Duncan, Jack

DUNCAN, Robert John (Jack)
Peacefully at the Grand River Hospital, Kitchener, on Saturday February 22nd, 2014 at the age of 93 with family by his side. Beloved husband of Jean (Miller) for 67 years. Father of Faye Mayer (Bert) and Dennis (Joan). Grandfather of David Oliver (Kristin), Ryan Oliver, Julie Oliver (Brad Dollard), and Douglas Duncan (Mireille Labrie). Great-grandfather of Brooke-Lyn, Devin, Cassidy, and Davis. Jack was a proud World War II veteran, Royal Canadian Navy serving on corvettes from 1939-1945 and farmed the Duncan family farm, Braeside Burn, in Usborne Township for 68 years. Jack’s great sense of humour, love for card playing and joy for life and family will be missed by all who knew him. A graveside service is planned for spring 2014 at Roy’s cemetery where he will join his parents, family and many friends. Donations to a charity of one’ s choice would be gratefully acknowledged by Jack’s family. Mark Jutzi Funeral Home, New Hamburg assisted with the arrangements.

passed away on Saturday February 22, 2014 at St. Mary’s Hospital, Kitchener. Antonia resided in New Hamburg and was born 78 years ago in Poland.
Beloved wife of Arthur Danner with whom she celebrated 52 years of marriage. Loving mother of Krista Wiebe, Perry & Linda Danner, Frank & Annemeik Danner all of New Hamburg. Sadly missed by her grandchildren Trevor, Darryl, Jordan, Kendra, Quentin, Julia, Robert and Colleen. Dear sister and sister-in-law of Rudy & Rita Kwirant of Guelph, Ernst & Frieda Kwirant of Oshawa, Lucie Piper of Ottawa, Eduard & Belinda Kwirant of Oakville, Theo & Hannelore Kwirant, Christa Richter, Hildegard Roem, Astrid Wedel, Dieter Kwirant, Maria Kwirant all of Germany, Herta Kwirant of Brampton, Raimond & Mary Danner of New Hamburg, Otto Danner & partner Barbara of Kitchener, Erwin & Tosca Danner of Listowel. Antonia was predeceased by her parents Josef & Emma (Wegart) Kwirant, brothers Adolf Kwirant, Kurt Kwirant, brother-in-law Gordon Piper and sisters-in-law Irmgard Kwirant, Inge Kwirant and Hedwig Danner.

Mensch, Reimund

passed away suddenly at his home in New Hamburg on Friday February 21, 2014. He was born 82 years ago in the Ukraine.
Beloved husband of Helga (Kuhnle) Mensch with whom he celebrated 56 years of marriage. Dear father of Hans & Bonnie Mensch of Wellesley, Rosi Kropf & Brant Grozelle of Mannheim, Tom & Tracey Mensch of New Hamburg. Sadly missed by his grandchildren Taylor, Matthew (Katie), Justine and Veronica. Remembered by his brothers Ernst & Anna Mensch of New Hamburg and Otto Mensch of Kitchener. Reimund was predeceased by his parents Otto & Frieda (Kloninger) Mensch, brother Waldemar & Krista Mensch and sister-in-law Alice Mensch.

Priebe, Ruth

passed away peacefully on Thursday February 20, 2014 at Nithview Community, New Hamburg. Ruth resided in New Hamburg and was born 77 years ago in Palmerston, Ontario.
Beloved wife of Roy Priebe with whom she celebrated 60 years of marriage on May 23, 2013. Loving mother of Brian Priebe, Joanne & Ross McDonald all of New Hamburg. Sadly missed by her grandchildren Shaun McDonald & Sandie Mitchell, Stephanie & Jason Albrecht and her great-granddaughters Chloe & Charlotte. Remembered by her brothers and sisters Genevieve Corbett, Harold & Rita Gregory, Emmerson Gregory,brother-in-law Jim Priebe andf a number of nieces and nephews. Ruth was predeceased by her parents William & Cora (Howard) Gregory, brothers and sisters Stan, Thelma, Alma, Lloyd, Beatrice, Violet, Jack, Robert, Eldon and Ross.
Roy and Ruth were members of the Wilmot Rod & Gun Club.

Hoffman, Bette Jean

passed away peacefully on Monday February 10, 2014 at R.R. # 1 Plattsville where she lived for 70 years before moving to Nithview Community, New Hamburg. She was born 91 years ago in Kitchener and was the daughter of the late Joseph & Beatrice (Bricknell) McLean.
Beloved wife of the late Robert Hoffman who predeceased her in 1997. Loving mother of Gary (Lois), David, Mark (Marilyn) and Roberta Hinsperger (Tom). Missed by her grandchildren Sheldon, Kelly, Eric, Theresa, Douglas, Robert (Merlita), Sara, Tyler (Christina), Bobby-Jo, Ryan and great-grandchildren Anne-Marie and Sofia. Remembered by sister Gladys Buck, brother Donald (Ginny) McLean, sisters-in-law Virginia Weiler, Rita Hoffman, brother-in-law Bruce Kress and many nieces and nephews. Bette was predeceased by a daughter-in-law Maria Hoffman, sister Anna (Earl) Stroh, sister-in-law June Kress, brothers-in-law Manfred Reier, Edgar Buck, Roger Weiler, Carl Hoffman and special friend Jim Cressman..
Bette was a member of United Brethren Church, New Dundee and the New Dundee Women’s Institute where she served as treasurer fo a number of years.

Cressman, Eloise

passed away peacefully at her residence Nithview Community, New Hamburg on February 7, 2014. She was born 95 years ago in Wilmot Township and was the daughter of the late Addis & Lizzie May (Erb) Cressman.
Beloved wife of the late Zenas Cressman who predeceased her February 11, 1994. Loving mother and mother-in-law of Jean Swartzentruber of Cambridge, Joyce & Kaye Collard of Kitchener, Glen & Ruth Cressman, Lyle & Karen Cressman all of New Hamburg, Eileen & Willis Freeman of Drayton, Helen Cressman of New Hamburg. Sadly missed by her 17 grandchildren and 18 great-grandchildren. Remembered by her brother and sisters-in-law Willard & Beulah Cressman of New Hamburg and Lois Cressman of Waterloo. Eloise was predeceased by her son Kenneth Cressman, son-in-law Ray Swartzentruber, sisters Mabel Cressman, Erma & Orlan Snyder and brother Harold Cressman.
Eloise was a member of Nith Valley Mennonite Church, New Hamburg and a former member of the WMSC. She had been a member of the Haysville Women’s Institute and Haysville Sunshine Club. She made quilts for the Mennonite Relief Sale and many of her family.

Jackson, Barbara

passed away suddenly on Thursday January 30, 2014 at St. Mary’s Hospital, Kitchener. Barbara resided in Baden and was born 60 years ago in Belfast, Northern Ireland.
Beloved wife of Steve Jackson who she married June 12, 1999. Loving mother of Lynn Cunningham of Guelph, Craig Cunningham of Cambridge and Bryan Dredge of Baden. Sadly missed by her grandchildren Jessica, Emily, Annabelle, Emma, Keiley, Ella, Connor and Braden. Dear sister of Tom & wife Jean Belshaw of Scotland. Remembered by her mother-in-law, father-in-law, brothers-in-law, sisters-in-law, nieces and nephews. Barbara was predeceased by her parents William & Margaret (McPhee) Belshaw and daughter Kelsey.

Facey, Oliver
(June 14, 1925 – February 1, 2014)

Oliver Facey died peacefully at Nithview Community, New Hamburg on February 1, 2014 in his 89th year. He will be reunited with his son Tim (2001), his parents Mervin & Laura (Bean) Facey, his sisters Florence (Fraser) McMillan, Irene (Glen) Schiedel, as well as his father and mother-in-law, Reuben & Mary (Reuber) Bruegeman.
Oliver is survived by his loving wife Norma (Bruegeman) Facey to whom he was married for 63 years, his daughters Laura (Paul) McPhee, Mary Lou (Doug) Legare, his son Dave (Sandy Malecki) Facey, his 9 grandchildren and 4 great-grandchildren Chris (Amie) McPhee & children Leah and Ethan, Jeff (Jamie) McPhee & children Payton and Carter, Breanne, Luke & Katelyn Facey, Sarah & Mitch Facey, Andrew & Joshua Legare. Remembered by a number nieces and nephews.
Oliver was very involved in the United Church including both London Conference and Oxford County Young Peoples. He enjoyed sharing his musical talents singing in various church and community choirs as well as singing duets with his wife Norma. Oliver participated in numerous community organizations including Waterloo County Junior Farmers, Oxford County Holstein Breeders and the Soil and Crop Association. For over 30 years Oliver was a Director with South Easthope Mutual Farmers Insurance Company serving as President for 2 terms. He was a successful farmer who took pride in his herd of Holstein cattle, his machinery, and in working his fields (with the latest model tractor!). Above all Oliver will be remembered for his quick wit, his one-liners, his hearty laugh, and his devotion to his wife and family.

passed away on Tuesday January 28, 2014 at Grand River Hospital, Freeport Health Center, Kitchener. He resided at Nithview Community New Hamburg and was formerly of Baden and Zurich. Harold was born 90 years ago in Croghan, New York and was the son of the late Jacob & Lena (Martin) Widrick.
Beloved husband of the late Edith (Schwartzentruber) Widrick who predeceased him December 15, 2008. Loving father of Lois & husband Richard Shantz of Arizona and Raye Widrick of Zurich. Dear brother and brother-in-law of Earle Widrick, Gladys Moshier, Loretta & husband Aaron Widrick and Simon Gingerich all of New York State. Remembered by many nieces and nephews. Harold was predeceased by sisters, brothers, sisters-in-law and brothers-in-law Ella & husband Victor Lyndaker, Mary & husband Arthur Moser, Elmer & wife Ruth Widrick, Beatrice & husband Ernest Moser, Ezra & wife Elva Widrick, Bernard & wife Ruth Widrick, Jacob Widrick in infancy, Barb & husband Michael Moser, Hilary & wife Pearl Widrick, Katherine & husband Gerald Lyndaker, Irene & husband Ben Yousey, Betty Widrick, Floyd Moshier, Lena Gingerich.
Harold was a member of Steinmann Mennonite Church, Baden. He was a former member of Blake A.M. Church, Zurich where he served as trustee. He enjoyed portering, helping with flowers, painting, maintenance and clean up around Nithview Community.

Good, Martha

passed away peacefully, into the presence of her Lord on her 90th birthday, Sunday January 26, 2014 at her residence Nithview Community, New Hamburg. She was formerly of Cambridge and Kitchener. Martha was the daughter of the late Amos C. & Melinda (Martin) Good.
Dear sister of Nina Gimbel of Cambridge, Pearl Good of Arkansas, Walter & wife Martha Good of R.R. # 1 Gowanstown. Sadly missed by her 6 nieces and 7 nephews. Martha was predeceased by her twin sister Mary in infancy, sister Elma & husband Gladwin Bender, brothers Edward & wife Olive Good, Vernon Good in infancy, brother-in-law Oren Gimbel, 1 niece and 1 nephew.
Martha was a member of Nith Valley Mennonite Church, New Hamburg. She helped many families in the community when they had a child born.

RHEM, Dr. Stuart (Stu) Redford
1927 – 2014

passed away peacefully in his home in New Hamburg, ON at the age of 86 on January 21, 2014. Grateful for 61 years of marriage, his wife, Millie (Mildred Keffer) was the love of his life. Deeply missed by children Sue Rhem, Kathy (Michael) Faragalli, Carol (Robert) Chester, Norm (Nancy) Rhem. Remembered by his sisters Anna (Bill) Kirkland and Marg (Doug) Powell; grandchildren Joe (Lauren) Faragalli, Phillip, Tessa, and Laura Faragalli, Jessica (Michael) O’Donoghue, Bryan (Brittany) Chester; six great grandchildren; sister-in-law Anne Keffer; a number of cousins, nieces and nephews. Cook, Donald

passed away suddenly at the Guelph General Hospital on Thursday, January 16, 2014. Donald was born 75 years ago in North Easthope Township, a son of the late Reuben Cook and former Eva Doering. Beloved husband of Shirley (Wettlaufer) Cook of Amulree, who he married June 20, 1959. Loving father of Debra & husband Rick Lange of Tavistock and grandfather of Lisa & husband Paul Chemerys of Milton and Jeff Lange of Tavistock & friend Erica Heeres of Listowel. Great-Grandfather of Kira, Sophie and Isla. Dear brother of Gerald & wife Shirley Cook of Stratford and brother-in-law of Bob & Judy Wettlaufer of Baden. Also missed by his nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by his brother Ralph Cook and brother-in-law Calvin Wettlaufer.
Don was a member of the St. James Lutheran Church, North Easthope Township, the Nithburg Hunt Club and the North Easthope Antique Tractor Club. He was a self employed building contractor for over 40 years. He enjoyed restoring antique tractors, cars & trucks.
Visitation will be held at the Mark Jutzi Funeral Home, 291 Huron Street, New Hamburg on Saturday from 7-9 p.m. and again Sunday 2-4 & 7-9 p.m.. The funeral service will be held in the Funeral Home chapel on Monday, January 20, 2014 at 11:00 a.m.. Rev. Patricia Jackson officiating. HORN, Marie

It is with great sadness that we announce that our mother, grandmother and great-grandmother passed away suddenly on Thursday, July 23, 2009. She was surrounded by the love of her family in her own home. Marie was in her 88th year. Predeceased in 2007, by George, her beloved husband of 62 years. Cherished mother of Herb and Audrey Horn, Annemarie and Glen Lees, Judy and David Arn-Horn, and Marlene and Frank Schilling. Loving Oma of Christine and Stephen, Andrew and Tammy, Diane and Greg, Renée and Josh, Sylvia and Neil, Vicki and Matt, Laura, David, Sarah, Phoenix and Mercedes. Gross-Oma (great-grandmother) to Duane, Tyson, Vanessa, Julian, Jakob, Taggart, Jeddah, Cooper and Nolan. Sadly missed by brother-in-law, Adolf and his wife Stefie; sisters-in-law, Sofie Kraft of Germany, Hanna Horn; and many nieces and nephews. Marie was the last surviving member of her family. Predeceased by her parents, Peter and Elisabeth Stoffel, and siblings, Johann, Josef, Elisabett, Anna, twins Peter and Kristine, Wilhemine, Katarine, Pauline and Adolf. Elma passed into the presence of her Lord & Saviour peacefully on Sunday January 12, 2014 with family at her side. She resided at Nithview Community, New Hamburg. She was born 95 years ago in Wilmot Township, the oldest daughter of the late Amos C. & Melinda (Martin) Good.
Beloved wife of the late Gladwin Bender who predeceased her October 12, 2008. Loving mother of Bertha & husband Ray Gingerich of Kingston, Arnie & wife Barbara Bender of Wellesley, Maynard & wife Lila Bender of Conestogo, Sharon Gingerich of Kitchener. Sadly missed by her 12 grandchildren and 21 great-grandchildren. Remembered by her brother Walter & wife Martha Good of R.R. # 2 Gowanstown, sisters Nina Gimbel of Cambridge, Martha Good of New Hamburg, Pearl Good of Arkansas, sister-in-law Ina Bender of Tavistock and Jim Gingerich of Kitchener. Elma was predeceased by brothers Edward & wife Olive Good, Vernon Good, sister Mary Good and brother-in-law Oren Gimbel.
Elma was a member of Nith Valley Mennonite Church, New Hamburg where she was a member of the WMSC and a former member of First Mennonite Church, Kitchener WMSC. She enjoyed quilting, gardening, flowers and volunteering at the House of Friendship Live and Learn Program.

Cressman, Kenneth

Cressman, Kenneth Willard born February 10, 1935 in Wilmot Township, passed away suddenly on January 10th at age 78. He was the son of Zenas Cressman (1994) and Mabel Hannah Burkhart (1946).
Remembered by his wife, Helen Ruth Burkholder, children Kevin, Sheila, Denise (Mao) and Stephanie (Charles), and stepmother Eloise Cressman. Also survived by six grandchildren, Sophia, Bianca and Avalene Fraresso and Jessamine, Rose-H̩l̬ne and Benjamin Le. Missed by sisters and brothers Jean Swartzentruber, Joyce & Kaye Collard, Glen & Ruth Cressman, Lyle & Karen Cressman, Eileen & Willis Freeman. Ken taught secondary school for over thirty years in Campbellford, Simcoe and Paris, Ontario. Following retirement, he did substitute teaching in Paris, Stratford, Kitchener-Waterloo and Cambridge. He also did volunteer work at Waterloo-Oxford DSS near Baden for a number of years. Ken was active in teaching adult Sunday school in his home church and took courses at Conestoga College. At the age of 75, he graduated with a Masters of Theological Studies from the University of Waterloo, to go alongside his Masters of Geography degree.
Visitation will be held at the Mark Jutzi Funeral Home, 291 Huron Street, New Hamburg on Wednesday, January 15 from 2 to 4 pm. and from 7 to 9 pm. The funeral will take place at Nith Valley Mennonite Church on Thursday, January 16 at 3 pm, followed by food and fellowship. Private family interment in Nith Valley Mennonite cemetery. Donations may be made to the Heart and Stroke Foundation or the Mennonite Central Committee (school kits).
