Donnie Cooke
1958-2012

It is with great sadness that we must announce the sudden passing of Donnie Cooke, age 53, of Amherst. Donnie passed away in the early morning of Thursday, August 30, 2012 at the Moncton City Hospital. Donnie's passing was peaceful, having spent Wednesday evening surrounded by his brothers, sisters and children and a few friends.

Born in Amherst, he was a son of the late Donald and Katherine (Halfkenny) Cooke.

Donnie loved life; he loved telling and listening to a good story. Donnie was very active in his community and was a recipient of the "Unsung Hero Award". A truly giving man, he would do anything for anyone. He spent his entire life in the trucking industry as owner operator of everything from limos to garbage trucks, and most recently his towing business. His leisure hours were spent fishing and spending quality time with his children who were often seen in the back of the tow truck. In his younger years he used to build and race cars across the Maritimes.

He will be dearly missed by his children; David Collins, Amherst, Kaden, Makayla and Jaxson Cooke, Amherst; grandson Brandon; siblings, David (Carolyn), Amherst, Margaret B. Fox, Springfield, MI, Elizabeth Cooke-Sumbu, Amherst, Darlene Strong, Brookdale, Michael (Jeanne), Vancouver Island, BC, Edwin, Amherst; several aunts, uncles, nieces, nephews and special friends.

Funeral arrangements have been entrusted to the Furlong~Jones Funeral Home, 70 Church St., Amherst (902-667-8777) where visiting will take place on Sunday from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 pm. The funeral service will take place at the funeral home on Monday, September 3, 2012 at 2 pm, Rev. Jeff Goodwin officiating, assisted by Rev. Christine Slaughter. Burial will follow in the Amherst Cemetery.

Those wishing to make a donation in Donnie's memory may do so to the "Trust Fund for the Kids of Donnie Cooke".

James "Bubby" Wilson
1941-2012

It is with deep sadness that we must announce the passing of James "Bubby" H. Wilson, age 71, of Amherst, formerly of River Hebert. Bubby passed away surrounded by his loving family after a lengthy battle with Cancer at the Moncton Hospital on Monday, December 10, 2012.

Born in River Hebert, he was a son of the late James and Olla (O'Brien) Wilson.

Bubby worked as a coal miner in River Hebert and at the River Hebert Legion. In later years he was employed with Oxford Frozen Foods. He was a quiet man who loved caring for and spending time with his family. He enjoyed reading and watching the old television programs.

He will be sadly missed by his long time companion Judy Jollymore, River Hebert; children Jim (Paula), Springhill, Shelly (Leon) Brown, River Hebert, Michael, Amherst, and Rod (Robyn), Amherst; grandchildren Michael, Jessica and Maci; siblings Nora (Victor) Downey, River Hebert, Butch (Carolyn), River Hebert, and Lisa Ellsworth, River Hebert; several nieces and nephews.

He was predeceased by his wife of 33 years Carolyn Linkletter.

Arrangements have been entrusted to the Furlong~Jones Funeral Home, 70 Church St., Amherst, NS (902-667-8777) where visiting hours will take place on Thursday from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 pm. The funeral service will take place on Friday, December 14, 2012 at 2 pm, Rev. Clarence Clarke officiating. Burial will take place in the Hillside Cemetery, River Hebert at a later date.

Edith P. Jones
1918-2012

Edith Pearl (Allen) Jones, age 94, of Amherst entered into the presence of her Lord and Saviour Jesus Christ on November 4, 2012.

Daughter of Eli and Pearl (Whelpley) Allen, Edith was born January 14, 1918 in North Head, Grand Manan, NB. In 1942, she married Donald Jones and they celebrated their 70th anniversary this year.

Edith was a graduate of St. Charles Commercial School in Amherst. She worked at Pridham's Studio and at the aircraft division of Canadian Car and Foundry, before starting a family.

To family and friends, she was known for her hospitality, excellent cooking and many acts of service. She truly lived to serve others.

Edith had many homemaking skills, including sewing, knitting and various other projects. Each summer she harvested many fruits and vegetables, which she sold locally as well as preserved for her family. Her larder was always full of amazing food that could be prepared at a moment's notice.

Through the years, she provided loving, short-term and long-term home care for friends and relatives.

She was a devout follower of her Lord Jesus Christ.

Edith will be mourned by her husband Donald; her daughter Ruth (John) Wakeman of Zephyrhills Florida; and son Phillip (Bev) Jones of Amherst; as well as six grandchildren and ten great-grandchildren. Two special "daughters" she leaves behind are Carol Marshall and Elaine Mattinson, both of Amherst.

Arrangements have been entrusted to Furlong~Jones Funeral Home, 70 Church St., Amherst, NS (902-667-8777) where visiting hours will take place on Friday from 6 to 8 pm. The funeral will take place from Furlong~Jones Funeral Home's Chapel on Saturday, November 10, 2012 at 2 pm, Pastor TImothy Murray officiating. Burial will follow in the Amherst Cemetery.

Mary Ellen Murray
1924-2012

It is with deep sadness that we must announce the passing of Mary Ellen Murray, age 88, of River Hebert, NS. Mary passed away peacefully at the Colchester Regional Hospital, Truro, on Sunday, November 11, 2012.

Born in Minto, she was a daughter of the late Charles and Queenie (Bannister) Waterall.

Mary loved her family, spending time with her children and grandchildren. She enjoyed watching her soap operas and catching up with friends on her computer. Much time was spent in her flower garden and taking long drives through the game sanctuary. Her dog Sookie and cats Cookie and Muffin brought her much joy. A great outdoors woman she enjoyed fishing and camping. She retired from Northern Telecom after over 16 years of service.

She will be dearly missed by her husband, Donald Vance, River Hebert; daughter, Karen Cameron,Amherst; sons, David Jonah, Minto, NB, Gary (Marilyn) Jonah, Chignecto, NS, Charles (Peggy) Murray & Merrill (Andrea) Murray both of Amherst, Marven Murray of Springhill; 18 grandchildren, 12 great grandchildren; sisters Geraldine Doherty (Ray), Minto, NB, Joy McKeigan, Amherst; brothers, Gerry (Lena) Waterall of Scarborough, ON, John Busch of Saint John, NB; sister-in-law Florence Waterall, Grand Bay, NB.

Besides her parents she was predeceased by her first husband, Merrill Murray Sr., infant daughter Elizabeth; sister Frances Blizzard; brother Charles Waterall Jr.

Arrangements have been entrusted to the Furlong~Jones Funeral Home, River Hebert and Amherst, NS (902-667-8777). Visiting hours will take place at the River Hebert Funeral Home on Wednesday, November 14, 2012 from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 pm. The funeral service will be held from the Furlong~Jones Chapel in Amherst on Thursday at 2 pm. Burial will take place in the River Hebert Cemetery. Those wishing to make a donation in Mary's memory may do so to the Heart and Stroke Foundation, the NS Lung Association or the charity of your choice.

Christella M. "Chris" Newcombe
1935-2012

The death of Christella M. "Chris" Newcombe, age 77, of Amherst, occurred at the Cumberland Regional Health Care Centre on Monday, November 12, 2012.

Born in Tidnish, NS, she was a daughter of the late Lloyd and Dorothy (Lowther) Sprague.

Chris was the Past President of the Ladies Auxiliary of the R.C.A.F. #105 Cumberland Wing. She loved all animals big and small and took in any and all strays. She was an avid reader. She will be dearly missed by her family and many friends.

She is survived by daughters Patricia Yates, Amherst, NS; step-daughters, Natalie Newcombe, LaVale, PQ, Tanja MacDonald (Keith), Amherst, NS; step-sons George "Rickey", Hamilton, ON, Terry (Dianne), Ottawa; Sean, Amherst, NS; Tony, Burlington, ON, Laurie, Ottawa; sisters Ella Raaphorst (John), Bowmanville, ON, Evelyn Strong (Tom), Orillia, ON; step-sisters, Bonnie Hachey (Raymond), Scoudouc, NB; Gail Chapman (Jim), Baie Verte, NB. Several step-grandchildren and step great grandchildren.

She was predeceased by her husband George and sister Ruby Sprague.

Arrangements have been entrusted to the Furlong~Jones Funeral Home, 70 Church St., Amherst (902-667-8777). In keeping with Chris's wishes there will be no visitation or funeral. A graveside service will be held in the summer for her and her husband George in the Amherst Cemetery.

Judith Morley
1918-2012

With much sadness, the family of Judith Morley, age 94, of Amherst announce her peaceful passing at the Cumberland Regional Health Care Centre on Thursday, November 15, 2012.

Born in Bournemouth, England she was a daughter of the late Cyril and Jessie (Ottaway) Chaundy.

During the war years, Judith served in the Women's Land Army in England, where she met and married John Morley, a Canadian Soldier. Becoming a war bride she emigrated to Canada in 1945, starting her life in Glace Bay. She later lived in Amherst, Charlottetown and Halifax, where she spent 14 years as Secretary to the Dean of Dentistry at Dalhousie University. Retiring to Amherst she became an active member of the Lord Amherst Chapter of the IODE, and a member of the Holy Family Parish, where she was active in the CWL and St. Vincent de Paul Society.

Judith will be sadly missed by her daughter, Carole (Michael) Ridding, Santa Barbara, California and a son, Anthony (Fran) Morley, Amherst, NS; 5 grandchildren, Jacob and Sarah Morley, Rebecca, Allison and Phillip Morley; 2 great grandchildren, Anna and Sophia Felesky; a brother, Paul Chaundy, Cardiff, Wales;daughter-in-law, Michelle.

She was predeceased by her husband John in 1989 and a son James.

Judith's remains have been entrusted into the care of the Furlong Jones Funeral Home, Amherst from where a time of visitation will be held Sunday from 7 to 9 pm. Parish prayers to be read at 8:30. Funeral mass will be celebrated from Holy Family Parish, Monday, November 19, 2012 at 10 am. Burial in the Parish Cemetery.

Donations to the St. Vincent de Paul Society or a charity of the donor's choice gratefully accepted.

Cecilia S. Hickey

Cecilia S. Hickey, age 90, of Charlottetown, formerly of Amherst, passed away at Whisperwood Villa, Charlottetown on Tuesday, November 13, 2012.

Sister of Marguerite MacKenzie and sister-in law of Helen Hickey.

Her remains have been forwarded from Belvedere Funeral Home to the Furlong-Jones Funeral Home, 70 Church St., Amherst (902-667-8777) for visitation Sunday, 7-9 p.m. Funeral Mass Monday at the Holy Family Parish Church at 2:00 p.m, Father Vernon Driscoll officiating. Interment in St. Charles-Nativity Cemetery, Amherst, N.S.

Veronica Vincent Gould
1929-2012

It is with deep sadness that we must announce the passing of Veronica Vincent Gould, age 83, of Amherst. Veronica passed away at the All Saints Hospital, Springhill on Monday, November 26, 2012.

Born in Maccan, NS, she was a daughter of the late Thomas and Ethel (Whalen) Gould.

Veronica moved to Amherst at a youthful age where she attended St. Charles School. Veronica was active in sports, playing basketball and was a member of the Stella Maris ladies softball team. An avid horse race fan she attended and often played the horses. It should also be known that Veronica was involved with the St. Charles choir; she had a beautiful singing voice. In later years she curled at the Amherst Curling Club. Veronica had a love for music, dancing, and being around children. She worked at the Fort Cumberland Hotel Gift Shop and for the Marathon Watch Company in Montreal. Veronica spent time in Kingston, ON with her cousin, Kathleen McCormick and family. While in Kingston she was very involved at St. Mary's parish with social events and other activities. She looked forward to the 5 cousins annual trip to PEI.

In later years she made her home with her sister, Regina Andrews.

In addition to her parents, Veronica was predeceased by a nephew, Lee Gould and a very special 2nd cousin, Stephen McCormick.

Veronica is survived by a brother, Curry Gould (Nellie), three nieces, a sister Regina Andres, Amherst.

Arrangments have been entrusted to the Furlong~Jones Funeral Home, 70 Church St., Amherst, (902-667-8777) where visitation will take place with parish prayers recited on Tuesday from 7 to 9 pm. Funeral mass to celebrate Veronica's life will be on Wednesday, November 28, 2012 at 11 am, with Father Vernon Driscoll presiding. Reception will follow at Holy Family Parish hall. Burial will take place at St. Charles - Nativity Cemetery

Donations may be made to the Palliative Care at All Saints Hospital, Springhill or a Charity of the donor's choice.

Vanda Brundage
1963-2012

It is with deep sadness that we must announce the sudden passing of Vanda Brundage, age 48, one day short of her 49th birthday. Vanda passed away at her home in Fenwick surrounded by her loving family on Wednesday, November 28, 2012.

Born in Amherst, she was a daughter of Patricia (Legere) Brundage and the late Arthur Brundage.

Vanda was always positive, no matter what life threw her way. She loved country music, gardening, tole painting and poetry. She worked at GFS. No matter what she was always there for her family. She always knew what to say and gave the best advice. She loved her log home in Fenwick; her little piece of heaven on earth.

In addition to her mother Patricia, she will be dearly missed by her soul mate Carl Elliott, Fenwick; daughter Vanessa Ross (Robert Dwyer), Amherst; son Timothy Ross (Jessica Beal), Fenwick; her grandson Reese whom she adored and two step-grandchildren Cassidy and Parker Dwyer; sisters Susan (Richard) Wells, Point de Bute, NB, Darlene Brundage (Wayne MacDonald), Springhill, Cindy (Jamie) Mitton, Colpitt Settlement, NB, Wendy Brundage (Wade Brine), River Hebert, Carla Brundage (Harold Embree), Springhill; as well as several nieces and nephews with whom she shared a special relationship.

She was predeceased by her father Arthur and brother Kevin.

Arrangements have been entrusted to the Furlong~Jones Funeral Home, 70 Church St., Amherst where the funeral service and reception will take place on Saturday, December 1, 2012 at 2 pm, Archdeacon Glenn Easson officiating. Burial will take place in the Fenwick Cemetery.

Bruce Ferguson
1949-2012

It is with deep sadness that we must announce the sudden passing of Bruce Edward Ferguson, age 63, of Amherst on Monday, December 3, 2012.

Born in Amherst, NS, he was a son of the late Doris (LeBlanc) Ferguson and Seymour Ferguson.

Bruce loved to be active. He was past President and current Vice President of the USWA 4883 Union. He loved to bowl, play darts, golf, slow pitch, and any sport going. He was a Fourth Degree Member of the Knights of Columbus. He was involved with the Ramblers and was former president of the Amherst Air Force Club.

In addition to his father Seymour, he will be dearly missed by his wife Carolyn (LeBlanc), Amherst; sons Michael (Carolyn) and Darryl (Tracy), both of Amherst; brothers, Wayne (Marilyn) Corney and Brian (Diane Mills) Ferguson, both of Amherst.

He was predeceased by his mother and twin infant daughters.

Funeral arrangements have been entrusted to the Furlong~Jones Funeral Home, 70 Church St., Amherst, NS (902-667-8777) where visitation will take place on Wednesday from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 pm. Parish Prayers will be held Wednesday evening at 8 pm. Funeral Mass will be celebrated at the Holy Family Parish Church on Thursday, December 6, 2012 at 10 am, Father Vernon Driscoll officiating. Burial will follow in the St. Charles-Nativity Cemetery.
