Dorothy Mabel Payne

1919 - 2003

Suddenly at the Brockville General Hospital surrounded by her family on July 25, 2003 in her 84th year. Beloved wife of Mansel (Mac) Payne. Dear mother of Donna Eaton (Dave) of Brockville and Sharon Campbell (Earl) of Lyn. Sadly missed by two grandchildren Kim Lamer (Gary) and Duane Campbell (Tracy), and three great grandchildren Kyle and Rachel Campbell and Brandon Lamer. Dear sister of Eleanor Alkerton (George), and Gerald Elliott all of Brockville. Also survived by several nieces and nephews. Predeceased by a grandson Rick McCombie, brothers Robert, Ronald, Harry and Harold Elliott, sister Violet Stewart, a sister-in-law Georgette Elliott, and by a brother-in-law Hugh Stewart.

Family and friends may pay their respects at the Irvine Funeral Home and Chapel, 4 James Street East, Brockville on Sunday from 2-4 and 7-9 pm and on Monday from 2-4 and 7-9 pm. A celebration of Dorothy's life will be held in the chapel on Tuesday at 1:30pm. Interment will follow at Roselawn Memorial Gardens, Maitland. In memoriums to the Heart and Stroke Foundation, The Diabetes Association, Hospice of Providence Palliative Care Service or the Brockville General Hospital will be gratefully acknowledged.

John Marks

1918 - 2003

On Monday, July 28, 2003 at the Brockville General Hospital at the age of 85 years. Beloved husband of Betty (Haygarth) Marks of Brockville. Loving father of Linda Miller (Barry) of Montreal, and Stephen Marks (Nicole) of St. Sauveur. Dear grandfather of Raymond (Susan), Kim (Kosta), Darren (Jennifer), Vicky (Frank), and Joey (Angie). Fondly remembered by his great grandchildren Alexander, Rylan, Chantelle, Shannon, Caitlin, Zachary, Samantha, Joshua, Amanda, Sean, George, Lucas, Julia, Shane and Ryan. Predeceased by his brothers and sisters.

Family and friends may pay their respects at the Roselawn Tribute Centre, 2451 County Road 15, Maitland, on Thursday, July 31st from 1-3 and 5-7pm. A service in celebration of John's life will take place at 7pm Thursday in the Roselawn Chapel. Cremation and interment to follow at Roselawn Memorial Gardens. In remembrance donations to the War Amps will be gratefully acknowledged. Officers and Members of the Royal Canadian Legion. Branch 96 are requested to gather for the Legion Tribute on Thursday at 6:45pm at the Roselawn Tribute Centre.

Mabel Tanner

1920 - 2003

Peacefully at the Kingston General Hospital on Thursday, July 31, 2003. Beloved wife of Charles Tanner of Brockville. Loving mother of Bruce Tanner (Diana) of Ottawa and Carolyn Tanner of Vancouver, B.C. Dear grandmother of Alexis, Joshua and Jacob. Sister of Dorothy McLarty of Sault St. Marie.

Family and friends may pay their respects at the Irvine Funeral Home and Chapel, 4 James Street East, Brockville on Saturday after 12:30 pm until 2:30 pm when a celebration of Mabel's life will be held in the chapel. Cremation will follow at the Roselawn Tribute Centre and Crematorium, Maitland. In remembrance, donations to the Canadian Cancer Society or the Heart and Stroke Foundation Would be gratefully acknowledged.

Miriam Helen Houston

1923 - 2003

On Saturday, August 9, 2003 at the St. Vincent de Paul Hospital, Brockville, at the age of 80 years. Beloved wife of Leslie I. Houston of Brockville. Loving mother of Brian of Hong Kong and David of Ottawa. Fondly remembered by grandchildren Alex and Emily. Also survived by her brother Doug Wilkinson of England and by six nieces and nephews. Predeceased by her sister Margaret of England. A native of Angmering, Sussex, England, Mrs. Houston served during World War II with the WRNS at HMS Excellent. She and her husband, of the Canadian Army, married in Farnham. England in 1943. In 1946 the couple established their home in Montreal where they lived until retiring to Brockville in 1985.

Private arrangements have been entrusted to the Irvine Funeral Home and Chapel, with cremation to take place at the Roselawn Crematorium, Maitland. In remembrance, donations to the Canadian Cancer Society will be gratefully acknowledged.

Hilda Adeline Towns

1920 - 2003

At Maple View Lodge, Athens on August 10, 2003 in her 84th year. Beloved wife of the late William Towns. Dear mother of Brad and his wife Brenda of Athens. Loving grandmother of Benjamin and his wife Susan, Nicholas and Alexander Towns. Also survived by a number of nieces and nephews and by a sister-in-law Erma Marshall. Predeceased by sisters Norma Runnalls, and Grace Smith and by brothers Arnold and Ivan Marshall.

Family and friends may pay their respects at the Irvine Funeral Home and Chapel, 4 James Street East Brockville from Tuesday after 12 noon until 2 pm when services will be held in the Chapel. Interment will follow at Glen Elbe Cemetery. In memoriams to Heart and Stroke Foundation, The Diabetes Society or Habitat for Humanity will be gratefully acknowledged.

Jerzy Franciszek "George" Widzinski

1924 - 2003

World War II Veteran having served with the Military Police of the Polish Army, stationed in England and affiliated with the 8th British Army; former owner of Aurea Smoke Shop and retired DuPont Canada Employee. Peacefully at St. Vincent de Paul Hospital, Brockville on Friday, August 15, 2003 at the age of 79 years. Sadly missed by the love of his life Aurea May (Honey) Widzinski. Loving father of Anna Hone (Michael) of Ottawa, Georgina Widzinski of Vancouver, Ian Widzinski (Laurie) of Athens, and Susanna Greene (Bill) of Sewickley, PA. Fondly remembered by his grandchildren Michael Hone (Kim), Chris Hone (Rhonda), Stephen Hone (Christine), Eric, Natasha and Rachel Widzinski, Gordon, Kristina, Alexander and Robert-Ian Greene; and by great grandchildren Cody, Sophie, Kyle and Anthony. Also survived by his sister Urszula Lorenzo of Germany. Predeceased by his father Jakob and his mother Anna Krause, his brother Zbigniecw and sister Ceycylia.

Stella Shipman

1915 - 2003

At the Brockville General Hospital on August 17, 2003 in her 89th year. Beloved wife of the late Rosevelt Shipman and Leo Liston. Dear mother of Marlene Snell (Ted) of Belleville, Joan Lang (Norm) of Toronto, Michael Liston (Joanne) of Brockville, Frank Liston (Carolyn) of Rocksprings and Cathy Peer and her husband John Roddick of Brockville. Also survived by 14 grandchildren and 9 great grandchildren. Also survived by 7 step-children. Predeceased by a daughter Theressa Welter and by two brothers and three sisters.

Family and friends may pay their respects at the Irvine Funeral Home and Chapel, 4 James Street East Brockville on Tuesday from 2-4 and 7-9 pm. The Liturgy of the Christian Funeral will be celebrated at St. Francis Xavier Church on Wednesday at 10 am. Interment will follow at St. Francis Cemetery. In memoriams to the Parkinson's Foundation or the Cancer Society will be gratefully acknowledged. Member of the C. W. L. will gather on Tuesday at 3 pm for the recitation of the Rosary.

Herbert Gordon Metcalfe, B.Sc. (McGill),
M.D. (Queens 1951), F.R.C.S. (C.)

1922 - 2003

The family of Herb Metcalfe announces with sadness his death early in the morning of July 29, 2003 at the Palliative Care unit of the
St. Vincent de Paul Hospital, Brockville.

Herb was born in Aylmer, Quebec, the youngest son to Herb and Lucy Metcalfe in 1922. Returning to Aylmer after his medical training, he and Shirley raised a family and enjoyed many good friendships there. Herb's years in medical practice in Ottawa brought him many more friendships. He loved traveling, which introduced him to more life-long friends from around the world. Shirley and Herb retired to Brockville twenty years ago.

Herb is survived by his beloved wife, Shirley (née Fletcher) and their three children, Cameron (Karen Lowther), Peter (Kathy Woods), and Sarah (Ken Stasiak). Loved Granddad to Kris Metcalfe, Stefan Stasiak,
and Drew and Graham Metcalfe.

Our thanks to Dr. Don Brooks and the caregivers at
St. Vincent's and the General.

In celebration of Herb's life a ceremony will be held in the Irvine Chapel on Friday at 12 noon, with a gathering to follow in the Irvine Reception Centre. Interment at a later date at Malvern Cemetery, Lennoxville, PQ. In remembrance donations to the Hospice of Providence Palliative Care Program will be gratefully acknowledged.

Bruce Heaslip

1925 - 2003

Suddenly at the Brockville General Hospital on July 30, 2003 in his 78th year. Beloved husband of the late Sadie McCulley Heaslip. Dear father of Cheryl Ann Tigchelaar and her husband Gordon of Centreville and David Heaslip at home. Loving grandfather of Rebecca and Kayla. Brother of Rev. Clifford Heaslip of Winnipeg, Elaine Hall (Howard) of Gananoque, Marjorie Running (Leslie) of Lansdowne and Marie Nevers (Handy) of Brockville. Brother-in-law of Ford Horton of Gananoque. Also survived by several nieces and nephews. Predeceased by a sister Lorna Horton.

Family and friends may pay their respects at the Irvine Funeral Home and Chapel, 4 James Street East, Brockville from Friday 2-4 and 7-9 pm and on Saturday at the Highway Pentecostal Church from 10am until 11 am when funeral services will be held. Interment will follow at Union Cemetery, Lansdowne. In memoriams to the Highway Pentecostal Church Memorial Fund, the Lung Association or The Gideon's will be gratefully acknowledged.
