RABINOWITZ, Nathan. Peacefully, on Wednesday, December 12, 2012. Beloved husband of the late Shirley Minkowsky. Loving father and father-in-law of Joel and Danielle of Toronto, and Shelley Rabinowitz. Cherished Grandpa of Michael, Brandon, Jordan, Jessica, Stephanie and Brittany. Dear brother-in-law of the late Nelson Minkowsky. Nathan was the sole survivor of his family, who perished in the Holocaust. The family would like to thank the doctors, nurses and staff of 2 North-West at the Jewish General Hospital for their care and compassion. SACHIN, Archie. Peacefully, on Thursday, December 13, 2012, surrounded by his family. Beloved husband of Mildred Glassberg for sixty-two years. Devoted and loving father of Earl and Brenda. Cherished Zaidie of Myles, and Megan Sachin; Jonathan, and Kimberley Kaspy. Dearest brother and brother-in-law of Butsie and Hymie Ginsberg, the late Jack Sachin, and brother-in-law of Jean and the late Ben Kramer, the late Gertie and the late Cecil Gozansky. Archie will be lovingly remembered by his nieces, nephews, family and many dear friends. Devoted father and father-in-law of Judge Irwin and Audrey Lampert, of Moncton, New Brunswick, Beverley and Stephen Bratt. Cherished grandfather of Leigh Lampert and Darcie Richler, Jordan Lampert, Mindy and Derek Applebaum, all of Toronto; Shannon (Bratt) and William Powers of Washington, DC, Andrew and Kari (Flax) Bratt of Toronto. Loving great-grandfather of Max and Sam Lampert. Brother and brother-in-law of the late Abe and the late Luba. Dear brother-in-law of Erma and the late Harry Sholzberg, Dr. Morris and Eleanor Givner. Ruth Surkes

SURKES, Ruth (née Koltz). Born on June 14, 1929 in Montreal, the youngest of six children born to Chana Koltz (née Gelman) and Moishe Koltz. She died on Friday, November 16, 2012 from complications following a fractured hip. Beloved wife of Edward Surkes for sixty-four years, Ruth is survived by their children Mike (Michelle), Rick (Ellie), Jan (Barry), Clara (Meir) grandchildren Ava, Jessica, Robbie, Amanda, Ariela, and Orly, great-grandchildren Prudence, Ethan, and Angela and by her brother Lou Koltz (Mary). She was predeceased by her sisters Shirley, Edith, and Frances, and by her brother Sam. Graveside service on Sunday, November 18, at 1:30 p.m., at the Kehal Israel Cemetery, D.D.O. Shiva following service at the Vista Residence, 5300 Côte St. Luc Road, continuing on Monday from 10:00 a.m. to 12:00 p.m. and 1:00 to 4:00 p.m. Donations in her memory may be made to the Jewish General Hospital Foundation, (514) 340-8251. Max Drabkin

Peacefully, surrounded by family, on Saturday, November 17, 2012, after waging a stellar battle. This remarkable man is survived by and was the devoted husband to his loving wife of sixty-six happy years, Myrtle; extraordinary father and father-in-law of Stanley and Marilyn, Roz and Murray Genis, and Neil; adoring ‘Papa’ of Jason and Samantha, Lorne and Raquel; brother-in-law of Marianna and the late Teddy Honigman; loving uncle of Reina, Irving, Nancy, Malcolm, Ronnie, Heather, Donna, Howard, Rema, David; and great-uncle of Melissa, Michael, Megan, Adam and Ryan; dear friend of Joe Ribkoff and his wife, Natalie, and he will be sadly missed by their children, Raphael and Adam. Sister and sister-in-law of Beno and the late Goldie Eskenazi of Montreal, and Suzie and the late Maurice Kanza, and Rosie and Benjamin Mizrahi, all of Istanbul, and sister-in-law of Iko and Esther Modiano.
