ARBUCKLE, Linda Peacefully in the Elisabeth Bruyere Health Centre, after a long courageous battle with cancer, on Sunday, July 6, 2003 at age 60. Beloved wife of Jim Arbuckle. Loving mother of Carrie and Jeff (Angela). Proud grandmother of Erin. Sister of Edith McDiarmid (Doug) and John McBride. Predeceased by her parents Theodore and Marjory McBride. Friends may call at the Garden Chapel of Tubman Funeral Homes, 3440 Richmond Road, Nepean (between Bayshore Drive and Baseline Road) on Tuesday from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. Funeral Service will be held at St. Andrew’s United Church, Fitzroy Harbour, on Wednesday at 2 p.m. Interment Whytes cemetery. For those wishing, a memorial donation to Whytes cemetery Fund would be appreciated.

ARGENT: Helena Elizabeth passed away peacefully at the Country Village Health Care Center on December 10, 2003 at the age of 80 years. Wife of the late James Argent (Aug 1990). Loving mother to Kathleen Argent of Essex. Dear sister to Margaret Lefebvre. Predeceased by brother Albert Wortley. Helena was a former employee of Philpott Bakery. (Westons) and also a member of the Order of Eastern Star and of Heritage Essex. Funeral services were held at St. Paul's Anglican Church , on Saturday, December 13, 2003 at 10:00 am. Rev. Dana Rodgers officiating. Interment in Cottam United Church cemetery. Memorial donations to the Breast Cancer Research Foundation or the Heart & Stroke Foundation would be greatly appreciated by the family.

ARGUE, Kathleen Emma (Cathcart) July 11, 1911 – March, 19, 2003 Born Marengo, Sask. Kay passed away peacefully with her family by her side. Beloved wife of the late Bert G. Argue, 1964. Daugther of the late Franklin and Edith Cathcart. Loving mother of Audrey (Scott Caldwell), Frank (Elaine Rivington), Mary (Brian Carry) and J. Albert (Gail Wilson). Loving grandmother of Fred Caldwell (Jill), Ross Caldwell (Andrea), Kathy Frederick (Brent), Paul Caldwell (Debbie), Brent Argue (Sonya), Shawn Argue (Stacey), Shane Carry, Lisa Carry, Melinda McCord (Ross), Abigail Argue and Allison Argue. Great grandmother to eleven. Predeceased by brothers Clifford (Mildred), Bert, and Bill. Survived by Phyllis Cathcart. Friends may call at the Valley Chapel of Tubman Funeral Homes, 115 Rivington Street, Carp, on Thursday and Friday from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. Funeral Service will be held at Stittsville United Church, 6255 Fernbank Rd. on Saturday at 2 p.m. Spring interment Stittsville United cemetery. Loving husband and best friend of Shirley for 48 years. Beloved father of Jamie and Kim (Valerie). Cherished grandfather of Shannon, Kimberley (K-Anne) and Chantel (Billie). Dear brother of Frank, Ernie (Mavis) and the late Jack (El). Friends may call at the Garden Chapel of Tubman Funeral Homes, 3440 Richmond Road, Nepean (between Bayshore Dr. and Baseline Rd.) on Friday from 2:00 to 4:00 and 7:00 to 9:00 pm and on Saturday after 10:00 am. Armstrong: Vera Bertha Anna

Armstrong - Vera Bertha Anna (nee Fritsch) Peacefully with family on Monday, February 03, 2003 at Ottawa General Hospital, she completed her life's journey in her 91st year. With love, she leaves behind her husband of 66 years, Charles; her daughters Charlene (Grant) Bernhardt and Bethany Armstrong; her grandchildren Scott (Theresa), Mark (Deanna) Bernhardt and Cristina Armstrong; her great grandchildren Daniel, Mariah, Julia and Eric Bernhardt. She is also survived by sister Ora, brother Emil, brother-in-law Andy (Ann), sister-in-law Martha and many nieces and nephews and their families. She will be remembered for her style, pies, knitting and sense of humour. Thanks to the medical team, Michelle, Sara, and Marlene, and all the 6th floor caregivers; the Rev. Dr. Beglo and to many at Billings Lodge for their care and consideration. We appreciate the love and support of friends and extended family at this time. Friends may call at the Westboro Chapel of Tubman Funeral Homes, 403 Richmond Road at Roosevelt on Friday, February 7th from 6 to 8 p.m. A memorial service will be held at St. Paul's Lutheran Church, Denbigh, ON on Saturday at 2:00 p.m. Inurnment, Plevna, ON in the spring. Dear mother of Margaret Elizabeth of Brechin and William Harold (Beverley) of Huntsville. Grandmother of Damon (Jayne), Laurel (Paul), Susan (Mitchell), and Cheryl (Shaun). Great grandmother of Jillian, Michele, Brett, Cameron, Sarah, Cory, Melissa, Emma, and Hanna. Sister of Kathleen Shier of Georgetown. Predeceased by son-in-law Russell Smith, brothers Charlie and John, and sisters Lilian, Violet, and Clara. Resting at the Mundell Funeral Home, 79 West St.N., Orillia, Ont. Grandmother of Michael (Michelle), David, Eric, Daniel (Betty Ann). Great-grandmother of Chelsea, Curtis, Damien and Rachelle. Predeceased by a granddaughter Ann. Friends are invited to join the family at St. Thomas Aquinas Roman Catholic Church 413 Main Street, Hudson QC, on Monday July 7, 2003 from 1 p.m. until Memorial Mass at 2:00 p.m. In lieu of flowers, a donation to the charity of choice would be appreciated by the family.

Awde: Clarence "Doug"

AWDE (Clarence) "Doug" on Monday, October 27, 2003 at Henderson Hospital, Hamilton, in his 76th year. Dearly loved husband for 51 years of Lillian "Lil" Awde. Son of the late Earle and Nettie Awde. Much loved and devoted father and father-in-law of Brian of Simcoe and his friend Peggy, Barry and Laurie, Bruce and Janette all of Port Dover, and Rhonda Awde of Brantford. Proud and cherished grandpa of David and Ashley and Coby and Canaan. Dear brother and brother-in-law of Bob and Bonnie of Picton, Barbara (Awde) and Doug Mummery, Bill Sherman, all of Port Dover, Elsie Venchuk of Victoria, British Columbia and Edna Holt of Winnipeg. Predeceased by sister Betty Sherman (1992). Will be fondly remembered by his many nieces and nephews. Doug was a very dedicated, inspirational and respected member of Port Dover. His family and community were his life. Doug received his electrician's licence in 1953 and was employed with Simpson and Henning Electric until 1961 at which time he began his own business "Doug Awde Electric", prospering well until very recently. Years ago he was a trustee of the Port Dover School Board and coached Port Dover Minor Hockey. He joined the Norfolk Oddfellows Lodge # 225 in 1947 and the Lions Club in 1961, becoming very active, served as President in 1972/73. He was very proud to be the Chairman of the Lion's Stag and Fish Fry for 21 years and certainly enjoyed every one of them. Doug was also a member of the Port Dover Legion, Branch # 158 for many years. He loved his hunting trips to Burk's Falls, being a member of the North Lake Hunt Club. Last but not least, Doug's unselfish dedication, knowledge and love of the Port Dover Firefighters for 37 years will never be forgotten. He joined the Fire Department in 1956 and retired in 1993, serving as Deputy Chief for 25 years and Chief 1990 - 1993. Doug, with his friendly nature and wonderful sense of humour will forever be in the hearts of all who knew him. Mr. Awde is at the THOMPSON WATERS FUNERAL HOME,102 First Ave., Port Dover (583-1530) for visitation, Thursday, October 30 7-9 pm and Friday, October 31, 2-4 pm and 7-9 pm. Funeral Service will be held from Grace United Church (corner of St. George and Chapman Sts.) on Saturday, November 1, 2003 at 11:00 am, Rev. Brian Elder officiating. Interment to follow at Port Dover cemetery. Firefighters Service, Thursday at 6:45 pm, Legion Service, Friday at 1:45 pm, Oddfellows Service, Friday at 6:10 pm, Lions Service, Friday at 6:30 pm. Memorial donations to Norfolk General Hospital Family Fund, Canadian Cancer Society or charity of one's choice would be kindly acknowledged by the family.

Axcell: Arnold Aaron

Axcell: Arnold Aaron 91 years, passed away peacefully on December 6, 2003 at the Iler Lodge in Essex. Cherished husband to Jessie (nee Gillis). Loving father to Shona and Lonnie Jones of Essex, Moira and Michael McNeely of Marietta, GA, Arnold is also survived by 3 sisters & brothers-in-law in England. Proud Papa to Trevor and Jacquelyn Jones of Ottawa; Brennan and Kerry Jones of Essex; Cristin and Jason Sidon of Brampton; Brianne McNeely and fiancé Brent Legeree of Changsa, China. Very proud great Papa to Simon Jones of Ottawa. Born in England but raised in Canada, Arnold was a World War II veteran who returned to Maidstone with a Scottish bride and infant daughter, and later had a second daughter. He farmed for a few years then turned to other occupations. He made many friends as a High School bus driver, rural mail carrier and in his thirteen years as Postmaster in Maidstone. He enjoyed membership in the Scottish Society, Trillium Club and the Essex Retiree’s where he avidly played darts, cribbage and alley, lawn and carpet bowling. Over his years he had been very active in his Church and was a member of the Masonic Lodge and the Royal Canadian Legion Branch 201, Essex. The true love of his life however was his best friend and wife of 60 years-Jessie. Friends may gather at the Stewart L. Kennedy Funeral Home 128 Talbot St. N. Essex (776-7378) on Tuesday from 2-5 and 7-9. A memorial service will be held on Wednesday December 10, 2003 at the Bethel-Maidstone United Church at 11 a.m. Rev. Brenda Woodall officiating. In lieu of flowers memorial donations to the Windsor Regional Cancer Centre or the Bethel-Maidstone United Church would be appreciated by the family. Words cannot adequately express the gratitude we, the Axcell family, feel for the kindness, tender teasing and countless hours of care that the staff at Iler Lodge have shown Dad. Thank-you.

Loving husband of Jean (Gloyd), dear father of Doug(Hagersville). Wrae and Doneen (Selkirk) and Jeff (Hagersville). Grandfather of Bill and Deb (Ayr), Brad and Angie (Townsend) and Alexandra (Hamilton). Great-grandfather of Mikayla, Cody, Devon and Jade. Son of the late Ed and Martha Bacher, brother of Keith and Margaret (Caledonia), Peter and Helen (Cayuga), Earl and Liz (Fisherville).' Brother-inlaw of Eileen Bunn and Birge Gloyd. Predeceased by sisters Eileen Stire and Margaret Stewart. At the family's request there will be no visitation. Private Family Service has been arranged. Cremation has taken place. Banks: Ada (nee Julian) Suddenly at the Ottawa Civic Hospital, on Saturday February 15, 2003 at the age of 80. Beloved wife of Russell of 57 years. Cherished mother of Diane Orac, Donald (Fran), Susan (John McColley) and Catherine Banks. Proud grandmother of Jennifer (Jody Grantham), Jason and Katie Orac, Michael, Matthew and Christina Banks, Cheryl and Eric McColley. Great-grandmother of Amy Grantham. Survived by her brother Henry and her many nieces and nephews in England. Ada married Russell in Cornwall England in 1945. They came to Canada and lived in Dartmouth Nova Scotia and then resided in the Ottawa area for almost 30 years. Ada was a very devoted wife and mother and will be fondly remembered by her family. At the families request the funeral arrangements will be private. For those who wish, a donation to the charity of choice would be appreciated.
