READ -- Mrs. Jean Read (nee Barlow), passed away peacefully at Foothills Hospital on November 18, 1997 at the age of 83 years. She will be lovingly remembered by her son Harvey of Mara, BC; daughter Edith and Laurie Boos of Calgary; daughter Pat and Ken Tiller of Victoria, BC; son Archie and Deborah of Calgary; thirteen grandchildren, and five great-grandchildren; also by her brother Jack Barlow of Cremona, AB; and sister Marjorie Wood of Abbotsford, BC; as well as numerous nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by her husband Leslie, and daughter-in-law Sandy. At Jean's request, there will be no Funeral Service. SAWYER -- Lester Lynn, beloved husband of Mrs. Angela Sawyer of Calgary, passed away suddenly on November 13, 1997 at the age of 51 years. Besides his loving wife Angie, Les is also survived by his children, Rebecca Sawyer and Ryan Sawyer, both of Calgary, Shawn Burrell of Winnipeg, and Les and Angie's little pal Sparky. He is also survived by his mother Ethel Sawyer, and brother Lorne (Grizz) Sawyer. Les was predeceased by his father Lester N. Sawyer. Les was a member of I.B.E.W. Local 424 of Edmonton for thirty-one years. He will be sadly missed by all who knew him in Canada and the United States. Those wishing to pay their respects may do so at MOUNTAIN VIEW FUNERAL HOME on Friday, November 21, 1997 from 12:00 to 1:00 p.m. Funeral Services will be held in the Chapel of Mountain View Funeral Home on Friday, November 21, 1997 at 1:00 p.m. Interment to follow at Mountain View Memorial Gardens. SKENE -- Hellena Jeanine (nee McDougall) of Red Deer, beloved wife and best friend of Terry, passed away peacefully in her sleep, on November 18, 1997 at the age of 47 years after a courageous battle with cancer. Jeanine will be lovingly remembered by her children, Sarah, Erin and Jonathan; her parents, Marion of Calgary, and Bruce McDougall of Vancouver; her sisters, Marnie (Larry Wright) of New Mexico, and Wendeline (Andy Maton) of Calgary; her brother Dr. Roderick (Colleen) of Bragg Creek; Dr. Joe Neidhardt of New Mexico; her mother-in-law Lil Skene of Calgary; and her brothers-in-law, Ron (Elaine) of Calgary, and Larry (Kim) of Perth, Australia. Jeanine had ten nieces and nephews as well as a large extended family, and many, many friends. She was a wonderful and dedicated mother, sister, daughter and friend, and she will be sadly missed by everyone who knew her. A Memorial Service will be held Friday, November 21 at 2:00 p.m. at Knox Presbyterian Church, 4718 Ross Street, Red Deer (403-346-4560). Reverend Andrew S. Burnand will officiate. SMITH -- Fredrick Henry "Harry", born December 27, 1914 in Vulcan, Alberta, passed away November 19 1997 at Cedars Villa Nursing Home. Harry is survived by his beloved daughter Margaret Ann Smith; his beloved son Ronald Edward Smith and daughter-in-law Janice of Innisfail, Alberta; his grandchildren, Corrina Dewbury, Tracy Smith of Calgary, Jarret Smith of Innisfail and Tonya Sabourin of Edmonton; and one great-grandchild Rachel Richardson of Calgary. Harry was predeceased by his loving wife Margaret Elizabeth in September 1990, by his parents, Fredrick Durling and Jessie Smith, and sister Evelyn. Harry's loves were his family, cars, hunting, fishing and his home. His beautiful smile, patience, tender touch will be missed by those who loved him. A Visitation will be held at FOSTER'S GARDEN CHAPEL FUNERAL HOME, 3220 - 4 Street N.W., on Thursday, November 20, 1997 between 6:00 and 8:00 p.m. A Graveside Service will be held at Queen's Park Cemetery (across from Foster's Garden Chapel) on Friday, November 21, 1997 at 12:30 p.m. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Heart & Stroke Foundation or the Canadian Diabetes Association.
