CANAVAN, Ross Manson. At the Hamilton General Hospital on August 26, 2004 in his eighty-second year. Beloved husband of Betty, loving father of Joan, Glen, Janet and David. Brother of Leslie and Alan. Served overseas with the 17th Duke Of York's Royal Canadian Hussars. Funeral service held at St. John's United Church, Oakville, On. on August 30, 2004.

CLOSNER, Jeanne. On Tuesday, September 7, 2004. Beloved wife of the late Samuel. Devoted mother and mother-in-law of Dr. Arnold and Joy Closner of Toronto, and Karen Closner. Cherished "Bubba Jeanne" of Ed, Brian, Neil, and Robert Closner. Dear sister and sister-in-law of the late Harry and the late Ruth, the late Jack and the late Sarah Blanshay. Sister-in-law of Mickey Closner. She will be sadly missed by her nieces, nephews, relatives and friends. Graveside Service at the Young Israel of Montreal Section, Kehal Israel Cemetery, Sources Rd., D.D.O. on Wednesday, September 8 at 1 p.m. Shiva at 5740 Cavendish #506. Donations in her memory may be made to the charity of your choice.

DURANT, Christopher "Nick". Passed away after a courageous battle at the Jewish General Hospital on September 4, 2004 at the age of thirty-seven years. Beloved son Phil and Shirley Durant, and Alma Miller. Dearest father of Zackera. Cherished brother of Michelle, Denise, David, Ann Marie, Claudette, Barbara, Sandra and Donna. Also survived by many dear nieces, nephews, relatives and friends. The family would like to extend a special thanks to Dr. Fariah and nurse Robin for all of their support. Resting at Feron's Funeral Homes, 1010 Shevchenko Blvd., Lasalle, Qc. Funeral mass to be held at St. John Brebeuf Church on Saturday, September 11 at 11 a.m. Interment Notre Dame des Neiges Cemetery. Visiting hours Friday from 2 to 5 and 7 to 9 p.m. In lieu of flowers, donations to the Canadian Cancer Society would be gratefully appreciated.

ELDER, Norma Ellen (nee Molyneux). Died peacefully, surrounded by her family on Monday, September 6, 2004 at the West Island Palliative Care Residence. Loving mother of Steven (Sylvie), Lynn (John Turner), Arnold (Julie) and James, dearly loved grandmother to Brandi, Matthew, Patrick, Amanda, Brooke and Adam. Dear friend of Marretta Warianko. The family would like to thank Heather Wood of the V.O.N., the staff at the CLSC St-Louis, the Oncology team, headed by Dr. Katz, at the Lakeshore General Hospital, and the staff and volunteers at the West Island Palliative Care Centre for thier kindness and care of our mother. The memorial service will be held at Rideau Funeral Home, 4275 Sources Blvd., D.D.O., Qc. (514) 685-3344 on Friday, September 10, 2004 at 2 p.m. with visitation one hour prior to the service. Interment will follow in Rideau Memorial Gardens. In lieu of flowers, donations to the West Island Palliative Care Residence, the Victorian Order of Nurses or the Lakeshore General Hospital Foundation would be appreciated. FURLONG, John Albert. Passed away suddenly in Brossard on September 7, 2004 at the age of fifty-eight. Devoted husband Regina (Pepe). Predeceased by his parents John Furlong and Lillian Brighton. He will be sadly missed by his uncle and aunt, and many cousins, family and friends. Visitation will be held at Darche Funeral Home, 7679 Taschereau Blvd., Brossard on Thursday, September 9 from 2 to 5 and 7 to 9 p.m. Funeral service at the Good Shepherd Church, 7900 Naples, Brossard on Friday, September 10 at 12 noon. He is also survived by his brother John of Toronto and by his step-children Joanne, Colleen, John, Peter and Brenda. Friends are invited to attend a memorial service on Thursday, September 9 at 2:30 p.m. at Collins Clarke MacGillivray White Funeral Home, 222 Highway 20 (Cartier exit 49), Pointe Claire. Visitation Thursday, September 9, from 2 to 9 p.m. Funeral Service at St. Peter & St. Paul Cathedral, 1151 Champlain St. on Friday, September 10, 2004 at 10 a.m. Thence to Hawthorn Dale Cemetery.

HOBBS, Frederick "Fred" Allen. Of Las Vegas, NV (formerly Dunkirk, NY) died Saturday (September 4, 2004) in the University Hospital in Las Vegas. He was born March 31, 1929 in Montreal Quebec, son of Percival and Allison Hobbs. He grew up in Montreal, Canada and worked as a printing ink specialist at CPS in Dunkirk, NY and retired in 1998. Survivors include five sons and three daughters, David Hobbs of Fredonia, NY, Andrew Hobbs of Cassadaga, NY, Allen Hobbs of Edmonton, Canada, Johnny Hobbs and Michael Hobbs of Montreal, Canada; Mona Hobbs of Las Vegas, NV, Kathy Hobbs and Dianne Baron of Montreal, Canada; thirteen grandchildren and one great-grandchild. In addition to his parents he was predeceased by his beloved wife Joan, who died in 1989; one infant son (Richard); and two sisters, Fern Hobbs and Doreen Hobbs.
