BOYCHUK, JOHN: At West Lincoln Memorial Hospital on Saturday, September 27, 2008, John Thomas Boychuk of Smithville in his 67th year. Beloved husband of the late Thelma Boychuk (nee Knorr) (2002). Dear son of Mary Boychuk and of the late John Boychuk (1984), and son-in-law of Henry Knorr and the late Martha (1989). Brother of Carol Boucock. Loving father of Virginia and Tom Cowell, and John Boychuk and Heather Anderson. Cherished grandfather of Amber Cowell (Shawn Lampman), Ryan Cowell (Carol Miller), John Boychuk (Kim Green), Melissa Boychuk, and great-grandfather of Mackenzie and Kaydence. Brother-in-law of John Wielink. Also predeceased by his sister Olga Wielink (1993) and great-grandson Dawson Lampman (2008). Friends may call at the Merritt Funeral Home, 287 Station Street, Smithville on Tuesday, from 2-4 and 7-9 pm. The funeral service will be held Wednesday, October 1st, at 11 am at the funeral home. Interment Bethel cemetery , Winslow. BRUINSMA, MARTEN HARMEN: It is with profound sadness that the family of Marten Harmen Bruinsma of Smithville announce his passing on Monday, December 1, 2008. Beloved husband and partner of Atsje Bruinsma (nee De Leeuw) for 35 years. Loving Hait of Anja and Chris Lipiec, Tineke and Jeff Leech, Harmen and Sam Bruinsma, and Pamela and Christopher Hendricks. Cherished Pake of Gerrit, Kenton, Hannah, Olivia and Ronin. Marten will also be missed by best friends Ron and Nancy Van den Berg, and Kees and Nieske Poepjes in Holland. He had many friends, touched many lives and will be sadly missed and lovingly remembered. Also survived by his family in Canada and Holland. Predeceased by his parents Harmen and Trijntje Bruinsma (nee Schilstra) and Atsje's parents. Friends may call at the Merritt Funeral Home, 287 Station Street, Smithville on Friday from 5-8 pm. Loving daughter of the late Basil and Anna Castelli. Cherished mother of Mark, Joseph, Luke, Daniel, Sarina and Shayla. Dear sister of Elaine (Neil) Wielink, and Michael Castelli, and loving aunt of Michelle and Jonathan Wielink. CHASTNEY, ED: Suddenly at his home in Smithville on Saturday, January 12, 2008, Edwin James Chastney in his 65th year. Beloved husband of Jennifer Fester-Chastney. Loving father of MacKenzie, Griffyn and Braeden. Loving son of Pauline and the late Joe (James) Chastney, and son-in-law of Joan and the late Glenn Fester. Dear brother-in-law of Ingie MacKinnon. Also predeceased by his sister Eleanor MacKinnon. Forever remembered by his best friend Rob England, and his nieces and nephews. Ed was the owner and operator of Chastney Haulage, and a long-time member of IUOE #793, and Maple Leaf Gun Club. The funeral service will be held at the Smithville Christian Reformed Church (6522 Smithville Road) on Saturday, January 19, 2008 with visitation at 11:30 am and the service at 1 pm. CHARRETT, DOROTHY: At Linhaven in St. Catharines on Thursday, April 10, 2008, Dorothy Nancy Charrett (nee Bull) in her 96th year. Beloved wife of the late Gilbert Harold Charrett (1984). Loving mother of Pat and Dave Gladman. Cherished grandmother of Christine and Donald Lambert, Jennifer and Terry Downey, Heather and Wes Talon, Geoffrey Gladman and his fiancee Linda; great-grandmother of Dana (Tina) Lambert, Adam (Amanda) Lambert, Sebastian Gladman, Simon Gladman, Phillip Gladman, Jessie Gladman; and great-great-grandmother of Alissa, Dustin and Alyiah Lambert. Predeceased by her infant son Peter, and brother Robert Bull. A private family service was led by Rev. Gary Patterson on Saturday, April 12 at Merritt Funeral Home in Smithville. Cremation followed. Dear son of Thomas and the late Wellina Connolly, brother of Darlene Connolly and uncle to Darrell, Shawn and Larissa, and son-in-law of Fred and Gisela Gosé, brother-in-law of Harry Gosé, and uncle to Cristal, Michael, Ashley and Sarah. Loving mother of Anne Nie (Crooks) and the late Elton, Wallace and Susan Crooks, Doug and Cheryl Crooks, Sandra and Terry Ballantyne, and Lloyd and Annamaria Crooks. Cherished by her grandchildren Scott, Michelle, Jennifer, Jeremy, Valerie, Matthew, Christopher, Carrie-Lee, Daryl, Steven, Tyler, Ashley, James, Martin, Nicole, and great-grandchildren Brayden, Karissa, Riley, Aaron, Joshua, Dakota, Trenton and Jesse. Dear sister of Victor and June Potter, Luella and Bill Campbell, Russell and Grace Potter, and June and Gord Strickler. Predeceased by two infant children. Beloved wife of Romeo DeLangis and mother of Michael, Maurice, Michelle, Melinda and Mila. Cherished Nana of Rashell, Justin, Taylor, Crystal, Joseph, Brian, Clarke, Zackarie, Forrest, Thunder, Arrow. Shirley will be greatly missed by her brothers and sister Jean and Murray, Harry and Emelyn, Harvey and Linda, Sid and Dave. Special thanks to all the medical staff at Haldimand General Hospital that cared for her. DEWAR, MARILYN: At St. Catharines General Hospital on Saturday, January 19, 2008, Marilyn Dewar (nee Jacques) of Smithville in her 83rd year. Beloved wife for over 56 years to the late John William (Jack) Dewar (2007). Loving mother of Katharine Keizer and Sandra Dewar. Cherished by grandchildren Melanie Keizer, Jeremy Keizer (Elizabeth) and Philip Cofell. Dear sister-in-law of Chuck and Hazel Dewar of Brantford, niece Joan (Laverne) Clark of Blyth, Ontario, nephew Glen Dewar of Toronto and cousin Eric (Edna) Welton of Moncton, New Brunswick, and their families. Sadly missed by her many dear friends here and in Nova Scotia. Predeceased by her daughter Carol Ann Dewar, sister Doris Tibbetts and her parents Clyde and Edith Jacques. Marilyn was the head librarian at the Smithville Public Library which she helped create and organize for many years. She participated and volunteered in many community organizations and charities, and was a teacher at South Lincoln High School in Smithville in the 1950s. A private family service will be held on Wednesday, January 23, 2008, the one-year anniversary of her husband Jack's death. DI MAGGIO, Pio "Joe" Guiseppi Carlo Kenney. Suddenly on May 12, 2008 "Joe" passed away while travelling in Indiana. He is survived by his sons Robert & Bruno, his daughter Betina and their spouses & children. He will be sadly missed by his brothers Paul & June, Reynold & Cindy, Riccardo & Mary, Roberto & Lucia and his sister Rosanna & Burt. He will be lovingly remembered by his nieces and their families. The service will take place on Thursday, May 22 at 11:00 at the Merritt Funeral Home in Smithville. Donations in his honour can be made to the Heart & Stroke Foundation or the Royal Canadian Legion Poppy Fund.

DINGA, STEPHEN: Peacefully, at West Lincoln Memorial Hospital in Grimsby on Saturday, November 15, 2008, Stephen Dinga in his 89th year. Beloved husband of the late Emilia Dinga (January 13, 2006) for over 61 years. Loving father of Jon; Bob and Debbie; and of Ann and Murray Bering. Cherished by his granddaughter Tracy, and his grandsons Brian, Robert, Mark, Kevin, Richard and Nicholas. Brother-in-law of Jennie Dinga. Predeceased by his parents Paul and Kristina Dinga and his brother Paul Dinga. Working together, Stephen and Emilia farmed at St. Anns since 1944. EYBEL, BERNARD: It is with extreme sadness that our family announces the passing of Bernie after a valiant battle with Alzheimer's Disease. Beloved husband of Marjorie (Ptolemy). Treasured dad of Barbara (Kevin Toohey), Beverly (Bruce Misch) and Jim (Cathy). Adored grandpa of Princess Alison (Misch) and grandsons Michael and Brian Eybel. Dear brother of Cy (Helen), Len (Carol), Allen (all of Welland), Jim (Val) of Hamilton, Phyllis (John Unrau) of Smithville, Rosemarie (Dave Lampman) of North Pelham, Diane (Paul) Gerard of Fonthill, Sue (Gary Stroop) of St. Anns, and brother-in-law of Loraine Lashley of Kitchener. Predeceased by his son Douglas, and brothers Donald and John. Bernie was a long-time employee of Christie's Dairy and will forever be remembered as "Smithville's Milkman". Dear brother of Sister Paul Eugene (deceased), Elizabeth Janzen (deceased), Walter Faryna (deceased), Paul (Betty) Faryna of Edmonton, AB, Teresa Piwek of Fernie, BC, Marie Butts of Evaston, AB, and brother-in-law of Sylvia Faryna of Richmond, BC. Fondly remembered by many nieces, nephews and friends. At Gene's wish, private cremation has taken place. Also surviving is her sister Florence French and her husband Marshall of Ancaster, and her brother Frank Field of Hamilton, and many grandchildren, great-grandchildren, and great-great-grandchildren. A graveside service will be held on Thursday, October 16 at 2 pm at Kimbo cemetery , RR#1, Smithville.

Edward George Friesen
1936 - 2008
FRIESEN, Edward George It is with great sadness we announce the passing of a wonderful man, on July 27, 2008 at Joseph Brant Hospital. After a brief battle with cancer, Ed left us with his loving wife and best friend, Beverley, at his side. He will be deeply missed by his daughter Kelly and grandchildren Shane and Jamie-Lynn. Ed was a brother to Nick, Anne, Leona, Walter (Betty), Martha (Jake) and Uncle to many nieces and nephews. He has gone to join his son, Douglas (March 2008). Cremation has taken place. At Ed's request, no funeral will be held. Smile and remember his great sense of humour. In lieu of flowers, donations to the Caistorville Library would be appreciated.
