In 1928 he purchased his own farm in Osgoode where he raised pure-bred Holstein cattle. Until his marriage to Merva in 1946, he bottled and delivered milk twice daily to the residents of the village of Osgoode, as well as shipping it to Ottawa. In the pre-refrigerator days, his horse drawn milk wagon also carried blocks of ice he had cut from the Rideau River for cooling iceboxes. He retired from farming in 1970. After his retirement, he enjoyed many trips throughout Canada and the United States with Merva in their home-built camper; and later paid frequent visits to Gwen in Calgary. Harold was a faithful member of St. Paul's Anglican Church and a longstanding member of the L.O.L. He greatly enjoyed participating at the Osgoode Drop-In Centre until, at the age of 97 years, he moved from his home into Thorncliffe Senior's Residence to be with his brother. He is survived by his sisters, Laura Taylor of Osgoode and Helen Nixon of Kars.
