Johnston S. Watson

1930 - 2004

Peacefully on Sunday, January 25, 2004 at the home of son Fred and daughter-in-law Marilyn who were by his side; Johnston Stewart Watson at the age of 73 years. Beloved husband of the late June (Plunkett) Watson who predeceased him in 2001. Loving father of John (Judy) of Kingston, Judy Shaw (Mike), of Hamilton, Doug Watson (Heather) of Gananoque, Debbie Selleck (Calvin) of Spencerville, Ron Watson of Algonquin, Rick Watson (Kim) of Kingston, Susan Buchanan (Ian) of Harrowsmith, Bob Watson (Roberta) of Johnstown, Fred Watson (Marilyn) of Brockville, and Sandra Heyman (Bert) of Maitland. Fondly remembered by 18 grandchildren and 13 great grandchildren. Dear brother of Lorraine Williams, Lloyd, Henry, Edward and David Watson, Diane Towe and Eva Beckstead. Also survived by several nieces and nephews. Predeceased by infant daughter Trudy in 1966, by parents Robert Somers Watson and Margaret May Edgeley, by brothers John, Roderick, Bernard (Bud), and Donald, and by a sister Frances.

Family and friends may pay their respects at the Irvine Funeral Home and Chapel, 4 James Street East, Brockville on Tuesday from 2-4 and 7-9pm. In celebration of Johnston's life, services will be held in the Irvine Chapel on Wednesday at 11:30am with Pastor Phil Phillips of the Maynard Pentecostal Church officiating. Burial in the spring at St. James Cemetery, Maitland. In remembrance, donations to the Cancer Society or the Heart and Stroke Foundation will be gratefully acknowledged.

Ronald Patrick Lamothe

1957 - 2004

Passed away at the Brockville General Hospital on Wednesday, January 28, 2004 at the age of 47 years. Ron will be sadly missed by his mother Iona and her husband John Pattemore of Elizabethtown. Cherished brother of Wallace Lamothe of Edmonton, Donna and her husband Ralph Metlin of St. Catharines, Gary Lamothe and Richard Lamothe and his wife Tina all of Brockville. Fondly remembered by many aunts, uncles, nieces, nephews and cousins. Predeceased by his nephew Michael Lamothe.

Family and friends may pay their respects at the Irvine Funeral Home and Chapel, 4 James Street East, Brockville on Friday from 2-4 & 7-9 pm. A celebration of Ron's life will be held in the Chapel on Saturday at 11 am followed by interment at Roselawn Memorial Gardens, Maitland. Donations to the Canadian Cancer Society would be gratefully acknowledged.

Officers and members of the Royal Canadian Legion Br. 96, will gather for a Legion tribute on Friday at 6:45 pm.

Madeline Aurelia (Madge) O'Grady

1928 - 2004

At the St. Vincent de Paul Hospital on January 29, 2002 at the age of 76 years. Daughter of the late Leonard and Genevieve O'Grady. Dear sister of Kathleen Monahan of Kingston, Theresa Brigden of Bramalea, Genevieve (Jenny) O'Grady of Brockville, Joan Smith of Georgetown, Patrick O'Grady of Brockville and Margaret Rose Hawken of Burlington. Also survived by a number of nieces and nephews. Predeceased by three brothers Joseph, John and Gerald O'Grady and by two sisters Loretta McGuire and Justina O'Grady.

Family and friends may pay their respects at the Irvine Funeral Home and Chapel, 4 James Street East, Brockville on Friday from 2-4 and 7-9pm. The Liturgy of the Christian Funeral will be celebrated at St. Francis Xavier Church on Saturday at 1 o'clock. Interment will follow at St. Francis Xavier Cemetery. In memoriams to the Hospice of Providence Palliative Care will be gratefully acknowledged. Members of the Catholic Women's League will gather at the funeral home for the recitation of the Rosary on Friday at 3 o'clock.

Peke Bangma

1919 - 2004

Entered into the Kingdom of Heaven, surrounded by his family at the St. Vincent de Paul Hospital on Thursday, January 29, 2004 at the age of 84. Beloved husband of Pietronella (Nellie) Bangma. Loving father of Ken (Gloria), Grietje (John Feenstra), Wiesje (Arnold Stadig), Geesje (Rick Vander Woude), Henry (Lesley), Henny (Harold Feenstra), Fred (Dianna), Bill (Elaine), Pete (Kris), Jeff (Ellen), Rod (Sharrol), and Pamela (Rick Lewis). Fondly remembered by 32 grandchildren and 26 great grandchildren. Also survived by four sisters, Willemkje, Annigtje, Grietje and Hendrikje. Predeceased by a daughter Geesje, , a sister Trynkje and brothers Siebren, Albert and Jelle.

A private funeral service will be held at the Irvine Funeral Home and Chapel, 4 James Street East, Brockville with interment to follow at Roselawn Memorial Gardens, Maitland. There will be no visitation. In remembrance, donations to the Bible League will be gratefully acknowledged.

George Weldon Cornforth

1923 - 2004

World War II Veteran, R.C.A.F.

At the Brockville General Hospital on Friday, February 6, 2004 after a lengthy struggle with Parkinson's disease; George Weldon Cornforth at the age of 80. Beloved husband of Jean of Mallorytown. Loving father of Lynn (Wayne Amyotte), Lesley (Henry Bangma) all of Mallorytown, and Tracey Cornforth of London. Fondly remembered by his grandchildren Shannon, Amanda, Jacinda, James, David, Erin and Melissa. Dear brother of Thelma, Verta, Verna, Earl, Ada and Rhoda. Predeceased by his parents Henry and Grace Cornforth, and his sisters Rita and Lena.

Family and friends are invited to a ceremony in celebration of George's life at 1 o'clock on Tuesday, February 10th to be held at the Irvine Funeral Home and Chapel, 4 James Street East, Brockville. As there will be no visitation, the family will receive friends at a reception to followat the Centennial Road Standard Church.. Interment in the spring at Oak Leaf Cemetery. In remembrance, donations to the Parkinson's Society will be gratefully acknowledged.

Diane Barnard

1937 - 2004

Entered into rest at the Providence Continuing Care Centre, Brockville, Ont. on Monday March 8, 2004 with family by her side. The former Diane Mary Wood at the age of 66 years. Dear mother of Deborah A. Monette (David) of Hamilton, Raymond John Barnard (Claire Wardlow Barnard) of Mildmay, Ont., and Anthony David Barnard (Sheila) of Orleans, Ont. Fondly remembered by her grandchildren David and Rachelle Monette, Nichole and Petra Barnard, Chet and Chelsea Barnard. Sister of Richard John Wood of Tobermory and Robert Harold Wood of Minden. Survived and dearly missed by George Ross of Brockville and several nieces and nephews.

At the request of Diane Barnard a private family visitation and service will be held on Thursday, March 11th at the Irvine Funeral Home and Chapel, 4 James Street East, Brockville. Following the funeral service, a Committal Service and cremation will take place at Roselawn Tribute Centre and Crematorium, Maitland with interment of cremated remains at Roselawn Memorial Gardens on Friday, March 12th.

In remembrance, donations to the Hospice of Providence Long Term Care unit for patient comforts would be gratefully acknowledged.

Catherine Ellen Gilligan

1911 - 2004

Peacefully at Sherwood Park Manor, Brockville on Tuesday, March 16, 2004 in her 93rd years. Beloved wife of the late Garnet Gilligan. Loving mother of Richard Gilligan (Jan) of Brockville. Dear grandmother of Patrick Gilligan (Kim) of Spencerville, Tim Gilligan (Anita) of Cardinal, and Jane MacDonald of Smiths Falls; and step-grandmother of Terri Dougall (Steven) of Pickering and Tom Anderson of Kingston. Fondly remembered by nine great grandchildren. Mrs. Gilligan was the daughter of the late Catherine and Richard Lyman and was also predeceased by her sister Isobel Gaylord and her brother Angus Lyman

Family and friends may call at the Irvine Funeral Home and Chapel, 4 James Street East, Brockville on Thursday from 11am - 1pm. The Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at St. Francis Xavier Church on Thursday at 1:30pm. Interment will take place at Sacred Heart Cemetery, Cardinal. In remembrance, donations to Sherwood Park Manor or the Canadian Cancer Society will be gratefully acknowledged.

Robert Montagu Powell

1914 - 2004

In Brockville, Ontario on Wednesday, March 17, 2004 in his 90th year. Beloved husband for 65 years of Louise Dewar Powell. Cherished father of Susan (Thomson) and Mayo (Graham), both of Ottawa. He also will be greatly missed by grandchildren Martha Joslin, Robert Thomson, Ana and Zoe Yuristy. Eldest son of the late M. Grant Powell and Aurelia C. Hughson (Rockcliffe Park). Attentive brother to Anne (Toronto) and the late Hugh and Alan. Bob graduated from Trinity College School, Port Hope, from the Royal Military College, Kingston (Head Cadet, B.S.M. 1934-35), and from the University of Toronto. He served in the Royal Canadian Navy from 1939 until the end of WWII, latterly as Commanding Officer of the HMCS Belleville. He was employed as a chemical engineer with CIL/DuPont Canada for more than thirty years in Shawinigan, Montreal, Windsor, Texas and Brockville. A gentle-man of integrity, generosity, wry wit, intelligence and strength, he believed in honouring the natural environment and providing for those less fortunate. These acts of belief and kindness will be remembered in his work with St. Peter's Church, Sherwood Park Manor, the CNIB, the United Way, conservation authorities and environmental groups in the Brockville area. Bob passed on to his children and grandchildren his love of nature and adventure. He lived a truly selfless and courageous life, most recently in supporting his dear wife through this past decade of her loss of memory. Bob's family is grateful to the wonderful staff of St. Lawrence Lodge for their care and kindness. RIP

A celebration of his life will be held at one o'clock Saturday, March 20 at St. Peter's Anglican Church (corner of Pine and Park Streets, Brockville). Interment will follow at St. Peter's (Oakland) Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, donations in his memory to the Sierra Club of Canada, or the Primate's World Relief and Development Fund would be appreciated by the family.

Gerald Douglas Butcher

1940 - 2004

It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of Gerry suddenly at his home in Spencerville, on Saturday, April 3, 2004; Gerald Douglas Butcher, formerly of Brockville at the age of 63 years. Beloved husband of Carol (Shannon) Butcher. Loving father of Dionne and her husband Tom Fournier of Maitland and step father of Colleen Shannon, Glenn Shannon (Joy), and Michael Shannon (Christine). Fondly remembered by his loving grandchildren Jillian, Hailey, Logan, Jarett and Alexis. Survived by his twin brother Jack (Judy) of Belleville and brothers Robert (Wanda) of Belleville, Ted (Carol) of Brockville, and Donald (Carol) of B.C.; by his sister Karen Locke (Tom) of Bramalea, his sister-in-law Barb Butcher of B.C., and brother-in-law Fred Dainton of Birds Creek, Ontario as well as by several nieces and nephews. Predeceased by his sister Erma Dainton and his brother Curwood Butcher.

In celebration of Gerald's life the funeral service will be held at St. Andrew's Presbyterian Church, Spencerville, on Tuesday at 2 o'clock. Interment at a later date at St. Andrew's Cemetery. In remembrance, donations to the Heart and Stroke Foundation or charity of your choice will be gratefully acknowledged.

Director of Nursing, Brockville General Hospital, 1949-1981.
Recipient of the Order of Canada.

Passed away peacefully at St. Vincent de Paul Hospital on Wednesday, February 25, 2004 at the age of 87 years. Daughter of the late Francis and Hannah Estella Preston. Loving sister of Mary (Mrs. Harold Colbert) of Delta and predeceased by her sister Orla (Mrs. Arthur Robinson). Loved and cherished aunt of Beverley (Colbert) Wallis and husband Donald of Gananoque, James Colbert and wife Janice of Toronto, and Donna (Robinson) Dériger and husband Alan of Ottawa. Fondly remembered by her great niece and nephews Scott, Greg and Trevor Wallis, Jade and Jason Colbert, and Preston Dériger; and by great-great nieces Natasha and Abby Wallis and Katelyn Wallis. Respected and admired by many dear friends.

In celebration of Miss Preston's life a memorial service will be held at Wall Street United Church on Saturday at 2 o'clock. In remembrance, donations to the charity of choice, the Memorial Fund of the Nurses' Alumnae Association of Brockville General Hospital, or the Wall Street United Church Memorial Fund will be gratefully acknowledged. Members of the Beta Sigma Phi Sorority are requested to gather for a memorial service at the funeral home on Friday at 6:30pm.
