GRAY
Nelson A. Gray (Sandy), of Calgary, formerly of Montreal, passed away at the Foothills Hospital on September 14, 1997 at the age of 78 years. Sandy is survived by his loving family, his wife Phyllis Ecclestone (Sue); daughters, Laura (Brian) Lyall of Invermere, B.C., Joanne of Calgary; and grandsons, Steven and Kevin Lyall. He is also survived by his brother Clarence (Vicky) of Vermont, and sister Lillian Nelson of Montreal; also many caring nieces and nephews. He is predeceased by brother Merlyn, and sisters, Rosalind Sanderson, Karen Christoffersen, and Guinevere Merkley. Sandy was a Liberator Pilot in the R.C.A.F., attached to R.A.F. for service in southeast Asia Command and then spent many years as Divisional Sales Manager for Avon Canada Inc., Montreal. A Memorial Service will be held at the Chapel of the Colonel Belcher Hospital, Thursday, September 18 at 10:30 a.m. If friends so desire, memorial tributes may be made directly to the charity of donor's choice. GROVES
Warren Albert Groves passed away on September 14, 1997 after a courageous battle with cancer, at the age of 48 years. He leaves to cherish his memory, his wife Brenda, who never left his side; his chosen children, Lori, Derek and Adam; his daughter Amber; his mother Hazel; brothers, Jeffrey Groves (Lisa Wallace), Randy (Linda) Groves and Tim Groves; his sisters, Bonnie (Len) Knowles and Marjorie (Bruce) Gregory; special in-laws, Ken and Jean White, Dianne (Keith) Gilmour, Darlene White and Bruce Penny, and Brian (Dolores) White; and numerous nieces and nephews. HALDANE
Arthur William (Bill) Haldane, beloved husband of Yvonne and father of Dan and Joy, passed away on September 12, 1997 at the age of 51 years. Bill is survived by his four sisters, six brothers and their spouses. He will also be fondly remembered by his "second son" Colin McDonald. Born November 22, 1945, Bill devoted his life to family, friends and career in his happy boisterous way. Bill attended Montana State University, Bozeman, Montana and received his degree in Civil Engineering. Thereafter he entered into an ambitious career in the oil and gas industry. Lori Christine Hanson of Calgary, found peace and happiness September 12, 1997 after a long and courageous battle. Born September 15, 1954 she leaves to mourn, her best friend and husband, Stan of twenty-five years; two wonderful sons, Blain and wife Colleen and Brent; and a precious granddaughter Marissa Nicole. Also her mother and father, Margaret and Peter Hall; two brothers, Don and wife Mondonna, and Steven Hall, all of Calgary. HOWARD
Helen "Louise" Howard (nee Akitt), loving mother of David and Nicholas of Calgary, passed away suddenly at her residence on September 15, 1997 at the age of 49 years. Louise was born May 28, 1948 in Calgary and attended Western Canada High School. Out of high school, she worked as an Optometric Assistant with her father for eleven years. Louise always enjoyed rejuvenating the numerous old homes her family lived in here in Calgary. The most important thing in her life was raising her two sons, and she supported their activities through much volunteer work. She also supported her former husband's business activities, when she was able. Because of her love and dedication to her family she will always be remembered. Besides her two sons, Louise is also survived by her parents, Helen and Don Akitt; her twin sister Donna Snell and husband Fred and their children, Diana and Alexander. She is also survived by the father of her two sons, John Howard; nieces and nephews, Quinn and Todd Davis, and Jamie, Jeff, Debbie, Lindsay, and Lisa Howard; cousin Jim Akitt of Vancouver, B.C.; and her friend David Hildebrandt. Louise was predeceased by her Aunt Hope Akitt. IRVIN
Mr. Thomas L. Irvin, beloved son of Shirley and father of Christopher of Calgary, passed away peacefully at his residence on September 15, 1997 at the age of 43 years. Tom was born on May 14, 1954 in Wetaskiwin, Alberta. He was an avid sportsman who loved fishing, hunting and horseback riding. Tom was a devoted father who was actively involved with Chris' activities as a soccer coach and a cub leader. He was a small business owner who will be sadly missed. He is survived by a brother and sister-in-law, Randy and Paula Irvin of Sherwood Park; a niece Donica; nephew Sean; and Christopher's mother Reta. He is also survived by numerous other relatives and friends. He was predeceased by his father Louis Thomas Irvin, September 1, 1993. JAMES
Howard Wesley James passed away September 15, 1997 at the age of 81. Predeceased by his loving wife Gert in June of 1996, Howard is survived by his son Allen (Jane) of Calgary; daughter Gwen Harris (Barry) of Victoria; brother Lloyd (Joan) of Burnaby; sister Mabel Mash of Richmond; grandchildren, Todd and Ross Harris, and Christie and Curtis James; and numerous nieces and nephews. Born in Biggar, Sask., Howard resided in Regina after his marriage to Gert (Stone) in 1940, moving to Calgary in 1956 where he was well- known in the printing trade in Western Canada, retiring in 1978 to Malahat and Victoria. A Memorial Service will be held in Victoria, Friday, September 19, 1997 at 12:00 noon at FIRST MEMORIAL CHAPEL, 1155 Fort Street.
