MacLEAN, Margaret Effie - 79, 120 Kitchener St., formerly of Lingan Road, Sydney, died February 8, 1999, in Cape Breton Regional Hospital. Born in Sydney, she was a daughter of the late John and Effie (MacKay) MacLennan. She was a member of Bethel Presbyterian Church, Bethel AMS and Whitney Pier Pensioners Club. Surviving are daughters, Margaret Rose MacAulay, Sydney; Sharon (Mrs. Brent Dous), Calgary; three grandchildren; two great-grandchildren; sister, Cassie French, Ontario. She was predeceased by her husband, Thomas; sisters, Christie MacRae, Maude Gosse; brothers, Alex, Roderick, John, Edward, Wilbert. There will be no visitation. Cremation has taken place. Memorial service 11 a.m. Friday in Sydney Memorial Chapel, Rev. Robert Lyle and Rev. Georgina Caldwell officiating. Burial in Resurrection Cemetery, Sydney Forks. Donations to any charity.

CHAMBERS, Vivian M.
CHAMBERS, Vivian M. - View Street, North Sydney, died February 1, 1999, at home. Born in North Sydney, she was the daughter of the late Harry and Edna (Musgrave) Whitman. She was a member of Calvary Baptist Church, North Sydney. Surviving are daughter, Tanya Starratt, Bedford; sons, Neil, Ralph, North Sydney; four grandchildren; a great-grandchild. She was predeceased by her husband, Jim. Memorial service was held February 3 in Calvary Baptist Church, Rev. John Hannem officiated. Donations to Calvary Baptist Church, 5 Beech St., North Sydney, NS B2A 1H4.

GARDINER, Carmella - Former resident of McKay's Complex, Reserve Mines, died February 8, 1999, in Seaview Manor, Glace Bay, where she was a guest for the past four years. Born in Glace Bay, she was a daughter of the late Michael Francis and Anne (Kennedy) Gardiner. She was a member of St. Joseph's Church, Reserve Mines, and a former member of McKay's Complex Senior Club. Surviving are sisters, Felicitas (Mrs. Edward Cusack), Reserve; Christine, Preston, Ont.; brother, Pat, Sydney; several nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by brothers, Michael, Fabian, Ambrose; sister, Mary LeBlanc. No visitation by request. Cremation has taken place. Memorial service 2 p.m. Wednesday in St. Joseph's Church, Reserve Mines, Rev. Ray Huntley officiating. Burial to follow in the parish cemetery. Donations to Seaview Manor or St. Joseph's Cemetery Fund. Arrangements entrusted to V.J. McGillivray Funeral Home, Glace Bay.

GORVEATT, Ralph J. W.
GORVEATT, Ralph J. W. - 86, East Cumberland Lodge, Pugwash, formerly of Amherst, died February 8, 1999, in the lodge. Born in Tidnish, he was a son of the late John and Della (Trenholm) Gorveatt. He had worked at Robb's Engineering for over 25 years retiring with a perfect work record. He enjoyed old-time fiddle music. Surviving are his wife, the former Katherine H. Morrison, Port Williams; sons, Glane, Halifax; Dale, Port Williams; sisters, Margaret, New Glasgow; Beulah, Whitby, Ont.; brother, Arnold, Tidnish. He was predeceased by son, Glenn; brother, Floyd. No visitation by request. Cremation has taken place. Graveside service in the spring. In lieu of flowers, donations to East Cumberland Lodge, Pugwash or Victoria Manor, Amherst. Arrangements entrusted to Furlong's Funeral Home, Amherst.

JOHNSON, Frederick Alexander
JOHNSON, Frederick Alexander - 51, died in Toronto on February 6, 1999. Surviving are sons, Darren, Barrie, Ont.; Obidia, Toronto; daughters, RoseAnna, Alexis, Chantelle and Naomi, all of Toronto; his mother, Elsie (Colley) Johnson, Cherrybrook; brothers, Layton, Halifax; Roger, Cherrybrook; sisters, Joan Wyse, Toronto; Jackie Sparks, Cole Harbour. He was predeceased by his father, James Alexander, and sister, Rhoda. Visitation 2-4, 7-9 p.m. Wednesday in J. Albert Walker Funeral Home, Prince Albert Road, Dartmouth. Funeral 1 p.m. Thursday in Cherrybrook United Baptist Church, Rev. Dr. Donald Fairfax officiating, assisted by Rev. Tracey Grosse. Burial to follow in the parish cemetery. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Cherrybrook United Baptist Church renovation fund.

STUBBARD, Peter
STUBBARD, Peter - 46, 764 Neville St., Reserve Mines, died February 8, 1999, in Glace Bay Health Care Complex. Born in Glace Bay, he was a son of Veronica (MacNeil) Stubbard and the late Walter Stubbard. He was a member of St. Joseph's Church, Reserve Mines, and at one time he worked at Cadegans Fish Plant. He was best known for his longtime involvement in community sports at the minor and senior baseball levels. Many teams he coached won numerous provincial and maritime titles. In 1988, he was chosen "Citizen of the Year" by Dominion, Reserve, Gardiner Kinsmen Club. He coached minor hockey for several years at the Dominion Hockey Clinic. He also coached for 10 years in the commercial hockey league. Surviving are his wife, the former Donna Brezuck; daughter, Cindy, Reserve Mines; son, Kevin, at home; brothers, Raymond, Duck, Arthur, Reserve Mines; stepbrothers, Patrick Nolan, Glace Bay; John O'Brien, Glace Bay; sisters, Mary, Toronto; Joan (Mrs. Joe Smith), Reserve Mines; Agnes (Mrs. Dan Gracie), Glace Bay; Theresa, Dominion; Florence McNeil, Reserve Mines; stepsisters, Marge MacDougall, New Waterford; Thelma Snow, Jennie Christie; Toronto; a granddaughter; several nieces and nephews. Visitation 7-9 p.m. today, 2-4, 7-9 p.m. Wednesday in V. J. McGillivray Funeral Home, 16 Reserve St., Glace Bay. Funeral 10 a.m. Thursday in St. Joseph's Church, Reserve Mines, Rev. Ray Huntley officiating. Burial in the parish cemetery.

Surviving are sons, John, Willis, both of Noel; daughters, Isabelle (Mrs. Ralph Brown), Minasville; Ellen (Mrs. Stan McCulloch), Lower Sackville; sisters, Bessie Hiltz, Hantsport; Mary Archibald, Upper Musquodoboit; Beatrice Lynk, Canning; brothers, Glendon, Coldbrook; Harold, Canning; Everett Taber, John, Taber, Alberta; 10 grandchildren; three great-grandchildren. She was predeceased by her husband, Lloyd; brothers, George, William; sister, Hazel Wallace. Cremation has taken place. No visitation by request. Private family committal service 2 p.m. Sunday, burial to follow, both in East Noel Cemetery. Arrangements entrusted to J. Wilson Allen Funeral Home. Donations to Noel Shore Fire Department, Noel, or any charity.

Surviving are sisters, Brenda (Mrs. Christian Samson), Gatineau, Que.; Linda Clarke, Nancy Clarke, Truro; Mirium (Mrs. Allan Butler), Halifax; brothers, Douglas, Niagara Falls, Ont.; Earl, Montreal; Steven, Petawawa, Ont.; several nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by brother, Wayne; stepfather, Earl MacKay. Visitation 7-9 p.m. Saturday, 1 p.m. Sunday until time of memorial service, 2 p.m., all in Mattatall Funeral Home, 55 Young St. Truro, Pastor Dale Kehler officiating. Cremation has taken place. Burial at a later date in Glenholme Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, donations to Vineyard Christian Fellowship, Truro.
