On Tuesday, February 28, 2006 at the age of 91 years. Loving husband for 61 years of Daphne. Father of Chris (Mary Ann). Proud grandfather of Jennifer and David. His successful career in finance spanned Canada, the U.S., Britain and Bermuda. Funeral arrangements in care of the Central Chapel of Hulse, Playfair & McGarry. A Funeral Service will be held in Toronto on Saturday, March 4, 2006 followed by interment. For those wishing, donations may be made to the Hospital for Sick Children in Toronto.

passed away peacefully at the Queensway Carleton Hospital, Ottawa on Sunday, February 26th, 2006. Mary van der Horden (van Wamelen), in her 82nd year, beloved wife of 61 years to Hendrikus (Hank). Loving mother of Mary Newton (the late Rev. John - 2005) of Seeley's Bay, ON; Gerry Merkel (Carl) of Ottawa and Major Patricia McInnes (Major Greg) of Ajax. Grandmother of Karen Vogelzang (Rob) of Seeley's Bay; David and Brian Merkel, both of Ottawa and Melanie McInnes and Tyler (T.J.) McInnes, both of Ajax. Survived by her sister Jo Vryenhoek of Holland. Predeceased by her sister Co de Man and brothers Emiel, Cor and Sjaak. Missed by sisters-in-law, brothers-in-law, nieces and nephews. Friends may visit at the West Chapel of Hulse, Playfair & McGarry, 150 Woodroffe Avenue at Richmond Road on Wednesday, March 1, 2006 from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9pm and on Thursday after 12noon at the Salvation Army, Woodroffe Community Church, 820 Woodroffe Avenue. Peacefully at Stonehaven Manor on Sunday, March 5, 2006 at the age of 90. Beloved husband for 64 years of the late Eleanor (nee Phelan), who predeceased him by just 6 days. Devoted father of Judith, John (Isabel), Jane, Jim (Fran), Stephen (Linda), Susan (Philip Hogarth) and Elizabeth (Danny O'Connor). Proud grandfather of 11 and great-grandfather of two. Predeceased by one sister, Dorothy Brown. Bert was born and raised in Ottawa and graduated from Lisgar Collegiate. He enlisted in the army in 1939, served overseas in World War II, was a United Nations Peacekeeper in 1958 and retired in 1965. A longtime employee of the Public Service Commission of Canada, Bert was of the generation of men who believed in duty, country and hard work. Above all, he was a loving husband and devoted family man. Friends may visit at the Central Chapel of Hulse, Playfair & McGarry, 315 McLeod Street on Tuesday, March 7, 2006 from 7-9pm. Peacefully after a brief illness, with her family by her side, on Monday, February 27, 2006 in her 92nd year. Beloved wife for 63 years of Albert. Devoted mother of Judith, John (Isabel), Jane, James (Fran), Stephen (Linda), Susan (Philip Hogarth) and Elizabeth (Danny O'Connor). Proud grandmother of 11 and great grandmother of two. Predeceased by 3 brothers and 1 sister. Eleanor was born and raised in Ottawa and was educated at Notre Dame Convant and graduated in 1935 from the University of Toronto and was a life long member of St. Theresa's Parish. She was a remarkable woman, known for her keen intelligence, sharp sense of humour and devotion to family. passed away on Saturday, February 25, 2006 at the age of 90. Born in London, England on November 13, 1915. Veteran WWII, Sergeant A.A. Section of The Royal British Artiliery and Airborne Parachute Regiment. Landings in Africa, Sicily, Italy, Normandy. Captured at Arnhem. Loving husband of Pearl (nee Hill). Dear father of Diamond (David Rueter). Fondly remembered by his grandson Tyrone. Annie Amelia (nee Smart) Bretzloff

Peacefully on Monday, March 6, 2006 in her 91st year. Daughter of the late Wellington Smart and the late Lucy Eades. Predeceased by her beloved husband Gilbert Bretzloff in 1985. She will be deeply missed but not forgotten by the many people who loved her. Loving mother of Phillip of Calgary, Carol (David) Holmes of Clarendon, Qc., Sylvia (Peter Robb) of Breckenridge, Qc. Cherished grandmother of Joseph, Kathleen, Phillip, Rebecca and Laura. She is also survived by many nieces and nephews. Amelia was a graduate of MacDonald College; Bishop's University and received her MA in English from the University of Ottawa. Her teaching career began in a one-room schoolhouse in Schwartz, Qc., and continued for 36 years. She taught in Granby, Qc., at Aylmer High School and Philemon Wright High School. In 1967, she was awarded the Order of Scholastic Merit for Outstanding Teaching in the Province of Quebec. Her enduring legacy as a teacher can be found in the many students who remember her fondly as a wonderful educator and mentor. After retirement she wrote about Canadian literature for the Equity Newspaper in Shawville, Qc. Amelia was also an active and dedicated member of St. Peter's Evangelical Lutheran Church. Special thanks to the staff at Riverpark Retirement Residence for their care and compassion. Milton C. James Dale - 03/06/2006

Died peacefully on March 5, 2006. Beloved father of Ann (William Voller), James (Shelley Smith-Dale), Elaine, and Adrienne (Michael Thomson). Special grandfather of Daniel James Frazer (predeceased), Catherine Dale, grandmother of Jaime Shanara and Jordan Dale; and Scott and Leah Thomson. Cherished brother of Elaine, Helen and Ashton. Dear friend of Danny Duhamel, and the boys of Brook Lake Hunting Camp. In 1945, Flight Officer Dale was awarded the Distinguished Flying Cross for completing 38 sorties, including some of the deepest penetrations made into enemy territory. Several sorties involved a flight of nine to ten hours during which his qualities of endurance and tenacity were manifest to his crew, to whom his conduct was a continuous source of inspiration. He displayed a complete disregard for his own personal safety and a high degree of skill. His superb airmanship continued into civilian life with the Ministry of Transportation, first as Civil Aviation Inspector, applying his skills towards efforts to introduce aviation safety standards into Northern Canada, and later as Chief Flight Training Officer, training a new generation of pilots. He finished off his career as a VIP pilot with MOT. Friends may visit at the Central Chapel of Hulse & Playfair and McGarry, 315 McLeod Strret on Wednesday, March 8, 2006, at 11:30 am followed by a reception. In his memory, donations may be made to the Daniel James Frazer Bursary Fund, Carleton University, Development Office, 1125 Colonel By Drive, K1S 5B6. On Tuesday March 7th 2006 after a brief illness. Beloved husband of Jan de Crespigny, loving father of David, Kathy, Julian and Harriet; grandfather of Roy, Lola and Mikela. Magnus was a man of books, a hero to his friends, and a great companion. He will be missed by loving friends in many parts of the world. Magnus was driven by his belief in social justice, his hope for the future, and his implacable hatred of apartheid and racism during his years in South Africa and after. Born in Munich in1934, raised in Johannesburg; Magnus spent most of his life in Canada.
