MURPHY - Mabel Margaret Murphy (nee Evans) of Calgary, passed away peacefully at the Rockyview Hospital on Sunday, May 7, 2000, after a short illness at the age of 90 years, a week prior to celebrating her 91st birthday. Mabel was born in Agra, India, on May 13, 1909. She was a loving and devoted mother, grandmother and great-grandmother. Mabel will be sadly missed by her son John Bede of Calgary; four grandchildren, Victor Bede and Hazel (Ronan) Quigley, all of London, England, Dr. Jacqueline Bede (Jeff Griese) of Toronto and Robert Bede of Calgary; three great-grandchildren, Grace and Adrian Quigley and Spencer Griese; a brother Alex (Jean) Evans; as well as nieces and nephews in England. She was predeceased by her youngest son Arnold (Tony) Bede. Funeral Mass will be celebrated at St. Anthony's Catholic Church (5340 - 4 Street S.W.), on Friday, May 12, 2000 at 1:00 p.m. with the Rev. J.P. Dowling, Celebrant. Graveside Service to follow at Queen's Park Cemetery. NICHOLS - Anne Nichols of High River, Alberta, passed away suddenly on Sunday, May 7, 2000. She will be sadly missed as a mother, grannie, sister, auntie, cousin and friend. She was born Dorothy Anne Moulson, October 18, 1943 in High River. She lived in Longview, Maycroft and Calgary with her sister and two brothers. She was married to Ken Nichols in 1961 and they raised four children in Calgary and Parkland. Anne loved children and was considered "mother" by many. Anne and Ken worked and lived all over the world finally settling near their grandchildren in High River. Anne was a passionate gardener and seamstress, full of life and kindness. She was suddenly taken with her husband Ken, her mother Mary, and her beloved grandchildren, Tyler and Silka. She is survived by her children, Ken and Geralyn of High River, Rob and Erika of Reno, Nevada, Heather and Wayne of Nanton, Mary-Sue and Brent of Calgary; grandchildren, Alicia, Cody, Laranda and Jordon; siblings, Bill, Tom and Monica, and Betty and David; many beloved nieces, nephews, cousins, aunts, uncles and friends. NICHOLS - Ken Nichols of High River, Alberta, passed away suddenly on Sunday, May 7, 2000. He will be sadly missed as a father, granddad, brother, uncle, cousin and frined. Ken was born K. Ernest Nichols October 27, 1941 in Ponoka. He grew up in Ponoka and Didsbury with his two brothers and three sisters. He was married to Anne Nichols in 1961 and earned many degrees in Education, Psychology, Chemistry and Safety. He was a teacher in Nanton and Claresholm, a school board administrator in Calgary and worked as a teacher and Safety advisor in Oil and Gas. Ken and Anne lived in many parts of the world, finally settling near their grandchildren in High River. Ken was a passionate traveler, recycler and gardener, a generous man who helped anyone in need. He was suddenly taken with his wife Anne, his mother-in-law Mary, and his beloved grandchildrne, Tyler and Silka. He is survived by his parents, Ruth and Leo of Kelowna, BC; children, Ken and Geralyn of High River, Rob and Erika of Reno, Nevada, Heather and Wayne of Nanton, Mary-Sue and Brent of Calgary; grandchildren, Alicia, Cody, Laranda and Jordon; siblings, Les and Gayle, Mary Lou, Leona and Jack, Marti and Peter, David and Christine; many beloved nieces, nephews, cousins, aunts, uncles and friends. NICHOLS - Tyler (twelve years old) and Silka (ten years old), children of Ken and Geralyn Nichols of High River, Alberta, passed away suddenly on Sunday, May 7, 2000. They will be sadly missed by their parents, grandparents, great-grandparents, aunts and uncles, cousins and friends. Tyler was born on January 24, 1988 in High River. He was an exceptionally bright and kind child who loved the outdoors. He spent every spare moment in his fort, with his animals, and playing outside games with his sister and friends. Silka was born on May 6, 1990, in High River. She was an outgoing, bubbly child who befriended everyone she met. Silka's heart was very soft and generous and she had time for everyone. Silka was a gifted pinaist and loved creating gifts with and for her friends. Silka and Tyler traveled extensively with their parents and had just returned from a two month safari in Africa. These two beautiful children will live on in the hearts of everyone they knew. OLENYK - Evangeline Grace Olenyk (nee Mundy) of Calgary, went to be with our Lord on Sunday, May 7, 2000 at the George Boyack Nursing Home at the age of 85 years. Eva is survived by her loving husband Harry of forty-nine years. She was predeceased by her first husband Charles E. Dutton on September 10, 1944 and her grandson James Chad Lemon on August 1, 1991. Eva will be lovingly remembered and missed by her son Sid Dutton; her daughter Wendy Lemon (James); her son Douglas (Charlene); and seven grandchildren, Timothy (Tamara), Misty, Brandon, Leslee, Jeffrey, Ashlee, and Kristopher. She will also be sadly missed by five great-grandchildren. Eva grew up as an active member of the Salvation Army, she worked hard all of her life and loved children. She will be sadly missed by all who knew and loved her. OLSON - Mrs. Irna Karen Olson, beloved wife of Mr. Garry Olson of Calgary, passed away at the Foothills Hospital on Tuesday, May 9, 2000, at the age of 62 years. Karen was born on July 9, 1937 in Calgary. She jointly owned and operated the Valley G.M. in Invermere, B.C., for many years. During her years in Invermere, she was well-thought of by those who knew her. Karen moved to Calgary in the early 1980's, later marrying Garry in 1997; together they enjoyed vacationing. She will be sorely missed by all. Besides her loving husband, Karen is survived by three sons and two daughters, Mickey of Invermere, B.C., Trent of Vancouver, Terry of Calgary, Shari and Rudy Ruault of Invermere, B.C., Laurie and Mike Lix of Calgary; six grandchildren, Vaughn, Brandi, Brennan, Taylor, Lisa and Christopher. She is also survived by her mother Irna and Reg Merslack of Calgary, brother and sister-in-law, Hugh and Sherry McKinnon of Okotoks. Karen was predeceased by her father Hugh McKinnon and brother Dereck McKinnon. PELLY - Shane Pelly passed away on May 3, 2000 at the age of 30 years. Shane was born on August 23, 1969 in Maple Ridge, B.C. His greatest passion was his two Harley Davidson motorcycles. Throughout his life, Shane was always a giving, caring and very generous person. His greatest accomplishment in life was his son Dylan and his stepdaughter Alana. Shane was a "good" son to his mother and she was always proud of him. Shane will be lovingly remembered by all who knew him. Shane is survived by his mother Zena and her husband Larry McKinley; his adoptive father Gordon Pelly and birth father Ken Walper; a sister Michelle Pelly; and a brother Geoff Pelly. He is also survived by his special Aunt Jacqui and Uncle Bert Wolffe; a niece Megan; and nephews, Justin, Jordan, Chris and Isaiah; as well as numerous other relatives and friends. PONTIFEX - Alfred Trevor passed away at the Drumheller Hospital on May 8, 2000. He was born at Trenville, Alberta, on July 13, 1910, and moved to the Morrin area with his family where he farmed until 1975. Alf moved to Calgary where he resided until his move back to Drumheller last year. He will be sadly missed by his beloved wife Beatrice (Betty); two sisters, Ellen Steward of Drumheller, Jessie Brown of Parksville and her family, Mary, Jack, Bruce; sister-in-law Gladys Pontifex of Drumheller; two special nephews, Donald Pontifex of Morrin, Gordon Pontifex of Drumheller. Alf was predeceased by his brother Walter in 1994. A Service of Committal will be held Friday, May 12, 2000, at 11:00 a.m. from the Queen's Park Cemetery, 32 Avenue and 4 Street N.W., Calgary.
