LUMER, Helen (née Lapkovsky). Peacefully, on Sunday, July 6, 2014 in her ninety-first year. Beloved wife of the late Solomon. Loving mother and mother-in-law of Victor and Eileen Lumer (Little), Barbara Lumer and Bob DeWolf. Cherished grandmother of Jonathan and Jessica, Erin and Nathan, and Laura. Dear sister and sister-in-law of Elsie and George Fisher, Freda and the late Maury Hutkins, the late Phil and the late Evelyn Lapkovsky. Helen will be lovingly remembered by her nieces, nephews, family and friends. BIERBRIER, Dorothy G. (née Yachnin). On Wednesday, July 2, 2014. Beloved wife of the late Harry. Devoted mother of Morris (Lydia), and Thelma Bierbrier. Dear daughter of the late Solomon and the late Anne Yachnin. Dorothy was the last of eleven Yachnin siblings, and was a cherished sister-in-law, aunt, great-aunt, and great-great-aunt. NEWMAN, Ruth (née Silver). Peacefully, following a courageous battle with cancer, on Monday, July 7, 2014 at the age of seventy-nine. Beloved wife of the late Moe. Daughter of the late Annie and the late Sam Silver. Loving and devoted mother of Sherri (Mike), and Paul. Adored Bubie of Zahra, Ashley, Ryan, Adam, and Mackenzie. Proud great-grandmother of Sahar, Safaa, and Ellie. Dear sister of Sylvia and the late Jerry Potofsky and the late Jack Rottenberg, Ida and Myer Holtzberg; and sister-in-law of Bina Newman, the late Goldie and the late Louis Woods. She will be greatly missed by her many nieces, nephews, her best friend Irwin Feldstein and his children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren. A big “thank-you” to Dr. Jason Agulnik and Nurse Tara at the Jewish General Hospital and to the West Island Palliative Care Residence for their exceptional care and compassion. Adored “Mama” of Lindsay Hollinger and Jason Retter, Samantha Hollinger and fiancé Ricky Gold; Erin Karpman, Matthew Karpman and Marlee Silverstein. Proud “Mama Frankie” of Jackson Retter. Dear sister-in-law of Morty and Diane Rubinger, Bram Rubinger, and Bryna Rubinger. Sister and sister-in-law of Danny and the late Ella Bendon, Naomi and the late Morris Bendon, and the late Morton Bendon. AZRIELI, David C.M., C.Q., M.Arch. On Wednesday, July 9, 2014, surrounded by his family in his country house overlooking Lake Manitou. He remained strong, independent and doing things his way until the end. A visionary, builder and world-renowned businessman, leader, philanthropist and devoted Zionist, he was ninety-two. Dear husband of Stephanie Lefcort for fifty-seven years. Loving father, father-in-law of Rafi Azrieli, Sharon Azrieli Perez and Avi Perez, Naomi Azrieli and François Blanc, Danna Azrieli and Danny Hakim. Proud grandfather of Matthew, and Solomon Azrieli; Joseph, Gabriel and Madeleine Azrieli Blanc; Galia, and Ella Azrieli Hakim. Brother of the late Ephraim and the late Miriam Azrylewicz; and brother-in-law of Deborah and Robert Rosenthal, Elizabeth Lefcort and Lou Elfenbaum, Malcolm and the late Dorothy Lefcort. Predeceased by his parents and siblings who perished in the Holocaust. It is with deep sadness that we say goodbye to such a wonderful man on Wednesday, July 23, 2014. Bernie was and will always be a cherished husband of Sorrell, devoted dad of Marla Chaskin and Frank Dias, Shari Chaskin and Jeff Love, and grandpa of Tyler Dias. He will be fondly remembered by his family, friends and all the animals he rescued.
