Bourque, Tommy
2015-01-28

Thomas William “Tommy” Bourque, 64, of MacKay Street, Westville passed away on Wednesday, January 28, 2015 in the Aberdeen Hospital, New Glasgow, with his family by his side.

Born in New Glasgow, he was a son of the late Fred and Emma (Vigneault) Bourque.

Tom was a proud crane operator at Nova Forge in Trenton where he worked for 20 years. His passion was carpentry, having built several houses, including his own homes and had worked for various contractors. Tom operated a Christmas tree farm for many years and was very proud of every tree he grew. He was an avid hunter and sport fisherman, but most of all loved his family and spending time with his friends.

Tom will be sadly missed by his wife of 42 years Donna (Fraser); daughter, Mary (Joey Gerrior); grandchildren, Kiara and Annais; brothers and sisters, Jimmy (Belle), Junie, Johnny (Marie), all of Westville; Theresa Darroch (Kevin), Hopewell; Jeanie Stewart (Edison), Westville; sisters and brothers in law, Elva Lauchlan, Westville; Earlene and Charlie Kehoe, Westville; aunt Rosie Chennell, Westville; and many nieces and nephews.

Besides his parents, Tom was predeceased by sister Patsy Evans; brothers, Joe, Fred, Bernie and infant brother Michael; father-in-law Donald Fraser and mother-in-law Helen (Skidmore) Doyle.

Tom is resting at Eagles Funeral Home, Westville with visiting on Friday from 2-4 and 7-9 p.m. His funeral service will be held 1 o’clock Saturday from the Church of the Holy Name, Westville with Father Donald Boudreau officiating . Spring interment will be in the Holy Name Cemetery. Donations in Tom’s memory may be made to the Aberdeen Palliative Care Society, or the Oncology Dept. of the Aberdeen Hospital. A special thanks to Dr. Jota, Dr. Farrell, Dr. MacFarlane and the nurses of the Palliative Care Unit of the Aberdeen Hospital for the extraordinary care he received during his illness.

Campbell, Debbie

Deborah Ann “Debbie Campbell, age 52, of Westville, passed away on Thursday evening, January 29, 2015 in the Aberdeen Hospital, New Glasgow, surrounded by her loving family.

Debbie was born in Halifax on January 28, 1963. She is a daughter of Allister “Al” Silver, Mt. Thom and the late Ruth (Cameron) Silver.

Debbie moved to Mt. Thom as a teenager and after meeting her husband John, they eventually moved to Westville. After raising her children, she returned to complete her education graduating with honours as an Educational Assistant from N.S.C.C. Her greatest passion was being inside the classroom helping various children. She loved going to school every day to help make a difference in their lives. She worked at various schools and was currently at Trenton Elementary School. She had a love for baking, which she always gave away to others and enjoyed making family dinners. She enjoyed Sunday drives and one of Debbie’s greatest pleasures was spending time with her family at her cottage in Cape Breton. Debbie was a loving wife, mother, and a proud grandmother.

She will be dearly missed by her father Al; her husband of 33 years, John; daughters, Sabrina MacQuarrie (Jason), Westville; and Karen, Dartmouth; grandchildren, Bryden, Kelsey, and Dylan; sister Carol Silver (Lennie Cyr), Westville; brother Blair Silver, Mt. Thom; grandmother, Jeannette “Nettie” Cameron, Glen Haven Manor; brothers-in-law and sisters in law, Dennis Campbell (Donna); Mary Campbell, Karleen Clark (Juanita), Joanna Clark (Tim); god children, Sophie, Dinah, Rebecca, and Ada; many nieces, nephews, aunts, uncles and cousins.

She was predeceased by her mother Ruth and father-in-law and mother-in-law Anthony and Beverly Campbell.

Cremation has taken place. Her family will receive visitors on Sunday from 2-4 and 7-9 p.m. at Eagles Funeral Home, Westville. Her memorial service will be held Wednesday at 11 a.m. from the Church of the Holy Name, Westville with Father Tom MacNeil officiating. Donations in her memory may be made to the Canadian Cancer Society or the Aberdeen Palliative Care Society. A special thanks to Dr. J.G. Forbes, Dr. D. Rayson, Dr. G. Farrell and the Palliative Care Nurses.

MacKenzie, Jean
2015-07-13

Jean Munro MacKenzie, 96 formerly of Westville and Mt. William, passed away on Monday July 13, 2015 in Valley View Villa, Riverton with her family by her side.

Born in Amherst, she was a daughter of the late Burt and Nettie MacKenzie of Hopewell.

She was a member of the Royal Canadian Legion Br, 35 Westville and a Past President of the Ladies Auxiliary where she greatly enjoyed playing darts and crib. Jean was a seamstress and while living in Mt. William was the “neighbourhood barber”. She loved being with her grand children and giving them special driving lessons. Her motto in life was “don’t worry”

Jean will be dearly missed by daughters, Phyllis Zero (Jack), Mass.; Winnie Gratto (Brent), Mark Rd.; Jan Chabassol (Francis), Westville; sons, Hugh (Stella), Westville; Lloyd (Zura), Maitland; Bill (Lynn), White Hill; daughter-in law Debbie, Toronto; 26 grand children and 37 great grand children.

She was predeceased by her husband, Fred, sons David and Harold; daughter-in law Georgina; sisters Mildred MacKenzie and Maybelle Thibault and brothers Donald and Hugh MacKenzie.

A special thanks to the Staff of Valley View Villa for her wonderful care.

Mrs. MacKenzie rested at Eagles Funeral Home, Westville with visiting on Wednesdajuly 15. The Royal Canadian Legion will conducted a service 6:30 Wednesday at the Funeral Home. Her funeral servicewas held 2 o’clock Thursday July 16 from St. Andrews Presbyterian Church, Westville with the Rev. Bonnie Wynn officiating. Cremation will follow Burial was in Mt William Cemetery. Family flowers only. Donations in her memory may be made to Valley View Villa

Boehk, Ron
2015-07-13

It is with great sadness the family announces the passing of Ronald Godfrey “Ron” Boehk of Westville on July 13, 2015, after a long and courageous battle with cancer. Ron passed surrounded by his family in the Palliative Care Unit at the Aberdeen Hospital, New Glasgow. Ron is now at peace to suffer no more.

Born in Westville January 13, 1935, he was the son of the late Georgina Irene (Lockhart) and Neil Johnson Boehk. Ron will be sadly missed by his wife, Mildred C (Sutherland); daughter, Karen and husband Earle Carson, Westville; granddaughter, Karlee and grandson, Matthew; sister, Charlotte Morash; sisters-in-law, Dorothy Boehk-Clark, Caroline (Carl) Ross; Muriel Sutherland , brother-in-law, Pete Sutherland (Bessie), nieces, Pamela (Jack) Canning, Nancy Morash, Gloria (Gordon) Reid; nephews, Blaine (Mandy) Sutherland, Blair (Leah) Sutherland, David Sutherland and Kenny (Jocelyn) Sutherland.

Ron was predeceased by his brother, Theodore (Ted); his sister, Vera; his brothers-in-law, Garfield Morash and Hugh Sutherland

Ron worked at William C. Hicks, Scotia bank, Canadian National Railway and he retired in 1992 from Maritime Tel & Tel. where he worked for over thirty years.

Through the years, Ron was involved in numerous volunteer organizations, including the Scotia Lodge No. 11, St. Paul United Church Board of Stewards, Telephone Pioneers, and was very active with the Pictou County Prostrate Group.

Ron was initiated as an Odd Fellow in Scotia Lodge No. 11, Independent Order of Odd Fellows of the Grand Jurisdiction of the Atlantic Province on the 25th of April 1957. Brother Boehk was a Past Grand of Scotia Lodge No. 11 and took an active part in all Lodge work and events and he was a loyal and Faithful lodge attendee. He was past Chief Patriarch of Cushing Encampment No. 10. Brother Boehk will be sorely missed by all Odd Fellows, especially his Brothers of Scotia Lodge No 11. He served on the Board at the Maritime Odd Fellows Home in Pictou for several years and was Treasurer for the Independent Order of Odd Fellow World Eye Bank and Visual Research Foundation.

Ron’s grandchildren were his pride and joy, he loved watching his grandchildren as they grew. Watching and hearing about their activities and sports brought joy into his life. He enjoyed his garden and feeding the birds. Ron was special to many people especially his nieces and nephews and grand nieces and grand nephews, he always took time to listen and share his love of life.

A special thanks to Dr. Farrell, Rhonda Langille and the exceptional team of nurses who provided Ron the highest level of compassion and care during his final days.

The family will be receiving visitors on Friday, July 17th at Eagles Funeral Home in Westville, from 2 – 4 pm and 7 – 9 pm. The Independent Order of Odd Fellows will be holding their service at 6:30 pm Friday prior to evening visitation. The funeral service is Saturday, July 18th at 2:00 pm at Eagles Funeral Home.

In lieu of flowers the family would appreciate donations made to the Palliative Care Unit of the Aberdeen Hospital; St. Paul United Church, Westville; or Pictou County Prostrate Support Group.

Sutherland, Margory
2015-07-14

It is with deep sorrow, we announce the sudden passing of Marjory Elizabeth Sutherland, 47, Alma formerly of Pictou Landing on Monday, July 13 at her home.

Born in New Glasgow on April 27, 1968, she is a daughter of Graham and Anna (MacLean) Fraser, New Glasgow and Darrell Westerman, Shortts Lake.

Marjory worked for Bell Aliant in a number of roles over the past 24 years and was recently working in Antigonish, in a job she cherished. She met many friends while working at Bell Aliant and that is where she met her husband Steve. Marjory’s main passion was family. She loved travelling with weekend getaways with Steve and the children and enjoyed spending weekends in the summer hanging around the pool with her family and all their friends, the more the merrier. She loved animals and always had a house full of pets. She had a special relationship with her grandmother Marjorie (Little Nan) who was like a 2nd mother to her.

She will be dearly missed by her parents, her husband Steven; daughter Shyla MacPhee (P.J. Lawrence), Lawrencetown; son, Devon MacPhee, Alma; step children, Evan Sutherland (Melissa), Pemberton, B.C.; Josh Sutherland (Robyn), Pemberton, B.C.; and Casi Sutherland, at home. She is also survived by sister, Shannon Smith (Al), New Glasgow; brothers, Allan Fraser (Dana), Pictou Landing; and Brad Westerman (Inger), Gangelt, Germany.

Marjorie was predeceased by her grandparents, Marjorie Westerman and Jean MacLean.

The will be no visitations or funeral service. A private family graveside service was held at Abercrombie Cemetery.

Kellock, Eric
2015-07-18

Eric F. Kellock, 61, South Main Street, Westville passed away on Saturday, July 18, 2015 at his home after a brief but courageous battle with cancer.

Born in new Glasgow, Eric was a son of Ross Kellock, Stellarton and the late Angelita (Pettipas) Kellock.

Eric was a friend to all with a quick wit and a great sense of humour.

He will be dearly missed by his wife, Mary (McAloney); son Scott; daughter Nancy (Spyros Pyrovolos); special daughter-in-law Angela McMullen and grand children, Kelzie, Kristin, Jonathan, Rory, Rian and Emily. He is also survived by his sisters, Kathy Brooks (Bob); Marilyn Smith (Lou); Jane MacKay (Rob); Alice English (Kevin) and brothers, Brian (Nicole); Tom (Cheryl); Terry (Bernadette); Larry (Jayne) and Mark (Nancy); special God daughters, Amanda Brooks and Terri-Lynn Lannon; many nieces, nephews and close friends.

Eric was predeceased by infant brothers, Peter and Paul.

Cremations has taken place under the direction of Eagles Funeral Home, Westville. There will be no visitations or services by Eric’s request.
