Suddenly at home on Tuesday, March 25, 2003, at the age of 82. Beloved wife of Harold. Loving mother of Brian (Hanna), Robin (Catherine Langtry) and Chris (Joanne). Cherished grandma of Mark, Luc, Matthew and Agata. Fondly remembered by many relatives and friends around the world. Alice led an active and independent lifestyle right to the end. She taught all of us so much about kindness and compassion and was loved by all who knew her. A memorial service will be held at Kanata United Church, 33 Leacock Drive on Saturday, May 24, 2003, at 4:30 p.m. with a reception to follow in the church hall. Donations to the Humane Society or other animal welfare charity would be gratefully appreciated.

June 6, 1936 - April 7, 2003 Peacefully at the Ottawa Heart Institute surrounded by family and friends, age 66. Beloved husband of Lilia Trinidad Dizon. Predeceased by his daughter Melanie Alissa. Loving father of Jean Patrick Dizon, Karina Marysa Dizon (Lee Haire), Michelle Lilia Ward. Dear brother of Maureen Gillard-Pye (the late Dave), David (Sylvia). Will be sadly missed by many family and friends. Friends may visit at the St. Laurent Chapel of Hulse, Playfair & McGarry, 1200 Ogilvie Road (at Aviation Parkway) on Thursday, April 10, 2003 from noon until time of Celebration of Life in the Chapel at 2 p.m. Reception to follow. A special thank you to all the staff at the Ottawa Heart Institute for all their care and compassion. In lieu of flowers, donation may be made to the Ottawa Heart Institute.

A Funeral Service will be held at the Jewish Memorial Chapel, 1771 Cuba Avenue on Thursday, September 25, 2003 at 2 p.m. Interment Jewish Community cemetery , Bank Street, Ottawa. Shiva to be observed at 11 Elvaston Avenue until 4 p.m. Friday, September 26, 2003. Those wishing may make donations to Hillel Lodge (728-3900) or the charity of your choice. Arrangements in care of the Central Chapel of Hulse, Playfair & McGarry.

Loving mother of George (Joan) of Prince George, B.C., Frank, and Hugh (Leslie), both of Ottawa. Cherished "Nana" of Michael, Jennifer and Loni, and great-grandmother of Liam and Kennedy. Friends may visit at the West Chapel of Hulse, Playfair & McGarry, 150 Woodroffe Avenue at Richmond Road, after 11 a.m. Saturday, September 27, 2003, until Service time in the Chapel at 12 noon. Interment Beechwood cemetery. Those wishing may make memorial donations to the charity of their choice.

Betty Jane R.N. (nee Ira) Barrow - 09/26/2003

On Thursday, September 25, 2003, in Ottawa. Beloved wife of the late Michael Barrow. Loving mother of Barbara Dunsworth (Edward) of Buenos Aires, Mr. Justice Geoffrey Barrow (Shelley) of Kelowna, Sally Clarke (Ian) of Ottawa. Cherished sister of twin Barbara Gladman of Halifax and Ruth Anderson of Campbell, California. Adored grandmother of Kathryn, Sally, Michael, Edward, Elizabeth, Jacqueline, Nicholas, Nathan, Emma and Lucy. Beloved aunt of Betsy Anderson, Christina Gladman, Kathleen Soucy and Janet Gundersen. Born in Stockton, California in 1923 she was a graduate of Stanford University School of Nursing (class of '46). During her illness Betty displayed an admirable strength of character, facing its many challenges with determination, humour and faith. She was an inspiration to all who knew her. The family acknowledges with gratitude the loving care provided by Elaine Woodbeck. Also Juvy, Iris, Diane, Bev, Palmira, Barbara, Winnie, Anna, Luvianne, David, Pina and the nursing and medical staff of the Queensway Carleton Hospital. Friends may visit at the Central Chapel of Hulse, Playfair & McGarry, 315 McLeod Street on Friday, September 26, 2003 from 7 to 9 p.m. Service at Trinity Anglican Church, 1230 Bank St. on Saturday at 2 p.m. For those wishing, donations may be made to the Parkinson's Society.

Tina Bekooy (nee Mattijssen) - 10/02/2003

After a courageous battle with cancer, we are saddened to announce the passing of Tina Bekooy, on Thursday October 2, 2003 at age 77. Beloved mother of Barbara-Ann and mother-in-law of Andrew Parker. Greatly missed by Jan Bekooy, Dolf, Henk and Richard Mattijssen, and a large circle of friends. Tina's devotion to others in need is an inspiration to all who knew her. Friends and family are welcome to gather at 462 Dawson Ave. in Westboro on Sunday October 5th, from 2 to 4 p.m. Heartfelt thanks to Dr. Hollingworth and all the Staff and Volunteers at the Maycourt Hospice. Memorial donations may be made to the Maycourt Hospice, 114 Cameron Avenue, Ottawa ON K1S 0X1 or the Canadian Cancer Society.

Marjorie Annette Blyberg
(nee McKinnon) (formerly Booth, MacKay-Smith) Perhaps her names alone are an indication of the extent she affected her family, her parents, a beloved brother, 3 husbands, 2 sons, 8 step-children, numerous grandchildren and a great-granddaughter, born this September 15th. With great sense of loss, Marjorie's family announce her passing on Sunday September 28th. She was predeceased by her three beloved husbands, C. Rowley Booth, Stuart A. MacKay-Smith and Arne Blyberg. She is survived by her sons John (Wendy) Booth and Bill (Jules) Booth, six grandchildren and one great-granddaughter, along with seven stepchildren, their spouses, their children and grandchildren. "Grammy" delighted in her ever growing family. Always a true lady, Marjorie faced her last challenging years the same way she lived her whole life - with dignity, elegance and an undaunted spirit. There ever was a sparkle in her eyes. An Ottawa native, she lived most of her life in this city and her lovely home in Montebello. She spent 26 winters in Marco Island, Florida with Arne, swimming, playing golf and participating in community and Church services. She was a life member of the Royal Ottawa Golf Club. Marjorie will be best remembered for her love of entertaining, golf, swimming, dancing and a keen interest in her extended family. Her volunteer contributions in Ottawa were numerous including The Ottawa May Court, The Ottawa Day Nursery, The Red Cross, The Ottawa Womens' Canadian Club and several Foundations. A special thanks to the caring staff of the New Edinburgh Square, Rabo Health Care, and the VON. Donations to the VON would be greatly appreciated. Friends may visit at the Central Chapel of Hulse, Playfair & McGarry, 315 McLeod Street on Thursday October 2, 2003 from 6-9 p.m. Funeral Service will be held on Friday, October 3, 2003 at 3:00 p.m. at St. Andrews Presbyterian Church, 82 Kent Street, Ottawa. Private interment Beechwood cemetery.

Ann Lauraine Marie Nee Morrison Brigden - 09/24/2003

Also known as "Grammie on the street", Ann passed away peacefully at home on Tuesday, September 23rd, 2003, after a lengthy and courageous battle with cancer. One of the stars in the sky has gone out for family and friends, but a new angel has been born. Ann was the wife and best friend of David, wonderful mother to Jamie (Max) and Tiffanie (Kent), grandmother of Jessie (the light of her life), daughter of Kemp and Melba Morrison, sister of Maureen McWade (Ron), Bill (Mary) and Sandy (Margaret) Morrison. Special aunt of Jennifer Gillis, Debbie and Carson MacIsaac, John and Christopher Morrison, Cameron, Whitney and Taylor McWade and sister-in-law of Raymond. Ann was also very special and loved by her sister-in-law Chris MacIsaac and Kim Tweedie who Ann considered a daughter. Her loving smile and compassion for people will be sorely missed. The family would like to thank the nurses of the day chemo unit of the Gynecological Oncology Unit at the General Hospital, the doctors, nurses and staff of the Gynecological Oncology Unit and the VON nurses who looked after her at home. A special mention and thanks to Doctor Louise Coulombe for her outstanding care and compassion that was of great help to the family and Ann. Also, the family would like to thank Rob and Sharon Davis and Wade and Shirley Cuthbertson for their outstanding support and love. Friends may visit at the Central Chapel of Hulse, Playfair and McGarry, 315 McLeod Street on Friday, September 26 from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. Funeral Service will be held in the chapel on Saturday, September 27 at 9:30 a.m. In lieu of flowers, a memorial donation to the Ann Brigden Memorial Fund, c/o the Community Foundation of Ottawa would be appreciated. Funds will be devoted to assisting home palliative patients. Private interment.

Peacefully at the Montfort Hospital, Ottawa on Saturday, September 27, 2003, Vivian Christensen (nee Moore) at the age of 89 years. Wife of Major (ret’d) C.B. Chris Christensen. Sister of Malcolm (Inez) of Brampton. Predeceased by her first husband Graham Rodger, brother Jack ans sisters Dorothea and Armonde. She served with the Women’s Division of the Royal Canadian Navy, WWII. Flowers gratefully declined. Friends may attend a Memorial Service at the Central Chapel, Hulse, Playfair & McGarry, 315 McLeod street on Wednesday, October 1, 2003 at 11 a.m.
