- Shop now for incredible insights into your wellbeing -SCHROTH -- Mrs. Antonia Schroth (nee Puhlmann), beloved wife of George Schroth, passed on to a life with our Lord on December 1, 1997, at the Extendicare Hillcrest Nursing Home at the age of 80 years. Besides her husband George of Calgary, Antonia is survived by her three children, Reinhold (Shirley) Puhlmann of Calgary, David (Leigh) Schroth of Calgary, and Karen (Doyle) Mullaney of Black Diamond; as well as six grandchildren and two great-grandchildren. Mrs. Schroth was born in Michaelsfeld, Caucasus, Russia on August 29, 1917. After a long journey fleeing tyranny and oppression, she came to Canada in 1951 and married George in Trochu, Alberta. The family would like to thank the staff at the Extendicare Hillcrest Nursing Home for their kindness while caring for Mrs. Schroth. SHARP -- Helma, beloved wife of the late Bill Sharp, passed away suddenly at home December 3, 1997 at Vulcan, Alberta at the age of 75 years. SHAW -- Mrs. Marie Shaw, beloved wife of Mr. Alex Shaw of Calgary, passed away suddenly at the Foothills Hospital on November 30, 1997, at the age of 72 years. Marie was a loving wife of fifty-one years. She was avid in sports such as swimming and bowling. Marie was a long-standing member of the Eagles Club. She is the loving mother of Sherryn and Ralph Van Horne of Saanichton, B.C., Larry and Betty Shaw, Randy Shaw, David and Debbie Shaw, Brenda Clandfield, all of Calgary, and Gloria and John McGregor of Cabo San Lucas, Mexico; as well as fourteen grandchildren and six great-grandchildren. She is also survived by six brothers and two sisters. SOMERVILLE -- Mrs. Ruth Marie Somerville of Calgary, passed away at the Rockyview General Hospital on Friday, November 28, 1997 at the age of 97 years. Mrs. Somerville was born in Chicago, Illinois on June 30, 1900 and came to Calgary in 1908 with her parents, George and Esther Bock Smith. Mrs. Somerville was educated as an accountant at the Canada Business College and worked for Birks Jewellers. She later left to manage Wiltshire Farms and was married in 1934. She was a past member of the Earl Grey Golf Club and Calgary Local Council of Women. She is survived by her long-time companion and friend, Lita Garbino; a cousin Mrs. Betty Bock; Graeme and Catherine Somerville; Malcolm and Norma Somerville; and Aileen and Donne Smith. Mrs. Somerville was predeceased by her husband George L. Somerville, November 13, 1979 and her sister Esther Lorraine Honens, December 3, 1992. TUCKER -- Mr. Percival Douglas (Doug) Tucker, beloved husband of Mrs. Ruth Tucker of Calgary, passed away at his home on December 2, 1997 at the age of 94 years. Born in Bath, England, he came to Calgary in 1914 and has resided here since. Mr. Tucker was employed with the C.P.R. for fifty years retiring in 1968. He is survived by a daughter and son-in-law, Margaret and John Talty of Calgary; two grandchildren, Brian (Heather) of Gibbons, Alberta, Donna (Curtis Lang) of Calgary; three great-grandchildren, John, Liam and Maureen Talty. He is also survived by a brother and two sisters-in-law, Len and Pat Tucker and Marion Tucker, all of Calgary. He was predeceased by three brothers, Stan, Reg and Cyril. WARREN -- Myrna Sharon. On December 2, 1997, Myrna Sharon Warren of Millet passed away at the age of 55 years. WHITFORD -- Raymond Clayton Whitford passed away at the Strathmore District Hospital on Sunday, November 30, 1997 at the age of 70 years. He is survived by his beloved wife Anna; four children, Cindy (Ken), Tim, Don (Lola) and Clayton; eight grandchildren, Shannon, Lisa, Caprice, Samantha, Amy, Melissa, Kayla and Amanda; as well as two sisters, Betty and Brenda; and one brother Bob. He was predeceased by one son Dennis in 1985. At Ray's request, no Funeral Service will be held. WILLIAMS -- John Raymond (Ray) Williams, loving husband and dearest friend of Alice, passed away Monday evening, December 1, 1997, at his home. Ray was born on December 9, 1912 in Nanton, Alberta. He leaves to mourn his loss, six sons, Ron (Bev), Randy (Marilyn), Richard (Anne), Rod (Wanda), all of Calgary; Bruce (Kimmie), Salt Spring Island, Ryan (Kari), Abbotsford; three stepchildren, Ron Thompson (Linda) of Leduc, Ross Thompson and Shelley Thompson (Ed Thomason) of Wolfville, Nova Scotia. As well, ten beautiful grandchildren who will miss his loving, gentle ways, and one great-granddaughter. He was predeceased by his father and mother and his only brother Eric, as well as one stepson Brian. Ray grew up on a ranch west of Nanton, but left the country to work in the Leduc oil field. He worked in the oil industry for thirty-five years plus, until he retired in 1982. Ray will be remembered for his great sense of humour by all who knew him. He was a wonderful father and husband and a faithful, honest worker. He will be sadly missed by all who knew and loved him. DARDIS -- Thelma Lorette (nee Benson), beloved wife of Bill (Wilf) Dardis, died of cancer at the Rosedale Hospice on Friday, December 5, 1997 at the age of 60 years. Born in Strongfield, Sask., Thelma moved to Calgary as a child with her family. She is survived by three chosen children, Patrick and his wife Dianne of Calgary, Colleen and her husband Kevin McCallum of Calgary, and Monica and her husband Doug Hill of Didsbury, AB; as well as four grandchildren, Rhys, Cameron, Courtney and Mikaela. DESJARLAIS -- Mr. Joseph William Desjarlais, beloved husband of Louise Marie Desjarlais, passed away in Vancouver, B.C. at his residence on November 26, 1997 at the age of 57 years. Besides his wife, Joseph is survived by his children, Wilma, Albert, William, Tilley and Melissa, all of Calgary, and Melanie of Rocky Mountain House. He is also survived by his sisters, Katherine LaVallee of Vancouver, B.C. and Bertha Egerdeen of Olds, Alberta, Rose (Albert) Lemire and one brother Vern Pratt, all of Calgary. Joseph will be greatly missed by his eleven grandchildren and numerous nieces and nephews. He was a member of the Queen's Own Regiment of Victoria, B.C. for thirteen years. Joseph was predeceased by his parents, Albert and Julia Desjarlais, his sisters, Rita Giroux and Stella Cockriell. DONG -- Mr. Dick Ying Dong, beloved husband of Mrs. Susan Dong of Calgary, passed away on December 5, 1997, at the age of 69 years. Dick was born in Canton, China in 1928. He immigrated to Canada in 1951, residing in Lethbridge and most recently in Calgary. Dick was an entrepreneur and business man who owned and operated numerous restaurants. He enjoyed life to its fullest. He was a loving father, with his family being his focus of attention. He followed his heart by giving unselfishly to others. Dick will be greatly missed by his family. Beside his loving wife, Dick is also survived by his children, Martha Dong and Jeff Phipps, Arlene and Wade Howells, and Eileen and Darcy Gukert, all of Calgary; as well as a granddaughter Madison Howells. He is also survived by his mother, three brothers and two sisters. Dick was predeceased by his parents, and a brother.
