BUCKLEY -- William Lawrence (Bill). It is with deep sadness that the family of Bill Buckley announce his passing on October 12, 1997. Born in Calgary on September 30, 1914, Bill received his primary and secondary education attending Crescent Heights High School. His path to pharmacy as a lifetime career began by his apprenticeship at Jeffrey Drug in Riverside. Following that, he attended the University of Alberta where he graduated as a full-fledged pharmacist in 1939. He worked for other pharmacists until 1948 when he opened the first Buckley Drug in Canmore, Alberta. After a successful but very hard-working period of five years Bill sold out and went back to working for others until 1957 when he opened the second of his two drug stores - this time in Bowness. Bill sold that store in 1968 and then worked for Alberta National Drug and several pharmacies about town in Calgary. In 1978, Bill and his wife Barbara retired to Sooke, B.C. where they have enormously enjoyed their wonderful home, its fabulous view, Bill's prodigious garden and their loyal friends. Bill leaves to mourn, his loving wife and best friend Barbara of Sooke, daughter Donna, granddaughter Erin, and son-in-law Gary Lynas, all of Calgary, along with his sister-in-law Becky Groves, of Victoria. At Bill's request there will be no formal Service. A private Memorial Service will be held at a later date. In memory of Bill, donations may be made to the Sooke Hospice, 6705A Sooke Road, Sooke, B.C. V0S 1N0.
