Friends may visit at the West Chapel of Hulse, Playfair & McGarry, 150 Woodroffe Avenue at Richmond Road, Ottawa, on Thursday from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9pm, with an Eastern Star Service being held in the Chapel at 7pm. Jessie Elliott Orchard (nee Chisholm) - 06/23/2004

At The Glebe Centre, on Tuesday, June 22, 2004 Jessie Elliott Chisholm Orchard, in her 107th year. Beloved wife of the late Richard Orchard and mother of the late Phyllis Bethany. Survived by her sister Winnifred Clarke, her granddaughter Susan Herron and many loved nieces and nephews. The funeral service will be held at The Glebe Centre, main floor, 950 Bank Street, Ottawa on Friday, June 25, 2004 at 10:30am. In lieu of flowers, those who wish may contribute to the work of The Glebe Centre, 950 Bank Street, Ottawa, K1S 5G6. It is with deep sadness that we announce the sudden passing of our beloved son, Alain, on Tuesday, June 29th, 2004 at the age of 29. Cherished son of Marcel Paquette and Pauline (LeBlanc). Died tragically June 29, 2004 in Ottawa at the age of 19 years. Beloved son of Elie and Rima Rizk. Loving brother of Joseph-Jean Rizk and Michael Rizk. Dear grandson of Karam and Odette Estephan and aunt Nabiha. He will also be missed by his great grandmother Genevieve Estephan. Chadi was predeceased by his grandparents Youssef and Hanne Rizk. He will also lovingly be remembered by members of the Rizk, Estephan, Chalhoub, Massaad, Saab, Awad, Saliba, Jabour and Abraham families and many close friends. Marjorie Laing McGregor Ruwald-Major - 07/01/2004

passed away quietly after a lengthly illness, in the hands of her son, in her 80th year. Beloved mother of David McGregor Ruwald (Janice). Cherished grandmother of Landon Lackey-Ruwald (Nicole), Erika and Chelsea Lackey-Ruwald. Mother-in-law of Bonni Boucher, (Larry Hackman). Grandmother to Michael Hackman. Marjorie was the daughter of the late F.A. McGregor and Isobel McGregor. Predeceased by her first husband Donald Ruwald, her daughter Heather Isobel, her son Michael Edwin (Bonni Boucher) and her soul mate and late husband William G. Major. Marjorie is survived by her dear sister Mrs. Elspeth Van Agt (Franz) of the Netherlands, and by several nieces and nephews in Ottawa and the Netherlands. Marjorie was a graduate of McMaster University. She and her husband Donald Ruwald lived on Wards Island Toronto until his untimely death in 1966. She then moved back to her hometown of Ottawa. The family will receive condolences at the Memorial Funeral Home of Hulse, Playfair & McGarry, 584 Somerset Street West 613-233-4773 on Monday July 5th from 2 p.m. to 4 p.m. and 7 p.m. to 9 p.m. Memorial service and interment of cremated remains will be announced at a later date and time. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations to a charity of your choice would be appreciated by the family. We would like to give our heartfelt thanks to Villa Marconi 3rd floor staff for their love and care, to the Retire at Home Crew, to The Rev. Warrant Officer 1st Class R.C.A.F. Veteran, WWII In hospital after a long struggle with Alzheimers on Sunday, June 20, 2004 in his 90th year. Beloved husband and soulmate for 64 years of Doris (Nee Messerschmidt), loved father of Liz Steel (Frank), and Heather Darch. Cherished grandfather of Michael Steel (Sharon Hodder), Todd Steel (Mary), Karen Noseworthy (Andy), Brad Darch (Danielle Dewar) and Lisa Darch (Adam Marshall). Loving great-gramps of Emma, Emily, Jack, Lauren and Amy. Predeceased by his parents Frank and Marion and sisters Millie, Eleanor and Marion. Larry served his country with distinction in WWII. He continued his chosen career in his beloved R.C.A.F. until retirement in 1967. For over 60 years, Lake Dore in the Ottawa Valley was home for Larry and Doris. The "lake" was their special place to share. Friends may visit at the Central Chapel of Hulse, Playfair & McGarry, 315 McLeod Street after 11am Wednesday, June 23rd, 2004 until service time in the chapel at 2:30pm. Interment Beechwood cemetery. Dr. Lew Bohdan Stelmach - 06/30/2004

After a courageous battle with cancer, Lew, age 46, passed away peacefully at home surrounded by loved ones. He lived a short but rich life as an academic, research scientist, sportsman, nature enthusiast, family man and friend. His loss will be felt by the Canadian Scientific community particularly the Communications Research Centre and Carleton University where he worked as a senior research scientist and professor. He will be remembered by all as a loving and kind person, generous to a fault, who lived life as an adventure, experienced to the fullest. Lew is survived by his parents Petro and Iwanna Stelmach; sister Emilia Stelmach (Oleh Dmytriv); nephew Daniel; former wife Vera Yuzyk, daughter Paula Stelmach and loving partner Joanna Pozzulo. He will also be missed by his extended family and friends. Cherished sister of Pauline Sabourin (Ottawa) and Louise Daniel (Windsor), sister-in-law of Elizabeth Sabourin (Ottawa), Thércse Sabourin (Quebec City), and brother-in-law Dr. Maurice Daniel. Predeceased by her sister Fernande Brabazon and brothers Claude, Marcel and Robert. Also survived by numerous nieces, nephews and cousins. At the request of the deceased, there will be no visitation. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at Ste-Anne Roman Catholic Church, 528 Old St. Patrick Street, on Monday, November 21, 2005 at 11am. Interment of Ashes to follow at Notre Dame cemetery. James Young (J.Y.) Clarke

Peacefully, with his family around him, on Friday November 18, 2005 at the Civic Hospital. Beloved husband for 54 years of Margaret. Dear Dad of Lynn, Janet, Sue and Jim, and brother of Peter. Loved by his grandchildren, Erin, Emily, and Liam, for whom he will always be their "Jimpa". He will be sadly missed by family and many friends, among them Dan, Frank and Hoppy. JY retired from the Royal Canadian Navy with the rank of Commander; as a public servant, served with the Canadian Coast Guard and Transport Canada; and was President of the Canadian Maritime Industries Association. He was a member of the Naval Officers Association of Canada and the Royal Naval Engineers Quart Club. Friends may visit at the Central Chapel of Hulse, Playfair and McGarry 315 McLeod St. on Wednesday November 23 from 2 to 7 p.m. A celebration of his life will be held next summer at Breeches Lake, the place he loved the most. Ed was predeceased by his mother Ida, his first wife Isabel MacKay, in laws Frank MacKay (Margie), Anna Way (Russell), Kenneth MacKay, half brother (UK) Basil Bancroft (Daisy), and is survived by his much loved father, Bill Cooke (Nolda), dear wife Brenda Turner, in laws Joan Turner, Glen Turner (Sonya), John Gray (Lorraine), and Elsie MacRury, son Colin Cooke (Chrys), and his children Samantha and Benjamin, their mother Louise Sarazin (James), much loved daughter Karen Resch (Kevin), their children Kody and Kaylea. Fondly remembered by his new found special nephews and nieces and cousins, the latter including Neville Bancroft, and Michael Worsnip. At Ed's request there will be a short wake on Wednesday, November 16, 2005 at 1:30 p.m. at the Central Chapel of Hulse, Playfair & McGarry, 315 McLeod Street at O'Connor, followed by a memorial service at 2:30 p.m. A brief reception at the McGarry Family Reception Centre will follow where friends may gather to share some of the family's good times. Lovingly remembered by his grandchildren Michael Ritter (Flynne), Beth-Caren Goldberg (Bobby), Alan Ritter (Jenni), Andrea Goldenberg (Michael) and Stacey Swedko. Leaving a wonderful legacy of seven great-grandchildren. Forever in the hearts of his devoted nieces and nephews. Predeceased by his beloved grandson Peter Swedko. Olive Mary Craig - 11/14/2005

Peacefully, in hospital, with her family at her side, on Saturday, November 12, 2005, in her 93rd year. She was born on August 18, 1913 to Holly Oliver and (William) James Wills of Ottawa. She married Lloyd George Craig on November 2, 1940 and they were happily married for 54 years before his death on January 17, 1995. Olive was the beloved mother of Bill Craig (Anne), Peg Craig, Holly Craig (Jerry Parker of Ann Arbor Michigan) and Cora Lynn Craig (Steve Harris), and beloved grandmother of Marilyn Craig (Blair Colquhoun), Jane Craig (Gordon Burton) of Deep River, Jeff Craig (Amy Silverman) and the late Mark Craig. She was proud of her great-grandchildren Sarah and Rachel Colquhoun, and Meghan, Patrick, Emily and Korin Burton. She is survived by her dear sister Muriel (Tom Wright) of Cayucos California, and was preceded in death by her sister the late Mavis Wills and brother James (Rhoda) Wills. She will be sadly missed by many nieces, nephews and other sister', Margaret Wilson of Ottawa. Olive devoted her life to her family and her church. Prior to her marriage, she left school early to help her father so the family business could survive during the Great Depression. As a homemaker, she worked hard to make a comfortable home for her husband and children and together Olive and Lloyd denied themselves many things in order to support their children's educations. She was an accomplished needle worker and was making beautiful items to raise monies for charity right up until her death. All of those she loved have many handmade and beautiful knitted and crocheted items by which they will treasure her memory. She had been a member of Bell Street United Church throughout her life, and a member of the United Church Women for 75 years. A service to celebrate Olive's life will be held at Bell Street United Church, corner of Arlington and Bell on Friday, November 18, 2005 at 11:00, followed by a reception in the church hall and then interment at Capital Memorial Gardens. Arrangements in care of the West Chapel of Hulse, Playfair and McGarry. In lieu of flowers, donations to the Bell Street United Church Reserve Fund would be greatly appreciated.

Edna May Ebbitt (nee Rose)

Died peacefully at the Glebe Centre on Saturday, November 19, 2005. She had been a resident of the Glebe Centre for the last two years. Edna was born in Montreal in 1916, where she was active in radio and taught synchronized swimming. She had resided in Ottawa for the past 35 years. Later in life, one of Edna's greatest joys was ballroom dancing. She and her late husband, Bill, regularly attended dancing classes and found great enjoyment in this activity. She loved her family first and will always, always be remembered for her loving smile. Edna was preceded in death by her husband of 56 years, Bill Ebbitt, and her brother, Johnny Rose. Edna is survived by her son Jim, of Westlake Village, California. Edna will be sadly missed by her grandchildren Michael and Tim, as well as many friends. Many thanks to the Glebe Centre staff for their dedication and loving care beyond the call of duty.
