At Grandview Lodge, Dunnville, on Friday, September 20th 2002. Mrs Vera mann, formerly of Welland, in her 79th year. Dear mother of Betty and Jim Atkinson, Berry Gaw, Billy Gaw, BrendaRoberts, Brett Gaw, Brian and Terry Mann, Joe and Karen Mann, Jack and Kim Mann, Dave and Lori Mann and Billie Joe and Mike Sabo. Lovingly remembered by her grandchildren and great grandchildren. Dear Sister of Florence King, Mervin and Queen Butcher, Joyce Gentile and predeceased by bernie Nikirk, Marion Lepp, George Butcher and Ivor Butcher. Cremation has taken place. At Welland County General Hospital, on Thursday September 19th 2002. Mrs. Enid "Jo" Lindsay, of Fonthill, in her 79th year. Beloved wife of the late Howard Lindsay (1980). Dear mother of Patti Dixon and her husband Jim of Welland and predeceased by her son Don Lindsay (2002) and dear mother-in-law of Pat Lindsay of Welland. Also loved by her grandson Jason Dixon of Welland and Jay Lindsay of Stoney Creek. Dear sister of Doris O'Neal of Welland, Jean Mortson of Sault Ste Marie and her twin sister Edra Belinki also of Sault Ste Marie. Predeceased by her brothers Basil and Reg MacDonald and her sister Nora Cavanagh. Special friend of Ken Hoare of Thorold. Survived by several neices, nephews and their families. Cremation Friends will be received by the family one hour prior to the Memorial Service being conducted in the chapel of the James L. Velma L. "Krusell" Phillips

at the Welland County General Hospital on Thursday, October 31st, 2002. Velma L. (Krusell) Phillips, in her 83rd year. Beloved wife of the late Russell R. Phillips (October 2, 2002). Dearly loved mother of Peter Phillips (Christie), Judith Sullivan (Daniel), Allan Phillips, Leslie Phillips (Mary) all of Welland and Kathryn Main of Fonthill. Dear sister-in-law of Edythe Phillips, Orval and Ethel Phillips all of Welland. Predeceased by her brothers Emile and Peter Krusell and her sister Virginia (Jaye) Bunn. Cherished grandmother of Heather Tremblay (Ted), David Phillips (Kim), Jeffrey Sullivan (Jennifer), Zachary Main, Christinia Phillips and great-grandmother of Kaylee Tremblay. Thomas Murphy

Peacefully, at Welland County General Hospital, on Wednesday November 6, 2002, in his 89th year. Beloved husband of the late Betty Murphy (1997). Survived by his sons Bruce and wife Shirley of Hamilton and Bryan, Julia and their daughter Amber of London. Tom was a lifetime resident of Welland, and worked for over 40 years at Atlas Steels, retiring in 1978. We wish to thank the Homecare workers, Marjorie, Lin, Jody, Sandy, Anne Marie and Rosemary for their kind and patient help in caring for Dad. Also the 6th Floor Hospital staff Barb, Head Nurse and Mrs. Nancy Riou for their kindness. Friends will be received by the family from 2-4 and 7-9 p.m. Sunday at the JAMES L. William Hering

at McMaster University Medical Centre, Hamilton, on Friday October 11, 2002. Constant partner and loving husband for 47 years to Florence (Walker) Hering. Son of the late Frank Hering (November 5, 1963) and the late Helen (Stropkovics) Hering (September 23, 1981). Very proud and loving father of Catharine and Perry Barnhart of Dunnville and Martin and Diane Hering of Fenwick. Loving and much loved Poppa of Steven William Barnhart, Tessa Lynn Hering and Philip William Hering. Dear brother of Lydia Hrenchuk (and her late husband Fred) of Chippawa, Jim Hering and his wife Davolyn, Margaret Millar (and her late husband Jack), Frances Hering, Ruth and John Hildebrant, Evelyn and Bob Game all of St. Catharines, the late Frank Hering (January 10, 1999) and his late wife Patricia (October 11, 1995) and the late Irene Woods. Dear brother-in-law of Russell Woods and Michael Walker both of St. Catharines. Also survived by many nieces, nephews, great nieces and nephews and great great nieces. Willy retired as a set-up in the drive train of Hayes Dana in October 1986. He built the family home for Florence and their children. He enjoyed hunting and fishing and built a cottage for his family on Lake Skootamatta. There, he and Flo made many friends who will miss him. Snow in the winter did not keep him indoors. He would go out on his tractor and clean his neighbours driveways. In his younger days when friends were building their own homes, he was there to help. You could count on Will if you needed him. Joseph Joe

passed away at Hotel Dieu Hospital on Friday October 18, 2002 Joseph Joe, in his 81st year. Beloved husband of Mary for 52 years and loving father and grandfather of MaryAnne and John Rachiero and their son Christopher of Toronto and Leonard and Janice Joe and their son Philip of Wainfleet. Dear brother of Margaret Menge, Julius Joe and Louis Joe. Joseph retired from Atlas Steels in 1985 where he worked for 44 years as an electrician. The family will receive friends Monday from 2-4 and 7-9 p.m. at the JAMES L. PEDLAR FUNERAL HOME - DIXON CHAPEL, 1292 Pelham Street, Fonthill, where the funeral will be conducted in the chapel on Tuesday October 22nd at 11:00 a.m. with Mr. Lloyd Fraser officiating. Jordan Peter Haag

Tragically as the result of an accident, in Welland, on Friday October 18th 2002. Jordan Peter Haag, of Welland, in his 17th year. Beloved son of Susan and Peter Haag of Welland and dear brother of Adam Haag at home. Beloved grandson of Norma Alsop of St. Catharines and the late Donald Alsop and the late Auguste and Otto Haag. Also loved by his aunt Doris Marilyn Haag of Niagara Falls, Alan and Janis Alsop of North Carolina and Beth and Mark Krupa of Prince Edward Island. Survived by his cousins Jennifer, Gordon, Hillary and Taylor. Jordan was involved in many school activities at Centennial Secondary School and a valued employee of Zellers since September 2001. Jordan will be dearly missed by his family and many friends. Cremation has taken place. Friends will be received by the family at Welsey United Church, 244 First Avenue North, Welland, on Tuesday October 22nd from 1:00 pm. until service time at 3:00 pm. with Reverend Kim Wright officiating. Miss Mildred Marguerite Leavens

at the Schoellkopf Health Centre in Niagra Falls, New York, on Saturday October 19th 2002, in her 95th year. Born in Acton, Ontario, she lived most of her life in Niagara Falls, New York, where she trained as a registered nurse. During World War II she served in the U.S. Army Medical Corp in England and Germany. She retired as a registered nurse from Memorial Medical Centre in 1973 after 42 years of service. She is survived by her sister Dorothy Ford and her husband Henry of Baysville, a sister Edna of Fonthill, a sister-in-law Marjorie Leavens of Stoney Creek, a brother-in-law Gerry Stortz of Welland as well as neices, nephews, great nieces and nephews and great-great nieces and nephews. Marguerite is predeceased by her brothers and sisters Ileen, Edward, Florence, Violet, Fred and Charles. Friends will be received by the family from 1:00 pm. until service time at 2:00 pm. on Wednesday, October 23, 2002 at the JAMES L. PEDLAR FUNERAL HOME - DIXON CHAPEL, 1292 Pelham Street, Fonthill. Cremation with interment of cremains at Pleasantview Memorial Gardens.

Mrs Kathleen Patricia "Pierce" Harvey

Peacefully in her sleep at West Oak Village, Oakville, on October 26, 2002, in her 71st year. She was predeceased by her husband Gerry in 1992. Pat is survived by her daughter Kathy, Her son David, and his wife Vicki and their three children Benjamin, Jillian and Joseph, and by her sisters Winnie Cumming, Helen Shackleton, her brothers Roy, Bob and Bernard Pierce. A special thanks to all her wonderful friends, and to the staff at Shorthills Villa, Fonthill, whose kindness and caring were so evident over the past few years. Vistiation will be at the JAMES L. PEDLAR FUNERAL HOME - DIXON CHAPEL, 1292 Pelham Street, Fonthill, from 2-4 & 7-9 pm. Tuesday October 29, 2002. A private family service will be held in the chapel on Wednesday, October 30, 2002 followed by interment beside her late husband Gerry, at Fonthill cemetery. Pat has gone on to a place where the bridge games never ends, and beautiful music fills the air. We will miss her.

Mrs June Elizabeth "Poore" Urquhart

After a courageous battle with multiple illnesses over the past 20 years passed away peacefully with her family at her side at Versa Care Centre, St. Catharines, on Wednesday, October 30th 2002. June had a very strong will and determination for life. She is the beloved wife of William G. "Bill" Urquhart of Fonthill. Loving mother of Bryan Urquhart and his wife Lorraine of St. Catharines, Laurie Iafrate and her husband Frank of Fonthill, Susan Crutchlow and her husband Rick of Manotick and Heather Davidson and her husband Jeff of Fonthill. Also loved by her grandchildren Will (Carol), Joe (Rachel), Dan, Carrie, Jennifer (Jay), Patricia, Sean, Gregory, Steven, Richard and her great-grandchildren Madeline, Chloe and Owen. Dear sister of Carole LePage of Ottawa, Barbara Lee (Willard), of Brockville, Art Poore also of Brockville, Beverley Latham (Donald) of Burlington and predeceased by her brothers Kenneth and Donald Poore. Special thanks to nurses and staff at Versa Care Centre and to Dr. Chauhan and Dr. Oinonen for their special care of June. Friends will be received by the family from 7-9 pm. At Extended Care Unit, Welland County Hospital on Wednesday, November 13, 2002 in her 96th year. Beloved wife of the late Stanley J. Holmwood (1970) and loving mother of Merle Holmwood (Diane) of Fonthill, Elsie Crown (Chester) of St. Ann's and Marjorie Desjardin. Also loved by her 6 grandchildren, 10 great-grandchildren and 2 great-great-grandchildren. Survived by her sisters-in-law Helen Gilbert, Rose Gilbert and Gladys Gilbert. Predeceased by her brothers Harvey Clarence, Bruce, Oliver, Fred, Herb, sisters Esther Aikens, Stella Cosby, Beatrice Lampman, daughter-in-law Muriel Holmwood and son-in-law Leo Desjardin. Friends will be received by the family Friday, November 15th from 2-4 and 7-9 pm. at the JAMES L. PEDLAR FUNERAL HOME-DIXON CHAPEL, 1292 Pelham Street, Fonthill where the funeral service will be conducted in the chapel on Saturday, November 16, 2002 at 11:00 a.m. with Pastor Matthew Chesnes officiating. Pearl Elizabeth Long

Our beloved Mother, Grandmother and Great-Granmother passed to the Lord on Friday, August 23, 2002 at 5:45pm. Wife of the late Earl C.Long(September 2001) and Charles H. Cook (October 1952). Precious mother of Mary Margaret Rooke (David), Robert C. Cook (Luz) and Betty E. Reece (Douglas). Cherished Grandmother to nine Grandchildren and ten Great-Grandchildren, sister of Olive Travers. Predeceased by her sister Mary Horton and brother Frederick Schell. Pearl was a dedicated lifetime member of Brethren in Christ Church. A celebration of Pearl's life will be held at the JAMES L. PEDLAR FUNERAL HOME-DIXON CHAPEL, 1292 Pelham Street Fonthill at 2:00 pm on Monday August 26th.The family appreciates the compassion and professionalism of the medical staff on the sixth floor of the Welland Hospital.

Mildred Emma Edwards

It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of our much-loved wife, mother and grandmother. Mildred Emma Edwards, of Fonthill, passed away peacefully at Sunset Haven, Welland, November 11th 2002 in her 84th year. Mildred was the beloved and much cherished companion of Clifford. married July 4th, 1942, they shared more than 60 years together and even that seems much too short. She will be deeply missed by her daughters Darlene Edwards and Shelly Tonelli (husband Tony). She was a loving grandmother to Lisa Hall (husband Lonnie Langille), Joseph Hall and Christina Hall and a truly great-grandmother to Jacob Langille. Mildred was born in Mount Hope, Ontario and was the oldest of 8 children. She will be missed by her brothers Cliiford (Marie) Wilson, Lloyd (Elizabeth) Wilson and Roger (Jean) Wilson. She was predeceased by her brothers Don, Leverne and Wray Wilson and sister Audrey Cumming. Also saddened are her brothers-in-law, George Cumming and Wallace Edwards and sister-in-law Arlene Wilson. Mildred leaves behind several nieces and nephews and will be particularly missed by her special great-nieces Candice and Courtney Wilson. Mildred was a great supporter of the Heart and Stroke Foundation, active in fundraisers and raising public awareness. She was also a valued member of the Meals on Wheels program and dedicated more than 30 years to serving the communities where she lived. Mildred was a devoted member of the Fonthill United Church, where she developed many cherished friendships. She will be missed at Sunday services and church functions. Also important to Mildred were her four cats, Bill, Jill, P.C. and Jake. They brought her much happiness and always made her smile. We invite friends and relatives to join us at the JAMES L. PEDLAR FUNERAL HOME-DIXON CHAPEL, 1292 Pelham Street Fonthill to celebrate Mildred's life. Visitation will be held Tuesday, November 12th from 7-9 pm. and again on Wednesday Noveber 13th from 3-5 and 7-9 pm. Funeral service will be held Thursday November 14th in the funeral home chapel at 1:00 pm. with interment to follow at Hillside cemetery on Canboro Road. In lieu of flowers, we would request donations be made to the Alzheimers Society.

Russell R. Phillips

At Welland County General Hospital, on Wednesday, October 2nd, 2002. Russell R. Phillips of Welland in his 85th year. Beloved husband of Velma L. (Krusell) Phillips. Dearly loved father of Peter Phillips (Christie), Judy Sullivan (Daniel), Allan Phillips, Leslie Phillips (Mary) all of Welland and Kathryn Main of Fonthill. Dear brother of Orval Phillips (Ethel) of Welland and predeceased by his brother Donald Phillips. Dear brother-in-law of Edythe Phillips of Welland. Cherished grandfather of Heather Tremblay (Ted), David Phillips (Kim), Jeffrey Sullivan ( Jennifer ), Zachary Main, Christinia Phillips and great-grandfather of Kaylee Tremblay. For 50 years Mr. Phillips was an auto mechanic working in Welland with MacLean Motors, Birdland, and most recently David Chev Olds. He served overseas during World War II with the 46th Battery 9th Light LAA Regiment. He was actively involved with Wurbagool Sports Club. Friends will be received by the family from 2-4 & 7-9 p.m. Sunday at the JAMES L. PEDLAR FUNERAL HOME - DIXON CHAPEL, 1292 Pelham Street, Fonthill, where the funeral service will be conducted in the chapel on Monday, October 7th at 10:00 a.m. with Reverend Bob Bond officiating. Mrs Loretta M. (Wilkie) Stayzer

at Extended Care, Welland County General Hospital, on Saturday October 5, 2002. Mrs. Loretta M. (Maloney) Sullivan, wife of the late Elmer Sullivan. Dearly loved mother of Paul Sullivan (Constance) of London and Daniel Sullivan (Judith) of Welland. Dear sister of Jack Maloney, Harriette Takacs, Veronica St.Thomas and sister-in-law of Georgie Maloney. Beloved grandmother of Greg (Elise), Brian (Isobel), Jeffrey (Jennifer) Sullivan and great-grandmother of Emily, Laura and Daniel. Predeceased by brothers Harold and Richard Maloney, sisters Theresa, Bernice and Anna Maloney and brothers-in-law Joe Takas and Jack St.Thomas. Also survived by many nieces and nephews. The family are particularly appreciative to the caregivers at the Extended Care Unit. Cremation has taken place.
