MATKIN - Samuel Gordon
Died at the North Bay General Hospital – Scollard Site, on Sunday, August 11, 2002. Samuel Gordon Matkin, was the beloved husband of the late Florence Scott, in his 68th year. Loving father of Dianne and her husband Michael Chilcott of Magrath, Alberta, Michael Matkin and his wife Ruth of North Bay and Lee-Ann Cunningham of Whitecourt, Alberta. Lovingly remembered by his grandchildren Jason, Melanie, Trista, Andrea, Carl, Alex and by his great grandson Derik. Dearly loved brother of Lynn Star of Cranbrook, British Columbia, Bea Rutledge of Lethbridge, Alberta, Kathy Momi of Stockton, California, Francis Burger of Lethbridge, Alberta and Chuck Olsen of Castlegar, British Columbia. Resting at the Martyn Funeral Home today from 11:00 am to 1:00 PM and from 7:00 to 9:00 PM. Funeral services from the Martyn Funeral Home Chapel on Wednesday August 14th, at 10:30 am. Interment to follow at St.John’s Anglican cemetery.

If desired donations to the Canadian Cancer Society or to the St.John’s Anglican Church – General Fund would be gratefully acknowledged as expression of sympathy.

SCHRAM - Jean Marie '"John"'
Died at Cassellholme, on Sunday, August 11, 2002. John Schram was in his 73rd year. Loving father of Marc and his wife Lori of North Bay. Lovingly remembered by his grandchildren Jennifer and Christopher. Predeceased by his parents Paul and Yvonne and by his twin brother Francois. John enjoyed spending time with his loving family, as well as, on hobbies such as Photography, Reading and Crossword Puzzles. He worked with Sears Canada as a Translator, then later started his own Consulting Firm. Friends may call at the Martyn Funeral Home on Wednesday from 12noon until time for Funeral Services in the Chapel at 2:00 PM. Followed by cremation with interment of ashes in the Callander Union cemetery.

JACKSON - Annie Elizabeth '"Betty" '
Peacefully on Monday August 12, 2002. Betty, beloved wife of the late Allan Jackson. Loving mother of Harold Jackson (Mary) of Ottawa, Lorna Jackson-Hall (Garry) of Sundridge, Ken Jackson (Gail) of North Bay, Tom Jackson (Cheryl) of Burlington, and Janice Jackson (Joe Rachky) of Sharon, Ontario. Dear grandmother of Paul, Cathy, Debbie, Greg, Dean, Brad, Christopher, Michael, Jordan, and Kyle. Survived by her siblings Elsie Harling of North Bay, Harvey Norman (Betty) of North Bay, Ernie Norman (Val) of Ottawa, Jean Hall of Ottawa, and Thelma McCarthy (Reg) of North Bay. Predeceased by siblings Arthur, Stan, Bill, Beatrice, Everett, Margaret, and Gordon. Friends may call at the Martyn Funeral Home on Thursday from 2-4 & 7-9 p.m. Funeral service will be held on Friday at 11 a.m. at Omond Memorial United Church. Cremation.

NICOLSON - Samuel
Peacefully on Wednesday August 14, 2002 at North Bay General Hospital-Scollard Site. Sam, beloved husband of Beryl in his 72nd year. Loving father of Elizabeth Fleury. Proud grandfather of Derek, Samantha and Nathan; great-grandfather of Aidan and MacKenzie. He will be sadly missed by his aunts Alfa Forbes and Margaret Nicolson, both of Cape Breton Island, and many nieces and nephews. Predeceased by his brother Jim Nicolson. A memorial service will be held in the Martyn Funeral Home Chapel on Saturday August 17th at 11 a.m. Cremation.

A donation to the Laurentian Wesleyan Methodist Church Building Fund would be gratefully acknowledged as expressions of sympathy.

KING - Campbell 'Cam'
In loving memory of Cam who passed away at the age of 78, after a lengthy courageous battle with cancer, at the North Bay General Hospital, Scollard Site on Wednesday, August 14, 2002. Beloved husband of Noreen Grace for 55 years. Dearly loved and respected father of son Bob (Patty) of Sudbury, son Jim (Sue) of Cambridge and daughter Shelley of North Bay. Lovingly remembered by his four grandchildren Peter, Sam, Steffanie and Robert. Dearly loved by his sister-in-law Billie (Howard) Bondett and family, his brother-in-law Ron (Jackie) Hutchinson and family and his Aunt Helen Kidd and family of New Liskeard. Predeceased by his parents Robert and Emma. Born in Sturgeon Falls on July 3, 1924, Cam moved with his parents to North Bay when he was 3 years old and made North Bay his life long home. Cam served his country joining the Navy at 17 as an able seaman on the SS Greenhill Park. Cam was employed with the Canadian Pacific Railway for 47 years following in his father's footsteps as an engineer. He spent 14 years in Toronto as a Rules Instructor before retiring to North Bay in 1984. Cam enjoyed all sports but hockey was his game. He was a star defencemen and a team member of the first Northern Ontario Hockey Association Senior "A" Championship team - North Bay Black Hawks 1948-1949. In later years Cam was a devoted member of the North Bay Sports Hall of Fame Committee (and inducted in 1995 with Team Recognition Award for the Black Hawks championship). Cam also treasured the time spent with his friends at the monthly Sportsmen luncheons. A sweet, honorable man, Cam will be sadly missed by his countless friends and by all those who knew him and whose lives he touched. We have lost a good man and dear friend. His Family and Friends may pay their respects to "Dad" at the Martyn Funeral Home on Sunday from 2:00 to 4:00 and 7:00 to 9:00 PM. Funeral Services from the Martyn Funeral Home Chapel on Monday August 19th, at 2:00 PM.

SMIRLE - Edna
Peacefully on Thursday August 15, 2002 at North Bay General Hospital-Scollard Site. Edna, beloved wife of the late Guernsey Smirle, in her 96th year. Proud and loving mother of Pauline Gilchrist (the late Bill Gilchrist) of Los Angeles, Melbourne (wife Sharon) of Scarborough, Phyllis Smirle-Muldavin of Sherman Oaks, California, Norma Smirle of North Bay, Violet (husband Mike Mansell) of Callander, Roger (wife Rita) of Haileybury, and Steven (wife Jocelyne) of Callander. Lovingly remembered by 19 grandchildren and 32 great-grandchildren. Predeceased by his son Lawrence and daughter Margaret Corbeil. Friends may call at the Martyn Funeral Home today from 2-4 & 7-9 p.m. Funeral service will be held in the Martyn Funeral Home Chapel on Saturday at 2 p.m. Interment to follow at Callander Union cemetery.

SANDOS - Jarl "Chuck"
In loving memory of Chuck who passed away at the age of 70, on Thursday August 22, 2002. He will be greatly missed by Katharyn (Kreager), his wife of 47 years; and his children Valarie of Kingston, Lynn Brown (Dave) of Cambridge, James of Kingston, and Carol Hinton (John) of Kingston. Grandpa Chuck will be sadly missed by his six grandchildren Ryan & Travis Sandos, Jordan & Mitchell Brown, and Michael & Blaire Hinton. He was the loved brother of Gunhild Johnson (Harry) of Summerland, B.C. and Shirley Gerbasi of Canmore, Alberta. Predeceased by his mother Svea and father Sanfrid Sandos. Chuck was born in Kirkland Lake and has resided in North Bay for 44 years. He served in the Royal Canadian Air Force, and was a member of Branch 23 Legion for many years. He retired from Dupont after 28 years and has been an avid woodworker since then, lovingly creating and restoring many treasures. Friends may call at Martyn Funeral Home today from 2-4 & 7-9 p.m. Funeral service will be held in the Martyn Funeral Home Chapel on Saturday at 11 a.m. Cremation.

A donation to the Northeastern Ontario Regional Cancer Research Centre would be appreciated by the family.

FLOYD - Edward John
Died at the North Bay General Hospital - Scollard Site, on Thursday August 22, 2002. Edward John Floyd, was the beloved husband of Norma Edith Biers, at the age of 77. Loving father of Nancy Floyd of Calgary. Predeceased by his daughter Debbie. Dearly loved brother of Murray Floyd and his wife Barbara of Peterborough, and brother in law of Margaret and her husband Rev. Michael Locke of Lindsay, Ron Biers and his wife Rita of Stratford and Norman Ballingall of Markham. Lovingly remembered by his many nieces and nephews. Predeceased by his parents Edward and Minnie Floyd, by his brother Harvey and by his sister in law Rhoda Ballingall. Ed served overseas with the Queen's Own Rifles of Canada, during the Second World War. Later he worked for the Nipissing Board of Education as an Assistant Plant (School) Manager. Ed was a member of the Royal Canadian Branch # 23, and formerly had received a life membership from the Branch # 599. At Ed's request there will be cremation at the Forest Lawn Crematorium, followed by a Family graveside service at the Nipissing Village cemetery.

GUERTIN-LAWRENCE - James Anthony
Beloved son of Isabel and Greg Lawrence of North Bay, and Donald Guertin of Vancouver passed away suddenly at his home in Guelph on August 25th, in his 32nd year. James is also survived by his sister and brother-in law Melanie and Yvon (Frank) Poitras and niece Brianna Poitras, all of North Bay. Visitation at the Martyn Funeral Home, Thursday August 29, 2:00-4:00 and 7:00-8:00 PM with Funeral Service at 8:00 PM in the Martyn Chapel. Cremation to follow. .

ROBERTSON - Jean
Died at Cassellholme on Wednesday August 28, 2002. Jean Robertson was the beloved wife of the late David Robertson. Loving mother of Judy and her husband Bill Szumik of North Bay and Peter Robertson and his wife Jane of Elora. Lovingly remembered by her grandchildren Erin (Jason), David, Sarah, Kristin, Michael (Barb), Jennifer and great grandson Jack. Dearly loved sister of Pat Hull of North Bay and sister-in-law of Tom Robertson of Montreal. Predeceased by her parents Thomas and Mary Jane Hunter, her sister Marjorie and brothers Graydon and Jack. A private family memorial service was held today in the Martyn Funeral Home. Cremation at the Forest Lawn Crematorium.

ZUFELT - Jeanne G.
After a lengthy illness at the North Bay General Hospital, Scollard Site on Sunday September 1, 2002 in her 87th year. Dear wife of the late Lester G. Zufelt and loving mother of Dianne Zufelt of North Bay. Sadly missed by her sisters Dorothy Beattie (Fred) and Bette Harris (Roy) of North Bay and Irene Candy (Austin) of Richmond, B.C. Fondly remembered by many nieces and nephews. Jeanne was a member of the Esperanza Club and was also a volunteer for Meals on Wheels from its founding in North Bay. A memorial service for Jeanne will be held at the Martyn Funeral Home chapel on Tuesday at 2 pm. Following cremation her ashes will be interred with her husband at the Terrace Lawn cemetery.

SINCLAIR - Dr. Robert Alexander
Dr. Robert Alexander Sinclair, beloved and caring husband, father, grandfather, brother, friend, and family physician died on September 3rd, 2002, while vacationing in Greece. He was surrounded by his wife, Stella, and many friends. Dr. Sinclair was born in North Bay on March 2nd, 1931. He attended King George Public School, North Bay Collegiate Institute and Vocational School, and The University of Toronto where he obtained his degree in medicine. He was very proud of having had the opportunity to practice medicine with both his father, K. Y. Sinclair and his brother, David. He loved his patients and enjoyed his medical career for over 40 years - being able to touch so many lives was gratifying to him. Both his colleagues and patients recognized his devotion - he saw his patients as part of his family. He was an amazing man with a great sense of humour and a kind and gentle manner. Bob was an avid skier and fisherman. He enjoyed the outdoors, especially Lake Nipissing sunsets, tinkering at his cottage on the French River, and visiting the "Camp" in Sturgeon Falls. Above all, he enjoyed being with his loving wife and surrounded by his family and friends. Bob, Dad, Grandpa, Uncle Bob, and Dr. Bob will be sadly missed and remembered for his love and compassion. Friends may call at the Martyn Funeral Home, 464 Wyld St. on Wednesday evening, September 11, from 7:00 to 9:00 p.m. and Thursday September 12, from 2:00 to 4:00 & 7:00 to 9:00 p.m. Funeral services will be held at Calvin Presbyterian Church, on Friday September 13th at 2:00 p.m. Interment will follow in Terrace Lawn cemetery.

Bob knew the value of a close family and taught all he knew love and forgiveness. He was the loving husband of Stella (Fouriezos) and adored father of Bobby and Kelly Sinclair, Cathy and Dave Bull, Dia and Bill Fox, and Cindy and Spiros Comitos. He will be fondly remembered by his grandchildren Robert, Jamie, Katie, and Gillian Fox, Jaret and Jaimee Bull, and Anthony Comitos. He is also survived by his loving brother Dr. David Sinclair and wife Dr. Shirley Korman, aunt Vicki Tuovi, many cousins, including special cousin Nancy Sinclair, and dear inlaws Bette Cohn (late Nicholas Fouriezos), Homer Fouriezos, Angie and Norm Grenier, Charles Fouriezos QC (late Carolyn), Kathy and Steve Annas, and Dede Sinclair. He was the cherished "Uncle Bob" to many nieces and nephews. Bob was predeceased by his father, Dr. K. Y. Sinclair, his mother, Alma (Aiken), and his brother, Ken.

TURTON - William (Bill) Geoffrey
After a lengthy illness and with his family by his side, on Thursday September 5, 2002 at the age of 68 years. Bill was the beloved husband, for the past 44 years, of Margaret Barnett. Proud and loving father of David (Lori) of Brantford, Cheryl Sprague (Gary) of Ottawa and Linda Dunham (Chris) of Carlisle. Lovingly remembered by his grandchildren Brad, Stacey, Kiana, Jessica, Alanna, Kyle, and Dylan. An avid flyer Bill at one time piloted world-wide for Spartan Air Services Ltd., an aerial survey company. In 1961 he came to North Bay as an air traffic controller and remained at the North Bay Airport until his retirement in 1993, during which time he instructed and flew privately. He continued to enjoy his love of flying as an active and dedicated radio controlled model airplane enthusiast ( a member of NIPMAC). Friends may call at the Martyn Funeral Home on Saturday September 7th from 1:00 - 3:00 p.m. Funeral services will be held in the chapel at 3:00 p.m. Cremation will follow.

Suddenly at the North Bay General Hospital - Scollard Site, on Tuesday, September 10, 2002 at 43 years of age. Rene was the loving husband of Phylis. Devoted father to his dear children Josh of Toronto and Shaina at home. Beloved son of Remi and Francoise Lefebvre of Hull, Quebec. Dearly loved brother of Bob and his wife Kathy, Dan and his wife Peggi and Johanne and her partner Guy. Resting at the Martyn Funeral Home on Thursday from 2:00 to 4:00 and 7:00 to 9:00 PM. Funeral Services from the South Shore Evangelical Missionary Church (1892 Wasi Road Callander) on Friday, September 13th at 10:30 am. Interment at Callander Union cemetery.
