HILTZ, Lionel William
HILTZ, Lionel William - 82, Gold River, Lunenburg Co., died April 24, 2000, at home. Born in Marriott's Cove, he was a son of the late Herbert and Ethel (Maddeford) Hiltz. He was a member of the Royal Canadian Legion, Everett Branch 88, Chester Basin. Lionel served in the Merchant Navy from 1936-1947. He later worked in Lunar Park, then in construction for Robie Kaizer and later with Haliday Craftsman. He retired from the Maintenance Dept. of the Halifax City School Board after seventeen years of service in 1983. He is survived by his wife, the former Iris C. Hatt; sons, Gregory and his wife Brenda, Gold River; daughter, Dorothy and husband Bruce Close, Larder Lake; sisters, Clara (Mrs. Bruce Oxner), Prue, (Mrs. Earl Zwicker), Chester Basin; Laurel, (Mrs. Bill Smith), Chester; brothers, Horace (Amelia) Hiltz, Chester; Grant (Florence) Hiltz, Bridgewater; sister-in-law, Joyce Hiltz, Marriott's Cove; grandchildren, Andrew Close, Halifax; Jennifer (Kevin) Height, Dartmouth; Timothy (Heather) Hiltz, Chester Basin; Dorothy Hiltz, Gold River; several nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by brother, Carl Hiltz. Visitation 2-4, 7-9 p.m. Wednesday in Davis Funeral Home, Chester. Funeral service will be 2:30 p.m. Thursday in United Baptist Church, Western Shore, Rev. Leo Gallant officiating. Burial in the church cemetery. In lieu of flowers, donations in memory may be made to Western Shore United Baptist Church Cemetery Fund, Canadian Cancer Society or charity of one's choice.

COLLINS, Merton Dale
COLLINS, Merton Dale - 51, Front Centre, Lunenburg Co., died Sunday, April 16, 2000, in the Fishermen's Memorial Hospital, Lunenburg. Born in Parrsboro, he was a son of the late Robert and Irene (Henwood) Collins. In his earlier years, he worked for Can AM Plastics, Springhill and after moving to Lunenburg was employed by William Gerhardt Landscaping. He was an adherent of the Baptist Church. He is survived by brother, Earl Collins and companion Pat Tanner, Front Centre; five nieces. He was predeceased by his sister-in-law, Margaret Follett. Visitation will be held from 3:30-5 p.m. and 7-9 p.m. today, in Dana L. Sweeny Funeral Home, 11213 Hwy 3, Lunenburg and from where funeral service will be held at 2 p.m. Wednesday, Rev. Vivian Moores officiating. Interment will be at 1 p.m. Thursday, in Trinity United Church Cemetery, Parrsboro. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to the VON or to any charity.

FULTON, Sedley Roland
FULTON, Sedley Roland - 81, Bridgewater, Lunenburg Co., died April 28, 2000, in the South Shore Regional Hospital, Bridgewater. Born in Upper Stewiacke, he was a son of the late Martin and Harriet (Dickie) Fulton. He was an honorary member of Bridgewater Volunteer Fire Department and a member of the honorary Firefighters Club. He was a member of IOOF LaHave Lodge 60, Bridgewater, recently receiving his 55 year jewel. He was a member of Bridgewater United Church and was an avid camper. He was employed with CNR for 40 years as a locomotive engineer retiring in 1982. Surviving are son, Gerry, Bridgewater; sisters, Muriel Fulton, Halifax; Doris Fisher, Brookfield; brother, Wilfred, East Mountain; numerous nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by his wife, the former Shirley Graham; sisters, Edith, Eva; brothers, Blair, Arthur, Graham. Cremation has taken place. No visitation. Memorial service 1:30 p.m. Friday, May 12, in Bridgewater United Church. Private family burial in Brookside Cemetery, Bridgewater. Family flowers only. Donations to Bridgewater United Church, Bridgewater Fire Department Memorial Fund, Ladies Auxiliary or any charity. Arrangements have been entrusted to R.A. Corkum Funeral Home, Wileville.

WALTERS, Grant Cecil
WALTERS, Grant Cecil - 75, Bridgewater, died May 1, 2000, in the Veterans' Unit, Fishermens Memorial Hospital, Lunenburg. Born in Middle LaHave, he was a son of the late J. Cecil and Gladys (Wilkie) Walters. He was a veteran of the Second World War, serving in the merchant marine. He was a member of Royal Canadian Legion, Branch 24, Bridgewater. Surviving are his wife, the former Brenda Himmelman; daughter, Trina Hardiman, Bridgewater; two grandchildren; sisters, Dawn Mulock, Faye Berdos, Bridgewater; a nephew. Funeral 11 a.m. today in Bridgewater United Church, Rev. Robert Mills officiating. Burial to follow in Brookside Cemetery, Bridgewater. Family flowers only. Donations to South Shore Regional Hospital Foundation, Bridgewater or any charity. Arrangements entrusted to Sweeny's Funeral Home, Bridgewater.

SMITH, Ray - 86, Mount Pleasant, Lunenburg Co., formerly of Wileville, died April 14, 2000, at his son's home in Mount Pleasant. Born in Hemford, he was a son of the late Annis and Ruby (Wagner) Smith. Surviving are son, Maynard, Mount Pleasant; daughter, Melda Horn, Moncton; brother, Wallace; sister, Freda Uhlman, both of Bridgewater; 10 grandchildren; eight great-grandchildren. He was predeceased by sons, Carlton, Aubrey; infant son, Berlin; daughter, Catherine Bush; brothers, Arthur, Roy in infancy. Visitation 7-9 p.m. Sunday, funeral service 11 a.m. Monday, Rev. Perley Tidd officiating, both in Sweeny's Funeral Home, Bridgewater. Burial to follow in Hemford Cemetery. Family flowers only. Donations to Alzheimer Society of Nova Scotia or any charity.

WILKIE, Annie Marguerite - 85, LaHave, died May 4, 2000, in the Hillside Pines Home for Special Care, Bridgewater. Born in Dublin Shore, she was a daughter of the late Lemuel and Emma (Cross) Smith. She was a Post Mistress for the LaHave Post office for 16 years and was an active member of St. James Anglican Church and Guild. She was a member of the Lunenburg County Historical Society and the Golden Pioneers Club. Surviving are her daughter, Margaret Teal, LaHave; son, William Jr. "Bill", Toronto; five grandchildren. She was predeceased by her husband, William "Bill"; brother, James; sisters Mildred, Helen; a brother in infancy. No visitation by request. Funeral service 11 a.m. Saturday, in St. James Anglican Church, LaHave, Rev. Michael Hawkins officiating. Burial in Fort Point Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, donations to St. James Anglican Church, Hillside Pines, Home for Special Care or to any charity. Arrangements are entrusted to Sweeny's Funeral Home, Bridgewater.

BYNG, Greta Ivilla - 72, Stanburne, Lunenburg Co., died May 1, 2000, in Soldiers Memorial Hospital, Annapolis Co. Born in Simpson's Corner, Lunenburg Co. She was the daughter of the late Elvin Rhoddy and the late Frelove (Tufts) Rhoddy. She worked in the flight kitchen at the Halifax Airport, Mount Saint Vincent University and later Dalhousie University as a cleaning supervisor. Surviving are daughters, Frelove Devison, Halifax; Geraldine Howie, Victoria Harbour; sons, Don, P.E.I.; Kenneth, Fall River; sisters, Vinola Drew, Stanburne; Mary Fancy, Enfield; brothers, Primrose, Enfield; Elvin, Halifax; Emery, Enfield; nine grandchildren; two great-grandchildren. She was predeceased by her husband, Gerald Howie; infant son, Franklin; sisters, Esther, Lillian in infancy. Cremation has taken place. Funeral 2 p.m. today in Langille's Funeral Home, New Germany, Lunenburg Co., Rev. Clyde Lowe officiating. Interment of ashes in Hillside Cemetery, Simpson's Corner. Donations to Canadian Diabetes Association or The Lung Association.

MILLIGAN, Phyllis Elaine
MILLIGAN, Phyllis Elaine - 82, Halifax, died February 16, 1999, in the VG Site, QEII. Born in Upper Branch, Lunenburg Co., she was a daughter of the late Reginald and Lillas (Hirtle) Hebb. During the Second World War, she served as a nursing sister in Great Britain. She was the last surviving member of her immediate family. She is survived by a son, John Patrick and his wife Paula; daughter Kathleen and her husband Dennis Snow; grandson, Jeffrey Milligan, all of Halifax. She was predeceased by her husband, John D. "Jack" Milligan. Visitation will be 7-9 p.m. today and 2-4, 7-9 p.m. Friday, in the J.A. Snow Funeral Home, Windsor St., Halifax, where funeral service will be held 10 a.m. Saturday, Rev. E.P. Thompson officiating. Burial in Gate of Heaven Cemetery, Sackville. In lieu of flowers, donations to The Arthritis Society would be appreciated.

SPURRELL, Doris Mildred - 91, Blockhouse, Lunenburg Co., died February 19, 2000, at home. Born in Nictaux, Annapolis Co., she was a daughter of the late Rupert and Etta Mae (Warner) Parker. She was a member of the Emmanuel Fellowship, New Brunswick. Surviving are her husband, Reverend Edmund J. Spurrell; sons Milton and wife Joan, Blockhouse; Reverend Wayne and wife Martha, Pennsylvania; brother, George Parker, South Williamston, Annapolis Co.; grandchildren, Pamela Bergeron, Dartmouth; Amanda Spurrell, Blockhouse; Jimmy and Johnny Spurrell, Ontario; great-grandchildren, Brenton and Quentin Bergeron, Dartmouth; Melissa, Michelle and Micah Spurrell, Chelsy and Jena Spurrell, Ontario. She was predeceased by brothers, Arlis and Charles; sister, Carrie. Visitation will be 2-4 and 7-9 p.m. today, funeral service 2 p.m. Thursday, both in R.A. Corkum Funeral Home, Wileville, Pastor Jack Hooper officiating. Burial in Garden of Rest Cemetery, Blockhouse. Family flowers only. Memorial donations may be made to the Heart and Stroke Foundation of Nova Scotia or the Garden of Rest Cemetery, Blockhouse.

BOLLIVAR, Sharon LaVerne
BOLLIVAR, Sharon LaVerne - 45, Hebbs Cross, died April 19, 1999, in South Shore Regional Hospital, Bridgewater. Born in Bridgewater, she was a daughter of Lincoln and Jean Esther (Fraser) Oickle, Waterloo. She attended Lunenburg Regional Vocational School, Bridgewater, studying cosmetology in 1971. She was employed at Colette Coiffures for nine years before opening her own business in June 1983. She then closed her business in May 1996, due to her illness. Surviving are her husband, Douglas; daughters, Anedra, Kara, at home; sisters, Patricia Rhuland, Bridgewater; Karen Burgess, Windsor; Cindy Robar, Waterloo; brother, Charles, Italy Cross. No visitation at the funeral home by request. Memorial service 1:30 p.m. Thursday in Sweeny's Funeral Chapel, Bridgewater, Rev. David Whynot officiating. Private burial to follow. No flowers by request. Donations to Canadian Cancer Society or Ascension Lutheran Church, Conquerall Mills.
