of the Royal Canadian Legion, Branch 16, Pictou; a 55 year member
of New Caledonia, No. 11 Masonic Lodge, Pictou; a member of the former Victory
Chapter, Order of the Eastern Star and member of the Westville Chapter, No. 24.
He was a member and elder of the First Presbyterian Church, Pictou and sang in
the church choir. He was also a member of the former Pictou Men’s Choir. Alden
made over 100 blood donations to the Canadian Red Cross Society. He was born
with an innate sense for the workings of all things mechanical. Because of this,
Alden’s reputation as a veritable Mr. Fix-or-Create-It grew far and wide in his
community. Part of his generosity in helping others stemmed from the fact that he
loved the challenge of repairing or creating devices. He also enjoyed
woodworking. Alden is survived by his sister, Audrey Christie, Ontario; sisters-inlaw,
Lillian Beck, Hopewell; Elizabeth Gammon, Lyons Brook; Jennie Barnard,
Pictou; Donna Barnard, Ontario; brother-in-law, Alex Munroe, Lyons Brook;
many nieces, nephews and cousins. Alden was predeceased by his beloved wife,
Esther; brothers, Oswell and Otis; sister, Elda Munroe. Visitation will be held 2-4
and 7-9 PM Wednesday in McLaren Funeral Home, Pictou. Funeral will take
place 11:00 AM Thursday from First Presbyterian Church, Pictou, with Rev. Gary
Tonks officiating. Burial will be in Heatherdale Memorial Gardens. Reception to
follow at the church hall. Family flowers only please. Donations in his memory
may be made to the First Presbyterian Church Hall Fund.

FALCONER, Harry R.
Melville
FALCONER, Harry Raymond, Age 92, of Melville, Pictou County, passed away
March 9, 2016 in Aberdeen Hospital, New Glasgow. Born in Caribou, he was a
son of the late Sam & Bessie (Henderson) Falconer.
Public visitation will be held 6- 9 PM Saturday in McLaren Funeral Home, Pictou.
A private family funeral will be held 2:00 PM Sunday in the McLaren Funeral
Home Chapel. Burial will be in the Seaboard Cemetery. Family flowers only
please. Donations in his memory may be made to a charity of your choice.

MacLEOD, Samuel M.
Pictou
MacLEOD, Samuel Martin - Born in Murray Harbour, PEI on March 9, 1928, he
was the last surviving family member of the late Malcolm and Mary MacLeod. He
was a long term employee of 47 years with Northumberland Ferries Ltd. A
lifetime member of the Eastern Star I.O.O.F. Lodge, No. 1, Pictou, he also was an
adherent of the St. James Anglican Church, Pictou. Dad passed away quietly on
Monday, March 7, 2016 in the Shiretown Nursing Home, Pictou, which he
considered his home for the past several years. He was known for his quick wit,
funny stories and his love of bingo. Sam will be missed by all he socialized with
on a daily basis. Dad's greatest love was the visitation of family and in particular
his great-grandchildren who were always the beneficiaries of his Bingo winnings,
and it brought beaming smiles to his face to see them. He was predeceased by his
wife of sixty years, Audrey (Prest); infant daughter, Cathleen Merinda; and son-inlaw,
John Stewart. Sam is survived by his son, Charles (Paula), Cape Breton;
daughter, Sylvia Stewart, Scotsburn; and son, Richard (Carol), Sinclair’s Island; as
well as eight grandchildren and eleven great-grandchildren. Visitation will be held
Saturday from 10:30AM until the time of service at 11AM, both in the McLaren
Funeral Home Chapel, Pictou, with Rev. Darlene Jewers officiating, Burial to
follow in Heatherdale Memorial Gardens. Family flowers only. In lieu of flowers,
donations in his memory may be made to a charity of your choice.
