PHYLLIS SOBERING
Peacefully, Tuesday, June 15, 2004, our wife and mother went to be with her Saviour. She passed away quietly at home in her sleep, after a courageous battle with cancer.
Phyllis was born to Ed and Grace Heckert, Aug. 24, 1961 in Steinbach, Man. She was baptized and confirmed her faith in the St. Paul Lutheran Church in Steinbach.
At the age of 21, she met Larry Sobering and they were married Feb. 5, 1983. She was blessed with two sons, Christopher and Kevin. Phyllis loved to talk on the phone for hours and hours. She loved to go for rides in the country with her Timmies coffee. She had a weekly breakfast date with friends at the Frantz and enjoyed spending time with her family.
She is survived by her husband of 21 years, Larry; and two sons, Christopher and Kevin. She is also survived by her mother, Grace Heckert; her sisters, Toni and James Sobering of La Ronge, Sask.; Cari Heckert of Steinbach; and one brother, Mike and Debbie Heckert of Steinbach; nieces and nephews; Larry's family and countless friends and family members. Phyllis was predeceased by her father Ed in 1996.
The funeral service will be held Friday, June 18, 2 p.m., at the St. Paul Lutheran Church in Steinbach. Viewing will be held Thursday, June 17, 7 to 8 p.m., also at the church, and prior to the service. Interment will follow at the St. Paul Lutheran cemetery, Hwy. 12 South. Pallbearers will be Christopher Sobering, Kevin Sobering, Mike Heckert, Cari Heckert, Natasha Zlipko and Garrett Doerksen.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Canadian Cancer Society or the St. Paul Lutheran Church.
The family wishes to thank Dr. Krahn, the doctors and nurses at D6 at the Health Sciences Centre, the nurses and palliative care program at the Bethesda Hospital.

Mason Carter Broesky
Dec. 21, 2003 — July 3, 2004
After living a life filled with love, joy, and laughter, our sweet baby boy Mason left this earth to begin his journey in heaven. He fought so hard for his little life, but God had another path for him to take. He blessed our lives and touched our hearts with his joyous spirit, his contagious smile, and the twinkle in his eyes.
He leaves to cherish his memory, his loving parents Wayne and Carol, sister Brittney, brother Riley, and many family and friends.
Mason was our shooting star, beautiful to see, but gone far too quickly. He will be our guardian angel and a part of our lives, watching from above.
We thank the awesome doctors, nurses, and staff of the PICU of the Children's Hospital. We are deeply touched by the loving care they gave Mason and our family. Donations may be made to the Children's Hospital PICU in memory of Mason.
The funeral service was held Wednesday, July 7, 2004 at Birchwood Funeral Chapel. Interment at Heritage Cemetery.

MARGARET DUECK
Margaret was born in Kleefeld, Manitoba on January 31, 1917 to Henry R. and Katharina Dueck. Her mother died when she was four years old. Her father remarried in 1923 to Elizabeth Brandt. Margaret was the second youngest of 13 children. She was predeceased by her parents and her siblings. Her husband Martin B. Dueck died in 1979. Margaret leaves to mourn; her daughter Marion and husband Dave Warkentin and their children Dale, Caris and Nathan Wylie, Leanne and boyfriend Steve Doerksen, as well as her son Melvin and wife Sara Dueck and their children Bethany and Michael.
Margaret married Martin on May 30th, 1943. Martin and Margaret ran a honey farm for most of their married life. Although their home was in Kleefeld, their beehives were in many areas of Manitoba. Even though Margaret had polio since 1955, she always worked hard taking care of her family's needs, cooking meals for hungry workers and tending a large garden.
After she accepted Jesus Christ as her personal Savior, she was baptized by her father and joined the Kleinegemeide Church in Kleefeld (later the Kleefeld E.M.C.). A very important part of her life was the sewing circle until she moved to Steinbach eight years ago. Also very important to her was the women's Bible study. The women continued to come from Kleefeld these last eight years. That was definitely a highlight for her. Margaret was a prayer warrior; regularly praying for her family, nieces and nephews and the missionaries. She had a strong faith in the Lord.
Margaret passed away June 29, 2004. The funeral services were held Saturday, July 3, 2004 at 2 p.m. at the Kleefeld EMC Church with interment at the church cemetery. Viewing was held at Loewen Funeral Chapel on Friday, July 2, 2004 at 7:00 p.m.

PETER T. WIEBE
Peter T. Wiebe was born to Jacob and Helena Wiebe of Grunthal on April 26, 1909.
He is survived by four sisters Ann Wiebe, Jessie Green, Agnes Wiebe and Susan (Peter) Dueck and one brother Henry (Nettie) and many nieces and nephews. Peter was predeceased by three brothers Jake, Julius and Neil and four sisters Helen Schellenberg, Mary Friesen, Elizabeth Hiebert and Katherine Friesen.
Peter enjoyed the outdoors and spent many years working in the parks and recreation centres in the city of Winnipeg. His love for the outdoors was evident by the many rides and walks he took with family and friends.
Peter also enjoyed traveling and seeing new places. After he retired he did a lot of traveling with both his brother Julius and his brother Jake.
On July 5, 2004 after a very short illness Peter went to be with his Lord and Saviour. He will be missed by his brother and sisters, many nieces and nephews as well as his friends and family.
The funeral service will be held at Birchwood Funeral Chapel on Thursday, July 8, 2004 at 2 p.m. Interment at Sommerfeld Mennonite Church Cemetery, New Bothwell, MB.
We would like to thank the staff at the Menno Home for making Peter feel at home. Also thanks to the Bethesda Staff for their care during his short time there.

JOHN D. SUDERMAN
It is with great sadness we announce the passing of our father, John D. Suderman of Penticton, B.C., formerly of Steinbach and Niverville.
He is survived by his wife Herta of six years; his three sons: John and Ann and grandsons Bob and Val; Jason of Steinbach; Richard and sons Michael and Serena, Steven, Christopher and Darlene of Gladstone, and their mother Agatha Suderman of Portage; Jerry and Kathy and grandchildren Joseph and Katrina of Armstrong, B.C.; two daughters, Rosemary Vogt of Winnipeg and children Lisa, Derek and Charity, Jared and their father Larry Vogt of Steinbach; Sharynn and Vern Friesen and granddaughters Chelsea and Kylie of Steinbach; also two great-granddaughters.
He was predeceased by one son Mark Clifford in 1966 and one great-granddaughter Samantha in 1998.
After farming in the Niverville area for many years, Dad retired to Steinbach. He spent 17 winters at Christian Retreat in Bradenton, Florida, where he grew steadily in his faith and love for the Lord. For the past 13 years, Dad made his home in the Okanagan where he enjoyed the mild winters and especially the fresh fruit. Dad was eagerly looking forward to picking the fresh cherry crop, so he could bring cherries back home for us to enjoy. Instead, Dad passed away June 22 after a battle with bone cancer. He is greatly missed and was much loved by all of us.
Services were held June 25, with burial at Hillside Cemetery, Penticton, B.C.
There will be a memorial service held July 19, 7:30 p.m. at Southland Community Church in Steinbach.
TINA SCHELLENBERG
Tina Schellenberg of Grunthal, Man., passed away peacefully at 2:45 p.m., Tuesday, June 29, 2004, at the Menno Home in Grunthal, at the age of 86 years. She was born Oct. 12, 1917 at New Bothwell, Man., then resided in Steinbach, Winnipeg, and again Steinbach, spending her last years in Grunthal.
She leaves to mourn, her daughter Norma (Orvan); two sons, Peter (Pamela) and Gordon [Tex] (Sally); one stepdaughter, Barbara (Jeff); and two stepsons, John (Helen) and Bob (Linda); also numerous grandchildren and great-grandchildren.
Mom is survived by two sisters, Helen of Abbotsford, B.C., Evelyn of Niverville, Man.; and two brothers, Pete of Kelowna, B.C. and Al of Campbell River, B.C.
Mom was predeceased by her first husband Ben Hamm, and two sons, Gerry and John Westly; her second husband Bill Schellenberg; and one stepdaughter, Ruth.
She was a good mom, great cook, and a real inspiration to her many grandchildren, children and great-grandchildren. She will be greatly missed by her families.
The family wishes to extend their thanks to all the staff at Menno Home for their kindness and good care they gave Mom. Also many thanks to Pastor Abe Funk, with whom she had many good discussions about her Lord and Savior Jesus Christ.
Funeral service was held at Loewen Funeral Chapel at 10 a.m., Saturday, July 3, with Pastor Abe Funk officiating. Interment followed at the Memorial Cemetery in Steinbach.

EVELYN (CORNELSEN) FRIESEN
1930 – 2004
Peacefully, July 29, 2004, Evelyn Friesen of Rosenort, Man., at the Morris General Hospital, went to be with her Lord and Saviour at the age of 74.
Evelyn was predeceased by her husband Pete in 2002. Evelyn will be greatly missed by her children, Harold (Sandra), Gary (Darlene), Ray (Rebecca), all of Calgary, Alta., and Eleanor (Ken Thomas) of Winkler, Man. She is loved and respected by her grandchildren, Steven (Rachel), Alicia (Haney), Crystal, Jeremiah (Michelle), Jordan, Desirae, Katelynn, Gregory, Melissa, and her great-grandchildren, Raya, Paris, Rylan, and Abigail.
She will also be remembered by her brothers, Ed (Kathy), Art (Rose), Jake (Joyce); sisters, Nettie, and Ann (John Reimer); her Friesen brothers and sisters and their spouses, and numerous Friesen and Cornelsen nieces and nephews.
Evelyn will be remembered for her friendly and prayerful attitude. Being a loving mother to her children and a loving aunt to her nieces and nephews were gifts that we are thankful for.
We are thankful to the nursing staff at the Morris Hospital for their kind and loving care of our mother.
Our special thanks to Evelyn’s wonderful neighbors from her apartment complex, and her sister and sisters-in-law who looked in on her and brought her food and fellowship during the lonely times after Pete was gone.
Thank you to Evelyn’s many friends who came to visit her. Your faithfulness blessed her as well as us.
The funeral service was held Sunday, Aug. 1, 2004 at the Rosenort Fellowship Chapel. Interment followed at the Rosenort Cemetery.

LEWIS ROY FROESE
May 28, 1936 to July 28, 2004
Lewis Froese will always be remembered for his generosity, warmth and kindness, and will be sadly missed by all his family and close friends.
He is survived by his loving mother, Mary Froese of Steinbach, Man.; and siblings, Jean (John) Barkman, Dennis (Ruth), Robert (Kathryn), Melvin (Beverley), Norma (Peter) Wiebe, Ronald (Lucille), Larry (Phyllis), Franklin, Gerald (Ida), Brent (Karen), Dale (Sharon); long-time friends, Clarence and Grace Kliewer of Long Beach, California; and numerous nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by his father, Frank P. Froese; and niece Charmagne Barkman.
Lewis was born and raised in Steinbach, where he worked for Loewen Body Shop and received an award for his excellent service. Lewis moved to Long Beach, CA in 1965 to reside in a warmer climate. He passed away peacefully in his sleep.

JACOB S. GINTER
It is with great sadness we announce the sudden passing of our husband, father, grandfather, great-grandfather, brother and friend, Jacob S. Ginter of Steinbach, Man., at the age of 85 years, Friday, July 30, 2004.
Jacob was born July 10, 1919 at home in Rosengard, Man., the eldest child in a family of 12. At the age of 20 he was baptized in the Chortitzer Church in Randolph, Man.
In 1941, at the age of 22, Grandpa went to Clear Lake, Man. to work in a logging camp. After eight months he came back home to help out his Mom and Dad and work on the neighboring farms.
June 20, 1942 he married my Grandma, Maria Friesen, who was widowed with three children, Mary, Anne and Pete. Jacob and Maria had two daughters, Agatha and Tina. Tina was born in November 1951 and died several hours after birth. Grandpa felt her loss with deep sorrow.
Grandpa will always be remembered for his love of visiting, horses, old machines, and working in the bush. I remember how much Grandpa enjoyed getting out the threshing machine and making hay the old fashioned way, horses pulling the wagon and “Faspa” after. Grandpa was very happy to help out my Mom and came over at the drop of a hat to fix anything or give us a ride to town. Anything that broke down, Grandpa would call my Dad. He was never too busy to stop his work when someone would come to the house; he’d get a glass of water or cold coffee and do some “shpetzeiring.”
July 23, 1990, his wife Maria passed away and Grandpa was very lost and lonely. Three years later the sparkle came back in his eyes when he met Mrs. Anna Siemens. Grandpa and Grandma Ann were married Aug. 21, 1993.
Grandpa would still work in the bush, cutting wood, until last year. His health wasn’t very good, but he always told me, “Once I get back in the bush and cut wood, I’ll feel much better.”
Grandpa will be deeply missed by his wife Anna and her children and grandchildren, daughter Agatha, son-in-law Abe Fehr, their children and grandchildren.
He was predeceased by his wife Maria, infant daughter Tina, great-grandson Mason, one sister Katrina, and three brothers, Diedrich, Peter and John.
The funeral service was held Wednesday, Aug. 4, 2004 at the Chortitzer Mennonite Church, Steinbach, Man. Interment at Rosengard Cemetery.

CHARLES DUBOIS
Charles Dubois was born June 12, 1912 at Wampum, Man., and passed away Aug. 11, 2004 at Ste Anne Hospital after a battle with cancer.
He was predeceased by his sisters: Mary, Agnes, Cordilia and Dorothy; brothers: Frank, Delphis, Fred, and Chalmer.
He leaves behind his caring cousin Irene Dumont, and many nieces and nephews, cousins and friends.
Charlie loved to ski, hunt, play cards and he always took great pride in having the nicest garden with many flowers. He was a great violin and accordion player. He worked in the bush for many years. Charlie also took care of the local parks in the area, and was the only barber around. People would come from as far as Piney for a haircut.
Charlie will always be remembered as a very personal, honest man.
Pallbearers were: Dawson Blacquiere, Roger Chenier, George Garrand, Jim Patterson, Raymond Prevost, and Jerry Semko.
Funeral services were held Saturday, Aug. 14, 2004, with viewing at 10 a.m., followed by Mass at 10:30 a.m., at Notre Dame de l'Assomption Roman Catholic Church, South Junction, Man. Interment was held in the Parish Cemetery.
