LANGLEY, LAWRENCE: At his home in Smithville, on Friday, January 27, 2006, Lawrence Edward Langley in his 77th year. Beloved husband of the late Ann Langley (nee Fraser). Loving father of Laurie Ann Langley, Thomas Langley, and of David Langley and his wife Shannon. Cherished by his grandchildren Audrie Ann, Chloe Jane and Dagen John. Dear brother of Kathleen Thompson. Predeceased by his brother Harry Langley. Lawrence was Captain of the Etobicoke Fire Department for many years, and was a long-time owner and trainer at the Fort Erie race track. He will also be missed by many friends who thought of him as a second father, and especially by his friends Guy and Gail Proteau. Cremation has taken place. A memorial service was held on Friday, February 3, 2006 at 11 am at Merritt Funeral Home, 287 Station Street, Smithville, inurnment of ashes followed at Lane Cemetery, St. Anns. If desired, memorial contributions to Welland and District Humane Society would be appreciated by the family and can be made through the funeral home.

Beloved wife of the late George Longworth (1999). Loving mother of Danny Longworth and his wife Sonia, and Jackie McGinnis and her husband the late Randy McGinnis. Cherished grandmother of Monique and her husband John Ralphs (and great-grandmother of Dylan), Clayton and Christopher Longworth, and Nikki and Billy McGinnis. Predeceased by her brothers in England. McLAREN, JANE (Jean) CARGILL nee Denny: On Saturday, December 9, 2006, at the Millennium Trail Manor, Niagara Falls, Ontario at 98 ½ years young, Jean quietly passed away. Beloved wife of the late George H. R. McLaren (1980) and loving mother of Alan (Joanne) McLaren, Margaret (Chuck) Witherington, and Douglas (Susan) McLaren. Grandmother of Kinsey McLaren, Kyle McLaren, Ryan McLaren, Charlie (Lisa) Witherington, Annette (Marko) Heitmeyer, Laura Witherington, Robin (Pierre) Trudel, and Cameron (Erica) McLaren, and great-grandmother of Justin, Crystal, Katelyn, Coral, Marina and Joshua. A long time resident of Hamilton Beach and Smithville, she was loved by all who knew her. Jean was a kind and gentle lady every day of her life. Loving mother of Maria Ongaro, and of David Ongaro and his wife Susan. Cherished grandmother of Rachel Ongaro. Dear sister of Emelia Fortuna of Italy. She will also be sadly missed by many nieces and nephews in Canada and Italy. Predeceased by her twin brother Remo, and brothers Giuseppe and Valentino, all of Italy. PARK, BRAD: Tragically, as a result of drowning at Christian Island, Big Sand Bay (Georgian Bay) on Sunday, August 6, 2006, Bradley James Ellis Park of Smithville, in his 27th year. Beloved son of Jim and Pauline Park. Loving fiancé of Jess Fenwick. Loving brother of Todd and Cindy Park and uncle to Madison and Nicholas, and loving brother of Ashley and Byron Faist and uncle to Katie. Dear grandson of Rebecca Pennell and the late Elizabeth Broomfield (2005). Brad will also be sadly missed by many aunts, uncles, cousins and friends. Prayers for the deceased were held Thursday evening, August 10 at Merritt Funeral Home. The Funeral Liturgy was celebrated at 11 am on Friday, August 11 at St. Martin of Tours' Roman Catholic Church, Smithville. Father Mathew Pendanathu officiated the service. Brad's aunt, Mary Whelan, and cousins Mary Elizabeth Grayling and Staci Rae also took part in the service. Janet Poisson was the organist. Interment at the church's adjoining cemetery. Pallbearers were Brad's brother Todd, cousins Geoff Rae, Sean Dalton, Fabian Ghaney and Michael Starks, and friends Jordan Sweeting, Chris Vanbrederode and Byron Faist. Very special thanks to the Coast Guard, OPP, Christian Island Police and those who searched the shore line along with Brad's brother Todd, his cousins and his friend Byron. PHILLIPS, OTTO (RED): Peacefully, on Wednesday, December 13, 2006, Otto (Red) Wright Phillips of St. Catharines, in his 94th year. Beloved husband of the late Helen Phillips (nee Page). Loving father of Paul Phillips (Barbara) of Petrolia, Allan Phillips (Denise) of Calgary, Patti York (Brian) of St. Catharines, Janet Delgaty of St. Catharines, and the late Mary Ellen Brunton, and father-in-law of Don Brunton. Dear brother of Helen Martin of Crystal Beach, and Bev White (Charlie) of Hamilton. Loving grandfather of 16 grandchildren and 9 great-grandchildren. Predeceased by his brothers Tiny, Jack, Fred, Dick and Ross Phillips, and sister Thelma Blackwell. Red served in WWII with the RCAF and was a member of the Royal Canadian Legion Branch 24 in St. Catharines for 62 years. John Robert Petrie

PETRIE, JOHN: It is with profound sadness we announce the sudden passing of John Robert Petrie on Thursday, April 13, 2006 at Henderson Hospital. Left to remember him is his daughter Sandy and husband Peter Morris, daughter Carol Mushing, his grandchildren John Morris and fiancée Lesley, Wendy (Morris) and husband Shawn McKune, Andrew Mushing and his great-grandchild Andrew (McKune). He is survived by one sister Sylvia Harris of Swineshead, England. Fondly remembered by Peggy Petrie and his very good companion Judie Nichols. Predeceased by four sisters Frances, Irene, Bessie and Marjorie. John was born July 29, 1925 in Ferozepore, India. He moved to England after serving as a Warrant Officer in the Indian Army from 1943 to 1947. In June 1957, he moved his family to Canada where he worked for P.B. Electronics and Otis Elevator until his retirement. Cremation has taken place upon his request. A memorial service was held at Merritt Funeral Home, 287 Station Street, Smithville on Friday, April 21. Visitation began at 10 am, and the Service followed at 11 am. In lieu of flowers, if desired a donation to the Canadian Diabetes Society or the Heart and Stroke Foundation in his name would be appreciated by the family and can be made through the funeral home.

Graydon Herbert Railton

RAILTON, GRAYDON H. Peacefully in his 85th year, Graydon's journey of life on earth ended on November 27, 2006. Left to celebrate his life are his beloved wife of nearly 60 years Phyllis (nee Merritt) of Smithville, daughter Carol and son-in-law Gordon of Richmond Hill, son Kenneth and daughter-in-law Brenda and granddaughter Sarah of Stony Plain, Alberta, brother Glenn and sister-in-law Shirley of St. Catharines, brother Donald and sister-in-law Barbara of Brampton, sister-in-law Kathleen and her husband Don of Dunnville, sister-in-law Lila of Beamsville, and many nieces and nephews. A special thank you to our wonderful neighbours, friends and family members who helped us through this journey with their visits, phone calls and many acts of kindness. We thank the dedicated personnel of the Niagara Community Palliative Care Team, and the caring staff at the West Lincoln Memorial Hospital.
