WRIGHT, William Martin (Retired CNR Employee) Peacefully on April 20, 2000 at the age of 80. Beloved husband of Olive May Wright (nee Hall). Cherished son of the late George and Margaret Wright. Brother of Doris Levers, the late Lorne Wright and the late Norman Wright. Brother-in-law of Doris Dewhurst and Frances Hall. He will be sadly missed by many nieces and nephews. A Memorial Service will be held at the Central Chapel of Hulse, Playfair & McGarry, 315 McLeod St., Ottawa on Friday, March 5, at 2 p.m. In lieu of flowers donations to the Parkinson's Society of Ottawa-Carleton would be greatly appreciated.

O'MAHONY, Wilfred Joseph Peacefully in hospital, Ottawa, Ontario on Tuesday, October 10, 2000 at age 80.Wilfred Joseph O'Mahony husband of the late Marjorie Talbot. Dear father of Joan Beahen, Nepean, Maureen Sim (Dave), Kanata and Kathryn Zeran (Greg), Brockville. Also survived by seven grandchildren, one sister Helen and three brothers Edwin, Joe and Charlie. Predeceased by one brother John. Friends may call at the Kerry Funeral Home, 154 Elgin Street, Almonte for visiting on Friday from 11 a.m. until 1:30 p.m. Thence to Holy Name of Mary Church, Almonte for Mass of Christian Burial at 2 p.m. Cremation, Ottawa. Donations made to The Lung Association would be appreciated by the O'Mahony family.

PEARCE, Wayne Sandford (W/C RCAF, retired) Born March 7, 1915 in Saskatchewan, died peacefully October 6, 2000 at Ottawa Civic Hospital with his loving wife Laura at his side. His life was marked by extraordinary achievement and contribution to his family, friends, community and country. He grew up in Vancouver, B.C. and assumed the mantle of protector, provider, supporter and counselor at an early age. He joined the Royal Canadian Air Force in 1938 and began a spectacular career in photo reconnaisance. His unit was one of the first to be established in Normandy in 1944. He was in the forefront of the march across Europe including the liberation of Holland and advance to Germany. His group was one of the first to relieve the Belsen concentration camp. He was appointed to Farnborough, England, in 1946 to oversee the evaluation of captured technical war material. He returned to Canada to develop new photo reconnaissance technology and was a prime mover in the first complete air mapping of the country. Wayne retired as a Wing Commander in 1964 and moved to Saltspring Island, B.C. He embarked on a second career as house builder, real-estate professional, member of the Real-estate Board of Variance, sailor, historian, teacher, opera lover, Commodore (1988) of the Saltspring Island Sailing Club, member of the Canadian Power Squadron, supporter of the Federation of Canadian Artists, ArtSpring benefactor and Ham radio operator. He was a mentor, friend, advocate, sponsor and enthusiastic patron of his grandchildren and many other young people. His boundless enthusiasm and contemporary interests led him to perform countless acts of unconditional help. He leaves a legacy of integrity, intellectual discipline, generosity, patriotism and an unwavering commitment to his family. He was predeceased by his beloved wife of fifty four years, Marguerite in 1993. Wayne's ability to embrace the challenge and privilege of life was rewarded by his finding a new companion late in his life. He married Laura on August 12, 2000 and celebrated a profound union of grace and love. He is survived by his wife Laura, his daughters Patricia and Kathleen, their husbands Tom Hood and Roger Kibble, his grandchildren, Ellen, Jennifer, Jeffrey, Steven, Aimee and Wendy, his sister Jean, and his many cousins, nieces, nephews and extended family. He will be deeply missed but forever remembered. A memorial service will be held at All Saints Anglican Church on Salt Spring Island, B.C., on Saturday, October 21, 2000.

Miller and dear dad of Lloyd of Almonte, Mrs. Lois Lowe of Carleton Place and Lyle (Dorothy) of Cedar Hill. Survived by 6 grandchildren and 6 great-grandchildren. Predeceased by his grandson Gregory, great-great-granddaughter Stephanie Lynn and sister Mrs. Hazel Millett. Friends may call at the C.R. GAMBLE FUNERAL HOME & CHAPEL 127 Church Street, Almonte for visiting on Thursday from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. and where Service will be held in the Chapel on Friday at 1:30 p.m. Interment Auld Kirk cemetery , Almonte. In memory of Murray, donations may be made to the charity of ones choice and would be greatly appreciated by his family.

Also survived by 20 grandchildren, 26 great-grandchildren, 5 great-great-grandchildren, 1 sister Alda (late Frank Malagutie) of Massachusetts, 1 sister-in-law Yvette Bertrand (late Cecil Rusenstrom) of Aylwin and many nephews, nieces, cousins and friends. RUST, Dr. Velma Irene Beloved wife of the late Dr. Ronald Stuart Rust, passed away peacefully at the Civic Hospital in Ottawa on October 11, 2000. Since her sudden change in health two and a half years ago, she had been lovingly cared for by her nephew Kendel and his wife Michelle. Velma was born in Edmonton, Alberta on May 22, 1914 to Cecil Johnstone and Lillie (Runions) Miller. Between the years 1934 and 1947 she received her B.Sc; B.Ed; and MEd. degrees from the University of Alberta followed by her Ph.D. in 1959 from the University of Illinois. Her professional career was varied, reflecting her wide ranging interests and talents. Prior to 1960 she was a high school teacher, and administrative assistant at the University of Alberta, an assistant professor of Education at the University of Alberta and a graduate assistant at the University of Illinois. Since 1960 and until her retirement in 1979 she held different and challenging positions in three different areas of the public service as well as lecturing at Carleton University. She married Ron in Edmonton, Alberta on April 9, 1955. Together they enjoyed thirty fulfilling years, much of it taken up with many achievements in their professional lives, taking active membership in MacKay United Church and world-wide travels prior to his passing on July 16, 1984. Velma was an ardent golfer, tennis player and genealogist with a passion for duplicate bridge and gardening. She is survived by sister-in-law Sophie Rust and Edith Miller as well as six nieces and nephews and their families. We will remember Velma as a distinguished, courteous, intelligent and witty woman who valued her many friends and appreciated her family. Friends may visit at the Central Chapel of Hulse, Playfair & McGarry, 315 McLeod Street, on Friday, from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. Funeral Service will be held at MacKay United Church, 257 MacKay Street, on Saturday, October 14, 2000 at 1 p.m. Interment will take place in Brooks, Alberta. For those wishing, donations made be made to the Ottawa Heart Institute or the Kidney Foundation of Canada.
