SUSANA (HARDER) ENNS
1911-2002

Our beloved mother and grandmother, Susana Enns of Steinbach, Man., went to be with her Lord Dec. 21, 2002 at 1:15 a.m. with her family at her side. She reached the age of 91 years, six months and 20 days.
Mom was born to Diedrich and Susana Harder on June 1, 1911 in Blumengard, Man. Being the youngest, she was the one left to help the parents. When her father developed tuberculosis, life became difficult financially and physically. At 19 years old, it was difficult for her to look after the needs of the family.
She attended German School for a couple of years and then continued on to grade 8 in English at Moray School. She had a love for learning and was an avid reader until recently when her eyesight deteriorated to a point where she found it difficult.
In 1933 she was baptized upon the confession of her faith in the Chortitzer Mennonite Conference, where she remained a faithful member until her death.
Mom lived on the farm with her mother until her marriage to Abram Enns on July 12, 1934. They began their married life on a farm in the same district, where they lived for 42 years. Her mother lived with them for 13 of these years. Being blessed with six children, these years were busy - raising children, working on the farm, sewing, planting large gardens and many flowers. We all have fond memories of growing up. Mom always took time to teach us and got involved in our many projects. She has left us all with a sense of creativity. In 1963, Dad and Mom were ordained as a deacon couple and served in the Silberfeld and Mitchell churches for 23 years. Mom was always a willing servant in the church and served on many committees.
Upon retirement, Mom and Dad moved to Mitchell, Man., where they lived for 10 years. Numerous trips were made with MDS, as well as two trips to Paraguay. In 1986, they sold their home in Mitchell and moved to Steinbach, Man., where they lived until Dad's sudden death on Aug. 4, 1987. Here her strength and determination were apparent in recovering from the accident and learning to live on her own. She moved to Fernwood Place, which became her home for the next 15 years, making many friends and enjoying the programs and activities. During these years, she was always eager to go out for lunch or supper with her family; in fact, often absolutely insistent on it.
She experienced fairly good health. However in the last years her arthritis became more painful and more debilitating. Her dependence on us grew both emotionally and physically. She also needed extra care from Home Care for her physical needs. Even though she was dependent on us, her concern for her children and grandchildren was always very apparent. For our family gatherings, in her mind she was still in charge, even though we did all the work.
Over the past couple of years her physical needs were becoming greater. In October 2002 she moved to the Bethesda Place (PCH). Here, her friendliness and love for people again won her respect and friendships with the staff and residents.
Mom is predeceased by her parents, her husband Abram, her brothers and sisters, and three grandsons.
She leaves to mourn her six children: Mary (Bill) Martens of Brandon, Man., Dick (Nettie) Enns of Ste. Anne, Man., Betty (Jake) Friesen of Kleefeld, Man., Agnes (Dennis) Penner of Pickering, Ont., Linda (Tony) Sawatzky of Ste. Anne, Alda (Philip) Hildebrand of Landmark, Man.; 21 grandchildren and 24 great-grandchildren.
A special thank you to the Home Care staff and Bethesda Place staff for the care and friendship they gave to Mom.
The funeral service took place Dec. 24, 2002, 11 a.m., at the Silberfeld CMC, with interment in the churchyard cemetery.

ANDRÉ COURCELLES
Peacefully, Thursday, April 8, 2004, André Courcelles passed away at the Health Sciences Centre at the age of 68 years.
He will be lovingly remembered by his beloved wife, Anita "Ma Chérie" (née Desrosiers); his children, Paulette, Robert (Stephanie), Doris (Allan) Penner, Louis (Theresa), Elaine (Ken) Hassan; and daughter-in-law, Linda Boily (Mario). He is also survived by his grandchildren, Valerie, Louis, Danielle, Monique, Megan, Brett, Colleen (Wayne), Samantha (Robin), Kevin, Janelle, Tia, Tommy and Veronica; and great-grandchild, Monica; his three brothers, Jean-Baptiste, Paul and Henri; his three sisters, Thérèse Berthelette, Marie-Ange Gagnon and Agathe Courcelles.
André was predeceased by his first wife, Lorette; his son, Richard; his parents, Wilfrid and Delphine; his brother, Adélard; and his sister, Yvonne Courcelles.
The family would like to extend a special thank you to all the staff at the HSC who cared for André and made his last days comfortable and dignified. Thank you also to André's family physician, Dr. M. Duerksen of Steinbach and to Father Ron Léger for always being there for him.
Dad, you will always be remembered and loved as a loving husband, father, grandfather and great-grandfather. You were a very caring and compassionate man, who was always there to lend a helping hand.
Funeral mass was celebrated by Father Ron Léger at the Holy Family Church, 778 Archibald St. in St Boniface, Tuesday, April 13 at 2 p.m. Viewing began a half hour prior to the mass, at 1:30 p.m.
Interment took place in the St Malo Parish Cemetery in St Malo, Man.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in André's memory to the Canadian Liver Foundation (Manitoba Chapter), P.O. Box 1943, Winnipeg, MB, R3C 3R2 or to a charity of one's choice.

ARTHUR (PUDDY) BESTLAND
May 20, 1940 - April 10, 2004
It is with great sadness that the family announces the passing of Art Bestland at the DeSalaberry District Health Centre in St Pierre-Jolys, Man., Saturday, April 10, 2004 at the age of 63 years.
Art will be lovingly remembered by his wife, Carmelle; his daughters, Sherry (Paul), Monica (Richard); his son, Bradley; his grandsons, Stephane, Colin, Dillon, Shayne, William, Tristan, Jordan and Riley; his granddaughter, Chloe; his brothers, John (Gaylene), Orson (Gloria), Randy (Lynn), and Roy; his sisters, Sophie (Jack), Glenda (Bob), Cindy (Jack), and Wendy (Darcy) as well as numerous nieces, nephews, cousins and many special friends, especially Alice Nault and family, Ernie Tanchuk and Orvil Anderson.
Art was born and raised in Brunkild, Man. and had resided in St Pierre-Jolys for the last 33 years. Art always lived his life in the moment and never worried about tomorrow. He spent much of his life travelling the highways of Manitoba in search of tractors and antiques. Through his journeys, he made many friends and touched the lives of many people.
The family would like to extend a special thank-you to Dr. Schroeder and the CancerCare team at the Health Sciences Centre, as well as the doctors and staff at the DeSalaberry District Health Centre in St Pierre-Jolys.
Memorial services for Art will be held at the St Pierre Roman Catholic Church in St Pierre-Jolys, Thursday, April 15 at 7 p.m. Father Marcel Carrière will celebrate the memorial mass, assisted by Father Benjamin Kazadi-Shabani.
Private interment will take place at a later date.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in Art's memory to the Arthritis Society of Manitoba, 105 - 386 Broadway Ave., Winnipeg, MB, R3E 0V9.

MINTIE TOEWS BRAUN
SEPTEMBER 14, 1919 - APRIL 11, 2004
On April 11, 2004 at the age of 84 years, Mintie Toews Braun (nee Barkman) of Steinbach, passed away at the Bethesda Hospital.
She will be lovingly remembered by her children: daughter Sandra (Brian); "son" Karl Zeif (Brenda), sons: Werner (Dorothy), Leonard (Edna), Peter (Sherry); daughters: Anne (Guy), Jesse (Ed) and Anita (Ralph); grandchildren: April, Ashley, Jeff, Julie, Sherri, Greg, Jody, Michelle, Melanie, Don, Jeremy, Jen, Elizabeth, Jacqueline, Noel, Crystal and Aimee; 10 great-grandchildren; brothers: Levi (Laura), Gordon (Norma), John; sisters: Rose (Jac), Shirley (Al) and Betty Anne.
She was predeceased by daughter Sharon Jacqueline; her first husband Bill; her parents Jacob R. and Helena Barkman; brothers: Harvey, Lawrence and Peter, second husband David.
The family would like to express our appreciation to Dr. Wilf Kaethler and all main floor staff, especially Lynn, Herta, Wilma, and Joanne for the loving care given to Mintie.
As a young married couple, Mintie and Bill owned and operated Steinbach Bakery. After they sold the bakery they opened a children's clothing store called "Youngtown". When Bill passed on, she sold the store and went to work at the Royal Bank.
After she married David they went to work at an orphanage in Germany, accompanied by David's two young children. Later she was involved with the Steinbach M.C.C. Thrift Store, where she served as president for several years. Shortly after David died she moved to Fernwood where she spent many happy years until ill health took over recently.
Many will remember Mintie for the after game lunches she provided, for the Husky's hockey team; the team that her brothers played for and her husband, Bill refereed.
Funeral service was held Wednesday, April 14, 2004 at 2:00 PM at Evangelical Mennonite Church, 422 Main Street, Steinbach, Manitoba. Viewing was held 1 hour prior to the service. Officiating the service is Pastor Hans Rahn. Interment followed at Memorial Cemetery, Steinbach with Larry Hirst officiating. Following the interment friends and family fellowshiped together at the EMC Fellowship Hall on Main Street.

NETTIE BADIUK (nee Mydaniuk)
April 24, 1944 - April 3, 2004
After a brief struggle with cancer, Nettie passed away peacefully at the Health Sciences Centre.
Nettie is survived by her husband Jack and son Ted; sisters, Sophie (Lanard Zushman) of Vita, Man., and Mary (Vic Trelinski) of Winnipeg, Man.; brothers John of Steinbach, Man., Nick and Shirley Mydaniuk of Sundown, Man.; numerous nieces and nephews.
She was predeceased by her father John in November, 1988, mother Lena in July, 1999, and sister Olga Tourand in July, 1981.
Nettie will be fondly remembered as the best homemaker. She enjoyed baking, and keeping in touch with her friends, especially Joyce.
Prayers were said Wednesday, April 7 at Cropo Funeral Chapel. Funeral was held Thursday, April 8 at Cropo Chapel with Rev. Fr. Cornell Zubritsky officiating. Burial took place at the All Saints Cemetery.
Pallbearers were Bill and Dennis Badiuk, Boris Myskowsky, Lanard Zushman, Bill Nanka, and Nestor Chubaty.

MARIA PETERS (nee Friesen)
June 29, 1908 - April 10, 2004
It is with sadness the family announces the passing of our mother and grandmother, Maria Peters. She passed away peacefully, with her family at her side, at the Rest Haven Nursing Home, April 10, 2004, at the age of 95.
Maria was predeceased by her husband Henry; son Kenny; parents, Klass K. and Maria Friesen; stepmother Lena Friesen; sister Margaret Reimer (Alf); brothers: Jacob, Cornie and Frank Friesen; sister-in-law Margaret Friesen (Jacob); and brother-in-law Dietrich Friesen (Helen).
Maria will be missed by her children: Norma and Floyd Hiebert and Ray and Nicky Peters; grandchildren: Cheryl Hiebert (Norm), Jane Hiebert, David Hiebert, Chris Peters (Vika), Curtis Peters (Valerie) and Tammy Bulat (Jarrett); sister Helen Friesen; sisters-in-law: Margaret Friesen (Cornie), Margaret Friesen (Frank), Gertie Peters (Jake); brother-in-law Alf Reimer; and many nephews, nieces and cousins.
The family wishes to thank the dedicated staff at Rest Haven Nursing Home for their gentle and loving care of our mother.
The funeral service was held Tuesday, April 13, 11 a.m., at the Steinbach Evangelical Mennonite Church, 422 Main Street, with viewing one hour prior to the service. Interment was held at Memorial Cemetery.

ISAAC (IKE) FRIESEN
Feb. 15, 1927 - April 6, 2004
After a lengthy illness and a four-month stay in the hospital, Ike went to be with his Lord and Savior on April 6, 2004. Ike was born Feb. 15, 1927 to Cornelius and Helena Friesen, in Horndean, Man. He was predeceased by his parents, one sister and one brother.
He leaves to mourn his passing, but celebrating his life, his loving wife Sarah; daughters, Lenora (Lawrence) Penner of Maryfield, Sask. and Anny (Walter) Tielman of Winnipeg, Man.; sons, Gerry (Ruth) of Abbotsford, B.C. and Dale (Heather) Friesen of La Broquerie, Man.; 10 grandchildren; two brothers; four sisters; and their families.
Ike enjoyed 52 wonderful years of marriage to Sarah. The last 10 years were difficult with Ike's failing health, but his love to her and the Lord remained strong. Ike began his career as a manager of Kraft Foods, and Med-o-land in Grunthal, Man. He then worked as an engineer for G. Dueck & Son in Niverville, Man. In Niverville he also began a business in plumbing, heating and refrigeration. Ike and Sarah moved to Winnipeg in the fall of 1981 and continued their business, adding on water conditioning.
Funeral services were held April 10 in the Winnipeg Evangelical Church, with Pastor Ron Koleba officiating. Interment was in the Grunthal Cemetery. Donations may be made to the Gideon Bible Memorial Fund, of which Ike was a 40-year member.
