Esther ROLFE
1931-2009

ROLFE, Esther - 77, Bramber, Hants Co. It is with great sadness that the family of Esther Rolfe announces her passing on Saturday, March 14, 2009, at the Hants Community Hospital in Windsor. Born in Britt, Ont. on December 23, 1931, she was the daughter of the late Herman and Lillian (Besner) Belanger.

Esther was a devoted and loving wife, mother and sister, who delighted in spending time with her family, and as a homemaker, she dedicated her life to them. In her younger years she was a seamstress for T. Eaton Company in Toronto, where she met her husband. After moving to Nova Scotia, she helped on the family farm raising animals and vegetable gardening. She took pleasure in sewing, flower gardening, and breathing that great shore air.

Esther is survived by her loving husband, of almost 60 years, James Rolfe, Bramber; children, Patricia (Lyle) Brown, Sweets Corner; Cheryl (Dave) Millard, Union Corner; Roger (Mary Anne) Rolfe, Peggy's Cove and Wendy (Peter) Aalders, Bridgetown; ten grandchildren, seven great-grandchildren; siblings, Mary (Frank) Outram, Parry Sound, Ont.; Ethel (Tom) Nolan, Orangeville, Ont.; Kay Martel, Sudbury, Ont.; Hulda (Rollie) Dumont, Sudbury, Ont.; Elizabeth (Andy) Root, Holland, New York, U.S.A.; Dave (Janet) Belanger, Parry Sound, Ont.; George Belanger, Newmarket, Ont. Esther was predeceased by daughter, Karen Rolfe (Crossley); siblings, Nora (Leo) Corbit, Jim, Bobby and Arnold Belanger, also an infant sister, Clara.

Arrangements have been entrusted to Lohnes - DeMont Funeral Service Ltd., 419 Albert St., Windsor (902-798-8317). A private family only funeral service will be held in the Lohnes - DeMont Funeral Service Chapel with interment in Bramber Cemetery, Bramber. In lieu of flowers, donations in memory of Esther may be made to Heart and Stroke Foundation of Nova Scotia, The Arthritis Society, Victorian Order of Nurses - Hants West Branch, or a charity of your choice. The family wishes to thank all friends, homecare workers, nurses and doctors that helped along the path.

Muriel CRISS
1924-2009

CRISS, Muriel - 84, Three Mile Plains, formerly of Canning, passed away peacefully Saturday, March 21, 2009, in Haliburton Place, Hants Community Hospital, Windsor. Born in Yarmouth, she was a daughter of the late Edward and Mary (Franklin) Bernard.

Muriel is survived by daughters, Verna (Captain John) Upshaw, Three Mile Plains; Carolyn (Donald) Jones, Scarborough, Ont.; sister, Vera Gibson, Halifax; eight grandchildren and eleven great-grandchildren. She was predeceased by her husband, Charles Criss; ten month old daughter, Margaret; seven year old grandchild, Kelvin Upshaw; brothers, George and Harold; sisters, Mildred Brown and Catherine Blagdon.

Arrangements for cremation have been entrusted to Lohnes - DeMont Funeral Service Ltd., 419 Albert St., Windsor (902-798-8317). There will be no visitation by request. Memorial service will be held 2 p.m. Saturday, March 28, in Kingdom Hall of Jehovah’s Witnesses, 7027 Hwy 14, Sweets Corner, Mr. Blair Jess officiating. In lieu of flowers, donations in memory of Muriel may be made to the Annapolis Royal Congregation of Jehovah’s Witnesses.

Glenn Donald COFFILL
1932-2009

COFFILL, Glenn Donald - 76, Windsor, Hants Co., passed away peacefully at home on Wednesday, April 8, 2009. Born in Grand Pre, June 13, 1932, he was a son of the late Walter and Thelma (Card) Coffill. Glenn is survived by his wife, Mamie (Hartt), Windsor; daughter, Glenda Huska, Halifax; step-daughter, Bernice (Karl) Levy, Sherwood, Lunenburg Co.; sisters, Lillian (Gordon) Davidson, Gaspereau; Iva (Marvin) Rafuse, Upper Vaughan; Linda McBay, Grand Pre; brother, Rae (Terry) Fuller, Toronto; sister-in-law, Kate Fuller, Manitoba; special niece, Anna (Jim) DeVinny, Vaughan, and several nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by brothers, Gordon, Ralph, John and sister, Greta. Arrangements for cremation have been entrusted to Lohnes - DeMont Funeral Service Ltd., 419 Albert St., Windsor (902-798-8317). There will be no visitation or service at Glenn’s request. A private family committal service will be held 10 a.m. Monday, April 13 in Maplewood Cemetery, Windsor, Rev. E.E. Hill officiating. Donations in memory may be made to a charity of one’s choice.

Alfreda Vivian WELLS
1919-2009

WELLS, Alfreda Vivian - 90, Churchill, Man., formerly of Windsor, passed away peacefully with friends by her side on Saturday, April 18, 2009, one month past her 90th birthday. Born March 18, 1919, she was a daughter of the late Norris and Ethel (Leighton) Kelley.

Alfreda was a lifetime member of the Salvation Army Corps, Windsor as well as the Home League and League of Mercy. She owned and operated Wells' Garbage and Collection for many years in Windsor. She opened her door to anyone who needed help, a place to stay or simply a meal. Alfreda cared and raised her children as well as many others. Even after moving to Churchill she cared for others. At Christmas time she could always be found ringing the bell with the kettle.

Alfreda is survived by daughters, Marion Knox, Mt. Uniacke; Christine Wells-Parker, Windsor; April Jarvis, Sackville and Vivian Wells, Windsor; son, Timothy Wells, Windsor; stepsons, Burton Wells, Red Deer, Alta., and Clifford Wells, Windsor; sisters, Ann (Mrs. Clarey Church) and Marion Kelley-Pick; brothers, Albert and Peter Kelley; also numerous grandchildren, stepgrandchildren and great-grandchildren. She was predeceased by her husband, James Wells; son, John, in infancy; stepsons, Francis Wells and James Wells; grandchildren, Lee Wells, Jacob McLean and Kelly Marie Masters; sisters, Lillian, Sadie, Alice, Clarissa; brothers, Ralph, Alfred, William, Charles, Harley, Aubrey, Owen and Cyril.

Arrangements have been entrusted to Lohnes - DeMont Funeral Service Ltd., 419 Albert St., Windsor (902-798-8317). At Alfreda's request she will be buried in Churchill, Man. A memorial service will be held 2 p.m. Thursday, April 23, in Lohnes - DeMont Funeral Service Chapel, Rev. Blaine Eldridge officiating. Lilian Winifred DIXON
1923-2009
Lilian Winifred DIXON
DIXON, Lilian Winifred - Passed away peacefully on April 22, 2009, leaving a final kiss on the cheek of her only great- grandchild. Born in England on August 25, 1923, she was a daughter of John and Martha Tickle.

Having lived through the war years in England, she met and married Albert Dixon in 1945. With the help of Ralph S. Parsons of Windsor, Albert emigrated to Canada in 1946 and Mum followed several months later with their three month old son, Ralph, to begin a new life in Canada. Two more children, Kathryn and Richard were born in Canada. In her middle years Mum went to night school to learn typing and clerical work which led her to a job at Payzant Memorial Hospital and then Hants Community Hospital in which she took great pride and pleasure. Mum's hobbies included gardening, knitting and bowling as well as a love of animals and nature. In her retirement she enjoyed a number of winter trips to the warm waters and sunny beaches of the South.

She is survived by sons, Ralph (Cathy), Vaughan's; Richard, Three Mile Plains; daughter, Kathryn (Wayne) Archibald, Ste. Croix; sister, June Kennedy of Ormskirk, England; grandsons, Jason and Jeremy (Melissa) Dixon and their mother, Shirley Dixon, Wolfville; Jefferson Archibald, Whistler, B.C.; Joseph (Carrie) Archibald, Halifax and only granddaughter, Elizabeth (James) Archibald-Nelson and their daughter, Grammy's beloved great-granddaughter, Madelynn; a number of nieces and nephews in England. Lilian was predeceased by her husband, Albert E. Dixon; brothers, Jack and Fred of England and her friend and companion, Stewart Johnson.

Arrangements have been entrusted to Lohnes - DeMont Funeral Service Ltd., 419 Albert St., Windsor (902-798-8317). There will be no formal visitation. Funeral service will take place on Sunday, April 26 at 2 p.m. in St. John's Presbyterian Church, Windsor with Rev. Jean MacAulay officiating. Interment will be held in Maplewood Cemetery, Windsor. Family flowers only please. Memorial donations may be made to Hants Community Hospital, the Victorian Order of Nurses or simply plant some spring bulbs in your garden as it was her favourite time of year.

"As for me, I'll be off somewhere, running on the beach, or maybe, tending to my flowers! I'll be there, waiting for you. Take your time."

Betty P. ATWELL
1938-2009

ATWELL, Betty Pauline - 70, Ardoise, Hants Co., passed away Saturday, May 2, 2009, in Hants Community Hospital, Windsor. Born in Halifax, she was the daughter of the late Owen and Viola (Shubley) Bowie.

Betty enjoyed spending time caring for her family, looking after her home, watching wildlife and going for drives. She is survived by her husband of 52 years, Terry G. Atwell; daughter, Connie (Joseph) LeBrun, Halifax; son, Wayne (Susan), Sackville; four grandchildren and two great-grandchildren; brothers, Mick Bowie, Windsor, and Gerald Bowie, Ontario.

Arrangements have been entrusted to Lohnes - DeMont Funeral Service Ltd., 419 Albert St., Windsor (902-798-8317), where the family will receive visitors from 7-9 p.m. Tuesday, May 5. Funeral service will be held 4 p.m. Wednesday, May 6, in Lohnes - DeMont Funeral Service Chapel, Rev. Jeffrey G. White officiating. Interment will be held in Maplewood Cemetery, Windsor. Donations in memory of Betty may be made to a charity of one’s choice.

William Gordon “Bill” REGAN
1952-2008

REGAN, William Gordon “Bill” - 55, Dartmouth/Windsor. It is with much sadness that we announce the passing of our father, son, brother, and friend Bill, who succumbed to his illness on Thursday March 20, 2008.

Born September 18, 1952 in Halifax, he was the son of Parker Norman Regan and Betty Joan Regan. Bill was an avid outdoorsman, enjoying activities such as, snowmobiling, hunting, fishing and gardening. He was a prominent businessman in Windsor, most notably at the Ski-Doo dealership, R.D. Holmes. He was also known for his very creative sense of humour.

Bill is survived by his loving children, Karley Lynn, Calgary, Alta.; Barrett William, Ellershouse; Kelsey Lauren, Halifax. He is also survived by his parents, Parker (Jean) Regan, Windsor; and Betty Joan Regan, Halifax; brother, Bruce (Debbie), Windsor; and sister, Barbara, Toronto, Ont.; also niece, Nataly and nephew, Mathew.

Arrangements for cremation have been entrusted to Lohnes Funeral Service, 419 Albert St., Windsor (902-798-8317), where the family will receive visitors 7-9 p.m. Wednesday, March 26. A service celebrating the life of Bill Regan will be held 3:30 p.m. Thursday, March 27, in Lohnes Funeral Service Chapel, Rev. Bill Gibson officiating. A reception will follow in the funeral home’s Elmcroft Reception Centre. A private family interment will be held in Card Beach Rd. Cemetery. Family flowers only, please. Guy Joseph LALONDE
1946-2008

LALONDE, Guy Joseph - 61, Lower Vaughan, passed away suddenly on Monday, April 7, 2008. Born in Ottawa, Ontario. Guy retired after a long career with Rockwell International (Allen-Bradley). Guy was a member of the Chalet Hamlet RCMP/COPS program and also involved in the South West Hants Fire Society. Guy is survived by his loving wife, Monika and two children, Angela (Collins), Newfoundland and Danny, South Korea; grandchildren, Parker and Mi Rae; brothers, John and Robert; sisters, Lise and Jocelyne. Arrangements for cremation have been entrusted to Lohnes Funeral Service, 419 Albert St., Windsor (902-798-8317). There will be no visitation. A memorial service will be held at 2 pm. on Saturday, May 3, 2008 at the Lower Vaughan United Church, with a reception to follow at the South West Hants Fire Hall, 1884 Highway 14, Lower Vaughan. Captain Dan PITCHER
1923-2008

PITCHER, Captain Dan - 84, Windsor, Hants Co., formerly of Halifax, passed peacefully into the arms of his Lord and Savior Jesus Christ on Wednesday, April 23, 2008, in Hants Community Hospital, Windsor. Born in Wandsworth, Newfoundland, he was a son of the late Matthew and Winnifred (Paul) Pitcher. Dan was a loving son, husband, father, grandfather, great-grandfather and friend to all. He left school at an early age to go fishing with his grandfather. Dan left Newfoundland in 1946 to begin his journey toward becoming a Sea Captain. During his fishing career he traveled to many different fishing villages including Mulgrave and Louisburg, where he raised his loving family. He also had the opportunity to travel to Holland to bring back the Cape Dauphin fishing vessel for the National Sea Products Company. Dan was the top highliner for many years. He later worked for IMP for many years and then went back to work as a Captain on the Alfred Needler research boat for the Dept. of Fisheries and Ocean. Dan and Mae spent many years in Halifax, retiring to Windsor, where they have resided for the last three years. In his spare time, Dan enjoyed doing needlepoint making sure that all of his grandchildren and great-grandchildren had one, and was currently working on one for his newest great-granddaughter. Dan is survived by his wife of 59 years, the former Mae Clark; daughters, Flora (Eli); Wanda (Vincent); Masie (John); grandchildren, Norman (Elizabeth), Rob (Sharron), Terrance (Lisa), Sheldon (Trudy), John-Matthew (Elizabeth), Candace (Brad), Melissa (Mason), James, Jamie (Joe); great-grandchildren, Brandon, Christian, Madison, Page, Liam, Parker and Ava; brother, Cpt. Joe (Janet) Pitcher; sisters, Winnie (Harry) and twins Ruth and Grace. Dan was predeceased by his daughter, and name sake, Danna; sisters, Edna in infancy and Edna. Arrangements have been entrusted to Lohnes Funeral Service, 419 Albert St., Windsor (902-798-8317), where the family will receive visitors from 2-4 and 7-9 p.m., Friday, April 25. Funeral service will be held at 2 p.m. on Saturday, April 26, in Lohnes Funeral Service Chapel, Rev. Jeffrey White officiating. A reception will follow in the funeral home's Elmcroft Reception Centre followed by a private family interment in Elm Grove Cemetery, Steam Mill. Myra Hazel CROSSLEY
1925-2008

CROSSLEY, Myra Hazel - 83, Windsor, passed away peacefully Thursday, May 8, 2008, in Dykeland Lodge, Windsor. Born in Bramber, she was a daughter of the late Benjamin and Elizabeth (Rolfe) Lake. Myra loved to cook. She also enjoyed camping and shopping, as well as spending time with her family. She is survived by daughters, Janet (Lloyd) Hawboldt, Edith (Steve) Baxter; son, Robert; five grandchildren and three great-grandchildren. Myra was predeceased by her husband, Alfred; sisters, Bertha McLellan, Alva Crossley, Maude Lake, Minnie McLellan, and Leona Lake; brothers, Jim, Pleman, and Wallace Lake. Arrangements for cremation have been entrusted to Lohnes Funeral Service, 419 Albert St., Windsor (902-798-8317). A public graveside service will be held 2 p.m. Saturday, May 10, in Bramber Cemetery, Bramber. Family flowers only. Donations in memory of Myra may be made to a charity of one’s choice.

Ivan Bruce VAUGHAN
1933-2008

VAUGHAN, Ivan Bruce - 75, formerly of Windsor, Hants Co., passed away on Sunday, August 10, 2008, in Hemet, Calif., U.S.A. He was born on March 17, 1933, in Windsor and was the fourth son of the late James Alexander and Olive Pearl (Kilcup) Vaughan. As a young man in Windsor, Ivan was an agent with Metropolitan Life Insurance Company and a travelling sales agent for Hants Wholesalers, before moving to California with the Metropolitan. He was later employed as an agent for a swimming pool organization. His chief hobbies had been woodworking and carving combined with stained window production. He was also a kind, helping and caring friend to all, in every way possible. Ivan is survived by his loving wife of 33 years, Jean, and his devoted stepdaughter, Patricia. Also surviving are his siblings, Shirley Bowness, British Columbia; Avery (Helena) Windsor; Pauline (David), Dartmouth; Garth (Lauren), Windsor and Little Narrows, Cape Breton; many nieces and nephews and their families. He was predeceased by his parents; sister, Irma Rogers; brother, Harold; sisters-in-law, Muriel and Hazel; brothers-in-law, Clarence and Allan. Cremation has taken place and will be followed by a memorial service in Hemet at a later date.
