MILLEY, Rose (née Bentsen)

It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of Rose, Grandma, Mum and wife on September 10, 2006. She is survived by her husband of 51 years Don Milley, and by her children and their partners: Scott and Vickie of Kincardine; Andrew and Mary of Guelph; Catherine and Ray of Ottawa and Lesley and Chris of Toronto. She will be greatly missed by her grandchildren Hannah and Erica Milley; Simon, Gordon and Grace Milley and Zoe, Ezra and Hazel Pierce. Rose fought cancer for 20 years, but it did not deter her from traveling, studying, acting and enjoying her eight grandchildren. In the past few years she traveled to Norway, Portugal, Italy, Greece, Poland, Cuba and across Canada, sometimes hiking but more recently touring. Rose was a keen participant in ACT II studio, taking many courses and acting and singing in plays and recitals. A lifelong supporter of the arts, she enjoyed the opera, symphony and theatre. Rose would never turn down a game of scrabble, including her last game three days before she died, which she won with a seven letter word. Rose grew up on the Queen Charlotte Islands and in Prince Rupert. She worked as a legal secretary in Vancouver before marrying and moving east as a young newlywed. She and Don spent three years in England before returning to Ontario to raise their family in Kincardine, Oakville, Deep River and Port Elgin. These were busy years filled with family and volunteering; any spare time was spent taking courses and studying, which culminated in English degree from the University of Ottawa. After two years in Atlanta, Rose and Don returned to Toronto, where Rose used her natural tenacity to re-enter the workforce after many years at home. Her work at cultural organizations, especially the Toronto Mendelssohn Choir, was very important to her. The family will receive friends for a reception gathering in the Leaside Room of the HUMPHREY FUNERAL HOME - A.W. MILES CHAPEL, Toronto (1-800-616-3311), on Sunday, October 1st at 2 o'clock. If desired, donations to the Canadian Cancer Society, 20 Holly Street, Suite #101, Toronto, Ontario M4S 3B1 or a charity of your choice would be appreciated.
