Ted was born June 5, 1940, to Dona and (the late) Charles E Chapman Sr., in Port Elgin, N.B. Ted joined the RCAF in 1958 and married his teen sweetheart, Joan Mary ( Morrison) in 1959. He served in Chatham, N.B., Trenton, Ont., Baden-Soellingen, Germany and Ottawa, Ont. While in Germany he deployed to Ismailia Egypt under the United Nations Blue Beret. After completing 29 years of service, Ted accepted a position with the National Research Council's Institute for Aerospace Research. During his 15 years at NRC, Ted conducted research in NDT of complex composite materials in support of many important Air Force Programmes. Ted's NDT expertise was instrumental in enabling the flight qualification of the "CanadArm Manipulator" now in use on the International Space Station. His dedication, intelligence, and expertise earned him several prestigious awards at NRC. His passion for things that fly was only exceeded by his lifelong love for the game of golf. Ted took advantage of every opportunity to play many famous courses around the world and always found time for nine or 18 holes. He finally achieved the ultimate, and scored a "Hole-in-One," at the Sackville Golf Club in the summer of 1992. During his long battle with cancer, Ted bravely volunteered for several drug and treatment trials, and by doing so, helped to advanced research into finding a cure for prostate cancer. Ted is survived by his Mother, Dona; his loving wife, Joan; his son, Mark; daughter, Kim; daughter-in-law, Sharyn, and siblings, Harry, Carol; brother-in-law, Lionel, Lynn; brother-in-law, Everett, Faye, and Holly, as well as his grandchildren, Christine, Rachelle, Andrew, and Ian, and his great-granddaughter, Kenya. Interment of the remains will take place with the family on a later date in Port Elgin N.B. In lieu of flowers, please make donations to the Prostate Cancer Research Foundation of Canada, or by participating in the Father's Day Run for Prostate Cancer Research. A special thanks to the doctors and staff of the Cancer Care and Palliative Care units of the VG Site, QEII, and all others who were involved for their empathy and care in the final days.
