Peacefully passed away with loved ones by his side.
Survived by wife Lorraine; daughter Debbie; grandchildren Shelley & Chad Gray and Craig Frost; son Dale, daughter – in – law Terry; grandchildren Rob, Lee, and Leita.
Funeral service was held Thursday, July 26, 2007 at 2:00 p.m. in the Gladstone United Church. Interment followed in the Gladstone Cemetery.

Earl Clifford Newman
Peacefully on July 20, 2007, Earl Clifford Newman passed away at the age of 87 years at the Seven Regions Health Centre, Gladstone.
Earl was born in Glenhope, Manitoba. He lived and farmed west of Amaranth for many years where he raised sheep, cows and horses. He traveled on his John Deer tractor into Amaranth to do his business at the local store. After retiring Earl then moved to Amaranth in 1991 into a trailer home just north of Amaranth, where he resided until moving to McCreary in 2000. In 2004 he moved to Third Crossing Manor where he has since resided.
Predeceased by his mother Caroline Newman and one uncle William Newman.
Earl leaves to mourn cousin David (Theresa) Stevenson and family, cousin Paul Malony and family, friends Jennette and Jennifer Smith Beaulieu.
Funeral service will be held on Tuesday, July 24, 2007 at 2:00 p.m. in the Amaranth Memorial Hall with Rev. Phyllis Thordarson officiating. Music Trio will be Jeanette Houle, Grace Johnson and Margaret Whitely. Pallbearers will be Otto Kopp, Paul Malony, Edmund Kopp, Rob Robertson, Herman Hoffman and Donald Toms. Interment will follow in the Haven of Rest Cemetery, Amaranth.
If friends so desire, memorial donations may be made to the Heart & Stoke Foundation of Manitoba or to a charity of one’s choice.

Howard McLaren Stanley
It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of our father and grandfather, Howard McLaren Stanley, on July 18, 2007 at the Portage General Hospital at the age of 88 years.
Howard was born on May 6, 1919 in Amaranth, MB where he resided most of his life. He worked for Western Gypsum for several years before enlisting in the army and was sent overseas during World War II for a number of years. He returned to Amaranth and married Marjorie Fredbjornson and had five children : Jim, Bev, Carl, Gary and Ron. He worked in the mine, farmed for a few years and drove truck for Parson’s before starting his own trucking business with his sons. Howard also spent many years as a commercial fisherman on Lake Manitoba until the age of 75. It wasn’t just a job to him. He enjoyed nothing more than pulling in a net full of fish or reeling one in at the end of a rod. Howard also enjoyed hunting, trapping and puttering around in his garden. His green thumb produced many prize-winning gladiolas and an abundant crop of vegetables which he gladly shared with everyone. Howard’s happiest times where when his children and grandchildren were home for the holidays and other occasions throughout the year. He also got a kick out of sitting around the campfire with his grandkids as they roasted marshmallows and told stories. He loved touring the country with friends and family to check out wildlife and nature in general.
Predeceased by his parents Henry and Amber Stanley; wife Marjorie; brothers Roy, Leslie and Carl; sisters Isabelle and Irene; sisters-in-law Lydia and Edith; and brothers-in-law Jim and Steve.
He is survived by his children, Jim (Donna), Bev, Carl (Linda), Gary and Ron (Karlene); 10 grandchildren Allison, Dwayne, Bobbi-Jo, Darrin, Andrea, Jennifer, Amy, Megan, Jared and Jamie; one sister Verna as well as several nieces and nephews.
Funeral service was held on Monday, July 23, 2007 at 2:00 p.m. in the Amaranth Memorial Hall with Rev. Phyllis Thordarson officiating. Interment followed in the Haven of Rest Cemetery, Amaranth. Pallbearers were Wayne Zalluski, Jim Tanner, Carlson Onischuk, Edwin Wiebe, Harry Wiebe and Harold Jonasson. All those in attendance were considered Honorary Pallbearers. Music was provided by Grace Johnson, Jeanette Houle and Margaret Whitely.

Werner Siegfried Ott
Peacefully on June 8, 2007 at 6:00 p.m. Werner Siegfried Ott entered into rest at the East View Lodge, Neepawa, Manitoba.
Werner was born in Triebes, Germany on August 8, 1929. He immigrated to Canada on May 6, 1951 and landed in Halifax then worked for a farmer in Anherst, Nova Scotia. After a year he then continued on to Sudbury, Ontario where he worked as a miner at Falconbridge Nickel Mine.
On March 17, 1956 in Winnipeg, Manitoba he married Anne Ott. They bought a farm in the Glenella area and moved to the farm in April 1958. Werner continued to work at various jobs before the farm was in a productive state. He continued to live on the farm until his health started failing. He had three heart attacks and by-pass surgery in 2002. Werner had a couple of strokes which landed him in the Neepawa Hospital on April 13, 2004. He spent 6 months in Brandon Hospital before moving to East View Lodge on November 16, 2004.
Left to mourn his passing is his wife Anne; sons Richard (Debbie), and Lester (Juanita); daughters Denise (Wes), and Darlene (Rob); grandchildren Christopher, Stephen, Lisa, Nicole, Adam, and Tara; one niece and two nephews in Germany; brothers in-law Henry (Marian), and John (Dora); as well as 2 nieces and nephews in Winnipeg, Manitoba.
Funeral service was held Tuesday, June 12, 2007 at 2:00 p.m. in the Glenella Community Hall with Rev. George Cargo officiating. Presiding at the organ was Edna Single.

Joe Buhr
Passed away accidentally near Gladstone, Manitoba on Saturday, March 17, 2007, Joe Buhr, age 28 years, of Gladstone, Manitoba.
Joe was a vibrant young man full of life with an overwhelming love for his family. He was so proud of his children. Brooklyn was his “Little Princess” and Shane his “Button.” Joe loved to make everyone laugh. In a second he would drop everything to go and help a friend.
His drive and ambition were proven through his many accomplishments. You would never find him without his cold coffee, cell phone, and long johns. Sunday was always his family day to spend with Ainsley, Shane, and Brooklyn. Going to Sandy Lake with his family was something he always looked forward to.
He so enjoyed his trip to California with Youth For Christ and his brother’s wedding in the Dominican Republic. Joe also loved to fish, hunt, and crop check – any excuse to be behind the wheel, but nothing compared to working on the farm with Dad, Mom, and Greg.
Left to cherish his memory is his wife Ainsley, children Brooklyn and Shane, parents Lawrence & Wendy Buhr of Plumas, brother Greg & Jody, nephew Ben of Plumas, mother-in-law JoAnn Beavington of Gladstone, father-in-law Nick & Susan of Gladstone and children Laurie & Jeff and Beau, Kern & Nichole and Morgan, Shea & Amanda, and Patrick & Kira, grandparents Ed & Eva Buhr, Ervin Mauseth, Phyllis Bjarnarson, and June Beavington, as well as numerous aunts, uncles, cousins and many friends.
Funeral service will be held on Thursday, March 22, 2007 at 2:00 p.m. in the Gladstone Christian Fellowship Church with Rev. Randy Fehr and Rev. Ian Olive officiating. Interment will follow in the Gladstone Cemetery.
Friends may call for visitation on Wednesday evening, March 21, 2007 from 7:00 – 8:30 p.m. at Clarke’s Funeral Chapel, Gladstone.
In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to a trust fund set up for Brooklyn and Shane at any branch of the Austin Credit Union.

John (Jack) Oliver
John (Jack) Currie Oliver Passed away at Portage General Hospital on Sunday, March 4, 2007 at the age of 88 years.
Jack was born December 14, 1918 and raised in Southern Saskatchewan. He moved with his family to Portage la Prairie. He married Betty McIntosh in 1946 and resided in Portage. In 1949 they moved to Lakeland where they farmed. He also worked as a crop insurance adjuster for a time. They returned to live in Portage in 2005. Jake was very involved in community activities.
He is survived by his wife Betty; his son Jim (Karen) Oliver of Lakeland, MB; his daughters Judy (Richard) Opfergelt of Barrier Ford, SK and Alice (Maarten) Van Otterloo of Walnut Creek, CA; as well as seven grandchildren; six great grandchildren; and numerous nieces and nephews.
A memorial service was held on Thursday, March 8, 2007 at 2:00 p.m. in the McKenzie United Church, Portage with Rev. Marg Scott officiating and Rosemarie Holtmann presided at the organ. Interment took place at 11:00 a.m. Thursday, March 8, 2007 at the Lakeland Cemetery.

David Laurie Smith
Passed away peacefully at 4:20 a.m. on October 24, 2007, Laurie Smith, age 95 years and 5 months, beloved husband of the late Ella Whittier, father of Lauraine Syrnick, grandfather to Kelvin Syrnick (Shirley), Winnipeg, and Karen McDonald (Andrew) of White Rock, B.C., “Big Pappa Bear” to great grandchildren Nicholas, Julia, Jessica and Alexander, brother to four sisters Ruth Fletcher of Stratford, Ontario, Ada Booth of MacGregor, Elizabeth Price of Ajax, Ontario, and Hattie Pearson of Brandon, Manitoba, brother-in-law to Bob Whittier (Pat) of Brantford, Ontario, Doris Smith of Dryden, Ontario, Ivy Whittier of Cambridge, Ontario and Violet Earnshaw of Thunder Bay, Ontario. Laurie is also survived by many nieces and nephews.
Laurie was predeceased by his wife Ella Beatrice Whittier after celebrating their 60th wedding anniversary, his parents, a stillborn daughter, his 5 brothers Jim, Ernie, Doug, Fred, and Norman, son-in-law Zenon Syrnick and brothers-in-law Harry and Jim Whittier, Dave Pearson, Strath Booth, and Al Fletcher.
Laurie was the third child and oldest son born to Nelson James Smith and Jessie Jane Hird, both children of early Manitoba pioneers. Laurie was born in Kinosota in 1912 and in 1916 the family moved to a Bagot district farm. The family moved to a farm at the east end of MacGregor in 1923 and Laurie attended the MacGregor School. He worked for pioneer Sam Little, the Berry Service Station, and then had his own cream truck business for many years until starting a machine shop. In 1963 Laurie and Ella opened Home Supply in MacGregor, retail sales and repairs of TVs.
In his younger years Dad was a member of the local curling club and latterly he and Mom were members of the Portage Horseshoe Club, Portage Seniors Bowling League, MacGregor Seniors Club, MSOS, and the Herman Prior Centre. Laurie lived out his life in MacGregor and was an honest, kindly and caring man. Ever the gentleman, Laurie has left many loving and fond memories of his quick wit, humour and ever ready smiles and winks.
In accordance with his wishes, cremation has taken place and a memorial service was held on Saturday, October 27, 2007 at 11:00 a.m. in the MacGregor United Church with Sandra Rex officiating. Interment followed in the MacGregor Cemetery.

It is with great and deep sorrow that we announce the passing of our wonderful, dearly loved sister, Mary (Bopeep) after a short battle with cancer. Mary was a devoted mother, daughter, sister, auntie, great aunt (Koko, which she didn’t allow great nieces and nephews to call her).
Mary was predeceased by her father Harold Mousseau (1985), sister Margaret (1950) and brother Garry (1951), grandparents Laurent and Alice Beaulieu (nee Paul), paternal grandma Victoria Robinson (1964), step-grandfather William James Mousseau (1970), husband Gerry Deleurme (2003), and nephew Arnold (Smart) Mousseau (2006).
She is survived by her sons Baby Gerry and Christopher, companion Stanford Roulette (Fah-faht), her mother Lena Mousseau (nee Beaulieu), brothers Arnold (Genevieve), Ron, her Rock of Gibraltar, (Catherine), Rick (Geraldine), Billy (Doris), Cecil (Judy), and Thomas (Marlene), sisters Valerie (Oliver), Donna, Wendy, Laura (Russell), and Mona (Barney), many nieces and nephews too numerous to mention, as well as special friends Betty Houle, Denise West, Darlene Mousseau (Darlene J), and Shirley French.
Mary was a very upbeat and happy person and lived life to the fullest. Mary was a people person and was never afraid to approach anyone. Bopeep made lasting friendships easily, had many friends and touched many lives. Her greatest love was to be around people and never missed any Mud Bogs or social events. Her laughter and carefree nature will not be easily matched and will be greatly missed.
We love you Bopeep.
A wake was held Tuesday evening, October 23, 2007 at the Sandy Bay Community Complex, Sandy Bay First Nation, Manitoba.
Funeral service was held on Thursday, October 25, 2007 at 2:00 p.m. in Our Lady Of Guadalupe Catholic Church, Sandy Bay, Manitoba. Pallbearers were Maxine Roulette, Rose-Anne Mousseau, Lana Roulette, Vicki Ranville, Alice Mousseau, Valine Racette, Monique Mousseau, Bettina Roulette, and Bettsy Mousseau. All of Mary Bopeep’s family members and special friends are considered honourary pallbearers. Interment followed in the Sandy Bay Cemetery.
