Rundle, Fern 1929-2010

It is with great sadness that the family announces Fern’s peaceful passing on January 24, 2010, in her 81st year. Fern is survived by Bob, her beloved husband of 59 years. Loving mother to Joyce Morrison and her husband Ric, Karen Lape and her husband Bill. Proud grandmother to Kristin, Darrell and his wife Brittnay and thrilled to be a great grandmother to their son Jack. Fern will be remembered fondly by a multitude of other family members, neighbors and friends, especially her “2nd” family, the Shields clan. Special thanks to the wonderful staff of E3 at St. Peter’s, for their loving care and kindness. Many thanks to the wonderful staff and doctors at the Juravinski Cancer Centre for their compassion and care over the past 5 years. Cremation has already taken place. Per Fern’s wishes, a “Party” Celebrating her Life will be held at BAY GARDENS FUNERAL HOME – “William J Markey Chapel”, 947 Rymal Road E., HAMILTON (905.574.0405) on Saturday, February 6, 2010 at 1 p.m. Please bring a favorite picture and or memory of Fern to share with family and friends as we enjoy a “bite” and a drink while celebrating her life. In lieu of flowers donations to either St. Peter’s Foundation or the Juravinski Cancer Centre, would be appreciated by the family.

Runion (nee Hunt), Eileen 1920-2008

After a short illness, we sadly announce the passing of Eileen at the Henderson General Hospital, Hamilton, on Tuesday, November 25, 2008. Beloved wife of the late Reg (1994). She will be remembered with love and laughter by her daughter and son-in-law Geraldine and Ken Tregunno of Dundas, and her cherished grandsons, Jeremy Kowalyshyn of Calgary and Brett Tregunno of Peterborough. Predeceased by her sister Lillian and brothers Stanley and Russell. Eileen will be fondly remembered by her many friends including those at the Sackville Seniors Centre and the Royal Canadian Legion. Sincerest thanks to the staff on 2nd Floor Rehab for their wonderful care during her stay. Also thanks to Cindy and Chrissy in ICU for their support. Cremation has taken place. A Memorial Service to celebrate Eileen’s life will be held at St. John United Church, 195 East 38th Street (at Queensdale Ave.), Hamilton on Monday, December 1, 2008 at 11 a.m. Arrangements entrusted to BAY GARDENS FUNERAL HOME, Burlington (905-527-0405).

Rushton, Bernard (Bernie) 1934-2009

Peacefully surrounded by his family on Friday, September 4, 2009. Best friend and loving husband of Margaret. Devoted father of Lynne (Larry), Julie (Don) and Lee (Marie). Predeceased by his son Andrew. Cherished Papa of Chanel (Howie), Riley, Amanda, Reed, Brooke, Nigel, Elisha, Liam and Jacob. Precious brother of Stephen (Patricia). Uncle to Dean and Tracy (Ray). Missed by family and friends in England and Canada. Long standing member of Legion #163. Thank you to all staff at the Henderson General Hospital. Rutherford, Catherine Brown 1952-2009

After a long and courageous battle with cancer, Cathie peacefully passed away, surrounded by loved ones at the age of 57 on Thursday, December 10th, 2009. Cathie will be missed by her devoted husband of 36 years, John. A loving mother to Stephanie (Chris Blunsdon), son Mark, and a doting Grandma to Aiden. Daughter of Martha Hall and big sister to Ann, June, and Mandy. Special friend and niece to Sally and Bill Hogg. Will be missed by friends Judi, Carol, Marie, Lorna, and Susan. She will be missed by extended family, friends in Canada and Scotland. Cathie cherished her time as a lunchroom supervisor for the HWDSB and then as a PSW - and friendly fixture - at Macassa Lodge. Cathie spent her life helping others, with a genuine spirit and her infectious smile. She definitely lived a hundred lives in a very short time. Deepest thanks to Dr. S. Yu, Dr. Tozer, Dr. Bertothy, the amazing staff at Juruvinski, Henderson Ward E3 and all of the “angels” at Dr. Bob Kemp Hospice – where Cathie had a beautiful end to a beautiful life. Rutka, Glenda 1956-2009

Suddenly, after a lengthy illness, at Oakville Trafalgar Hospital on Tuesday, September 8, 2009 at the age of 53. Darling wife of Frank. Loving daughter of Gertrude and the late George. Cherished sister of Carol (Paul), Gerald, and David (Yolanda). Adored aunt of Lori (Kevin), Sara, James, Sean, Josie and Nick and great-aunt of Isis and Aries. Will also be remembered by many other family and friends. A Gathering will take place at BAY GARDENS FUNERAL HOME, 1010 Botanical Drive (across from the Royal Botanical Gardens) BURLINGTON (905-527-0405) on Friday, September 11, 2009 from 2-4 p.m. Cremation has taken place. Memorial donations are greatly appreciated by the family and may be made to the National Ovarian Cancer Association.

Beloved husband of Felicia. Loving father of Angela Borgatti (Kevin) and Domenico (Dianne). Cherished nonno of Michael, Andrew and Alyssa. Much loved brother of Lina (predeceased – Mario), Maria, Anna (Enzo) and Andrea (Concetta). Loving brother in law of Maria (Peter) and Lillian (David).

Will be forever remembered by many nieces, nephews and friends. Frank’s kind and gentle nature and generosity will be lasting memories to all. Frank was a long time employee and recent retiree of Dofasco

Special thanks to the paramedics and emergency staff for their care and support.

It is with great sadness to announce the passing of Theresa after a courageous battle with cancer, on Tuesday, October 26, 2010 at the age of 55. Cherished wife and high school sweetheart of Peter Salemi for 34 years. Adored Mother and Mother in-law of Joseph and Dawn, Robert and Natelcia, Julia and Rory McMillan. Dearest sister and sister in-law of Michelle and Grant Brooks, Susan Lee, Steve Pearce, Joanne and Bill Fiorillo, Lena and John Rekiel, Alfonso Salemi and Anne-Marie Ortenzi, uncle Roy O’Grady. Loving daughter of the late William and Helen Pearce. Daughter in-law of Guiseppina and the late Guiseppe Salemi. Much loved aunt of Sasha and Wayne, Brandon, Elizabeth, AJ, Stephanie, Marisa, Nicole, Johnny, Marc, Kristina and Josh. Sister in-law of the late Louise Salemi. As per the wishes of Theresa, cremation has taken place. Visitation at BAY GARDENS FUNERAL HOME – “William J. Inurnment to follow at Our Lady of the Angels Cemetery on Stoney Creek Mountain. Donations to the Juravinski Cancer Center or to the Canadian Red Cross would be appreciated by the family.

SAMS, Genie (nee Cassels)

Genie passed away suddenly at home on Sunday August 29, 2010, after a short but brave battle with cancer. She was predeceased by her loving companion and husband of 56 years Lee on September 10th, 2008.

She is survived by her son Steven (Donna) of Wilton, Connecticut and her daughter Margo (James Mundle) of Burlington. She will be sadly missed by her three grandchildren, Michael (Nicole) and Michelle Sams and Heather Mundle. Genie is also survived by her brother Craig Cassels of Toronto.

The family would like to thank the nurses, doctors and caregivers for all their kindness and support.

Cremation has taken place and at Genie’s request there will be no funeral service.

In lieu of flowers, please consider a donation to The Burlington Humane Society – formerly Animal Aid or the Canadian Cancer Society.

Sams, Henry "Lee" 1929-2008

Lee was a loving companion and husband to Genie (nee Cassels) for 56 years. He passed away at the Carpenter Hospice on Wednesday September 10th after a courageous battle with cancer. Along with his wife, Lee is survived by his son Steven (Donna) of Wilton, Connecticut and daughter Margo (Jim Mundle) of Burlington. He will be sadly missed by his three grandchildren, Michael (Nicole) and Michelle Sams and Heather Mundle.

Lee enjoyed life and loved to make people laugh. Some of his happiest times were spent sailing with his son and crew aboard their boat “Sandstorm”. He loved to race and he liked to win. Over the years he acquired a strong work ethic. He ran a small company along with the help of this daughter and he kept at it until almost the end.

The family wishes to thank the nurses, doctors and caregivers for all their kindness and help. Cremation has taken place and at Lee’s request there will be no funeral service. In lieu of flowers, please consider a donation to the Carpenter Hospice. Please sign the online Book of Condolence.

With great sadness on February 25, 2009 at the age of 67. Beloved husband of the late Patricia (nee Wylie) Sanders. Loving father of Allison and David Montgomery and Grant and Mary Lynn Sanders. Cherished Petje to Olivia, Dana, Kaitlyn, Christiane and Madelyn. Brother to Jeff and Flo Sanders and Fernanda and Lucien Jooris of Burlington. Dear friend of Donna Hawkins of Simcoe.
