At Southampton Care Center, on Sunday, August 2, 2009, at the age of 87 years, Sylvester Burkhart, formerly of Port Elgin. Husband of the late Theresa and his second wife Areata Wardrop. Father of Betty Puddester and Brian Saunders of Kitchener, Donna and her husband Ralph Coombs of Brantford, Kathy and her husband Don Vanderlip of Drumbo, Jim Burkhart of Burnaby, B.C., Mike and his wife Gail of Kitchener, Lee and his wife Donna of Paris, John and his wife Janet of Williamston, Michigan, and Sheila and her husband Kevin Misurak of Salmo, B.C. Grandfather of 13 grandchildren and 11 great-grandchildren. Also survived by Wayne and Vi Wardrop, Elmer and Bev Wardrop, Harold Wardrop, and Steve and Gail Wardrop. Brother of Ibrey Burkhart of Kitchener, Ivan Burkhart of Elmira, Ozias Burkhart and his wife Alice of Drayton, and his sister Nancy and her husband Mel Bolton of Enderby, B.C. Predeceased by his parents, Peter and Rebecca Burkhart; his grandson, Thomas Misurak; and his brothers, Alan and Owen Burkhart. Friends may call at the W. Kent Milroy Port Elgin Chapel, 510 Mill St., Port Elgin (Town of Saugeen Shores) on Thursday, August 6, 2009 from 1 p.m. until 2 p.m., when a funeral service will be conducted in the chapel at 2 p.m. with the Rev. Margaret Greenhow officiating. Interment Southampton cemetery. Memorial contributions to the Heart and Stroke Foundation of Ontario or the Canadian Cancer Society would be appreciated as expressions of sympathy.

1979-2002

LICHODYJEWSKI, Edward John

Born in Birmingham, England, April 17, 1951. passed away peacefully at Freeport Hospital on August 7, 2009 at the age of 58. Eddie battled cancer for almost a year and is now free from pain. He was predeceased by his parents, Lucy (2006) and Henry Lichodyjewski (1991). He is survived by his daughter, Lisa Meneses and her husband Jorge, and his two grandchildren, Noah and Emma. He is also survived by his sister, Teresa Zinger, her husband Kevin Harnock, their children Tina (Darryl), Lori (Ian), Steve, Rod (Steph), Ricky (Lindsay), and their children Sadie, Lexi and Neve. He was also a brother to Michelle Gutoskie, her husband Gary and their two children Skylar and Dallas. His cousins, Wally, Rich, Donna, Ted, Bobby, Hank (deceased), and their families had a special place in his heart. Eddie was a former employee of Vic Sellner and Len Koebel Hardwood Flooring, and he loved his wood. Eddie's family would like to thank some very special people who helped him one way or another through his ordeal: Ron Carey for his care and concern; Gitty Krynicki for the comfortable ride to St. Joseph's Healthcare in Hamilton; his doctors at Grand River Regional; Mike Taylor at Bayshore Health Care; the nurses at Cambridge Memorial, especially Sue; and everyone at Freeport Hospital, where the care was excellent. To all the cancer volunteers, our sincerest thanks. Thank you to all his new friends at Puslinch Trailer Park - you are a great bunch of people. Eddie has been cremated and will be laid to rest with his mother and father at Woodland cemetery. His family will receive relatives and friends at the Henry Walser Funeral Home, 507 Frederick St., Kitchener, 519-749-8467 from 10-11 a.m. on Monday, August 10, 2009 (today). A memorial service will be held at 11 a.m. led by Rene Alexander, followed by a reception. OTTERBEIN, Barbara Ann (Derbecker)
August 25, 1933 - August 6, 2009

It was in peace that Barbara passed, in the comfort and familiarity of her own home. Barbara's unquestionable faith and mighty determination carried her through this always-uncertain journey with cancer. A longtime resident of New Hamburg, Barb was a member of Trinity Lutheran Church. Barb enjoyed all aspects of God's creation. She loved the land, wildlife, gardening, flowers, and cottage life at Macey Bay, Honey Harbour. Barb was an award-winning photographer, an avid reader, a compassionate and gentle woman who saw beauty in the simplicity of life. She is sorely missed and dearly loved. Beloved wife of Stan Otterbein, with whom she celebrated 55 years of marriage on June 23, 2009. Loving mother of Brad and Claire Otterbein, Karen and Rick Haffner, all of New Hamburg, and Doug and Elaine Otterbein of Enniskillen. Sadly missed by grandchildren, Mike and Lori, Nathan, Meghann and friend Kyle, Adam, Devon and Misty, Lucas, Sophia, Brett, Eden and Georden, and great-grandson, Trent. Dear sister of Linda Potter (Fred) and sister-in-law of Earl (Charlotte) Otterbein, Arthur Otterbein, Edward (Carol) Otterbein, Helen Raymond, Louise Riepert, Lorraine Bolduc and Marie Herter. Barb was predeceased by her parents, Wilson and Olive (Wettlaufer) Derbecker; great-granddaughter, Willow Otterbein; and by sisters-in-law and brothers-in-law, Ann Otterbein, Garfield Raymond, Eldon Riepert, Lincoln Bolduc and Bill Herter. Friends and relatives may call at the Mark Jutzi Funeral Home, 291 Huron St., New Hamburg on Monday from 2-4 and 7-9 p.m. The funeral service will be held on Tuesday, August 11, 2009 at Trinity Lutheran Church at 11 a.m. with Rev. McKEE, Archie Maxwell

Suddenly on Thursday, August 6, 2009 in his 83rd year of Elmira. Beloved husband of Eva (McFarlane) McKee for almost 54 years. Dear father of Dean (Katharine) of Unionville and Rev. Keith (Jan) of London. Very special grandfather to Heather. Brother of John (the late Ruth) and Lillian McDonald and brother-in-law of Alma, Shirley, Lillian and Margaret McKee. Archie is survived by many nieces, nephews and their families. Predeceased by his sister, Doreen (the late Addison) Neill and brothers, James (the late Annie), Russell, Gerald, W.R. "Bud" and David. Archie was a faithful member and elder at Gale Presbyterian Church, a proud member of the Elmira Lions Club for over forty years, a member of the Glenrose Masonic Lodge No. 628 and an avid golfer and member at the Elmira Golf Club. The family will receive their friends and relatives at the Dreisinger Funeral Home, Elmira on Sunday afternoon only from 1-4 p.m. At 9 a.m. on Monday, August 10, 2009, transfer will be made to the Gale Presbyterian Church, Elmira for funeral service at 11 a.m. with The Rev. Dr. Linda J. Bell officiating followed by interment in the Elmira Union cemetery. In his memory, donations to the Lions Foundation of Canada (Seeing Eye Dog Program) would be appreciated by the family as expressions of sympathy. WHITEHEAD, Adam

Adam Robert Whitehead, age 26, of Stratford, passed away suddenly as a result of a motor vehicle accident on Wednesday, August 5, 2009. Adam was born in Stratford, loving son of Carol Mason and Terry Whitehead and his wife Maureen, all of Stratford. Cherished brother of Claire Whitehead (Korey Brown) and Jack Whitehead. Lovingly remembered by his dear grandparents. Also survived by many aunts, uncles, cousins, friends and special friend Ashley Keough and her son Evan. Adam attended Central High School, Stratford and graduated as a Goldsmith from George Brown College. Friends and relatives may call at the W.G. After a short but courageous battle with cancer, Beverley passed away at her home, on Tuesday, August 4, 2009, surrounded by her family. Beloved wife of the late Cormac Slough (2006). Cherished mother of Gary (Marilyn) Slough, Kevin (Susan) Slough, and Pat (Doug) Findlay. Much loved grandma of Jamie, Jessica, Andy, Scott, Kate, Brianna, and Brian. Beverley will be sadly missed by her sister, Win (Don), twin sister, Ruby (Jim); and in-laws, Cy, Bren and Rose and numerous nieces and nephews. Beloved husband of the late Stella (nee Potwarka) who predeceased him in 1996. Loving father of Brian and his wife Pearl, Raymond and his wife Margaret, Jim and his wife Bonnie, Bill and his wife Lillian, Marilyn and her husband Dave Finn and Nancy and her husband Armin Kowitz. Proud grandfather of 14 grandchildren and 13 great-grandchildren. William is predeceased by his parents, Angus and Sadie Owens; his brother, Joseph; his sister, Kathleen Herbin and his granddaughters, Susan Owens and Cindy Newman. Friends called at the Ratz-Bechtel Funeral Home, 621 King St. West, Thursday from 7-9 p.m. and may call today (Friday) from 2-4 and 7-9 p.m. Funeral Mass will be celebrated on Saturday morning at 10 o'clock at St. Teresa's RC Church, 44 Leonard St. with Father David Lewis as celebrant. passed away at KW Health Centre of Grand River Hospital, surrounded by family, on Tuesday, August 4, 2009, at the age of 62. Loving husband of Susan (nee Barnett) for 39 years. Devoted father of Andrew (Sara) and Sara (Peter). Proud grandfather of Noah. Also survived by his sister, Laurel (David) Armstrong; brothers, Robert (Donna) Macdonald and Christopher (Leslie) Macdonald; brother-in-law, Brian (Laurie) Barnett; sister-in-law, Linda (Kevin) Smith; mother-in-law, Isabel Barnett and by many nieces, nephews and their families. Predeceased by his parents, Archena and Lorne Macdonald; and by father-in-law, Fred Barnett. Bruce was employed by the Commissionaires for Home Hardware in St. Jacobs. He was a former Captain in the Highland Fusiliers of Canada. Visitation was held at the Erb & Good Family Funeral Home, 171 King St. S., Waterloo Thursday from 2-4 and 7-9 p.m. The funeral service will take place at Emmanuel United Church, 22 Bridgeport Rd. W., Waterloo on Friday, August 7, 2009 (today) at 2 p.m. with Rev. Bruce Sweet officiating. Reception will follow the service in the Church Hall. Craig was an Environmental Officer and longtime employee of the Waterloo Region District School Board, and was a dedicated volunteer with the K-W Chamber of Commerce.
