A memorial service will be held at the Steckley-Gooderham Funeral Home, (Clapperton and Worsley St.), Barrie on Friday April 20th, 2007 at 1:00pm. passed away suddenly at home surrounded by his loving family on Monday April 16, 2007. Nick Duivenvoorden of Oro in his 65th year. Beloved husband of Dianne of 40 years. Survived by husband Gerald Fletcher; children Guy Maracle, Donna Armstrong, David Maracle; and many grandchildren, great-grandchildren, brothers and sisters. He will be sadly missed by his 5 grandchildren Emily, Dryden, Reiva, Emerald, and Dalton. Dear brother of Harry Dryden (late Patti). Predeceased by his sisters Mildred Murray (late Ernie), Frances Hughes (Bill) and Gladys Dryden. Also survived by many nieces, nephews, relatives and friends. Michael J. Collins

January 27th 2008 in his 90th year, at Royal Victoria Hospital, Barrie. Survived by Mary, his loving wife of sixty-three years and their children Michael (Linda), Kathy, Tom (Rasa), and Brian (Louise). Also survived by grandchildren Ian (Christine), Anna, Jason (Kim), Amy (Jeff) and Shauna, and great-grandchildren Monty, Kylie and Kyle. Born in Dublin in 1918, coming to Canada as a ten-year old, Mike became a farmer in Vespra Township near Barrie. He served in the Grey & Simcoe County Foresters and then joined the RCAF in World War II. After the war, he worked at Camp Borden, Ontario and Toronto International Airport. Mike was a writer and avid historian all his life, publishing numerous magazine articles, fiction pieces and a collection of rural stories called Side Roads & Rail Fences. He was a member of the Canadian Authors Association and the Laubach Literacy organization. In retirement Mike continued to write, travel, and garden. He also obtained a university degree from York and served as a director of the Gryphon Theatre Society and president of the Georgian Bay Credit Union, both of Barrie. A member of St. Mary’s Parish in Barrie, Mike will be sorely missed by his friends and family. Friends may call at the STECKLEY-GOODERHAM Funeral Home (Clapperton and Worsley St.), Barrie on Monday 7-9pm and Tuesday 2-4 and 7-9pm. Parish prayers will be held on Tuesday evening at 8:45pm. A funeral mass will be held at St. Mary’s Church, Barrie on Wednesday January 30th at 10:00am. Interment St. Mary’s cemetery , Barrie. Peacefully at Royal Victoria Hospital, Barrie on Wednesday January 30, 2008. John Gilfillan of Montreal in his 92nd year. Beloved husband of Edythe. Loving father of Kathy Sides (Jim) of Barrie. Predeceased by son Douglas and daughter Karen. Cherished grandfather of Stephanie Huyssen (Teague) and Andriana Sides and fiancé Trevor of Barrie. As per his request, there will be no funeral or memorial service. He will be cremated and laid to rest in his beloved Arundel at a later date.
