BAILEY, Brian LeCain

60, West Dalhousie. It is with heartwrenching sadness we announce the passing of Brian on February 10, 2009, in Soldiers' Memorial Hospital, Middleton. Born on March 4, 1948, in Annapolis Royal, he was a son of the late Hollis and Kathleen (LeCain) Bailey. Brian retired last year from the Nova Scotia Department of Transportation where he was employed for 30 years. He enjoyed spending time outdoors and loved hunting and fishing and spent many days tinkering around in his garage. He was also very active with the Annapolis County Ground Search and Rescue team. Family meant the world to Brian and he never missed an opportunity to spend time with them. He was predeceased by his parents, grandparents and aunts, uncles and cousins. He is survived by his son, Ryan, West Dalhousie; daughter, April (Troy), Halifax; beloved granddaughter, Carly Grace, Halifax; brother, David (Susan), Tantallon; sisters, Judy, Bridgetown; Diane (Gary), Bridgetown; Susan (Chris), Halifax; as well as many nieces, nephews, cousins and close friends. The family wishes to thank Dr. Grant Goodine and all the nursing staff of the medical unit at Soldiers' Memorial Hospital. Funeral arrangements have been entrusted to Kaulbach Family Funeral Home, Bridgetown. Visitation will be held 2-4, 7-9 p.m. Friday, with funeral service 2 p.m. Saturday, both in Kaulbach Family Funeral Home, Bridgetown, Rev. Richard Walsh officiating. Interment will be in Round Hill Cemetery with reception to follow in Round Hill Hall. Donations in Brian's memory may be sent to the Annapolis County Ground Search and Rescue or to Soldiers' Memorial Hospital Palliative Care Program.

BISHOP (Bartlett), Florence Eileen

88, Shiretown Nursing Home, Pictou, formerly of Kennetcook, Hants Co. It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of our mother who passed away in Shiretown Nursing Home on February 9, 2009. Born in Riverside Corner on September 7, 1920, she was a daughter of the late George Albert and Eusebia (McCulloch) Bartlett. She is survived by her daughters, Rosalie Bishop, Chester; Dianne (Lloyd) MacPhee, Tatamagouche; sons, David (Carol), Montreal; Duane (Gail), Brookside; Brian (Julie), Vancouver Island; nine grandchildren, and four great- grandchildren; sister, Eva Wile, Windsor. Florence was predeceased by her husband, Don of 63 years (July 13, 2003); brothers, Colin and Milton. Cremation has taken place with visitation Friday, February 13 from 7-8 p.m. in J. Wilson Allen Funeral Home, Hwy 354, Kennetcook. A memorial service will be held Saturday, February 14 at 2 p.m. in St. James Presbyterian Church, White Settlement Road., Rev. Lindsay Rankin officating with private family burial at a later date. Family flowers only. Donations in memory can be made to St. James Presbyterian Cemetery Fund or charity of choice. Arrangements entrusted to the compassioniate care of J. Wilson Allen Funeral Home, Hwy 354, Kennetcook, Hants Co. 1-902-362-2440.

KING, Edward Alexander "Eddie"

85, Port Hawkesbury. It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of our beloved husband and father, Edward Alexander King. Eddie, as friends and family knew him, passed away in Strait Richmond Hospital, Evanston, on Tuesday, February 10, 2009. Born in Lower River Inhabitants, Richmond Co.; he was a son of the late Edward and Laura (Embree) King. Eddie was a retired C. N. R. employee, a member of St. Joseph's Parish, Port Hawkesbury. A veteran of the Second World War, serving with the Royal Canadian Navy, and a long-standing member of Royal Canadian Legion Branch 43, Port Hawkesbury. He is survived by his wife of 63 years, Annie (MacLean); sons, John Edward (Rose), Robbie, Sheldon (Sherry), Stephen (Lynn), Donnie (Jocelyn), Paul Allan, Glenn (Donna); daughters, Judy (Vic) Snow, Deanna (Donnie) Deane. Eddie is also survived by his brothers, Leo (Marie), Jimmy (Helen), Walter (Florence), Albert; sisters, Geraldine (Artie) Latimer; Darlene (Buddy) MacLean; 16 grandchildren, five great-grandchildren and numerous nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by son, Patrick; brothers, Carl, Earl, Cecil and sister, Kaye Cotie. Visitation will be held 7-9 p.m. today with a Vigil Service at 7 p.m. and 2-4 and 7-9 p.m. Friday in Dennis Haverstock Funeral Home, Port Hawkesbury. Funeral mass will be held 10 a.m. Saturday in St. Joseph's Roman Catholic Church, Port Hawkesbury, with Father Andrew Boyd officiating. Burial in the parish cemetery at a later date. Donations in memory of Eddie may be made to Strait Richmond Palliative Care Society.

MUSGRAVE, Margaret

Died Tuesday, February 10, 2009. She was a daughter of the late Alex and Katie (MacLean) MacDonald. Wife of Albert; mother of Kathy Manning; sister of Catherine Lewis (Ray); brother of Norman; grandmother of Kyle and Alanna Manning. Also survived by many nieces and nephews. Predeceased by son, Bert; sister, Annie Mae Carroll; brothers, John, Neil, Donnie; son-in-law, Bobby Manning. There will be no visitation. Funeral service will be held Friday at 3:30 p.m. in T.W. Curry Parkview Chapel.

MARSMAN, Viola Rachel

83, of Upper Hammonds Plains, passed away peacefully on February 10, 2009, in the Halifax Infirmary, QEII. She was the daughter of the late Jeremiah and Matilda (Emmerson) David. Viola was a faithful member of Emmanuel Baptist Church for 50 years, a choir member, a Sunday school teacher and past president of the Ladies Auxiliary. She had been employed with the VG Nurses' Residence for 20 years. Mom loved quilting, sewing and knitting. She was very dedicated to her children and looked forward to Sunday dinners and special occasions. Mom loved to travel and spend time with relatives. She will be sadly missed by family and friends who loved her. She is survived by daughters, Phyllis (Al) Toronto, Ont.; Glenda, Halifax; sons, Ray and Sheldon, Montreal, Que.; Anthony (Tina), Eddie (Maryanne), both of Halifax; Craig, Dartmouth; Graham, Upper Hammonds Plains; sister, Ina Lewis, Texas; brother, Holly David, Halifax; stepbrothers, Donald and Ernest; 24 grandchildren; 18 great-grandchildren and two great great-grandchildren. She was predeceased by her husband, Tremaine; sons, Courtland, Milton and Elliton; sisters, Cleo Whiley, Helena Barton, Walleta David; brothers, Leeman, Raymond, Carl and Leroy David. Visitation will be held 2-4 and 7-9 p.m. Friday, February 13, in Emmanuel Baptist Church, 633 Pockwock Rd., Upper Hammonds Plains, B4B 1N8. Funeral service 2 p.m. on Saturday, February 14, in Emmanuel Baptist Church, Rev. Dr. Lennett J. Anderson, Jr. officiating. Interment will take place in Upper Hammonds Plains Community Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Emmanuel Baptist Church Building Fund. Arrangements entrusted to T.K. Barnard Funeral Home, Sackville.

CURRIE, Vernon Alwyn

86, Bridgewater, Lunenburg Co., passed away Monday, February 9, 2009, in South Shore Regional Hospital, Bridgewater, after a brief illness. Born June 25, 1922, in Pleasant Valley, Yarmouth Co., he was a son of the late Jacob Norman and Norma Theresa (Spinney) Currie. Vern was a member of Lunenburg County Fiddlers' Club, Nova Scotia Country Music Hall of Fame and Kiwanis Club of Bluenose Golden "K" (Past President). He was a long-time employee of Dartmouth Cable TV until his retirement in 1987. He is survived by his wife, Thelma (Archibald-Duffy); sons, Brian, Douglas, Lawrence; daughter, Dale (Don) Campanaro; sister, Shirley (John) Cassulo; grandchildren, Jacob, Vincent, Espè, Meghan; stepdaughters, Linda (Eric) Hodgson; Maureen (Michael) Mason; Marrilee Duffy (Ken Nickerson); stepgrandchildren, Shannon, William, Gwyn; daughter-in law, Ellie (Joliat), wife of Lawrence. He was predeceased by his first wife, Dorothy (Lawrence) Currie. Memorial service will be held 2 p.m. Saturday, February 14, in Bridgewater Baptist Church, 307 King St., Bridgewater. Reception to follow in church hall. No flowers by request. Memorial donations may be made to the Canadian Cancer Society.

TRUEMAN, Donald Carlyle

Hilden, passed away on Monday, February 16, 2009, at home. Born in 1931, he was a son of the late Henry and Stella (Freeman) Trueman. Donald's early years were spent on the family farm in Truemanville. During the war he was a spotter for the Air Craft Detection Core. He graduated from the Forest Ranger School in Fredericton in 1955 and spent his working years in Forest Inventory with the then Department of Lands and Forests in Truro, becoming supervisor, and retiring in 1986. He is survived by his wife, Marilyn (MacCallum); sister, Shirley (Roderick) Beherrell, Ontario; nieces, Barbara, Nancy and Lisa; nephew, Jeffery; mother-in-law, Edythe MacCallum, Truro. Visitation will be held today from 7-9 p.m. with funeral service on Thursday, February 19, at 2 p.m., both in Colchester Community Funeral Home, 512 Willow St., Truro, Dr. Brian Ross officiating. Interment at a later date in Bible Hill Cemetery. Family flowers only. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to Canadian Cancer Society or to a charity of choice.

ELLIOTT, Reginald "Reg"

75, of Dartmouth, passed away February 18, 2009, in Dartmouth General Hospital. Born in Carleton, P.E.I., he was a son of the late Charles and Margaret (Arsenault) Elliott. Reg retired in 1997 from the City of Dartmouth after 28 years. He enjoyed spending time with family and was a devoted sports fan. Surviving are his wife of 49 years, Betty (Richards); son, Scott (Ruth), of Dartmouth; daughters, Sharron (Dan) Oxner of Dartmouth; Judy (Moe) Gravel of Ottawa, Ont.; brothers, Ray, of Ontario; Henry, of Summerside, P.E.I.; sister, Mae Cater, of Ontario; grandchildren, Kristine and Mark Elliott, Scott and Debra Oxner, Jeffrey and John Zwicker, Brandy and Dale; several nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by brothers, Albert, Scott and Leroy; sisters, Nora Bryanton and Jenny Rayner. Cremation has taken place. Visitation will be held today from 7-9 p.m. in Atlantic Funeral; Home, 771 Main St., Dartmouth. A funeral mass will be held Saturday, February 21, at 2 p.m. in Our Lady of Assumption Chapel, Shearwater. A private family burial will take place in Dartmouth Memorial Gardens followed by a reception for family and friends in Atlantic Funeral Home reception centre. Donations in Reg's memory may be made to Canadian Cancer Society.

TURPIN, Nina Geraldine

85, of Marriott's Cove, passed away Wednesday, February 18, 2009, in South Shore Regional Hospital, Bridgewater. Born in Port Mouton, her favorite leisure time was spent going to bingo and attending her flower gardens. Nina spent a lot of her life in different parts of the world along with her husband. Retirement brought them back to Nova Scotia in 1977, where they resided in Oakhill for 26 years. There they met two special girls, Shannon (Burress) Lake and Melissa (Banfield) Meisner, whom they both loved as their own. Nina's past six years were spent with Arthur and Kelley Piercy, who provided her with loving care. Nina will be sadly missed but never forgotten by Arthur, Kelley and family; Shannon and Melissa. The family wishes to thank the staff on 3rd floor of South Shore Regional Hospital for the care and compassion shown to Nina and family. She is survived by sister, Elaine Roy, Port Mouton; and many nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by her husband, Gordon and several brothers and sisters. A graveside service will be held at a later date in Brookside Cemetery, Bridgewater. No flowers or visitation by request. Memorial donations may be made to the Canadian National Institute of the Blind, 6136 Almon St., Halifax, NS B3K 1T8 or Canadian Diabetes Association. Arrangements entrusted to Sweeny's Funeral Home, Bridgewater.

GIBSON, Wilma Elaine

Age 76, of Mountain Road, New Glasgow, passed away Wednesday, February 18, 2009, at the home of her sister, Myrna. Born in Drumhead, Guysborough Co., she was a daughter of the late Bruce and Mary Claudine (Hodgson) Smith. She was a supportive navy spouse during her husband's 25 year naval career. She was a member of First United Baptist Church, New Glasgow. She was a past Matron of the Order of the Eastern Star and held the Office of Ruth and was a member of the Ladies Auxiliary, Royal Canadian Legion Branch 34, the Michelin Social Club and the 55 Plus Club. She is survived by daughters, Captain Cathy Gibson, Halifax; Captain Sharon Gibson (Captain Coleman Spence), Greenwood; grandson, Hunter Spence; sister, Myrna MacPherson, Anderson's Mountain; brother, Marland "Bud" (Shirley), Kentville; nephews, Donald, Jimmy, MacKay, John, Larry and Elmer; niece, Linda Mason. She was predeceased by her husband, Hugh Gibson; brothers, Bruce and Arden. Visitation 2-4 and 7-9 p.m. today in R.H. Porter Funeral Home, New Glasgow. Funeral service 2 p.m. Saturday in First United Baptist Church, New Glasgow, with Rev. Leo Fletcher officiating. Reception to follow in the church hall. Burial will be in Abercrombie Cemetery at a later date. Donations in her memory may be made to the S.P.C.A. or First United Baptist Church Pledge Campaign. Order of the Eastern Star will meet at the funeral home at 6:30 p.m. today to hold their service.
