Cherished uncle of Sharon and Ted Ely, Janice, Arlene and Steve Cohen. Great-uncle of David and Jenn, Marc and Cassie, Sean, and Sophie. Dr. Oscar (Sonny) Herscovitch

Peacefully at his home, on Monday, March 4, 2013, in his ninety-fifth year. Devoted husband of the late Goldie Rosen for sixty-eight years. Dear father and father-in-law of Dr. Sheila Joy David and Carlos Delgado, Dr. Joel Allen Herscovitch and Janice Howell. Loving brother of Frances Bacal, the late Sally and the late Moe Goldstein, the late Doris and the late Irving Leibovitch. Brother-in-law of Natalie and the late Stan Litwin of Toronto. Proud grandfather of Daniel Herscovitch and Katie Levy, and Marc Herscovitch. He will be sadly mourned and fondly remembered by his nieces, nephews, family, friends, and all those whose lives he touched. After serving in WWII as a Medical Officer, Dr. Herscovitch had a thriving practice in Family Medicine. When he retired from his private practice, he worked at the Jewish General Hospital Test Centre until he was ninety-one. Two years ago, he was honoured by the JGH for being on Active Medical Staff for sixty-three years. Oscar was a compassionate doctor and a kind, loving man. He will be missed. Funeral service from Paperman & Sons, 3888 Jean Talon St. W., on Thursday, March 7 at 1 p.m. Burial at the Russian Polish Hebrew Cemetery, de la Savane. Reception following the burial at Vista Seniors’ Residence, 5300 ch. de la Côte-Saint-Luc, 3rd floor. Wonderful sister-in-law of Eva Vininsky, the late Saul Zeidel, David and Grace Shugar, Hy and the late Ruth Shugar. She will be fondly remembered by her nieces, nephews, great-nieces, great-nephews, family and friends. Special thanks to her exceptional caregivers.
