Hodd, Kenneth Baker 1920-2008

We will truly miss our dear Kenn, who in his 88th year passed away peacefully on October 15, 2008, in the comfort of his own home, surrounded by loved ones. Kenn is survived by his cherished wife of 63 years, Mildred (Riddell) and family, Janie and Paul Reble of Burlington, John and Karen Hodd of Meadow Lake, Saskatchewan, Elizabeth Hodd and Arlie Katzman of Niagara on the Lake and Henry Krukowski of Ancaster. Kenn was predeceased by his beloved daughter Patricia Krukowski in December 2006. Kenn was a well known mathematics teacher within the Hamilton School Board prior to which he was active in cadet training at the Royal Military College. Captain K. B. Hodd CD served his country with distinction during World War II, in Europe and Italy, as a proud officer in the Royal Canadian Corps of Signals. Kenn was an accomplished pilot and avid boater, favouring the waters of Georgian Bay where he has spent every one of the past 46 summers and where his remains will rest for all eternity. His love of nature and all creatures great and small, reflected his gentle manner and his deep respect for life in all forms. Those who knew Kenn, held him in high esteem as a man of honour, a kind and caring father and a steadfast friend. With Kenn’s passing, we have all lost a very good man. Cremation has taken place and at Kenn’s request no funeral services are to be held. In lieu of flowers Kenn’s family gratefully appreciates donations to the charity of your choice or to the M. Patricia Krukowski Memorial Fund at St. Joseph’s Hospital Foundation, Hamilton Ontario, in memory of Kenneth B. Hodd. Arrangements entrusted to BAY GARDENS FUNERAL HOME, BURLINGTON (905-527-0405).

Holk, Reta Margaret 1923-2010

With saddened hearts and wonderful memories, we announce the passing of Reta Margaret in her 87th year at St. Joseph’s Villa, Dundas on Thursday February 11, 2010. Loving and devoted wife and best friend of Frank for 67 years. Loving mother of Louisa Rudlin (Bob), Jacqueline Parris (Dave), and Michael (Ellie). Loving and proud Nan of Kimberley (Don), Debbie (Dan), Ken (Grace), Kevin (Andrea), Kyle, Mark (Jess), Chris (Dana), and Jennifer (Noel). Cherished great-grandmother of Brittney, Alexis, Abigail, Jaylene, Regan, Indie, Amy, Ethan, Michael, Caiden, and Caleb. Predeceased by her parents George and Louise Slinn, sister Nell and brother George. Reta will be sadly missed by her sister-in-law Grace Slinn of Dunedin, Florida, brother-in-law Duncan Gent and good friend of Ruby Bryson. Visitation at BAY GARDENS FUNERAL HOME -“William J. Markey Chapel,” 947 Rymal Road East, HAMILTON (905-574-0405) on Monday from 2-4 p.m. and 7-9 p.m. and on Tuesday from 12-1 p.m. Funeral Service will be held in the Chapel on Tuesday February 16, 2010 at 1 p.m. Interment Eastlawn cemetery , Hamilton. As an expression of sympathy, memorial donations may be made to a charity of choice.

Hollis, Elsie Hellen 1919-2009

Hollis, Elsie H. (nee Shier) Peacefully at Regina Gardens on July 14th, 2009 in her 91st year. Loving wife of the late Bill Hollis for 66 years. Devoted mother of Shirley (Dieter) Mondry and Bob (Irene). Cherished by her 6 grandchildren and 5 great grandchildren. A Celebration of Elsie’s life will be at BAY GARDENS FUNERAL HOME, 947 Rymal Rd. E. (between Upper Gage & Upper Ottawa) HAMILTON (905-574-0405) on Monday, July 20th, 2009 at 10:30a.m.

Holmes, Vera Evelyn 1910-2010

Peacefully on March 30th, 2010 in her 101st year, at Hampton Terrace Care Centre, Burlington, Ontario. Pre-deceased by her husband Thomas Reed Holmes (1991) and brother Lloyd Millar Ramsay (2007). Lovingly remembered by her son Ramsay and his wife Leonie Holmes of Burlington; son John and his wife Sharon Holmes of North Bay, Ontario; grandson Reed and his wife Benedetta Holmes of Bedford, Nova Scotia and by her great grandchildren Giovanni, Emanuela and Serafina Holmes. Vera was born in Hamilton Ontario and was a scholarship student at McMaster University. She became a dedicated high school teacher and taught modern languages for many years at Malvern Collegiate Institute in Toronto where she was known as “Frau Holmes” to some of her students. A founding member of Agincourt Baptist Church, a world traveler and an avid collector, she enjoyed life to the full. A private family service will be held and Vera will be laid to rest beside her husband Reed at Mount Pleasant cemetery , Toronto. The family sincerely thanks Dr. Chiu and the staff of the Hampton Terrace Care Centre for their thoughtful and compassionate care of Vera during the last five years. Keyes, Dorothy Rose 1923-2011

Peacefully at the Joseph Brant Memorial Hospital Burlington, on Thursday January 6th 2011, Dorothy Rose Keyes in her 88th year. Beloved wife of Robert Earl Keyes. Loving mother of Barry (Patricia), Debbie Wood (Steve) and Brian (Deb). Loving Nana of Dana Keyes, Paul (Lindsay) Keyes, Pam (Clayton) Bowen, Mark Wood, Jessica and Katie Keyes. Dear sister of Patricia Wedderburn; sister-in-law of Ross Keys and Joan Keys-Veenstra. Survived by several nieces and nephews. Dorothy is predeceased by parents John and Doris (Giddings) Bleakley, brother William Bleakley, brothers-in-law Herbert Wedderburn and Murray Keys; sisters-in-0law Helen Keys and Margaret Bleakley. Cremation has taken place. A private family service and interment at Woodland cemetery , Burlington to follow. Peacefully at Joseph Brant Memorial Hospital on Wednesday January 5th, 2011. Shirley Helen Madill in her 81st year. Beloved wife of Herbert (Dinny) Madill. Loving mother of Ken, Tim, Don and stepmother of Richard and Lisa. Dearest Grandmother of 10 grandchildren and 6 great-grandchildren. Predeceased by her first husband Kenneth Burditt and five siblings.

At the request of the deceased their will be no visitation. Cremation has taken place. A public memorial service will be held at BAY GARDENS FUNERAL HOME 1010 Botanical Drive, BURLINGTON (905) 527-0405 on Tuesday January 11, 2011 at 10 a.m.

Melhado, Donald Fitzherbert 1926-2011

Peacefully, with family by his side on Saturday, January 8, 2011, at the age of 84, at St Joseph’s Hospital.

Will be forever missed by his devoted wife Joyce.

Leaving behind his children Katrina (Billy), Alan, Andrew (Aurela), and Jacqueline, his loving grandchildren in England and Canada, his brothers and sisters, and many friends.

Donald was a dedicated employee of Westinghouse Canada.

A special thank you to Dr Michael Achong, Dr Catherine Clase, the dialysis staff, and the nursing staff of the 7th floor Tower. An additional thank you to Macassa Lodge for their exceptional care.

Visitation at BAY GARDENS FUNERAL HOME – “William J. Markey Chapel”, 947 Rymal Rd E, HAMILTON (905.574.0405), on Tuesday, January 11, 2011, from 1-4pm and 6-9pm. A Celebration of Donald’s Life will held at St Stephen on the Mount (625 Concession St) on Wednesday, January 12, 2011, at 11am. Interment will follow at Mount Hamilton cemetery.

In lieu of flowers, memorial donations made to the St Josephs Healthcare Foundation or the St Stephen on the Mount Building Fund would be appreciated by the Melhado family.

Born on June 24, 1927 in Kalmazoo, Michigan, entered peacefully into the presence of Jesus, surrounded by her loving family on January 7, 2011 at Billings Court Manor, Burlington. Loving wife to the late John, cherished mother to Bernie, Julia, Lydia (Rick) and Annette (Al). Adored Oma to Jesse (Shannon), Ryan, Aaron, Peter (Heather), Stephanie (James), Matthew, Brett and Amy. Great Grandmother to Luke and Bella, Gabriella, Jessica and James. Dearest sister of Fannie and Frank (Bud), Michigan.

Mom’s love and her gifts of music brought much joy and harmony to our lives as well as a blessing to her church family.

Visitation at BAY GARDENS FUNERAL HOME, 1010 Botanical Drive (across from the Bayview cemetery & Mausoleum) BURLINGTON (905-527-0405) on Monday, January 10, 2011 from 4-9 p.m. A private family internment at Burlington Memorial Gardens. Memorial Service will be held at Faith Reformed Church, 2265 Mountainside Dr. on Tuesday, January 11 at 1 p.m. Pastor Kevin DeRaaf officiating. In lieu of flowers, donations to Trinity Christian School, Burlington would be greatly appreciated.
