Dennis Edmund Slaunwhite

SLAUNWHITE, Dennis Edmund - 83, Terence Bay, passed away Monday, December 15, 2003, at home. Born October 26, 1920, in Halifax, he was a son of the late Albert Dennis and Ethel Slaunwhite.

Dennis was a fisherman in his early years and then later he became a carpenter.

Surviving are his wife, the former Constance Evelynn Jollimore; daughters, Sandra (Phil LeBlanc), Halifax; Sheila (Stan Mellish), Abbotsford, B.C.; Kathy (Robert Slaunwhite), Terence Bay; Cindy (Danny Slaunwhite), Terence Bay; Lynn (Marcel Dechamp) Slaunwhite, Terence Bay; sons, Dennis (Wanda), Stewiacke; Bruce (Sherry), Terence Bay; Keith, Terence Bay; Todd, Terence Bay; 16 grandchildren; one great-grandchild; sisters, Madonna Strum, Dartmouth; Anne Backewich, Sackville; several nieces and nephews.

Dennis was predeceased by sisters, Anastasia Little, Virginia White, Rita Slaunwhite; brothers, Austin, George and Leo.

Cremation has taken place. Visitation will be held 2-4, 7-9 p.m. Thursday, December 18, in Atlantic Funeral Home, Halifax. Memorial service will be 10 a.m. Friday, December 19, in St. Paul's Anglican Church, Terence Bay, Rev. Lisa Vaughn officiating. Interment will be in St. Paul's Cemetery, Terence Bay. Reception to follow at his daughter Kathy's home, 1231 Terence Bay Rd.

Family flowers only. Donations can be made to Canadian Cancer Society.

Pansy Warren

WARREN, Pansy - 80, Oakwood Terrace, Dartmouth, passed away peacefully Monday, December 15, 2003, in Dartmouth General Hospital.

Born in Pleasant Grove, P.E.I., she is survived by her beloved husband, Mellick "Mel"; daughter, Lynne Ann (Mike) Lester, Musquodoboit Harbour; brother, Lloyd (Nina) Clow, Prince Edward Island; grandchildren, Colin (Sarah) Lester, Jeddore; Sean (Kelli) Lester, Dartmouth; great-grandson, David Lester, Jeddore; many nieces and nephews.

She was predeceased by brothers, Brenton and Arthur Clow.

Cremation has taken place under the care and direction of Atlantic Funeral Home, 771 Main St., Dartmouth. Memorial service will be held 2 p.m. Saturday in Stevens Road Baptist Church, Dartmouth, Rev. Robert Nickerson officiating. Reception to follow in the church hall.

James Slattery Steele

STEELE, James Slattery - Dartmouth. Born January 10, 1932, in Sherbrooke, Que., Jim died peacefully Monday, December 15, 2003, in Dartmouth General Hospital with his family at his side.

Loving husband of Lise (Wilhelmy); proud father of Christine, Norman (Michelle) and Genevi=E8ve; dearly loved by his grandchildren, Vincent and Marie; brother to Margaret, Michael, Catherine and Christopher.

He was predeceased by brothers, David, Stephen.

A proud graduate of St. F.X. University (BComm '54), Jim enjoyed a successful, lifelong career in sales. He also was an active and dedicated member of the Francophone
Community and Mission La Sainte-Famille. A long-time member of Ashburn Golf Club, Jim was a passionate golfer and, in winter, our avid skier could be found blazing the trails at Ski Wentworth. Look for him in the powder!

Cremation has taken place under the care and direction of Atlantic Funeral Home, 771 Main St., Dartmouth with visitation 2-4, 7-9 p.m. Thursday. Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated 11 a.m. Friday in Saint Thomas More Roman Catholic Church, corner of Main Street and Caledonia Road, Dartmouth, Father Gerald Caron and Father Louis Caissie con-celebrating. Reception to follow in the church hall. A memorial service will be held in Quebec at a later date.

Richard Brian "Dick" Wilwand

WILWAND, Richard Brian "Dick" - 61, Eastern Passage, passed away peacefully on December 12, 2003, in Aberdeen Hospital, New Glasgow, with his family by his side. Born in Winnipeg, he was a son of the late Harold and Margaret (Balharry) Wilwand.

Dick was retired from the Canadian Armed Forces.

He is survived by his wife, the former Bonnie Elaine Hartlen; daughter, Elaine, New Glasgow; son, Raymond (Anita), Chester; grandchildren, Kristen, Kimberly, and Rachel; brothers, Wayne (Lea) and George, both of Winnipeg; sisters, Donna (Allan) Morley, Penny and Sandra, all of Winnipeg; nieces and nephews.

Visitation will be 10-11 a.m. and memorial service will be 11 a.m. Thursday, December 18, both in Atlantic Funeral Home, 771 Main St., Dartmouth, Rev. Mark Kingsbury officiating. Burial will be in Dartmouth Memorial Gardens.

In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Canadian Cancer Society or The Children's Wish Foundation of Canada.

Marion Ann Miller

MILLER, Marion Ann - 77, Lower Sackville, died December 14, 2003, in the VG Site, QEII. Born in Halifax, she was a daughter of the late Alexander and Gertrude (Nagle) Stewart.

Marion lived for the past three years at the Transitional Care Unit, she considered them part of her family. She enjoyed crafts and handiwork. Marion was a loving mother and grandmother. She was the last surviving member of her immediate family.

A special thank you to John and Joyce Lohness, Dr. Wood and all nursing staff, volunteers and activity workers, Beth and Colleen.

Surviving are daughters, Sharon, Halifax; Lorraine (Marvin), Winnipeg, Man.; sons, Lionel (Shirley) and Doug, Halifax; Jim (Cathy), Dartmouth; Arlen (Marion), Seabright; Bob (Anna), Winnipeg, Man.; grandchildren, Stephen, Jo-Anne, Christopher, Connie, Kelly, Jimmy, Angie, Allen, David, Rose, Marvin, Craig, Lisa, Ashley, Bobby; step-grandchildren, Paul and Calvin; eight great-grandchildren; many nieces and nephews.

She was predeceased by husband, Howard "Ike"; sister, Helen; brothers, Charles, Harry and Donald.

Visitation 2-4, 7-9 p.m. today and Wednesday in Atlantic Funeral Home, 125 Sackville Dr., where funeral service will be 11 a.m. Thursday. Burial in Gate of Heaven Cemetery. Reception to follow in the funeral home.

Oscar Michael Manfred Martens

MARTENS, Oscar Michael Manfred - Age 38. It is with deep sadness we announce the peaceful passing of Oscar Martens on December 11, 2003, at home.

Oscar was a loving husband to Tammy Corkum and caring father to Thomas, both of Dartmouth. He will be truly missed by his parents, Churchill and Barbara Martens; sister, Faye and family; his many friends and relatives in Zimbabwe.

Oscar was employed with SAS Restaurants as Director of Operations and though always busy, managed to find time to contribute to the Meals On Wheels program, an activity he did with great pride and enjoyment.

A memorial service will be held 1 p.m. Saturday, December 20, in Our Lady of Perpetual Help Roman Catholic Church, Bedford Highway, Father B. O'Neil officiating. This will be followed by a Celebration of Life at Oscar's father-in-law's home, 44 Bayview Rd., Halifax.

In lieu of flowers, donation in memory may be made to the IWK Health Centre or Oscar Marten Memorial Athletic Bursary Fund at the office of External Relations, Dalhousie University.

Special thanks to all friends and family who were so supportive and helpful during his illness. Also a special thank you to the doctors and nurses who supported Oscar and Tammy during his illness.
