Dorothy Grace Lewis (nee Brazier)
January 21, 1914 - February 10, 2012
Dorothy Grace Lewis (nee Brazier) born January 21, 1914, passed away peacefully in Smithers, BC on February 10, 2012 at 98 years of age.
She was predeceased by her husband, Dave, as well as her sister and all four brothers.
She is survived by two sons, Jack (Joanne) Lewis and George (Fran) Lewis, both of Celista, BC, and one daughter, Margaret ( Harvey) Burns of Smithers, BC.
Grandchildren: Theresa (Jody) Bradley, Greg (Robin) Burns, Frank Lewis, Shelley ( Ed) Koski, Ken Lewis, Mark Lewis, Dale (Corinne)Lewis, and Mike ( Debbie) Lewis; as well as 17 great grandchildren and 1 great - great grandchild.

Dorothy was teaching in McCord, Sk. when she met and married Dave Lewis, Jan. 23, 1938, they homesteaded at Rapid View, Sk. for a few years before relocating to Enderby, BC, in 1943. In 1950 they purchased property at Celista, and in 1952 opened the L & S (Lunch & Service) the first cafe and garage in the North Shuswap.
Dorothy was renowned for her delicious pies and homemade bread. Past customers still recall buying whole pies and freshly baked bread to take back home or on to their summer cabins to enjoy. She gradually stocked other necessities not readily available in the a small isolated community that Celista was at that time. Dave passed away in 1961 after which Dorothy phased out the lunch counter and operated the business as a General store until her retirement in Dec. 1979.
For many, many years Dorothy found the time to write a humorous weekly column called "The Celista Signpost" in the Chase Shuswap Weekly, a small newspaper published by "Ma" Murray of Lillooet, that was distributed around the district. When Sally Scales bought out the paper and began publishing the Shoppers Guide in Salmon Arm, Dorothy continued her weekly contribution until her retirement. From 1980 until the present 'Kicker" began publication about the turn of the century, she helped publish a monthly one sheet North Shuswap News Bulletin with other community volunteers.
Dorothy was honoured by The Government of Canada with a commemorative Medal to mark Canada's 125th Anniversary of Confederation in 1993. This medal was presented to Canadians who have made " ... a significant contribution to their fellow citizens, to their community, or to Canada" Canada was, and still is, built by community minded volunteers like Dorothy, the family is very proud of her many accomplishments.
Dorothy has been residing in Smithers BC, with daughter Margaret, since 2004.
A Memorial service was held in Celista Community Hall at 2 PM, Sunday, Feb. 19, 2012. Prior to this, a private family interment service will be held at the cemetery in Celista.
The family wishes to thank all the staff at the Bulkley Lodge for their kindness and caring, especially those in the Blueberry Ward. Special mention and gratitude to Al Schrader and son, Lawrence Schrader, for their thoughtful, kind consideration.

Tom Waterhouse
September 4, 1938 - March 29, 2012
Tom Waterhouse of Kamloops, B.C. passed away on March 29, 2012 at the age of 74 years. He is survived by his loving wife Janet; children Dawn Waterhouse of Port Moody, B.C., Russ Waterhouse of Ho-Ho-Kus, New Jersey; grandchildren Nicole, Natalie, Rachel, Roxanne, Samantha; great grandchild Willow; sister Pat.
Born in England, adventured in Cyprus before settling in Canada in 1974. Tom loved the outdoors, walks amongst the flowers with mum in the high mountain meadows, a round of golf. Above all else he was devoted to his family who shared many special moments together including the recent celebration of 50 years of marriage.
Tom loved to sing and was a part of many groups over the years. Life brought many close friendships from England, through Ontario and on to British Columbia. Dad will always be remembered by the generosity of his heart, sharp sense of humour and time spent helping others. Most of all he is remembered for the love and devotion to Janet who he courted by letter while serving overseas, and met for the first time in a train station - together ever since.
A celebration of Tom’s life will be held on Monday, April 2, 2012 at 11:00 am in the Chapel of Kamloops Funeral Home, 285 Fortune Drive.
A memorial donation in Tom’s memory would be gratefully accepted and may be made to the BCgrasslands.org.
Margaret Isabel Casault (nee Smith)
January 13, 1918 - March 27, 2012
Margaret Isabel Casault of Kamloops, BC passed away on Tuesday, March 27, 2012 at the age of 94 years. Margaret is survived by her loving children Ann (Larrie) Matton of Kamloops, BC, Doug (Sue) Casault of Yorba Linda, California, and Tom Casault of New Westminster, BC; grandchildren Trevor Matton, Amanda Matton; Alexander Casault, and Derreck Casault. She is also survived by numerous nieces and nephews in British Columbia and Alberta.
Margaret was predeceased by her husband Mack, in 1990.
Margaret was born January 13, 1918 in Calgary, Alberta. After moving between Calgary and Edinburgh, Scotland, Margaret settled down in Edmonton, and it was there that she met the love of her life, Mack. She worked for many years at Associated Helicopters. While Margaret especially loved working in her garden, nothing was more important to her than being with her children and grandchildren. In 2006, she moved to Kamloops to be closer to her daughter’s family. She truly enjoyed long walks along the Rivers Trail and every outing was “Grand!” Margaret will be greatly missed by her family and friends.
A special thank you to the Hamlets especially Colleen, Kim, Sharon, Deb and Dennis for all their patience and kindness towards Mom.

Evelyn Miriam Ressler
May 24, 1936 - March 23, 2008
It is with great sadness and sorrow that our family announces the passing of Evelyn Miriam Ressler. After a courageous battle with cancer, God gently called her home on Easter Sunday, March 23rd, 2008 at the age of 71 years.
Evelyn will be deeply missed by her husband Joseph, daughters Brenda (Ian) McGregor, Kelly-Ann (Norm) de Wit, and son Wade (Sheri), and five grandchildren: Madison, Cole, Shawna, Thomas, and Owen. Evelyn will also be missed by her many siblings: Doreen, Leonard, Violet, Lewis, Irene, Eileen, Vivian, Lawrence, Iris, Cheryl and their families.
Evelyn was born in Rich Lake Alberta in 1936. She married Joseph in 1959 and with their three children resided in Kamloops for over 40 years. Evelyn worked at the Ponderosa Lodge for many years and after retirement took great joy in her beautiful gardens, and derived much happiness in entertaining people in her home and back yard. Music was a large part of Evelyn’s life she was often heard humming or singing songs, and was a member of the Sweet Adelines for years. Those numerous gatherings of friends and family in her backyard were always accompanied with singing, guitars, and wonderful food. Evelyn’s greatest joy was her grandchildren, she was very proud of them and spent time reading to them, playing, watching their sports, and just being there for them.
We would like to thank the compassionate staff at the Marjorie Willoughby Snowden Hospice House for the care they provided our mother. We would also like to express our thanks to the Cancer Clinic, particularly Dr. Avanessian for his kind care.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 12:00 p.m. on Saturday, March 29th, at Saint John Vianney Parish in Westsyde, 2826 Bank Road.
Friends and relatives are invited to pay their respects by viewing from 7:00 –8:00 p.m. on Friday, March 28th, in the Rosewood Room at Kamloops Funeral Home, 285 Fortune Drive.
Donations in Evelyn’s memory may be made to the Marjorie Willoughby Snowden House – 72 S Whiteshield Crescent, Kamloops BC V2E 2S9, in lieu of flowers.
Miyoko Shishido
June 2, 1918 - April 7, 2008
Miyoko Shishido of Kamloops passed away peacefully in her sleep on April 7, 2008 at the age of 89 years.
Miyoko will be lovingly remembered by her sons Terry (Beth) and Eric (Maggie); daughter Ruth (Paul) Beday; and her seven grandchildren Tara, Jodi, Kelsey, Craig, Alisha, Todd and Kyle; and two great grandchildren Presley and Aidan. She was predeceased by her husband Masae, in 1996.
Miyoko was born on June 2, 1918 in Vancouver BC. She attended school in Vancouver and graduated from Vancouver College in 1938. Miyoko met her husband Masae in New Denver and they were married in 1943. They returned to Japan, where they stayed for three years, before coming back to Canada to reside in Kamloops. She enjoyed caring for her family, tending to her garden and sewing for family and friends.
Our family would like to give special thanks to the staff of Southpark at Overlander Extended Care for their compassionate care.
The Funeral Service will take place at 1:00 pm on Thursday, April 10, 2008 in the Kamloops Funeral Home Chapel with Pastor Vern Frudd officiating. Following the service, Miyoko will be laid to rest at Hillside Cemetery.
Douglas Love
January 16, 1927 - April 3, 2008
It is with sadness that we announce the passing of Douglas Love on April 3, 2008, at the age of 81, after a short hospital stay.
He was predeceased by his wife Rita on October 10, 2007. Doug is survived by his 3 children, Kim and David of Calgary and Steve (Tami) of Kamloops, and his three grandchildren.
Dad was born in Tuckersmith, Huron Co., Ontario on January 16, 1927. He spent much of his life in the Canadian Forces, serving overseas in Germany and Cypress. Dad transferred to Kamloops in 1975 and served at CFS Mt. Lolo until his retirement in 1977. He operated his own truck catering business for several years in the 1980s before taking permanent retirement.
A Celebration of Dad’s life will take place on Friday, April 11, 2008 between 4:00 and 6:00 pm at 237 Fairview Avenue, Kamloops.
DOROTHY STEFANIK (nee Mihalcheon)
October 13th, 1929 – April 7th 2008
It is with deep sorrow that we announce the passing of our loving mother and beloved grandmother, Dorothy. She passed away on April 7, 2008 at the age of 78 years.
Dorothy will always be remembered by children Janis (Brad) Alexander of Grand Cayman, Allan (Marilyn) Stefanik of Kelowna BC, Gail (Lorne) Klassen of Kamloops, Judy (Daryl) Herman of Kamloops, and Shellie (Rick) Franklin of Kamloops; grandchildren Bonnie Buchanan, Leanne (Jay) Hindle, Lisa (Johnny) Buchanan, Adam Klassen, Katie Klassen, Joshua Herman, Mindy Herman, Kara Herman, Hannah Herman, Arielle Franklin and Haydn Franklin; sister Helen Toma, brother Bill (Tillie) Mihalcheon, and sister Jeanne Kotke; brothers in-law Steve (Olga) Stefanik, Johnny (Helen) Stefanik, Carl (Pat) Stefanik and Bobby (Gail) Stefanik; sisters in-law Agnes Kern, Ann (Gordon) Rogers, and Irene Willman.
She was predeceased by her loving husband Nick Stefanik, parents Moshe and Mica Mihalcheon, brothers Steve, Johnny, Mike & Metro Mihalcheon and sister Mary Toma.
Dorothy was born one of nine children to Mica and Moshe Mihalcheon in Warwick, Alberta. She was raised in Vernon, BC, where she worked with love and compassion at Vernon Jubilee Hospital as a Nurse’s Aide. After marrying her loving husband, Nick Stefanik, the couple moved to Prince George. There she began the lifelong journey of being a loving mother and grandmother to her five children and eleven grandchildren. In 1969 the family settled in Kamloops, BC where Dorothy spent her remaining years. In celebrating her life she will be treasured for her compassion, sense of humour, hospitality and ability to love generously. Gatherings were always at Mom’s where she passed on her Romanian heritage with her famous cabbage rolls and perogies. Mom gave selflessly to her church where she volunteered making and serving soup to those in need. She found great joy and passed many happy hours tending her vegetable and flower gardens. Trips out with her family and meeting for breakfast at A&W were also a tremendous source of pleasure for Mom. Her incredible strength, coupled with gentle grace will continue forever to guide her family onward. She was the gatherer of many and assorted people, and when they left, they knew that there was much love and light in the world, for she graciously shared hers with all.
Her beautiful spirit will live in our hearts eternally
Special thanks to the doctors and nurses at Royal Inland Hospital for the compassionate care and support they provided Dorothy.
Public viewing will take place from 7:00 to 8:00 pm on Friday, April 11, 2008 in the Rosewood Room at Kamloops Funeral Home, and again on Saturday from 12:00 to 1:00 pm.
The Funeral Service will take place at 1:00 pm on Saturday, April 12, 2008 in the Kamloops Funeral Home Chapel with Reverend Boyd Drake officiating. Following the service, Dorothy will be laid to rest at Hillside Cemetery.
