DeMERCHANT, Richard Allan (Dick) -
At his home on Thursday, May 3, 2001. Dick DeMerchant, beloved husband of Fern McCoy and dear father of Ryan. Dear son of the late William and the late Elizabeth DeMerchant. Dear brother of Donald and his wife Liz, Warren and his wife Frances, Anne and her husband Steve Thompson, Blair, and predeceased by his sister Florence Yunker. Brother-in-law of Bob Yunker, Reginald McCoy and his wife Leo, Heather Jones and her husband Lee. Son-in-law of Blanche and Robert McCoy. Lovingly remembered by his nieces and nephews and great-nieces and great-nephews. Resting at the Taylor Funeral Home, 20846 Dalton Rd., Sutton, 2-4 p.m. and 7-9 p.m. Friday. Funeral service in Egypt Church of the Nazarene, Park Rd. and Smith Blvd., Georgina on Saturday at 2 p.m., followed by cremation. In lieu of flowers, donations to the Canadian Cancer Society would be appreciated.

Retired Member of the Oshawa Fire Department, Member Royal Canadian Legion Branch 43, Veteran of WW11- At Lakeridge Health Oshawa on Thursday May 3, 2001. Phil Elmhurst in his 83rd year. Loving husband of Annie. Dear father of John (Kathy), Donna (Danny), and Brent. Loving grandfather of Christopher (Erin), and Patrick. Predeceased by one sister. At Phil's request, cremation has already taken place. Memorial donations to the Muscular Dystrophy Association would be appreciated. Arrangements entrusted to the Armstrong Funeral Home, 124 King Street East, Oshawa.

HANSEN, William Christian (Bill) -
(Retired teacher at The Pines Senior Public School, Newcastle, and part of the original teaching and coaching staff; former Manager and Elder at St. Andrew's Presbyterian Church in Pickering; former volunteer firefighter for Pickering Village). Peacefully at his home in Newtonville, surrounded by his family, on Thursday, May 3, 2001, in his 63rd year. Bill, loving husband and "chum" of Linda (nee Bell). Dear father of Tammy and her husband Rick Watson of Kitchener, Jay, and Drew, both of Newtonville. Loving Papa of A.J. and Talia. Bill will be sadly missed by Kathy Meredith, David and Sharon Staples, Leigh and Sylvia Parker, and his many other friends and colleagues. Friends may call at Orono United Church after 12 noon on Tuesday, May 8, followed by a Memorial Celebration of his life at 2:00 p.m. Donations to Orono United Church or the Canadian Cancer Society in Bill's memory would be appreciated by his family. MAY, Charles -
passed away on May 3, 2001 at Port Perry Hospital, in his 80th year. Beloved husband to Marion, and father of Sherry, and Stephen and his wife Joanne. Brother to Margaret Berry, Patsy Rennie and Andy May, and brother in-law William Bowles. Will be greatly missed by his grandchildren Derek and Michael. Charles will be remembered as a man who always overcame adversities with a smile. Family will be receiving friends at Accettone Funeral Home, 384 Finley Avenue, Ajax, telephone. Viewing will be held on Saturday, May 5, 2001 between 2-4 p.m. and 7-9 p.m. Funeral in the funeral home Chapel at 11:30 a.m. Sunday May 6, 2001. In memory of Charles, as an expression of sympathy, donations can be made to the Lung Association or the Heart and Stroke Foundation. Charles was loved and cherished by all.

MILLER, Mary -
At the Altamont Nursing Home on Thursday, May 3, 2001, in her 83rd year. Mary Miller, beloved wife of the late Eddie. Loving aunt of Elaine and her husband Larry Kennedy, Shirley and her husband Alex Barbier, David, Billy, and Carol Ann. Dear sister of Hillary, Cecil, Bertha, Matt, Genevieve and Aloysius. The family will receive friends at the McEachnie Funeral Home, 28 Old Kingston Road, Ajax from 1-2 p.m. Sunday, May 6, 2001. Memorial Service in the Chapel to follow at 2:00 p.m. Should family and friends so desire, donations to the Heart and Stroke Foundation or the Canadian Cancer Society would be greatly appreciated.

NASH, Norman Robert -
After a lengthy illness, Norm passed away at his home at Buckingham Manor on Thursday, May 3, 2001 at the age of 86. Norm, beloved husband of Elma Nash, the late Marjorie Nash, and the late Wilma (Billie) Nash. Survived by son Charles and his wife Judy, daughter Pat Davies, grandchildren Kevin and his wife Andrea, Kelly and her husband Scott McManingwell, Evan Davies and Elizabeth Davies. "Bammer" is lovingly remembered by 4 great-grandchildren. Norm thoroughly enjoyed his career in the printing industry, living at Wagner Lake and his many years volunteering at Uxbridge Cottage Hospital. Norm will be missed by the many people whose lives he touched. Resting at the Funeral Home of Low & Low, Uxbridge for service in the Chapel on Wednesday, May 10th at 2 p.m. Visiting Tuesday 2-4 p.m. and 7-9 p.m. In lieu of flowers, we know Norm would appreciate your donations to Uxbridge Hospital (now known as Lakeridge Health Centre).

NYSTROM, Eileen Gladys Patricia (Van Nest) -
Age 85 yrs. Peacefully at Lakeridge Health Port Perry on Thursday May 3rd, 2001. Beloved wife of the late Jesse O. Van Nest & the late Harry C. Nystrom of Springfield Mass. Dear mother of W. Brian Van Nest & his wife Patricia, J. Kingsley Van Nest & his wife Judith, David G. Van Nest, & the late Lionel M. Van Nest. Survived by Lois Watson. She will be sadly missed by her grandchildren, great-grandchildren & her sister Lorraine Snyder. Visitation will be held at The Northcutt Elliott Funeral Home, 53 Division St. N., Bowmanville 2-4 & 7-9 pm Sunday. Funeral Service will take place in our Chapel 11 am Monday. Interment Bowmanville cemetery. Donations to the Durham Regional Cancer Care Centre would be appreciated by the family.

WISEMAN, Lewis George -
At Chilliwack, May 3, 2001 in his 81st year. Formerly of Bowmanville, Ontario. He was a veteran of W.W. II, serving with the 1st Canadian Army Airborn. He later served with Queen’s Own Rifles after re-enlisting and served in Germany and Korea. He is survived by his wife, Marian (Toots), son Kenneth (Ellen), predeceased by his daughter Billi Ballantine. He also leaves grandchildren Kevin and Sara Ballantine, and brother Douglas (Audrey), predeceased by his brother Mel and Bert and sisters Jean Edwards and Madge Good. Cremation at Valley Crematorium has taken place. A memorial service will be held at Agasszi Legion on June 2, 2001 at 1 p.m.

BEATH, Muriel Jean -
(Member of Columbus Community United Church - Choir and U.C.W.; Rebekah Beethoven Lodge No. 165 Brooklin; Oshawa Hospital Auxiliary). Peacefully, after a lengthy battle with heart disease, on Wednesday, May 2, 2001, at Lakeridge Health Corp. Port Perry, in her 81st year. Beloved wife of David for 61 years. Loving and devoted motherof Joan and her husband Don Danyluk of Vancouver and Kathleen and her husband Roy Domingos of Omemee. Lovingly remembered by her grandchildren, Ryan, Teri, Wendy, Lisa, Tracy, Corrine, John and great- grandchildren, Matthew, Joseph, Haley, Brian, Dustin, Shayla, Faith and Megan. Cherished sister of Ferne Olsen and her husband Alf of Flesherton, George Gilroy and his wife Helen and the late Fay Vice and Bill Gilroy. Sister-in-law of Murray Vice of Blackstock, Walter Beath and his wife Earline of Oshawa, and Lance Beath and his wife Marg of Brooklin. Muriel will be sadly missed by her many nieces and nephews and their families. Relatives and friends may pay theirrespects at McINTOSH-ANDERSON FUNERAL HOME Ltd., 152 King St. E., Oshawa (905-433 5558) on Sunday from 1-3 pm and 7-9 pm. Rebekah Lodge Service at 9pm Sunday. A service will be held in the chapel on Monday, May 7, 2001 at 1:00 pm. Interment GROVESIDE cemetery , Brooklin. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in memory of Muriel to the Columbus Community United Church, Heart and Stroke Foundation or a charity of your choice.

Sister of Margaret Rorabeck, Doris Vann, Sid Sheridan, and the late Bill Sheridan. A funeral service will be held at Thornton cemetery Chapel, 1200 Thornton Rd., Oshawa, on Saturday, May 5, at 12 noon, with visiting for an hour prior to the service. Dearly respected & loved father of Thomas (Susan), William (Dawn), Kenneth (Shelly) & Paul (Bonita). Cherished & very "Special Grandpa" to Cassandra, Elizabeth, Geoffrey, Heather, Stephen, Douglas, Gregory, Courtney, Patricia & Sarah. Son of the late Ann Rivers & survived by brother Greg of Lindsay. Suddenly at Lakeridge Health Corp.-Oshawa on Tuesday May 1st 2001. Lily in her 92nd year. Beloved wife of the late Gerald. Loving mother of Tom Bull and his wife Barbara, Beverly Helmer and her husband David, Janet Chaisson and her husband Alde, Margaret Melch and her husband Boris, Murray Bull and his wife Darlene. Predeceased by her brothers and sisters. Lily will be sadly missed by her nieces and nephews. Lovingly remembered by her grandchildren Brenda, Shelley, Thomas, Darren, Derek, Peter, Michelle, Bradley, Brent, Trevor, Stephen, Brian, Derek, Jeffrey, and by her 18 great grandchildren.
