Daisy “Jean” WELLS

WELLS, Daisy “Jean” - 71, Garlands Crossing, Hants Co., passed away Wednesday, January 2, 2008, in QEII Health Sciences Centre, Halifax. Born March 22, 1936, in North Range, Digby Co., she was a daughter of the late Benjamin Cornelius and Mary Viola (Melanson) MacLeod.

Jean is survived by her husband of 53 years, Clifford Earle; daughter, Mary (John) Woodworth, Windsor; sons, Gerald “Gerry” (Karen), Ellershouse; Michael, at home; grandson, Troy (Brandy) Wells, Cameron Lake; great-grandchildren, Nakia and Hayden, Cameron Lake; sisters, Ruby (Norman) Blanchard, Ardoise; Audrey MacDougall, New Minas; Dianna (Robert) Lavers, Garlands Crossing; also many nieces and nephews. Besides her parents, Jean was predeceased by her sister, Elva Crossley; brothers, Edward “Johnny”, Lloyd “Snowball” and Leslie in infancy.

Arrangements for cremation have been entrusted to Lohnes Funeral Service, 419 Albert St., Windsor (902-798-8317). As per Jean’s wishes there will be no visitation or funeral service. A graveside service will be held at a later date in Maplewood Cemetery, Windsor. Donations in memory of Jean may be made to Heart and Stroke Foundation of Nova Scotia, 5161 George St., 7th Floor, Halifax, NS B3J 1M7.

Edna Mabel STRUM
1915-2008

STRUM, Edna Mabel - 93, Windsor, Hants Co., passed away peacefully Sunday, November 16, 2008, in Dykeland Lodge, Windsor. Born in South Branch, Colchester Co., she was a daughter of the late William and Ruth (Archibald) Nelson.

Edna is survived by her son, John (Judy) Strum, Windsor; grandchildren, Jonathan, Jeffrey, Matthew and Alex; daughter-in-law, Ann MacGregor-Strum, Halifax; sister, Anna Ross and Edna’s special friend, Gladys Best. She was predeceased by her husband, Roger E. Strum; son, Brian; sisters, Isabel, Jean, Leana, Mary and Margaret; brothers, Stanfield, Warren and George.

Arrangements have been entrusted to Lohnes-DeMont Funeral Service, 419 Albert St., Windsor (902-798-8317). There will be no visitation by request. The memorial service will be held 2 p.m. Thursday, November 20, in Lohnes-DeMont Funeral Service Chapel, Rev. David Curry officiating. A reception will follow in the funeral home’s Elmcroft Reception Centre. Private family interment will be held in Maplewood Cemetery, Windsor. Family flowers only by request, however donations in memory of Edna may be made to Christ Church Anglican, 543 King St., Windsor, NS B0N 2T0 or Friends of Dykeland Lodge, 124 Cottage St., Windsor, NS B0N 2T0.

Hazel Gertrude TREFRY
1920-2008

TREFRY, Hazel Gertrude - 88, Falmouth, Hants Co., passed away peacefully on Thursday, December 25, 2008, in Hants Community Hospital, Windsor, surrounded by her loving family. Born in Woodstock, N.B. she was a daughter of the late Arnold and Mildred (Eldridge) Roberts.

Hazel was a proud member of the Aliens Women’s Group at the Falmouth United Baptist Church. She enjoyed various outdoor activities, especially gardening. She was very proud of her family and loved spending every moment with them.

Hazel is survived by her sons, David (Sandra), St. Croix; Ross (Jane), Halifax; Eric (June), Falmouth; Brian (Judy), Elmsdale; and daughter, Nancy (Dale) Harnish, Falmouth; 11 grandchildren and five great-grandchildren; brother, Carl (Evelyn) Roberts, McAdam, N.B. Hazel was predeceased by her husband, Emerson James Trefry (2002); brother, Malcolm Roberts.

Arrangements have been entrusted to Lohnes - DeMont Funeral Service, 419 Albert St., Windsor (902-798-8317), where the family will receive visitors from 6-8 p.m. Monday, December 29. The funeral service will be held at 1 p.m. Tuesday, December 30, in Lohnes - DeMont Funeral Service Chapel, Rev. Wayne Merrill officiating. A reception will be held in the funeral home’s Elmcroft Reception Centre, followed by the interment in Centre Falmouth Cemetery, Falmouth. Family flowers only by request. Donations in memory of Hazel may be made to Falmouth United Baptist Church; Canadian Cancer Society, or a charity of one's choice.

Dorothy L. TRACEY
1911-2009

TRACEY, Dorothy Lavenia "Dot" — 97, Windsor, passed away peacefully Wednesday, June 3, 2009, in Dykeland Lodge, Windsor. Born December 16, 1911, she was a daughter of the late Frank and Laura (Lockhart) Harvey.

Dorothy was known by many as "Dot". She was a member of Brooklyn United Church and the church choir, as well as the United Church Women's Institute. She was also a devoted member of the Brooklyn Volunteer Fire Dept. Ladies Auxiliary.

Dorothy is survived by son, Cecil, Windsor; daughters, Barbara (James) Robertson, Beaumont, Alta.; Delores (William) Lynch, Prince George, B.C.; Carolyn (Ralph) Romans, Kelowna, B.C.; many grandchildren, great-grandchildren and great great- grandchildren; sister, Camilla, Halifax. She was predeceased by her husband, Joseph; daughter, Iris; son, Jackie; grandsons, Peter and Jimmie; sisters, Florence, Glenna and Rhoda; brothers, Robert, Roland and Ernest.

Arrangements for cremation have been entrusted to Lohnes - DeMont Funeral Service Ltd., 419 Albert St., Windsor (902-798-8317). A private family burial will take place at a later date. Donations in memory of Dorothy may be made to the Brooklyn Volunteer Fire Department Fundraising or to a charity of one's choice.

Brendan B. FORSYTH
1942-2009

FORSYTH, Brendan Blaize - 67, Windsor, Hants Co., died Friday, May 8, 2009 in the Halifax Infirmary, QEII. Born in Dublin, Ireland, he was the son of the late John and Mary (Moran) Forsyth.

After coming to Canada from Ireland as a child, he left school early to seek his fortune with the Royal Canadian Navy, where he served for 25 years. Brendan was the official timekeeper at “Pocket’s”, when he arrived promptly at 4:30 p.m. it signaled the start of happy hour. He was a member of the Royal Canadian Legion for over 26 years, he judged many Remembrance Day Literary and Poster contests for the legion in support of the Poppy Fund. Brendan was a gifted artist and published cartoonist as well as a tri-athlete; competing in reading, walking and eating ice cream events.

He is survived by his wife, Marilyn Lamb; daughters, Roberta and Kate and their families; sisters, Maisie and Betty; brother, Tom along with their families. Besides his parents, he was predeceased by his brother, John.

The family wishes to extend many thanks to the staff of the Halifax Infirmary, OEII, for their care of Brendan. At Brendan’s request we’ll “lift a glass or two” in his honour to celebrate his life and for all to tell their best stories about him at the Royal Canadian Legion, Empire Lane, Windsor at 2 p.m. Monday, May 11. Arrangements for cremation have been entrusted to Lohnes - DeMont Funeral Service Ltd., 419 Albert St., Windsor (902-798-8317). Donations in memory of Brendan may be made to the Poppy Fund, Royal Canadian Legion.

Joann I. SPENCER
1930-2009

SPENCER, Joann Isabel - 78, Hantsport, passed away peacefully at home on Saturday, May 23, 2009. Born on June 25, 1930, she was the daughter of the late Arthur and Daisy (Allen) Coffill. She was one of Jehovah’s Witnesses associated with the Grand Pre congregation. She is survived by five children, Karen Stevens, Victor (Gladys) Spencer, Jane (Bernie) Benedict, Lois (David) Church and Peter Spencer. Also surviving are brothers, Malcolm (Lois) Coffill, Cogmagun and Gerald (Marilyn) Coffill, Ontario. She is also survived by 27 grandchildren and 23 great-grandchildren. Joann was predeceased by her husband, Roland Dexter Spencer, one grandchild; two sisters and two brothers. Arrangements for cremation have been entrusted to Lohnes - DeMont Funeral Service Ltd., 419 Albert St., Windsor (902-798-8317). There will be no visitation by request. Memorial service will be held 3 p.m. Saturday, May 30, in Kingdom Hall of Jehovah’s Witnesses, 7027 Hwy 14, Sweets Corner. Family flowers only. Frank E. HENNIGAR
1945-2009

HENNIGAR, Frank E. - 63, died suddenly at his home in Ardoise, on Thursday, May 28, 2009. He is survived by wife, Janet and son, Michael (Charlotte); sister, Tona Amiro (Jerry, Fae, Claire), and brother, Harcus (Susan and Colin). He will be missed by brother-in-law, John Charlton (Karen and Meaghan); sister-in-law, Anne Charlton (Derek Flynn). He leaves behind special friends, Marian and Sean Crosby, Carol and Jim Macaulay. He is predeceased by his parents, Maurice and Anna. Though he only had one son he was a towering father figure and friend to many. He met everyone with a smile, always choosing to see the good in people. He talked to anyone, always fascinated in their stories and with a genuine interest in their views. To those closest he was a rock, never wavering when called upon, often sacrificing much so others wouldn't suffer. For those he has left behind the hardest part is saying goodbye and contemplating a life without him. He gave much love and was loved dearly in return. He died on the farm that he built for his horse-crazy bride. He took pride in helping her to achieve their dream of creating a strong Nova Scotian line of Morgan Horses. His legacy lives on in all of the 32 foals born at Columar. A memorial service will be held Monday, June 1, in Chocolate Lake Hotel Ballroom, 20 St. Margaret's Bay Rd., Halifax. Service begins at 10:30 a.m., reception to follow. In lieu of flowers, please make charitable donations to The Canadian Morgan Horse Foundation.

1933-2009

CROCKER (Reid), Jean Lorraine - 76, Falmouth, Hants Co., passed away Wednesday, June 3, 2009, in Hants Community Hospital, Windsor, after a courageous battle with cancer and with her loving and caring family by her side. She was a daughter of the late Frank and Lillian (Lyman) Reid of Melanson, Kings Co.

Jean was proud to be one of the founding members of the Windsor Fire Department Auxiliary and also was a member of Windsor United Church. In her spare time she enjoyed gardening and tending to her rose bushes as well as reading, knitting, playing with her grandchildren and spending time with her family.

She will be sadly missed by her husband of 52 years, Frederick "Ted" Crocker; daughters, Lori Crocker, New Glasgow and Robin (Mark) Paish, Kentville; sons, Reid Crocker, Rothesay, N.B. and Michael (Jung-Yoon "Jennifer" Ryu-Crocker) Crocker, Windsor; beloved granddaughters, Megan and Holly Paish, Kentville and cherished grandson, Adam Crocker, Windsor; sisters, Faye Keith (Eddie Hancock), New Minas; Myrna (Albert) Arklie, St. John's, N.L.; brother, Cecil Reid (Lorraine Pinch), West Brooklyn; sisters-in-law, Mary Ann Reid, Melanson; Doris Coldwell, Wolfville Ridge; Betty (Jack) Crocker, Falmouth; Glenna Kinsman, Welsford, Kings Co.; and many nieces and nephews. Besides her parents, Jean was predeceased by her brother, Ronald Reid and sister, Frances Coldwell.

Arrangements have been entrusted to Lohnes - DeMont Funeral Service Ltd., 419 Albert St., Windsor (902-798-8317), where the family will receive visitors 2-4 and 7-9 p.m. Friday, June 5. Funeral service will be held 2 p.m. Saturday, June 6 in Windsor United Church, 613 King St., Windsor, with Rev. Bill Gibson officiating. Interment will take place in Centre Falmouth Cemetery, Town Road, Falmouth. A reception will follow in the Windsor United Church Annex. CLEYLE, Martha Mary— 93, Windsor, Hants Co., passed away Wednesday, June 3, 2009, in Hants Community Hospital, Windsor. Born in Sydney, NS, she was the daughter of the late Joseph and Mary (Yapur) Hashem. Martha along with her late husband, Victor, owned and operated V.V. Cleyle Ltd. store in Windsor for 38 years. She was a member of the I.O.D.E., CWL, Hants Community Hospital Auxiliary and St. John the Evangelist Roman Catholic Church, Windsor. Martha is survived by sisters, Sarah Corriveau, Sydney, NS; Adele Hashem, Windsor and many nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by her husband, Victor V. Cleyle; sisters, Bessie Hashem, Pearl Hashem and Helen Halbouty; brothers, George and Peter Hashem. Arrangements for cremation have been entrusted to Lohnes - DeMont Funeral Service Ltd., 419 Albert St., Windsor (902-798-8317), where the family will receive visitors from 7-9 p.m. Friday, June 5. David N. FRANK
1946-2009

FRANK, David Neil - 62, Windsor, N.S., passed away peacefully, Friday July 3, in the Halifax Infirmary, Halifax, N.S., surrounded by family and friends.

David was a loving father and grandfather. He will be deeply missed by all those who knew him. David spent his entire life working the land on the family farm. During the later part of his life he worked as a school bus driver for the Annapolis Valley Regional School Board. He enjoyed being part of a fleet of top notch drivers and was very proud of his job. In his spare time, David enjoyed tinkering in his shop and spending time with his grandchildren. He especially enjoyed taking his granddaughter Kailyn to Tim’s for donuts and juice.

Born in Windsor, David was the son of the late Wilfrid and Ernestine (Crosby) Frank of Windsor. He is survived by daughter, Kimberley Dawn Frank (Troy Burgess); son, Jason David (Sarah) Frank, all of Falmouth; granddaughters, Kailyn Josephine, Ontario and Amelia Claire Curry, Falmouth; grandson, Maxwell Justin “Baby Max”, Falmouth; brothers, Lawrence (Susan) Frank, Toronto; Eric (Marg) Frank, Avonport and Blye (James Oulton) Frank, Halifax; sister Nancy (Ron) Richards, Ottawa; and many nieces and nephews.

DAVIS, Helen Myrtle - 88, Wentworth, Hants Co., passed away Wednesday, July 15, 2009, in Dykeland Lodge, Windsor, where she had been a resident over the last 10 years. Born in Wentworth, Hants Co., she was a daughter of the late Robert "Bob" and Ethel (Smith) Young.

Helen is survived by her son, Harley (Betty), Garlands Crossing; grandchildren, Blair and Heather; great-grandchildren, Brett and Shelby. She was predeceased by her husband, Frank Irving Davis; brothers, William and Murray; sisters, Winnifred Leighton, Kathleen Pearl "Peg" Phillips, Vivian "Jackie" Ross and Lola Hunter. The family wishes to extend a special thank you to all the staff of Dykeland Lodge for their wonderful care that they gave Helen.

VINCENT, Amy Modena - 80, Windsor, Hants Co., passed away peacefully Monday, July 20, 2009, in Windsor Elms Village, Windsor. Amy was a daughter of the late Norman and Vera (Dauphinee) Parker.

She was a homemaker most of her life and she loved to be in the kitchen cooking and baking. Amy also enjoyed dogs and listening to music.

She will be sadly missed by her daughter, Jayne (Cal) Boudreau, Hammonds Plains; sisters, Melda (Earle) Lunn, Moncton, N.B.; Gwen (Bev) Milner, Falmouth; brothers, Kenneth (Dorothy), Falmouth; Harley (Marilyn), Greenwood; Karl (Isabel), Penticton, B.C.; sister-in-law, Louise Parker, Falmouth. Besides her parents, Amy was predeceased by her brother, Ernest; sisters-in-law, Marion and Faye.
