He will be sadly missed by his wife Joan; his daughter JoAnne (John) Talerico; his son David (Sherri) Knudson; and grandchildren, Laura and Matthew Talerico. He is also survived by two sisters, Maxine Lazzarotto (Len), and Jeannette (Ed) Dodd. He was predeceased by his parents, Arthur and Ruth, and sisters, Elsie and Doreen. Art was born February 25, 1932 in Canmore, AB. He left Canmore after high school to pursue an interest in surveying. Art worked forty-seven years in the surveying field, beginning his career with Wolley-Dod and MacCrimmon Surveys and was well-known for his dedication and work ethic which was exemplified in his daily work. He gained his Alberta Land Surveyor certification in May of 1977 and was currently employed with Northcan Surveys Ltd. During his career he worked on numerous TransAlta projects throughout Alberta and BC. Highlights were his involvement in the TransAlta 500 line that ran from Crowsnest Pass to Janet, AB. Other projects took him from Northern Alberta to the Queen Charlotte Islands. He was known and loved for his fun-loving spirit, enjoyment of the outdoors and his selfless giving to his family, neighbours and friends. A special thank you to the staff at Northcan Surveys and Calgary EMS for all their efforts in Art's final hours. NESBITT -- Daniel James of Balzac passed away suddenly at his residence on Tuesday, December 16, 1997 at the age of 51 years. Daniel lived in Balzac since 1976 and was a longtime employee of Trimac. He will be lovingly remembered by his two sons, James and Robert Nesbitt of Calgary; his mother Olive Nesbitt of Fort Macleod; former wife Carole, and sisters, Brenda and Donna of Lethbridge, Koreen of Cardston; brother-in-law Gordon Ashton of Fort Macleod. Daniel will also be remembered by his many relatives and friends. He was predeceased by his father LeRoy and his sister Kathy. NUFER -- Walter Nufer of Black Diamond, passed away on December 18, 1997 at the Rockyview Hospital at the age of 73 years with his family at his side. Walter is survived by his loving family, daughters, Judy (J.C.) Ohlson of Turner Valley, Beverly (Don) McHugh of Radium, BC; sons, Gerry of Calgary, Reg (Terri) of Calgary, Greg (Sally) of Louisiana, USA; and ten grandchildren, Darryl, Darcy, Dale, Sheila (Bill), Monica (Ron), Brian, Michelle, Charity, Miaka and Cameron; and four precious great-grandchildren. He is also survived by his sister Frieda Woelher of Salmon Arm, BC, and his wife Millie Nufer of Black Diamond. He was predeceased by his sister Olinda Betts in 1976, and his son Barney in 1986. Walter was born and raised in the Rimbey district and moved to Black Diamond in 1948. He worked for the Forestry Service and in the trucking industry. PARTON -- Mrs. Nelly Parton (nee Venables), passed away at the Chinook Nursing Home on December 19, 1997 at the age of 92 years. Born February 26, 1905 in Lichfield, England, Nelly came to Canada in 1927. After the death of her husband Henry in 1954, she worked for the C.O. of Canadian Armed Forces Base and Texaco Canada for six years. She is the loving mother of five sons and daughters-in-law, Ken of Calgary, Ray and Glenda of Kelowna, Brian and Barbara of Calgary, Barry and Marguerite of Kelowna, Earl and Kathleen of Vancouver, and Fran of Calgary; as well as seventeen grandchildren and fifteen great-grandchildren. Nelly was predeceased by her husband Henry in 1954, and sons, Ronald in 1944 and Dennis in 1989. QUANTZ -- Mr. William Edwin Quantz passed away peacefully on December 18, 1997. William was born in Daysland, Alberta on July 29, 1906. He grew up in various places in Alberta, B.C. and Ontario, finally settling in Innisfail, where he married Florence Green in 1938. William and Florence moved to Calgary in 1943 where he worked as an auto mechanic at various places, finally at Calgary Motor Products where he worked for twenty-two years. William was very active in the Nazarene Church since he was married. Upon moving to Calgary, he faithfully served First Church of the Nazarene as custodian and usher, and was always on call to fix anything that needed repairing. William leaves his wife of fifty-nine and a half years, Florence; sons, Gordon and Dale Quantz, both of Calgary; daughter and son-in-law, Lora Lee and Kevin Black of Mississauga, Ontario; daughter-in-law Elsie Quantz of Lethbridge; son-in-law Alfons Sage of Calgary; as well as nine grandchildren, six great-grandchildren and two nieces. William was predeceased by a daughter Althea Sage, son Glen Quantz, daughter-in-law Melina Quantz, grandson John Quantz, sister Minnie Paxton and brother Albert Quantz. ROGERS -- John (Jack) Alexander, beloved husband of Phyllis for forty-six years, and much loved Dad of Amber (Ken) Lupul, and loved Pa of Kirby and Keegan, passed away at the Forest Grove Care Centre on Tuesday, December 16, 1997 at the age of 74. Also survived by brothers, Bob (Irene), Gerry (Del); and sisters, Margaret, Jeannie, Marie; and brother-in-law Joe Seaman; numerous nieces and nephews. Predeceased by his mother Jeannie and father William, his brother Willie and sisters, Louie, Lizzie, Mary and Marty. Jack was born March 5, 1923 in Calgary and served in the Royal Canadian Navy and was a lifetime member of the Royal Canadian Legion Branch 154. SPROULE -- Audrey Victoria passed away peacefully on Thursday, December 18, 1997. She will be dearly missed by her niece Yvonne Ellis, her great-niece Patricia Creely and great-nephew Donald Ellis, all of Florida, USA. STEWART -- Blanche Stewart, beloved wife of Mr. Clifton Stewart of Calgary, passed away after a lengthy and courageous battle with cancer at the Rockyview Hospital, on December 15, 1997 at the age of 75 years. Blanche loved to travel to see friends and relatives across Canada and the U.S.A. Her great love was to drive out into the back country on a Sunday afternoon. She will be remembered affectionately by all she touched. She will also be remembered for her courage and strength, her sense of humour and spirit during her life and illness. She will be greatly missed by her husband Clifton and the families, relatives and friends, spread across Western Canada. WHITEFORD -- Mr. James (Jim) G. Whiteford, CD., beloved husband of Mrs. Phyllis Whiteford of Calgary, passed away after a brief illness at the Foothills Hospital on December 16, 1997 at the age of 78. Jim was born in Dykehead, Lanarkshire, Scotland and immigrated with his parents to Canada in 1928. They settled in Olds, Alberta. Jim returned to Britain in 1939 with the Royal Canadian Engineers where he met his wife Phyllis. They were married in Braintree, Essex, on June 20, 1942. After the war they settled in Calgary and had a daughter Gail. Jim joined the Calgary Police Force where he attained the rank of inspector and retired in 1977. Jim was a founding member of the Royal Canadian Legion Branch No. 264 as well as founding member and second president of the Calgary Winter Club. He was also a president of the International Police Association, Canadian Representative. Jim was instrumental in the formation of the Provost Corps of the Canadian Service Btn. Since his retirement Jim had been active with the Confederation Park Seniors Centre where he was past president of the Centre, and of the Travel Club, as well as a fifty year member of the Masonic Lodge. Since Jim's retirement, he and Phyllis traveled extensively. In the past few years one of his greatest joys was his granddaughter Allison. Jim is survived by a daughter Gail Whiteford, a granddaughter Allison Blake and her father Jim Blake, all of Calgary. He is also survived by two sisters, Jenny and Mary; a brother David; niece Frances; nephews, Kevin and Bryon; and very special friend of the family, Shirley Elder. He was predeceased by his parents, Robert and Janet, and his brother Robert.
