Elizabeth "Betty" Thomas

At Elgin Abbey in Chesley, on Tuesday, November 11th, 2003, at the age of 91 years, the former Elizabeth “Betty” Schwass of Port Elgin. Wife of the late Tracey Thomas. Step-grandmother of Cindy, Patty and Donna. Sister-in-law of Doris Nixon of Guelph. She is predeceased by three sisters, Caroline Robinson, Martha McCarrel and Dorothy Sim, and by one stepson Bill Thomas.

Friends may call at the W. Kent Milroy Port Elgin Chapel, 510 Mill Street, Port Elgin, from 7 to 9 p.m. on Wednesday evening. Funeral service will be conducted in the chapel on Thursday at 2:00 p.m., with the Rev. Julia Morden officiating.

Interment Sanctuary Park cemetery.

Memorial contributions to the Memorial Fund of Knox Presbyterian Church, Burgoyne, or to the Saugeen Memorial Hospital Foundation would be appreciated as expressions of sympathy.

Mervyn McAllister

At the Grey Bruce Health Services, Southampton, on Monday, November 10th, 2003 at the age of 57 years, Mervyn McAllister of Port Elgin. Loving husband of the former Darlene Loewen. Loving father of Karla McAllister and her husband Harvey Shular Jr. of Etobicoke, Michelle McAllister and her boyfriend Bernie Klein of Whitby, and Jayson of Port Elgin. He is also survived by his mother Jean McAllister, brother Keith, uncle Alex McAllister and his wife Kay, and his aunt Mildred McAllister, all of Collingwood. He is predeceased by his father Frances.

Friends may call at the W. Kent Milroy Port Elgin Chapel, 510 Mill Street, Port Elgin, from 2 to 4 & 7 to 9 p.m. on Wednesday. Funeral service will be conducted at the Port of Fellowship Baptist Church, 910 Goderich Street, Port Elgin on Thursday at 11:00 a.m. with Pastor Eric Watson officiating.

Interment Sanctuary Park cemetery.

Ruth Schlueter

On Wednesday, November 5th, 2003 after a brief illness at the age of 70 years, the former Ruth Gordon passed away peacefully, surrounded by her family. Wife of the late Roy Henry Schlueter. Dear sister of Jean Kemp of Stratford. Loving mother of Carol and her husband Bill McComb of Tobermory, Susan and her husband Bill Conn of Owen Sound, Kathryn Schlueter and her friend Doug Lein of Port Elgin and Lorryn Welsh of Tara and her friend Wayne Meyers of Port Elgin. Grandma of eighteen grandchildren and eight great-grandchildren. Predeceased by daughter Joan McFarlane, son Gordon Schlueter, sister Doris Griffith and grand-daughter Joanna.

Friends may call at the W. Kent Milroy Port Elgin Chapel, 510 Mill Street, Port Elgin, from 7 to 9 p.m. on Thursday and from 2 to 4 & 7 to 9 p.m. on Friday. Funeral service will be conducted at the Port Elgin United Church, 840 Bruce Street, Port Elgin on Saturday at 2:00 p.m. with Pastor Bob Johnston officiating.

Interment Avondale cemetery , Stratford.

Erma McKenna

At the Southampton Care Centre on Saturday, November 1st, 2003, at the age of 71 years, Erma McKenna. Mother of Mitzi and her husband Don Filiatrault of Sudbury, Vicki Berry of Sault Ste. Marie, Kevin McKenna of Sudbury, Mark McKenna of Bruce Twp., and Jane and her husband Rodger Schnittker of Chesley. She is also survived by nine grandchildren.

Funeral service will be conducted at the W. Kent Milroy Port Elgin Chapel, 510 Mill Street, Port Elgin, (Town of Saugeen Shores) on Tuesday, November 4th, at 11 a.m. with Father Mike Francis officiating.

Interment Sanctuary Park cemetery , Port Elgin.

Mamie Docherty

At the Credit Valley Hospital, Mississauga on Tuesday, October 21, 2003 in her 90th year, the former Mamie Houston, wife of the late Archie Docherty. Loving mother of Dorothy Thomson (Chris) of Toronto and John Docherty of Wawa. Loved Grandmother of Alex, Beth and Kristen Thomson. She is predeceased by 6 brothers and sisters.

Funeral services will be conducted at the W. Kent Milroy Paisley Chapel, 216 Queen St. S. Paisley, on Saturday at 11:00 a.m. with the Rev. Murray Rounding officiating.

Interment Purdy cemetery , Greenock Township.

Edward Harris

It is with great sadness that the family announces the passing of Edward Harris on Sunday, October 19th, 2003 at the Headwaters Health Care Centre, Orangeville, in his 80th year. Ed will be missed by his wife Lori “Bert”, his daughters Deborah Harris and her husband Tar Nella of Toronto, and Brenda Harris and her partner Kelly Kingsland of Toronto, stepdaughters Judith Sykes, and Joanne and her husband Roger Gougeon, and grandchildren Angela, Adam, & Mark. Ed is predeceased by his sisters Ruby, Eunice and Pearl. Ed’s family and many friends will long remember him for his love of a good joke, enthusiasm for golf and his kind and generous spirit.

At the Southampton Care Centre on Friday, October 10th, 2003, at the age of 82 years, the former Joan Gunn, wife of the late Fred Owen and the late Pat Hickey, mother of Frederick and Robert and his wife Gail, all of Toronto, grandmother of Thomas Owen, Michelle Owen, and Michael Owen. She is also survived by her dear friends Susanne Owen, and Linda and Winston Ffrench Also surviving is one niece Lori Gunn, one nephew Jeff Gunn, grandnephew Travis Gunn, and grandniece Nicole Gunn.

A private family funeral service will be conducted at the W. Kent Milroy Port Elgin Chapel, 510 Mill Street, Port Elgin, (Town of Saugeen Shores) on Saturday, October 11th with the Rev. Gordon Williams officiating

Interment Glendale Memorial Gardens, Toronto on Tuesday, October 14th, at 1 p.m..

Hammond, Jean

At her residence in Port Elgin on Friday, September 16th, 2003, at the age of 69 years, Jean Hammond, wife of the late Wallace Hammond.

A memorial service will be conducted in the W. Kent Milroy Port Elgin Chapel, 510 Mill Street, Port Elgin (Town of Saugeen Shores), on Thursday morning, October 16th, 2003, at 11 a.m., with the Rev. Gordon Williams officiating.

A reception will immediately follow in the Community Room of the funeral home.

Sandra Margaret McDonald

In Victoria B.C., Sandra Margaret McDonald, wife of Alex McDonald of Victoria B.C., mother of Norman and his wife Pam of Lynden, Ontario, and Grandmother of Zachary. Sister of Dave Scholey of Victoria and Bill Scholey of Bangkok, Thailand. Sister-in-law to Malcolm “Mac” McDonald of Whitby, and Marj and her husband Wolf Stahlman, of Florida.

The family gathered at the W. Kent Milroy Port Elgin Chapel, 510 Mill Street, Port Elgin, on Friday, October 11th, at 2 p.m, then proceeded to Southampton cemetery , where the Rev. Julia Morden officiated at a graveside service.

Florence Johnson

Quietly at her residence on Thursday, January 8th, 2004 at the age of 52 years, the former Florence John of Saugeen First Nation. Wife of Terry Robert Johnson. Mother of Kathleen and her husband Phillip Johnson, Sheila Bob, and Priscilla and her husband Orion Southwind, all of Saugeen First Nation. She will be remembered by her sister Gretta Foster of Cambridge, and by her brothers Larry, Fredrick, Carson, and Eugene John, all of Saugeen First Nation. She is also survived by eleven grandchildren and many nieces and nephews. She is predeceased by her daughter Mary Lee, her parents, and by one nephew.

Friends may call at her residence, 699 French Bay Road, Saugeen First Nation, from 2 to 4 & 7 to 9 p.m. on Saturday and Sunday. Funeral service will be conducted in the James Mason Cultural Centre on Monday at 2:00 p.m. with the Rev. Eleanor Russ and Pastor Philip Ritchie officiating.

Interment French Bay cemetery.

Ruth Mills

passed away peacefully on Sunday, January 4th, 2004, at Grey Bruce Health Services, Southampton. Loving wife of the late Sidney Mills. Much loved mother of George and his wife Dale of Tottenham, David and his wife Colleen and James and his wife Sandra, all of Port Elgin. Proud grandmother of Chris and his wife Nancy Mills of Oakville, Nancy Mills of Tottenham, Kathy Henderson and her husband Jason and Shawn Mills all of Kitchener, Jason Mills of Windsor and Colleen Mills of Port Elgin. Also survived by great grandchildren Kelsey and Caleb. Sister of Mary and predeceased by brothers Edward, Stan, Phillip, John and sisters Mabel, Lillian and Eunice. She will be sadly missed by nieces, nephews and friends.

Friends may call at the W. Kent Milroy Port Elgin Chapel, 510 Mill St., Port Elgin, on Saturday, January 10th, 2004, from 1.00 p.m. to 2.30 p.m. Memorial service at 2.30 p.m with Pastor Bob Johnston officiating.

George Tudge

passed away suddenly, with his family at his side, on Thursday, January 1st, 2004, at the Grey Bruce Health Services, Southampton. He was born in St. Boniface, Manitoba on November 16th, 1922, and is predeceased by his parents Victoria and James, and by his sister Janet. He is survived by his wife Isobel, sons Nicholas, Joseph and Timothy, daughters Theresa and her husband Wayne Thomas, Melissa Eugene, and Christine Tudge and her husband Jordan Tserghanos, as well as, sisters Winnifred Roy, and Evelyn McGraw and her husband Frank.

He worked many years for the City of Mississauga and retired as Chief Building Inspector after which he enjoyed his favourite hobby, fishing, and a new career in real estate. He was a special man who was honest and generous with his friends and family, and was much loved by both. He will be sorely missed.

Friends may call at the W. Kent Milroy Port Elgin Chapel, 510 Mill St., Port Elgin, on Tuesday, January 6th, 2004 from 1:00 until time of service at 2:00 p.m.
