Roote, Aaron Melvin David

Suddenly as the result of an accident on Wednesday, June 18th, 2003, at the age of 13 years, Aaron Roote of the Saugeen First Nation, dearly loved son of Kelly and Wendy Roote, brother of Kayla of Saugeen, and Kevin Giberson of Pickering, grandson of Mary Roote of Saugeen, and the late Melvin Roote, and Dave Earnshaw of Oshawa and Diane Lovett of Pickering. He will be dearly missed by his aunts and uncles, Cheryl and her husband Brian George of Saugeen, Faye and her husband Rick Pilon of Southampton, Jackie, Tresa and her husband Brian John, Sheldon, Vickey, and Richard and his wife Marci, all of Saugeen First Nation, and by Dave and Lisa Earnshaw of Pickering, and by his many cousins and a multitude of friends. He will be especially missed by his closest friend Cody Ritchie.

Friends may call at the family residence, 28 Service Road on the Saugeen First Nation, on Saturday evening from 7 to 9 p.m., and Sunday from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. Funeral service will be conducted in the James Mason Cultural Centre, Saugeen First Nation on Monday morning at 11:00 a.m. with Father Frank McGee, Rev. Eleanor Russ and Marilyn Roote officiating.

Interment Catholic cemetery , Scotch Settlement.

Memorial contributions to the Bluewater District Board of Education for a memorial scholarship at G.C. Huston School in Aaron’s memory would be appreciated as expressions of sympathy.

Amy Meuser

At the Southampton Care Centre, on Tuesday, June 10th, 2003, in her 93rd year, the former Amy Wagner. Wife of the late Andrew Meuser. Mother of Glen and his wife Marie of Burgoyne, Helen Eyssel of San Diego, Califorina, and Faye of Vancouver, B.C., Grandmother of Gail and her husband Rob Fullerton of Paisley, Norman Meuser and his wife Sandra of Burgoyne, Diane and her husband Steve Morris of Goderich, and Mary and her husband Glen Thornley of Meaford. Great-grandmother of Laura and Faith Fullerton, Amanda, Matthew and Emily Meuser, and Jack and Mark Morris. Predeceased by her brothers, Russell and Leslie Wagner, her sister, Mabel Underwood, and her son-in-law John Eyssel.

A memorial service will be conducted at Knox Presbyterian Church, Burgoyne, on Monday, June 16th, 2003 at 11:00 a.m. with the Rev. Julia Morden officiating.

John "Jack" Butchart

At Elgin Abbey Nursing Home, Chesley, on Tuesday, June 10th, 2003 in his 92nd year, Jack Butchart of Chesley and formerly of Brant Township. Husband of the former Ellece Alexander. Father of John of Durham, and Donna and her husband Walter Bruder of Brant Township. He is also survived by ten grandchildren, eleven great-grandchildren, and by his sister Dorothy Irwin of Port Elgin. Predeceased by his sister Stella MacLean.

Friends may call at the W. Kent Milroy Paisley Chapel, 216 Queen St.S., Paisley from 1 to 2 p.m. on Friday. Funeral service will be conducted in the chapel on Friday at 2:00 p.m. with the Rev. Murray Rounding officiating.

Interment Douglas Hill cemetery.

Alice Loppe

At the Newmarket Health Centre, on Saturday, June 7th, 2003 in her 89th year, Alice Loppe of Newmarket and formerly of Port Elgin, beloved wife of the late Leo Loppe. Mother of Claudia and her husband Rick Wardell of Newmarket, Clare and his wife Val of Bowmanville, and David and his wife Jane of Richmond Hill. Grandmother of April and her husband Elijah Rawlyk, and Neil, Megan, and Brynna Loppe.

Friends may call at the W. Kent Milroy Port Elgin Chapel, 510 Mill Street, Port Elgin, (Town of Saugeen Shores) from 12:00 to 1:00 p.m. on Tuesday. Funeral service will be conducted in the chapel on Tuesday at 1:00 p.m. with the Rev. Gordon Williams officiating.

Interment Sanctuary Park cemetery.

Charles Nihls

In the loving arms of his family, Charles Nihls of Port Elgin, passed away at the Grey Bruce Health Services, Owen Sound, on Wednesday, June 4th, 2003 in his 73rd year. Beloved husband of Ella. Dear father of Michael and his wife Martha of Coquitlam, B.C., Kim and his wife Deborah, Marjorie and her husband Dan O’Driscoll, Jeff and his wife Elizabeth, and Julie and her husband Carl, all of Kitchener. Precious Poppa of twelve grandchildren, Amy, Rebecca, Carmen, Suzanne, Travis, Taylor, Michelle, Casey, Troy, Sabrina, Erik, and Danielle. He is also survived by four sisters, Ruth, Betty, Susie, and Sandra.

An open house reception will be held at the Nihls residence, 737 Mill St., Port Elgin, on Sunday, June 8th, 2003 from 2 to 4 p.m. A memorial service will be held at the Kingdom Hall of Jehovah’s Witnesses, 355 Gage St., Kitchener, on Wednesday, June 11th, 2003 at 2:00 p.m. A reception to follow.

Memorial contributions to the Heart & Stroke Foundation or the Alzheimer’s Society would be appreciated as expressions of sympathy.

Elisabeth Russell

At the Southampton Care Centre on Tuesday, June 3rd, 2003 in her 75th year, the former Elisabeth Hart of Port Elgin. Wife of the late Vaughan Russell. Dear mother of David of Ottawa, Stuart and his wife Debra of Calgary, Sylvia and her husband Ken Holdaway of Port Elgin, and Miriam and her spouse Percy Beauchamps of Toronto. Beloved grandmother of Chris Russell, Tianna Dupuis, Graham and Nicole Russell, Colin, Jason, and Rob Holdaway. She is also survived by her sister Marjorie and her husband Stan Freeman of Goderich.

Private family funeral arrangements were completed by the W. Kent Milroy Port Elgin Chapel. Memorial contributions to the Alzhemier Society would be appreciated as expressions of sympathy.

Wallace Nelson

With great sadness our family shares news of the death of our father Carson Wallace Nelson. Dad passed away on Tuesday, June 3rd, 2003 in his 101st year. Wally was predeceased by his beloved wife Ida Thompson (2000), his eldest son Allan (1998), his parents Allan Nelson and Sara Jane Leggett, stepmother Emma McRae, and his sister Lela. Wally leaves sons, Gordon of Goderich, David and his wife Margaret of Oakville, and Peter and his wife Tracey of Embro, and his daughter Brenda of Guelph; grandchildren, Sara, William, Andrea, and David Nelson, and Josh and Michael Schenkel.

A graveside funeral service will be conducted by the W. Kent Milroy Paisley Chapel on Saturday, June 7th, 2003 at 11:00 a.m. in Tiverton cemetery with the Rev. Wendy Lampman officiating.

Memorial contributions to the Bruce County Museum would be appreciated as expressions of sympathy.

Robert Flett

At the South Bruce Grey Health Centre, Walkerton, on Monday, October 6th, 2003 at the age of 57 years, Bob Flett of Port Elgin and formerly of Greenock Township. Loved husband of the former Pat Reid. Loved father of Sheri and her husband Len Perdue, and Mark Flett and his wife Tammy. Loved “Bumpie” of Jessica and Josh Perdue, and Taylor and Cody Flett. Loved brother of Bill Flett and his wife Bonnie of Lucknow, Ron Flett and his wife Lois of Vergreville, Alberta, Bruce Flett and his wife Kathy of Cargill, Betty and her husband Joe Koebel of Walkerton. Loved son of Reta Flett of Walkerton. Brother-in-law of Carol and her husband Don Wallace of Glammis, Jeannie and her husband Doug Milne of Waterloo, and Bill Reid and his wife Laurie of Paisley. Son-in-law of Eldon and Gwen Reid. He is predeceased by his father James Flett

Suddenly on Saturday, October 4th, 2003 at the age of 82 years, the former Helen Harriett Solomon Mandawoub of Saugeen First Nation, last surviving member of the Tom Solomon (TS) Mandawoub family. Wife of the late Chief James Mason. Mother of Hilliard Besito, Shirley, Mrs. Melvin Elliott, Marie Mason, Gary Mason and best friend Douglas Bignell, Kathlene Gayle Mason Stark and Bruce Stark, Theodore and Joanne Mason, Phillip and Janice Mason, Allan and Bonnie Mason, Elwood Mason, Gwen Mason, Margaret and Tom Kewageshig, Helen Ritchie and Tom Chisholm, Francis Kruger, Lori, Mrs. Darrell Jack, Deanna and Alvin Ingersol. Also survived by thirty-four grandchildren, thirty-two great-grandchildren, many nephews and nieces. Will be sadly missed by special nieces Norma Johnson and Serda Bongertman, and Duke Redbird, and Cherry Ann. Predeceased by her son, Mathew Randolph, daughter Leona Lawrence, grandchildren, Allister Mason, Greg Roote, Landon Roote, two great-grandchildren, special nephew Jack Richardson Redbird, niece Virginia Richardson, brothers Joseph, Patrick, Alexander, Basil, Amos, Clarence, Elgin Solomon Mandawoub, and sisters Lucy Solomon, Stella Solomon and Pauline Ritchie.

Friends may call at the James Mason Cultural Centre, Saugeen First Nation, from 2 to 4 & 7 to 9 p.m. on Monday. Funeral service will be conducted in the James Mason Cultural Centre on Tuesday at 11:00 a.m. with Father Frank McGee officiating.

Peacefully at the South Bruce Grey Health Centre, Walkerton, with his family at his side on Thursday, October 2nd, 2003 at the age of 75 years, Earl Bertram Purdy of Paisley. Husband for 53 years of the former Joyce Sterling. Father of Howard and Connie of Kitchener, Roy and Carol of Lindsay, Murray and Janice of Port Elgin, Wayne and Laurel of Paisley, Carol and Ronald McTeer of Hanover, Joe and Pat of Hanover, Colleen of Walkerton, Ray and Barb of Sarnia, Charlie and Laura of London, and Kevin and Carrie of Port Elgin. He is also survived by twenty-five grandchildren, eight great-grandchildren, one sister and one brother. Predeceased by his parents William and Florence (Armstrong) Purdy, five sisters, and five brothers.

Loving husband and best friend of the former Margaret Austin. Loving father of Debbie and her husband Lyle Wuilleme of Sundridge, Cheryl and her husband Paul Young, and Marleise and her husband Percy Fountain all of Trout Creek. Poppa of Christopher, Jenalyn, Brock, Nathan, Jacob, Matthew, Cassandra, and Cole. Brother of Donna Herrington of Dundas, Kay Ryckman of West Flamboro, Gary and his wife Bonnie, Ed and his wife Marilyn all of Lynden, David and his wife Marlene of Hamilton and Janet and her husband Frank Davis of Jerseyville. Son-in-law of Kenn and Ilean Austin of Tobermory. Brother-in-law of Sharon Austin, Mike Austin, and Jim and Nancy Austin, all of Owen Sound, Perry and Gayle Austin of Williamsford, David and Debbie Austin of Niagara Falls, and Darryl and Sheri Austin of Thorold. He is also survived by many nieces and nephews. He is predeceased by his mother Viola and by his brother-in-law Alfie Ryckman
