He leaves to mourn his wife, and loving companion for close to 70 years, Madeline; his children Catherine (Gerry), Stephen (Bella), Elizabeth (Ewen), Richard (Linda), and the joys of his life, his 17 grandchildren and 8 great grandchildren. Being the first in his family to attend college (Ontario Agriculture College, Guelph), he went on to serve as provincial Agriculture Representative for Wellington County and later Carleton County, until his retirement in 1983. Always involved, he served on the executive of numerous associations including; the CCEA, Ottawa Winter Fair, Ottawa Valley Seed Growers And Farm Show, Carleton County Plowmen’s, and Eastern Ontario Soil and Crop Improvement , to name a few. Sports were an important part of his life, and as a young man, he pitched softball competitively and played as a goalie in hockey, eventually playing Intermediate ‘A’ and tending goal for the OAC team of 1949. Later in life, he founded the Goulbourn Lawn Bowling Club, enjoying the game until he was no longer able to play. Our mentor, a respected listener, providing sage advice on request in his calm and confident manner, his memory will live on through those who knew and loved him. Thanks to the special staff on A3 Queensway Carleton Hospital who cared for him in his final days; Joyce, Quincy, Sergio, Sue, Billie and Dr Christine Whetter, and to the caring staff at Bridlewood Trails Retirement Community.
