ANNA FRIESEN
March 25, 2003, at the Bethesda Hospital in Steinbach, Man., Anna Friesen, wife of Frank T. Friesen of Steinbach, passed away at the age of 92 years and 3 months.
Anna was born Dec. 25, 1910, to Diedrich and Helena Neufeld in Osler, Sask.
In 1980 she married Frank T. Friesen and took on a family of 10 children and their families. They moved to Steinbach, and Dec. 10, 2002 she was transferred to Bethesda Hospital, where her earthly journey ended on March 25.
Left to mourn her passing are her husband, Frank T. Friesen; stepchildren: John (Eva) of Grunthal, Man., Peter (Tina) of Giroux, Man., Hilda (Nick) Lenenja of B.C., Kate (Jacob) Fehr of Grunthal, Marie (Frank) Goertzen of Keliher, Sask., Frank (Manda) of Grunthal, Anne Martens of Winnipeg, Man., Jacob (Irene) of Grunthal, Eva (Barry) Oliver of Lake Frances, Man., Richard (Karen) of Kleefeld, Man.; sister Maria Peters of Steinbach; and brother Cornelius in Paraguay; as well as many grandchildren, relatives and friends.
She was predeceased by her first husband, Henry R. Peters in 1978; a stepdaughter Helen; and two grandchildren.
Funeral services will be held Saturday, March 29, 2 p.m., at the Sommerfeld Mennonite Church at New Bothwell, with Rev. Henry T. Schroeder officiating. Interment will follow in the church cemetery.
Friends may pay their last respects Friday, March 28, 7-8 p.m. at Loewen Funeral Chapel (devotional at 8 p.m.) and at the church one hour prior to the service.
The family would like to thank Dr. Fast and the nursing staff at Bethesda Hospital for their compassion and care, and also Rev. Henry and Annie Schroeder for their frequent visits, which she so greatly appreciated.

STANLEY WASKUL
Stanley Waskul, age 70, passed away March 23, 2003 at Roseau Area Hospital.
Stanley was born June 23, 1932 to Mike and Helen (Wolfe) Waskul at Stuartburn, Man. He married Helen Cherewayko May 24, 1958 in Sundown, Man. He worked for the CN Railroad for seven years and also worked for Sandilands Forest Products for 12 years. He moved to Sprague, Man. in 1964.
He enjoyed time with his many grandchildren, as well as hunting, fishing, and blueberry picking.
Stanley is survived by his wife Helen; seven children, Rose (Jeff) Holme of Steinbach, Man., Mike (Rose) of Ross, Man., Andy (Mary) of Sprague, Ron (Karen) of Salol, Minn., Barb (Mike) Hahn of Brooks, Minn., Wayne (Tammy) of Steinbach, John of Sprague; 14 grandchildren; two great-grandchildren; three brothers and six sisters, Mary (Nick), Rose, Annie, Bernice, Edna (Jim), Elsie (Marvin), Nick (Eva), Karl (Margaret), Frank (Mary).
He was preceded in death by his parents, Mike and Helen, as well as a sister Jenny and a brother John.
Funeral services will be held in Middlebro, Man., at the Middlebro Community Hall, Saturday, March 29 at 1 p.m.
ANDRÉ HÉBERT
At the De Salaberry Health Center in St. Pierre-Jolys, Man., André Hébert of St-Malo passed away March 22, 2003 at 86 years of age.
He will be missed by one brother Laurent (wife Léa), one brother-in-law Leslie Closson, and numerous nephews and nieces.
André was predeceased by his parents, Évariste and Donalda (Tétreault) Hébert; four sisters, Marie Hébert, Cécile Closson, Joséphine Sanche and husband Jean-Noël, Thérèse Sanche and husband Marcien; four brothers and their wives, Joseph (Rose-Alma), Cyrille (Adélina), Lévis (Gertrude) and Ernest (Dorothée). André was born in St. Malo, Man., Nov. 3, 1916. He resided all his life on the ancestral homestead working as a grain farmer. He was a man of great faith in God and true devotion to the Virgin Mary
Mass was celebrated by Father Joseph Choiselat, assisted by Deacon Louis Gosselin, on March 25, 2:30 p.m., in the St. Malo Roman Catholic Church.
Interment has taken place in the St. Malo parish cemetery following Mass.
The family wishes to thank Drs. K. Becker and R. Strank and the staff at the De Salaberry Health Center for the good care given to André. Thank you also to all those who have helped in any way.

PATRICIA ELIZABETH HORCH (nee Geard)
Feb. 5, 1954 - March 22, 2003
Peacefully, after a courageous battle with cancer, Pat went to be with her Lord and Saviour, at the age of 49. She leaves to mourn her passing her husband of 31 years, Stan Horch; son Scott (Penni) and daughter Melanie (Leonard); grandchildren, Brianna and Abigail; sisters, Kathy Bristow (Dave) and Leah Wiebe (Peter); grandmother Beth Graham; mother-in-law Bertha Horch; brothers and sisters-in-law, Phil and Annalora Horch, Frank and Linda Friesen, John and Naomi Wall, Dave and Brenda Horch, Mark and Karen Horch and Jim and Shirley Horch; her Uncle Eldon Graham; and many nieces, nephews and cousins.
Pat was born Feb. 5, 1954 in Selkirk, Man. She moved to Winnipeg, Man. in 1969 where she met her husband Stan. They were married in 1971. She adored her husband, children and grandchildren.
Pat spent most of her working career in the insurance industry where she enjoyed working with her co-workers. She spent 11 years at Harvest Insurance in Steinbach, and the last six years at Dowling Insurance in Winnipeg.
Pat's family would like to thank the doctors, nurses and staff on 5B at the St. Boniface Hospital for all their tender care towards her.
Funeral service was held Wednesday, March 26, 2003, 11 a.m., at Albright Evangelical Church, 3400 DeVries Ave., with Pastor Neill Stitt officiating. Viewing was prior to the service. Interment followed in Brookside Cemetery, 3001 Notre Dame Ave. In lieu of flowers, if friends desire, donations may be made to the Canadian Cancer Society, 193 Sherbrook St., Winnipeg, MB, R3C 9Z9.

BEN BUHR
A brave and wonderful man left us March 23, 2003 to be with his Lord and Savior. Ben was born in St. Elizabeth, Man., April 5, 1929. He married Helen (Hiebert) on Nov. 15, 1958. After a few years of farming, Ben and Helen moved to Steinbach, Man., where they raised their three children. He had a passion for farming and thoroughly enjoyed owning and operating B & B Dairy Farm Supplies. It was a great joy for him to teach Sunday School for many years. Ben and Helen enjoyed three years of house parenting at the Kindale Manor.
He leaves to cherish his memory and celebrate his life, his beloved wife of 44 years, Helen (Hiebert); his son Thomas; his daughters, Ruth (J.D.) Lees and Debi; and his granddaughters, Payton and Reagan.
He is also survived by his brothers, John (Julie), Ed, Paul (Tillie), Abe (Barbara), Dave (Anne), Henry (Bernice); his sisters, Doris Gerbrandt, Agnes (Wib) Hewitt, Kathleen (Henry) Rempel; his in-laws Jake Friesen, Eva Buhr; and many nieces and nephews.
He was predeceased by his parents, Peter and Tina Buhr; his sister Lydia Friesen; and his brother Bill Buhr.
The family thanks Dr. Minnaar and the nurses and staff at Bethesda Hospital for their compassionate care.

BERNARD FUNK
1914 - 2003
It is with deepest sorrow, Monday, April 14, 2003 at the Bethesda Hospital in Steinbach, Man., we announce the passing of our beloved husband, father, grandfather and great-grandfather, Bernard Funk, age 89, born Jan. 13, 1914.
Ben was predeceased by his father Abram; his mother Anna; his first wife Margaret Janzen; his brothers, Henry and Neil; and sister Mary Janzen (nee Funk).
He leaves to mourn his wife Margaret; sisters, Betty, Ann, Tina (Henry) and Susie (John); and brother, Abram (Mary); his children, Stanley (Ann), Lorne (Margaret), Ralph (Illona), Ken (Florence), Florence (Dave), Lydia (Ray), and Victor (Nicole); 24 grandchildren and nine great-grandchildren; and numerous nieces and nephews.
Ben was a dairy farmer in the Clarkleigh area and retired in 1974, at which time he moved to Steinbach and worked for Nelson River Construction for two summers and 14 years at Friendly Family Farms.
Ben was a loving, kind-hearted man and everyone knew him for his great sense of humor and his acceptance of all the people he met. He loved being with his family and especially enjoyed the big gatherings.
We wish to thank Dr. Doerksen and the staff of Bethesda Hospital, Pastor John Neufeld for his support, and all the prayers and support from friends and family.
Viewing for Bernard Funk will be held Saturday, April 19, at Loewen Funeral Chapel, from 7-8 p.m., with a devotional to follow. Services will be held Monday, April 21, 2 p.m. at the Christian Fellowship Church, 417 Hanover Street, Steinbach.

EDMOND ROSS
After a courageous battle with cancer, Edmond (Eddy) Ross of Woodridge, Man., passed away at the St Boniface General Hospital, Monday, April 14, 2003. Eddy was born in Winnipeg, Man., July 26, 1978. He was employed at McPhillips Street Station as a maintenance technician.
Eddy will be missed by his loving wife Lisa (nee Auch) and their six-month-old son Ian; mother Marie Gauthier-Richardson and husband Gary; father Steve Ross and wife Carole; sister Chantal Ross and friend Lee Nolin; brother Noel Ross and wife Jennifer; stepbrother Marcus Richardson and wife Charlene of West Vancouver, BC; stepsister Janette Richardson and friend Jason Hedley; stepsisters, Corinne Bruce and friend Sylvain Dicarie of Montreal, Quebec and Bonnie Bruce; nephews, Tyler, Brendan and Noah; nieces, Jasmine, Brittany, Brooklynne, Marisa, Trinity; grandparents, Edmond and Marcelle Gauthier of St Labre, Man. and Leo and Elizabeth Ross of Ste Anne; as well as numerous aunts, uncles and cousins. He will also be sadly missed by the Auch family, father- and mother-in-law, Dennis and Penny Auch, brothers-in-law, Trevor and wife Crystal, Danny and fiancée Naomi Adams, Chad and wife Maida; sisters-in-law, Pam and Greg Desorcy and Candace.
Eddy was predeceased by his uncles, Henry Ross and Kim Alguire in 1999; his infant daughter Maelynne in May of 2000, who, we are all sure, will be there to greet him as he takes his next journey.
Gratitude is extended to the Auch family, who loved him dearly and who opened up their home to both Eddy and Lisa, so that Eddy could recuperate in the country. His favorite place was Woodridge.
Eddy always remained positive during his fight with cancer and was an inspiration to all of us. Despite his illness, he never stopped thinking of others and always placed family and friends ahead of himself. His final thoughts were of his wife Lisa and his six-month-old "miracle" son Ian.
He passed away surrounded by those he loved and will be forever remembered for his quick mind and caring personality.
Special thanks are extended to Dr. Ralph Wong and the staff at CancerCare Manitoba, as well as the staff of 5B at St Boniface Hospital for their valiant efforts to make Eddy comfortable during his last days.
A funeral service celebrating Eddy's life will be held Tuesday, April 22, 10 a.m., at St Timothy's Parish, 135 John Forsyth Road.

MARGARETE DOERKSEN
After a lengthy stay at the Rest Haven Nursing Home, Margarete Doerksen, aged 97 years, passed away April 12, 2003, at the Rest Haven Nursing Home, Steinbach, Man.
She was predeceased by her parents, Henry and Katharina Doerksen; seven brothers, Abraham, Heinrich, Jacob, David, Johann, Peter and Bernard; four sisters, Katharina, Helena, Sara, Maria; and one half-sister, Anna.
Margarete leaves to mourn her passing many nieces and nephews, relatives and friends.
Funeral services were held April 16, 2003, 2 p.m., at Loewen Funeral Chapel, Steinbach, with viewing one hour prior to the service. Interment followed at the Silberfeld Chortitzer Mennonite Church Cemetery.

NOËL CLEMENT JOSEPH TOUROND
Dec. 25, 1945 - April 10, 2003
It is with great sorrow and sadness that we announce the sudden passing of our dear son, husband, father, grandfather and brother, Noël.
Noël was predeceased by his sister Rita; first wife Olga (nee Mydaniuk); and father Leo Tourond.
He is survived by his beloved wife, Rose; and children, Eva and Loyd; his grandson Bailey and mother Adrianne. He also leaves to mourn his brothers, George, Raymond, Eugene, Phil, Bruce; and sisters, Lorraine, Eleanor, Irene, May, Edith, Joyce and Stella, and all their spouses. He will also be greatly missed by his nieces and nephews, and countless friends.
Noël loved the outdoors. He enjoyed going on hunting trips up north with his neighbor and friend, Dave, and always had many stories to tell when he returned. He loved working in his garage and being in the bush, cutting wood. He worked very hard all his life, but still found time to pick wildflowers for Rose on the way home. He would often be heard bragging about his grandson Bailey. He loved him very much and Bailey enjoyed spending time with Grandpa, in his garage. His family was very important to him, and everyone will feel a great loss without him.
Noël was a special man. He was committed to following the Lord and planned to serve Him through helping those in need. Countless nights were spent helping people with their vehicles, or whatever they might have needed. He never seemed to mind, no matter how tired he was, and welcomed everyone with open arms. Noël had a gift of finding the good side of everything and was wonderful to be around.
It is with great sorrow that we let him go, but find peace in the knowledge that he's safe in the arms of Jesus.

A devotional was held Tuesday, April 15, 2003, 7 to 8 p.m., at the Marchand Chapel. Funeral service was held Wednesday, April 16, 11 a.m., at the Gospel Chapel in La Broquerie. A fellowship lunch followed the service at the Marchand Hall. Interment followed the fellowship lunch in the Sandilands Cemetery.
