K. Jack Garcon
Kazimierz Garcon, age 89, of Stratford passed away peacefully on Wednesday, February 18, 2009. Jack was born in Poznan, Poland, February 19, 1919 and came to Canada in 1950 and has lived here since 1951. He was a brick layer by trade and worked with Gaffney Construction and later was foreman at FAG Bearings until his retirement in 1984. He was a member of St. Joseph's Roman Catholic Church. Beloved husband for 60 years of Cecile L.(Zybura). Loving father of Danielle Hoffmann (Martin), Waterloo, Steven Garcon (Karen), Stratford. Loving grandfather of Nicole, Desiree and Felicia Garcon. Also survived by brothers Marian and Edward Garcon, living in Poland, a sister-in-law Paulett Gaigner, France and a nephew Paul Zybura, Stratford. Besides his parents he was predeceased by a sister Lucie and a niece Lois Zybura. A family service will be held on Friday with Father Tom Ferrera officiating. Entombment in the Garden Mausoleum, Avondale cemetery. As expressions of sympathy, memorial donations may be made to the Canadian Diabetes Association or the Heart and Stroke Foundation through the W.G. Lorne Grube
Lorne Jack Grube, formerly of 25 Victoria Street, Stratford, passed away peacefully at People Care, Stratford, on Friday, February 20, 2009, in his 89th year. Born in Kitchener, he was a son of the late Henry and Emma Grube. He was a veteran of the Second World War serving as a gunner overseas in Germany. Upon returning from the war, he established Grube Roofing in Stratford, which he owned and operated until retiring. Beloved husband of the late Beulah Ann (Schroeder) Grube who predeceased him on August 7, 1999. He was a loving father (better known as, "The Man with a Big Heart"), to Sharon Barr and Henry of Stratford. He will be sadly missed by his grandchildren John Grube, Shirley Grube and Crystal Barr and her friend Andrew, all of Stratford. Also missed by his great-grandchildren Brandon, Brittany, Cheyanne, Hallie, Alyssa, Brianna and Abigail, sister-in-law Lorna and husband Harold Struthers of Cambridge and several nieces and nephews. Predeceased by his son Jack in 2006, brothers Edwin, Wilfred and Wilson Grube and a sister Beatrice. Cremation will take place and a memorial service will be held at the Heinbuck Funeral Home, 156 Albert Street, Stratford, on Wednesday, February 25, 2009, at 3 p.m. Rev. Doug Reble will officiate. Memorial donations may be made to the Cancer Society or charity of one's choice through the funeral home.

Larry Hoover
Larry Hoover died suddenly at his home on Maple Street in Stratford on Sunday, February 22, 2009, at the age of 73. He was the son of the late Elmo and Fannie Hoover. Larry and his wife Marjorie (Wilson) were in their 53rd year of marriage. Larry was raised in Aylmer, Ontario, where he and his father ran a well-drilling business. In 1975 Larry and Marjorie moved to Texas where he attended Sunset Bible College to become an evangelist. He worked for Churches of Christ in St. Thomas, Thessalon and Stratford, Ontario. Larry served on the board for Great Lakes Bible College in Waterloo Ontario. Larry worked for Canada Post for 18 years in Stratford as a Rural Route Carrier. Larry will be missed by son Steve and wife Dianne (Windsor, ON), daughter Deborah and husband Paul Dale (Stratford, ON) and son Kelvin and wife Kathy (Livingston, Montana). Larry had eight grandchildren, Jeremy Hoover and his wife Devon, Jason Hoover and his wife Grace, Debbie Dale, Joe Dale, Ben Dale, Rachel Hoover, Ben Hoover, Amanda Hoover and three great-grandchildren Elijah, Evan and Elliott. Larry will also be missed by his sister in-law Betty Hoover, niece Dawn Hoover and her children Misha, Jude and Levi of Aylmer, and sisters-in-law and brothers-in-law Bernice and Harold Manicom, Catherine and Glen Picard, Helen and Alton Manicom, Wally and Anne Wilson, Bill and Marie Wilson, Janet and Jerry Bidwell and their families. He was predeceased by his brother Don, sister-in-law and brother-in-law Laetta and Pat Johnson. Visitation will be held at the W. G. Young Funeral Home, 430 Huron Street, Stratford, on Wednesday, February 25 from 2- 4 p.m. and 7- 9 p.m. The funeral will be held at the funeral home on Thursday, February 26, 2009, at 3 p.m. Donations can be made to the Heart and Stroke Foundation or to the charity of your choice through the funeral home.

Helen Leasa
Helen Ordelia Leasa, age 83, passed away peacefully with her family by her side at Spruce Lodge, Stratford, on Sunday, February 22, 2009. Born in Township of Ephrasia Township, Grey County, daughter of the late George Greve and the former Mary Rose. Helen was a member of St. Peter's Lutheran Church. Beloved wife of the late Andrew Leasa whom she married on June 17, 1944, at St. Peter's Lutheran Church and who predeceased her on June 15, 1992. Loving mother of Rose-Mary and husband Albert Fowlie, Barbara and husband Clayton Holst, Andrew and wife Diane Lease, Wanda Hillcoff, Jo-Anne Lease and husband Brian Hinz, George and wife Kathy Lease. Cherished grandmother of 24 grandchildren and several great-grandchildren. Dear sister of Wanda Higenell and husband Charles. Also survived by sisters-in-law Pearl McKone, Mildred Thomson, Hazel Leasa, brother-in-law Lloyd Cook and several nieces and nephews. Besides her parents and husband she was predeceased by daughter Eleanor (Lease) Smith, son-in-law William (Bill) Hillcoff, sisters-in-law and brothers-in-law Helen Leasa, Edna Cook, Ida and husband Elton Faulhafer, Mabel and husband Reinhardt Bauer, Ernest McKone, John Thomson and Albert Leasa. Friends and relatives may call at the W.G. Young Funeral Home, 430 Huron Street, Stratford, on Wednesday, February 25 from 2-4 and 7-9 p.m. The funeral service will be held at St. Peter's Lutheran Church, on Thursday at 1 p.m. Rev. Timothy Teuscher will officiate. Spring interment will be in McTavish cemetery. As expressions of sympathy, memorial donations may be made to Lutherwood, Stratford Mobility Bus, Humane Society, Heart and Stroke Foundation or Canadian Cancer Society through the funeral home.

Victor Lease
Victor Lease, age 74, of Church Street, Stratford, passed away suddenly on Wednesday, February 18, 2009. He was born in Stratford son of the late John and Minnie Lease and was a longtime employee at the Board of Works, City of Stratford until his retirement in 1995. Vic loved playing cribbage at the Army, Navy and Air Force Hall and the Royal Canadian Legion Hall for many years, and often was on the winning team. Beloved husband of Fay Louise (Billings) Foreman for 28 years. Loving father of Steven Lease and wife Shannon, Marcia Lingard and husband Dennis, Jewel Horn and husband Don, Bonna-Mae Lease and George Snedden, Jackie Ashton and husband Rob. Step father of Vincent Foreman and wife Tammy, Jeff Foreman and wife Bev. Grandfather of 17 grandchildren and five great-grandchildren. Brother of Verna Roy and brother-in-law of Marg Lease. Also surviving are nieces and nephews and their families. Besides his parents, he was predeceased by brothers Aaron and Clifford Lease and sisters Irene Drown and Wilma Capling (twin). There will be no funeral home visitation. A service will be held on Saturday, February 21 at 11 a.m. at the Columbarium Wall at Avondale cemetery (Section 14). As expressions of sympathy memorial donations may be made to the Heart and Stroke Foundation or the Diabetes Association through the W.G. Young Funeral Home, 430 Huron Street, Stratford.

Brian McArdle
Brian Gordon McArdle age 44 of King Street, Stratford, passed away suddenly on Thursday, February 19, 2009 as the result of a motor vehicle accident. Brian was a devoted son, husband and father, and loved spending time with each. He was an outdoors person and an avid steelhead fisherman. He was a professional millwright and a devoted 25 year employee of Spartech Color, Stratford. Brian was a hockey Dad and loved watching his sons play hockey. He was born in Woodstock son of Laverne McArdle and the late Eva (Roubouin) McArdle. Beloved husband of Susan Marlene (Hawkins) whom he married September 21, 1991. Loving father of Jeff and Andrew. Devoted son to Laverne McArdle. Brother of Terry McArdle and wife Michele and their children Terri-Lyn and Kate-Lyn, Bradley McArdle and his children David and Jessica. Son-in-law of Marlene Hawkins. Brother-in-law of Bob Carrothers, Barb Hawkins and friend Carney and their children Lucy and Lila, Cathy Dodds and husband Pete and their children Billy, Rachel, Simon and Matthew, Jenn Deter and husband Rolf and their children Grace, Claire and Fred. Also survived by a niece Nikki. Besides his mother he was predeceased by a sister Wendy Carrothers, brother Laverne John McArdle and his father-in-law Fred T. Hawkins. Friends and relatives may call at the W. G. Young Funeral Home, 430 Huron St., Stratford Sunday February 22 from 7-9 p.m. and Monday from 2-4 and 7-9 p.m. The funeral service will be held at Central United Church, 194 Avondale Ave., Stratford on Tuesday at 2 p.m. Interment will be in Johnson cemetery , Eramosa. Marcia McKay
Marcia McKay, age 66, of Stratford passed away peacefully at the Stratford General Hospital on Sunday, February 15, 2009. Marcia was a vital partner with her husband Jim as they began and ran Taxi Dispatch beginning in 1974. She was the devoted wife of Jim Sr. whom she married in 1969. Loving mother of Jim Jr. and wife Michelle Lacroix. Loving grandmother of Mandi and Jimmi McKay. Deeply missed by her one aunt Jean Stephens of Michigan, brother Charlie Carr (Dorothy), sisters-in-law Lorna, Rosemary (Brian) and Pauline, brothers-in-law David (Rachel) and Bob (Janice) McKay. Marcia will be missed by many nieces, nephews and friends. Predeceased by her parents Murray and Irene (nee Bowes) Carr, sisters Marilyn and Roseanne and brother-in-law George McKay. Joseph Pelkmans
Man dies but his spirit does not.
Joseph Augustinus Pelkmans, of Stratford, passed away peacefully, surrounded by his family on Monday, February 23, 2009, at the Stratford General Hospital, in his 75th year. Born in Baarle Nassau, the Netherlands, he was a son of the late Augustinus and Maria (Verheyen) Pelkmans. Survived by children Bill, Stratford, Mary and Greg Ladd, St. Thomas, Carol and Steve Nesbitt, Stratford, Judy Roberts and Brian Roberts, Woodstock, Karl, Woodstock, John and Eva, Embro and Jim and Fleur, Italy; their mother Mary Pelkmans, Stratford; grandchildren Heather (Chris), David, Jacob, Simon, Warren, Nicholas, Jordan, Adam, Connor and Owen; one great-grandson Noah; brother Karl and Ulrike, Kintore, and three brothers and two sisters in the Netherlands. Predeceased by one brother. Cremation has taken place and a private memorial service will be held to honour his life and spirit at a later date. Russell Marlow
Russell Bruce Marlow passed away at his residence, Rebecca Street, Stratford, on Friday, February 13, 2009. He was the son of the late William and Mary Ann Marlow. Russell enlisted in the Royal Canadian Navy and served his basic training at Cornwallis. From there he went to ALBRO Lake Radio Station. He served aboard the HMCS Magnificent, HMCS Bonaventure, HMCS Lauzon. He later owned and operated a restaurant near Lunenburg, N.S., returning to Stratford where he was employed with the City of Stratford until his retirement. He was a 46-year member of the Royal Canadian Legion, Branch #8 and the Army, Navy and Air Force, Unit 261. Besides his parents he was predeceased by his first wife Shirley Erb, his second wife Lynn Read, brothers Norman and Charlie, a sister Marion Lichti. Russell leaves to mourn a son Ricky, daughters Sonia, Yvonne and Cathy and their families; step children Jen McCarthy (Greg), Jodi Quipp (Roy), Jeff Read; grandchildren Justin, Tyler, Dylan, Sammy and Jeffrey. Brothers David Marlow (Cheryl), William Marlow (Winnie), James Marlow; a sister Sue Vandervliet (Gord) and many nieces and nephews and their families. Friends and relatives may call at the W.G. Young Funeral Home, 430 Huron Street, Stratford, on Tuesday, February 17 from 7-9 p.m. The funeral service will be held at the funeral home on Wednesday at 11 a.m. Rev. Terry Hastings will officiate. The Royal Canadian Legion and the Army, Navy and Air Force will hold a memorial service at the funeral home on Tuesday at 6:30 p.m. As expressions of sympathy and in lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to the R C N Benevolent Fund through the funeral home.

Helen MacDonald
Helen Anne MacDonald age 80, of Falstaff Street, Stratford, passed away peacefully at the Stratford General Hospital on Sunday, February 15, 2009. She was born in London daughter of the late James Cluff and the former Annie Fraser and has lived here most of her life. She was a 21-year employee of the Dominion Store on Huron Street and was a longtime member of the Army, Navy and Air Force Ladies Auxiliary, Unit 261 Stratford. Beloved wife of the late Donald L. MacDonald. Loving mother of Lorraine MacDonald and friend Bill McMillan, Karen and husband Conn Smythe, Donna and husband Brian Mark, Gloria MacDonald. Dear grandmother of Todd, Troy, Billie-Jo, David, Amanda, Blair. Great grandmother of Allison, Matthew, Zachary, Kara, Riley, Abigail. Sister of James and Robert Cluff. Besides her parents and her husband she was predeceased by a son Paul MacDonald, a brother George Cluff. The funeral service was held at the W.G. Young Funeral Home, 430 Huron Street, Stratford, on Monday, February 16, at 12 noon. Rev. Terry Hastings officiated. Spring interment at St. Andrews cemetery , North Easthope Township. As expressions of sympathy memorial donations may be made to the Children’s Wish Foundation or the Canadian Cancer Society through the funeral home.
